The purpose of this study was to determine how flow and sediment regimes, and meander characteristics affect the morphological adjustment of bends in the Lower Jingjiang Reach(LJR) before and after the Three Gorges Project(TGP). Based on detailed field measurements and hydrological and topographic datasets from 1991 to 2016, banks and point bars morphodynamics of 12continuous bends in the LJR were comprehensively analyzed. Point bars in the LJR mainly experienced a net deposition before the TGP operation, but substantially deteriorated with a net erosion rate of 4.6 million m^(3) yr^(-1) in the post-TGP periods(2003–2016), and erosion on heads and upstream margins of point bars was a general adjustment pattern in the 12 bends. The most significant morphological changes of point bars and banks occurred in 2006–2011,indicating a delayed response of the channel evolution of the LJR to damming. Detailed observations suggested that the medium discharges(16,000–18,000 m^(3) s^(-1)) were the most contributive discharges in shaping the morphology of point bars and banks in the LJR after damming. In addition, we revealed the importance of sediment supply on meander deformation of the LJR, driven by sediment exchange over point bars, and more upstream planform deformation tended to occur in bends with high sinuosity(>2.0) in the LJR after damming. The relationship between meander deformation and sinuosity was manifested through the geometric adjustment range of point bars. The morphological adjustments of point bars in the highly curved or compound bends of the LJR were more conducive to cause flow deflections, leading to form concave-bank bars after the TGP operation.展开更多

Whether the clinical curative effects of acupuncture in the treatment of lumbar and leg pain are linked to an inhibition of local IL-1 secretion is unknown. OBJECTIVE: To assess the influence of acupuncture on IL-1, this study was designed to verify the effects of acupuncture at the "Huatuojiaji (Extra)" point on the nerve root in a rat model of lumbar nerve root compression, compared with administration of meloxicam, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Randomized, controlled, molecular biology experiment, performed at the Experimental Center, Sixth People’s Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University between September 2005 and April 2006. MATERIALS: Forty healthy adult Sprague Dawley rats of either gender were included in this study. The rats were randomly and evenly divided into the following four groups: normal control, model, acupuncture and meloxicam groups. Lumbar nerve root compression was induced in rats in the model, acupuncture, and meloxicam groups by inserting a specially made silicon rubber slice at the juncture of the L5 nerve root and the dural sac. The acupuncture needle (pattern number N3030, 30#, 1.5 inch) was purchased from Suzhou Medical Appliance Factory, China. IL-1 enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit was purchased from Santa Cruz Biotechnology, Inc., USA. METHODS: The acupuncture group was acupunctured at the "Huatuojiaji" point, which is lateral to the compressed L5-6 nerve root, with an acupuncture depth of 0.5 cm. There were two treatment courses, each of involved seven 20-minute acupuncture sessions, one session a day. The meloxicam group was administered intragastrically 3.75 mg/kg meloxicam (5 mg meloxicam /10 mL physiological saline). Rats in the normal control group and model group received an intragastric administration of 10 mL/kg physiological saline. All administrations were performed once a day. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: At day 14 post-surgery, the IL-1 level in the compressed nerve root was determined by a streptavidin-peroxidase (S-P) immunohistochemical method, and IL-1β mRNA expression in the compressed nerve root was simultaneously detected by real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: The expression levels of IL-1 and IL-1β mRNA in the L5 nerve root were significantly higher in the model group than in the control group (P 〈 0.01). However, the expression levels of IL-1 and IL-1β mRNA were significantly lower in the acupuncture and meloxicam groups than in the model group (P 〈 0.05–0.01). Expression levels of IL-1 and IL-1β mRNA were significantly higher in the acupuncture group than in the meloxicam group (P 〈 0.01). CONCLUSION: Acupuncture at the "Huatuojiaji" point decreases the IL-1 level by inhibiting IL-1β mRNA expression to a greater extent than meloxicam administration.展开更多

In this paper, a hydrodynamic-based microfluidic device for single cell trapping is designed using a combination of stagnation point flow and physical barrier. The microfluidic device overcomes the weakness of the traditional ones, which have been only based upon either stagnation point flows or physical barriers, and can conveniently load dynamic biochemical signals to the trapped cell. In addition, it can connect with a programmable syringe pump and a microscope to constitute an integrated experimental system. It is experimentally verified that the microfluidic system can trap single cells in vitro even under flow disturbance and conveniently load biochemical signals to the trapped cell. The designed micro-device would provide a simple yet effective experimental platform for further study of the interactions between single cells and their microenvironments.展开更多

