This study explores the lived experiences of Chinese teachers in American Chinese Schools.Max van Manen’s methodology for hermeneutic phenomenological research provides a framework for the study,and the philosophical...This study explores the lived experiences of Chinese teachers in American Chinese Schools.Max van Manen’s methodology for hermeneutic phenomenological research provides a framework for the study,and the philosophical writings of Heidegger,Gadamer,and Derrida guide the textual interpretations.Pedagogical voices of Aoki,Pinar,and Greene,and cultural journeys of Hongyu Wang and Xin Li reveal possibilities for understanding the experiences of Chinese teachers,as the question is addressed:“What is the meaning of teaching Chinese in American Chinese Schools?”Ten Chinese teachers engaged in a series of open-ended conversations.The conversations illuminate the experience of Confucian teaching meeting American pedagogies around two main themes.First,in following the metaphor of Chinese knotwork,the teachers speak of their struggles and challenges between Chinese Confucian and American pedagogies,reflect on splitting and splicing the knots through changing and adjusting their method of Confucian teaching.Second,they tell of the experiences of building bridges in a third space through dialogically connecting the different cultures and pedagogies in order to seek the appropriate way of teaching and learning Chinese well in American Chinese Schools.展开更多
The high voltage Padova test facility(HVPTF)is an experiment set in Padova,Italy,operating in the framework of the Neutral Beam Test Facility project of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor(ITER).One o...The high voltage Padova test facility(HVPTF)is an experiment set in Padova,Italy,operating in the framework of the Neutral Beam Test Facility project of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor(ITER).One of the purposes of HVPTF is to study the phenomenology of discharge events occurring between electrodes at high voltage differences over long vacuum gaps,which is crucial in the development of the neutral beam injector foreseen for ITER.The facility hosts a cylindrical vacuum vessel with stable pressure control,where two electrodes of different possible geometries can be mounted.Two independent power supplies allow for total voltage differences up to 800 kVDC with adjustable gap widths up to 250 mm.Among the diagnostics,a gas electron multiplier(GEM)detector is installed for acquisition of x-ray emission on a radial line of sight of the vessel.This paper presents a study of the experimental sessions featuring stainless-steel needle-plane electrodes.The analysis is based on the GEM data,in relation to the information on current and voltage of the two power supplies.The events are characterised in terms of both temporal and spatial evolution,providing sequential emission profiles with spatial resolution of tens of millimetres on timescales of the order of hundreds of nanoseconds.展开更多
Many researches from both theoretical and experimental perspectives have been performed to search for a new Higgs Boson that is lighter than the 125 GeV Higgs boson,which was discovered at the LHC in 2012.In this stud...Many researches from both theoretical and experimental perspectives have been performed to search for a new Higgs Boson that is lighter than the 125 GeV Higgs boson,which was discovered at the LHC in 2012.In this study,we explore the possibility of constraining a lighter neutral custodial fiveplet scalar H_(5)^(0) in the GeorgiMachacek(GM) model using the latest results of the search for a lighter Higgs boson decaying into two photons from LHC data.The custodial-singlet mass eigenstate h or H is considered to be the LHC observed 125 GeV Higgs boson.A new set of constrained parameters that is favoured by low-mass H_(5)^(0) is proposed to generate events efficiently.The production of H_(5)^(0) from a scan based on the constrained parameters is compared to the latest results of the search for a lighter Higgs boson decaying into two photons by the CMS Collaboration after applying theoretical constraints from the GM model and constraints from all existing relevant experimental measurements,including the recent results of the Higgs boson searches by the LHC.Numerical analyses of the surviving GM parameter space are performed.The tendencies and correlations of the GM input parameters from phenomenological studies are summarized.In addition,the discovery potential of the other interesting decay channels of this low-mass neutral custodial fiveplet scalar are discussed.展开更多
