Comparison of administrative and regulatory green technologies development between China and the U.S.based on patent analysis 被引量:1

With the increasing importance of computer intelligence in the new round of the industrial revolution,administrative,regulatory,or design(ARD)green technology contributes to improving national technological competitiveness and promoting the transformation of green technology,which is becoming an important field under sustainable development goals.The U.S.and China ranked top two in terms of paper influence and patent applications in the field of ARD green technology.However,few comparative studies have been conducted in these two countries.This study presents the evolution and landscapes of ARD green technology between China and the U.S.,focusing on comparing development priorities and technical layouts in each five-year plan period.According to the“International Patent Classification(IPC)Green Inventory”launched by the World Intellectual Property Organization(WIPO),we retrieved 69,412 patents published between 2001 and 2020 from the PatSnap database.Descriptive,content,and thematic network analyses were conducted using latent dirichlet allocation(LDA)and community detection algorithms.The results show that both China and the U.S.strategically focus on ARD green technology development.The technical topics in this field can be divided into three themes:data processing systems,traffic control systems,and building designs.The emphasis on technology research and development(R&D)differs between China and the U.S.There is also evidence that the U.S.has advantages in terms of technological innovation and capabilities.However,China has an advantage in terms of data volume,and the gap between China and the U.S.is gradually narrowing.We also highlight the contributions and limitations of this study. 展开更多

Studies of world carbon fiber industry from a perspective of patent analysis

Patents are the manifestation of the industry R&D endeavor; therefore,World carbon fiber industry from the perspective of patent analysis is studied. Findings from the analysis show a continual increase of carbon fibers patents since 1969,and the growth rate began even faster after the year of 2005. Five countries( Japan,China,US,Germany and Korea) took dominant positions in global carbon fibers R&D,and the sum of patents applied in these five countries accounted for 80% of the total patents in the world. Corporations do play an active role in global carbon fibers R&D,and over 60% of patents were applied by corporations. Among them,the top 3 corporations were all from Japan,which had much more patents than the other patent assignees. Furthermore,most corporations were not active in cooperation with others,except Toyota Motor Corp. Global carbon fibers R&D focused on sheet manufacture cloth,core wire layer,heat connect provide and filter activated draw.And there is big difference between Japan and China in the R&D focus. China's corporations have exhibited rapid growth in the number of patent applications in recent years,but there is still a large gap between China and foreign countries in view of global patent layout and influence. By providing the insight into the evolution of global carbon fibers industrial and technological development through the perspective of patent analysis,this study hopes to provide an objective statistic reference for future policy directions and academic researches. 展开更多

As the foundation of an industrialized country nowadays,machine tools industry is regarded as the engine of industrial development of a country.The developed countries,such as USA,Germany and Japan,have widely deployed the technology of using the patent in order to keep their strength in various fields.This research examins the CNC machine tools industry in the world by using the patent analysis method.It first gives an overview about the world patent application in CNC machine tools industry from 1963 to 2010 and divides the development of the industry into five stages.It also lists the patent application of the world top 20 countries,where the top 5 countries are compared.The patents of the world top 10 companies of machine tools manufacturers are mapped according to the international patent classification(IPC),and the future trends of world machine tools industry are discussed.Finally conclusions and suggestions are presented. 展开更多

Objective To propose a method for identifying cooperation partners and technology opportunities based on technological similarity and technological capability analysis at the critical moment for the survival of small and medium-sized vaccine companies.This method can provide a direction for small and medium-sized enterprises that lack human and financial resources to make full use of its existing technologies.Methods Data analysis was carried out based on patent data.First,through cosine similarity and patent index evaluation,companies with high technological similarity and strong technological capabilities were selected as the target of cooperation.Then evaluation index system of technological development potential was built from three dimensions:technological competitiveness,technological creativity,and potential for industrialization.AHP-CRITIC method was used to determine the comprehensive development potential of each technology.Finally,technology opportunities based on K-means and text mining were identified.Results and Conclusion This method can help small and medium vaccine companies in China to identify technological opportunities and provide directions for product development. 展开更多

Objective To study the identification method that aims at the research and development target and makes the limited resources be optimized.With the frequent occurrence of potential drug safety hazards and the vigorous development of biomedicine,China’s pharmaceutical cold chain is facing huge opportunities and challenges.Under this background,it’s vital to promote the research and development of Chinese pharmaceutical cold chain technology.Methods First,China’s pharmaceutical cold chain patents were sorted out through the literature research method and patent analysis method,de-noises and cleans the data,uses the international patent classification(IPC)numbers as the pharmaceutical cold chain technology.Then,the IPC number co-occurrence matrix was constructed.Third,UCINET was used to visualize,draw the IPC number co-occurrence network.After that,K-cores analysis was applied to initially screen the core technology so as to build a comprehensive evaluation index system to evaluate the core technologies.Finally,Condorcet voting method was used to integrate the evaluation results to identify the core technologies.Results and Conclusion Based on this method,it can provide theoretical guidance for the development and decision-making of Chinese pharmaceutical cold chain enterprises,helping them break through technical barriers and improving the efficiency of Chinese pharmaceutical cold chain logistics. 展开更多