文摘Background:The medicinal material known as Os Draconis(Longgu)originates from fossilized remains of ancient mammals and is widely used in treating emotional and mental conditions. However, fossil resources are nonrenewable, and clinical demand is increasingly difficult to meet, leading to a proliferation of counterfeit products.During prolonged geological burial, static pressure from the surrounding strata severely compromises the microstructural integrity of osteons in Os Draconis, but Os Draconis still largely retains the structural features of mammalian bone. Methods:Using verified authentic Os Draconis samples over 10,000 years old as a baseline, this study summarizes the ultrastructural characteristics of genuine Os Draconis.Employing electron probe microanalysis and optical polarized light microscopy,we examined 28 batches of authentic Os Draconis and 31 batches of counterfeits to identify their ultrastructural differences.Key points for ultrastructural identification of Os Draconis were compiled, and a new identification approach was proposed based on these differences. Results:Authentic Os Draconis exhibited distinct ultrastructural markers:irregularly shaped osteons with traversing fissures,deformed/displaced Haversian canals, and secondary mineral infill(predominantly calcium carbonate).Counterfeits showed regular osteon arrangements, absent traversal fissures, and homogeneous hydroxyapatite composition.Lab-simulated samples lacked structural degradation features.EPMA confirmed calcium carbonate infill in fossilized Haversian canals, while elemental profiles differentiated lacunae types(void vs.mineral-packed).Conclusion:The study established ultrastructural criteria for authentic Os Draconis identification:osteon deformation, geological fissures penetrating bone units, and heterogenous mineral deposition. These features, unattainable in counterfeits or modern processed bones, provide a cost-effective,accurate identification method. This approach bridges gaps in TCM material standardization and supports quality control for clinical applications.
文摘Precipitation samples collected at Point Barrow, Alaska in the August and September of 1994 was analyzed for pH, conductivity and all major ions. A mean pH value of 5.53 was gained, and the samples' conductivity showed no linear correlation with its acidity, which did not agree to the similar work results on the Qinghai Tibet Plateau. Cl - and Na + were found to originate mainly with seasalt. The concentrations of SO 2- 4 varied from event to event. But the exSO 2- 4 concentrations remained small, which indicated less anthropogenic effect on the environment at the site.

文摘OBJECTIVE:To observe the therapeutic effect of lumbar tender point deep tissue massage plus lumbar traction on chronic non-specific low back pain using change in pressure pain threshold, muscle hardness and pain intensity as indices.METHODS:We randomly divided 64 patients into a treatment group(32 cases) and a control group(32 cases). Two drop-outs occurred in each group.Patients in the treatment group received tender point deep tissue massage plus lumbar traction and patients in the control group received lumbar traction, alone. We used a tissue hardness meter/algometer and visual analog scale(VAS) to assess the pressure pain threshold, muscle hardness and pain intensity.RESULTS:Following treatment,we obtained the following results in the treatment and control groups, respectively:the pressure pain threshold difference was 1.5±0.8 and 1.1±0.7;the muscle hardness difference was 4.2±1.6 and 3.5±1.3;and the VAS score difference was 1.9±0.9 and 1.4±0.8.Compared to the control group, the treatment group had higher pressure pain threshold(t=2.09,P<0.05),and lower muscle hardness(t=2.05,P<0.05) and pain intensity(t=2.46,P<0.05).CONCLUSION:Lumbar tender point deep tissue massage combined with lumbar traction produced better improvement in pressure pain threshold, muscle hardness and pain intensity in patients with chronic non-specific low back pain than with lumbar traction alone.
文摘BACKGROUND:It has been shown that interleukin-1 (IL-1) may cause inflammatory reactions, which stimulate the nerve root of patients with lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion and leads to pain. CONCLUSION: Acupuncture at the "Huatuojiaji" point decreases the IL-1 level by inhibiting IL-1β mRNA expression to a greater extent than meloxicam administration.

文摘Grain kernel discoloration(KD)in cereal crops leads to down-grading grain quality and substantial economic losses worldwide.Breeding KD tolerant varieties requires a clear understanding of the genetic basis underlying this trait. Here,we generated a high-density single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)map for a diverse barley germplasm and collected trait data from two independent field trials for five KD related traits:grain brightness(TL),redness(Ta),yellowness(Tb),black point impact(Tbpi),and total black point in percentage(Tbpt).Although grain brightness and black point is genetically correlated, the grain brightness traits(TL,Ta,and Tb)have significantly higher heritability than that of the black point traits(Tbpt and Tbpi),suggesting black point traits may be more susceptible to environmental influence.Using genome-wide association studies(GWAS),we identified a total of 37 quantitative trait loci(QTL),including two major QTL hotspots on chromosomes 4H and 7H,respectively.The two QTL hotspots are associated with all five KD traits.Further genetic linkage and gene transcription analyses identified candidate genes for the grain KD,including several genes in the flavonoid pathway and plant peroxidase. Our study provides valuable insights into the genetic basis for the grain KD in barley and would greatly facilitate future breeding programs for improving grain KD resistance.

