The current study aims to ascertain the reservoir characteristics of the Tariki Sandstone Member of the Otaraoa Formation,Taranaki Basin,New Zealand. This study was carried out by integrating the comprehensive petrophysical evaluation, sedimentological and petrographic studies,as well as well log analysis by using data from six wells. The porosity-permeability relationship is used to divide the samples of the Tariki Sandstone Member into reservoir and non-reservoir facies.A thorough petrophysical analysis shows that the maximum porosity values fluctuate between 16.6%and 22.1%,while permeability ranges from 102 mD to 574 mD,which indicates fair to good reservoir quality. Moreover, the Tariki sandstone represents six hydraulic flow units with a high reservoir quality index and flow zone indicator representing good reservoir characteristics. The pore size varies between nano and megapores with dominant macropores.Based on the sedimentological and petrographic analysis, the Tariki Sandstone Member is classified as a combination of subarkose, arkose, and lithic arkose with fine to medium and moderately to moderately well-sorted grains. The main diagenetic factor affecting the reservoir quality is cementation, which occupied all the pores with calcite. On the bright side, the secondary pores are developed due to the dissolution of calcite cement and few grains. The well log analysis demonstrates the presence of low clay volume ranging from 0.3%to 3.1%,fair to good effective porosity values between 13.6%and 15.9%,net pay thickness from 18.29 m to 91.44 m,and hydrocarbon saturation from 56%to 77.9%.The findings from this study revealed that the Tariki Sandstone Member possesses fair to good reservoir quality and hydrocarbon potential, which indicate submarine fans as appealing hydrocarbon reservoirs. This study can be used in similar depositional environments elsewhere in the world. 展开更多

This study presents a comprehensive geological modeling approach to understanding the Hartha Formation in the Balad Oilfield.Utilizing Petrel software,a 3D geological model was developed, integrating well data, seismic contour map,and log analyses to delineate the reservoir’s structural and petrophysical properties.Data preparation involved organizing well headers, tops, and logs from five key wells, followed by the creation of a structural contour map that identified major and minor faults influencing the reservoir.Structural modeling further enhanced the understanding of the Hartha Formation’s geometry, illustrating how tectonic influences and faulting impacted the spatial distribution of reservoir units.Facies modeling identified a predominance of mudstone and wackestone in the upper Hartha Formation, with improved reservoir qualities in the Har.UA and Har.UB units.Petrophysical modeling demonstrated variations in porosity and water saturation, highlighting the impact of structural features on fluid distribution. The findings underscore the complex geological interplay within the Hartha Formation, providing critical insights for future exploration and optimized hydrocarbon recovery strategies. 展开更多

The northern portion of the Egyptian Western Desert is a very promising oil-producing province. The Abu Roash and Bahariya formations in Abu Sennan Field have a diverse lithological composition, leading to variances in reservoir continuity both horizontally and vertically. The reservoir heterogeneity problem is addressed by utilizing datasets derived from five wells and 3D seismic data that covers the full region of Abu Sennan. The lithology and reservoir levels were determined using geophysical well data. The investigated formations consist of sandstone, carbonate, and shale. The“E”and“G”members of the Abu Roash Formation,in addition to the Bahariya Formation, have the highest potential for containing hydrocarbons.Abu Roash E has a range of net pay from 17–47 m,shale volume ranging from 17%to 36%,effective porosity ranging between 20%and 26%,and oil saturation ranging between 49%and 77%.The Abu Roash“G”has a net pay range of 7–34 m,a shale content ranging from 5%to 42%,an effective porosity between 10%and 24%,and a hydrocarbon saturation ranging from 46%to 60%.The Bahariya Formation has a vertical thickness of 12–62 m,with a percentage of shale ranging from 16%to 44%.The formation also exhibits an effective porosity ranging from 15%to 26%and an oil saturation ranging between 46%and 77%.Analyzed 3D seismic data were utilized to create depth-structure maps.Seismic data interpretation and petrophysical analysis enabled the creation of 3D models for the structures and reservoirs in the Abu Sennan region. The static models served as the main inputs for calculating the volumetrics and generating two additional interesting opportunities in the researched region. For the investigated reservoirs, the estimated stock tank oil in place was about 394,216,376,and 601(×106 m3)for AR/E,AR/F,AR/G,and Upper Baharyia, respectively. The projected volumes show the potential of the investigated intervals. 展开更多
