AIM:To investigate the diagnostic accuracy of the mean platelet volume and platelet distribution width in acute appendicitis.METHODS:This retrospective,case-controlled study compared 295 patients with acute appendicit...AIM:To investigate the diagnostic accuracy of the mean platelet volume and platelet distribution width in acute appendicitis.METHODS:This retrospective,case-controlled study compared 295 patients with acute appendicitis(Group?Ⅰ),100 patients with other intra-abdominal infections(GroupⅡ),and 100 healthy individuals(GroupⅢ)between January 2012 and January 2013.The age,gender,and white blood cell count,neutrophil percentage,mean platelet volume,and platelet distribution width values from blood samples were compared among the groups.Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS for Windows 21.0 software.In addition,the sensitivity,specificity,positive and negative predictive values and likelihood ratios,and diagnostic accuracy were calculated.RESULTS:The mean ages of patients were 29.9±12.0years for Group?Ⅰ,31.5±14.0 years for GroupⅡ,and30.4±13.0 years for GroupⅢ.Demographic features such as age and gender were not significantly different among the groups.White blood cell count,neutrophil percentage and platelet distribution width were significantly higher in Group?Ⅰ?compared to groupsⅡandⅢ(P<0.05).Diagnostically,the sensitivity,specificity and diagnostic accuracy were 73.1%,94.0%,and 78%for white blood cell count,70.0%,96.0%,and 76.0%for neutrophil percentage,29.5%,49.0%,and 34.0%for mean platelet volume,and 97.1%,93.0%,and 96.0%for platelet distribution width,respectively.The highest diagnostic accuracy detected was for platelet distribution width between Group?Ⅰ?and GroupⅢ(P<0.01).CONCLUSION:Platelet distribution width analysis can be used for diagnosis of acute appendicitis without requiring additional tests,thus reducing the cost and loss of time.展开更多

The decline in oocyte quality and developmental potential with female reproductive aging is well recognized,yet the underlying mechanisms remain insufficiently investigated.In this study,an integrative analysis of tra...The decline in oocyte quality and developmental potential with female reproductive aging is well recognized,yet the underlying mechanisms remain insufficiently investigated.In this study,an integrative analysis of transcriptomes and morphologies of individual oocytes from young and aged mice identifies morphologically defective aged oocytes with distinct transcriptomic features.Further analysis demonstrates that both apoptotic and ferroptotic pathways are activated in the defective aged oocytes,and simultaneously blocking both pathways reverses the defective morphology to the largest extent.The Plat gene,which encodes tissue-type plasminogen activator(t PA),is downregulated with oocyte aging,and Plat knockdown increases oocyte susceptibility to both apoptosis and ferroptosis.Mechanistically,t PA functions as an upstream signaling molecule for Erk1/2 activation by interacting with particular phosphorylation kinases such as Alk.Consequently,Plat loss downregulates Erk1/2 pathway activity in oocytes,leading to degeneration through PCD.Supplementing exogenous t PA in vitro oocyte maturation cultures reduces the defect rate of aged oocytes,thereby improving oocyte quality and developmental potential.Collectively,Plat plays a pivotal role in protecting aged mouse oocytes from PCD,and t PA supplementation may serve as a potential clinical strategy to enhance oocyte quality in females of advanced maternal age.展开更多
Direct electroless nickel plating on n-si(100) wafers in alkaline solutions was demonstrated without any activation procedure in advance,the effect of pH and tem- perature of the solutions on size of metal particles i...Direct electroless nickel plating on n-si(100) wafers in alkaline solutions was demonstrated without any activation procedure in advance,the effect of pH and tem- perature of the solutions on size of metal particles in depos- its was examined,and also the element contents os deposits were analyzed by energy disperse spectroscopy (EDS).The results indicated that the size of metal particles increases with increasing temperature or decreasing pH.The possible mechanism of nickel deposition on n-Si(100) was discussed in terms of semiconductor electrochemistry,and the forma- tion of nickel seed crystal on Si was mainly attributed to the generation of atomic hydrogen by electron capture of water molecule from the semiconductor in alkaline solutions.展开更多