文摘Single cell trapping in vitro by microfluidic device is an emerging approach for the study of the relationship between single cells and their dynamic biochemical microenvironments. The designed micro-device would provide a simple yet effective experimental platform for further study of the interactions between single cells and their microenvironments.
文摘A new algorithm called homotopy iteration method based on the homotopy function is studied and improved. By the improved homotopy iteration method, Polynomial systems with high Order and deficient can be solved fast and efficiently comparing to the original homotopy iteration method. Numerical examples for the ninepoint path synthesis of four-bar linkages show the advantages and efficiency of the improved homotopy iteration method.
文摘Following votes by the Barremian Working Group, the International Subcommission on Cretaceous Stratigraphy and the International Commission on Stratigraphy, the Executive Committee of the International Union of Geological Sciences unanimously approved in March 2023 the Global Stratotype Section and Point(GSSP)for the Barremian Stage(Lower Cretaceous). The base of the Barremian Stage is defined at the base of bed 171 of the Río Argos section, near Caravaca(SE Spain)and correlated by the first appearance of the ammonite species Taveraidiscus hugii. This event falls within the NC5C calcareous nannofossil Subzone, the Lilliputianella semielongata planktonic foraminiferal Zone, and the Dorothia ouachensis benthic foraminiferal Zone.It roughly coincides with the beginning of a slightly negative trend interval in theδ^(13)C curve.Indirect calibration to the magnetostratigraphic scale suggests that the boundary falls in the lowermost part of polarity chron M3r.According to the astrochronological analysis,a time interval of 0.74 myr separates the beginning of the late Hauterivian Faraoni Episode from the base of the Barremian, which is dated at 125.77 MA.

文摘In order to advance the understanding of the impact dynamics of granular flow in complex geological settings, this paper studied the impact dynamics of granular flow on rigid barriers with a number of Material Point Method(MPM)numerical tests. The impact behavior of granular flow on a rigid barrier was characterized by the initial dynamic impact stage, dynamic surge impact stage, compression impact stage and static stage of granular flow, where the impact force of granular flow was comprised of the dynamic and static forces of granular flow. The impact behavior of granular flow on a rigid barrier was characterized by the states of the fast or slow impact behavior of granular flow. The angle of slope and aspect ratio of granular soil greatly affected the impact behavior of granular flow on a column rigid barrier, where a power model was proposed to quantify the residual(Fnr)-over-maximum(Fnmax)normal impact force ratio of granular flow Fnr⁄Fnmax incorporating the effects of the angle of slope and aspect ratio of granular soil. With the increase of the column rigid barrier up to the semi-infinite column rigid barrier, the impact dynamics of granular flow gradually increased up to a maximum by progressively transforming the overflow into the dynamic surge impact of the incoming flow on the rigid barrier to capture more granular soil of granular flow against the rigid barrier.Presence of water in granular flow,i.e.,a mixture of solid and liquid in granular flow, yielded a dynamic coupling contribution of the solid and liquid, being accompanied by the whole dynamic process of granular flow,on the impact behavior of granular flow on a rigid barrier, where the liquid-phase material of granular flow,i.e.,the water, was predominant to contribute on the normal impact force of granular flow in comparison with the solid-phase material of granular flow.In addition, other factors,e.g.,the shape of rigid barrier(i.e.,the column barrier, arch barrier and circle barrier),and the gravity(i.e.,in the gravitational environment of the Moon,Earth and Mars),greatly affected the impact behavior of granular flow on a rigid barrier as well.
文摘32 cases of the third lumbar transverse process syndrome were treated mainly byelectroacupuncture at Huatuojiaji points of the first and second lumbar vertebrae, andanother 30 cases of the syndrome by conventional acupuncture as the controls. The resultsshowed that treatment by electroacupuncture at Huatuojiaji points was superior inanalgesic effect and clinical total effective rate to that by conventional acupuncture. It isconsidered that the mechanism of treatment by electroacupuncture at Huatuojiaji pointsis related to the trunk of posterior ramus of the spinal nerve where the points are located.