This study takes the patent information of China's electric agricultural machinery technology as the research object,and uses patent measurement analysis method and visual analysis tools to carry out statistical analysis and comparative research on the relevant patent information from the perspectives of annual patent applications,patent structure,technological key,main applicants,patent layout,technology lifecycle and so on.The research results show that China's electric agricultural machinery technology innovation is developing rapidly,and the patent categories are mainly utility model and invention patents,and the proportion of invention patents is lower than utility model patents.Universities are the most important innovation subjects in this field,and technology research and development focuses on IPC(international patent classification)subcategories such as A01C(seeding,fertilization),B60K(power,transmission),and A01D(harvesting.mowing).Jiangsu Province and Shandong Province rank the top 2 in the number of domestic patent applications,and the United States and Japan are the two countries with the most layout in China.At present,the growth of electric agricultural machinery technology is weak,but the new technology has strong features,there is no sign of maturity,and it does not have signs of technological aging and still has greater development potential.The results of the study can provide information reference for clarifying the status quo,characteristics and development trend of China's electric agricultural machinery technology innovation. 展开更多

The pitch bearing is a component in wind turbine units used to adjust the angle of the fan blades to adapt to the wind direction,so as to maximize the utilization of wind energy.Due to the different working mode of the pitch bearing itself compared with ordinary small bearings and the harsh working environment,the pitch bearing is prone to faults such as cracking and deformation.In severe cases,it will lead to overall damage to the pitch bearing,causing the blade to fall from a high altitude and even injuring personnel.Therefore,this paper conducts a patent analysis and technical decomposition of the deformation monitoring device for pitch bearings,analyzes and summarizes the development process of existing deformation monitoring devices for pitch bearings.Combined with the TRIZ evolution theory and based on the S-curve,it is concluded that the current deformation monitoring device for pitch bearings is in the transitional stage between the infant period and the growth period,and discusses the possible subsequent evolution directions.Through reviewing relevant literature,it is found that inner ring cracks first appear near the upper and lower surfaces of the bolt holes in the inner ring of the pitch bearing.To this end,a new type of deformation monitoring device for pitch bearings is designed.The fiber optic displacement sensor is used for qualitative monitoring of initial cracks near the surface of the bolt holes in the inner ring of the pitch bearing.After cracks are detected,the eddy current sensor is used for quantitative monitoring of whether there are extended cracks between the cracked bolt holes and adjacent bolt holes.Finally,the work done in this paper is summarized and prospected. 展开更多

In order to reveal the hotspots and trends of biological water treatment from the perspectives of scientific and technological innovation, both of the bibliometric review and patents analysis were performed in this study. The Web of Science Core Collection database and Derwent Innovation Index database recorded 30023 SCI papers and 50326 patents, respectively were analyzed via information visualization technology. The results showed that China ranked the first in both papers and patents, while the United States and Japan had advantages in papers and patents, respectively. It was concluded through literature metrology analysis that microbial population characteristics, biodegradation mechanism,toxicity analysis, nitrogen and phosphorus removal and biological treatment of micropolluted wastewater were the research hotspots of SCI papers. Activated sludge process and anaerobic-aerobic combined process were the two mainstream technologies on the basis of patent technology classification analysis. Technology evolution path of biological water treatment was also elucidated in three stages based on the citation network analysis. Furthermore, the future directions including research on the law of interaction and regulation of biological phases and pollutants and the technology innovations towards the targeted biotransformation or selective biodegradation of pollutants and resource reuse of wastewater were prospected. 展开更多

In order to forecast promising technologies in the field of next generation mobile communication, various patent indicators were analyzed such as citation per patent, patent family information, patent share, increase rate, and patent activity. These indicators were quantified into several indexes and then integrated into an evaluation score to provide promising technologies. As a result of the suggested patent analysis, four technologies out of twenty two in details classification were selected, which showed outstanding technology competitiveness, high patent share and increasing rates as well as high recent-patent-ratios and triad-patent-family-ratios. Each of the selected technologies scored more than 10 points in total, and the following four technologies were suggested as promising ones in the field of next generation mobile communication: 1) 3GPP based mobile communication, 2) beyond 4G mobile communication, 3) IEEE 802.16 based mobile communication, which are in medium classification of broadband mobile communication system, and 4) testing/certification system of mobile communication, which is in medium classification of mobile communication testing/certification system. 展开更多

At present, microelectro mechanical systems (MEMS) sensors have gradually replaced traditional mechanical sensors and are applied to several fields. Many developed countries pay high attention to technological innovation of MEMS sensors, and have applied a large number of patents since 2000. In this study, the patents of MEMS sensor from 2000 to 2015 are researched, the patents data is collected from Derwent Innovation Index (DII), and the method of co-classification analysis is used to investigate the technology cluster evolution of MEMS sensors. Results show that the technology diffusion occurrs in each technical field and the technology relevance between different technical fields is changed over time. On the whole, the evolution process of MEMS sensor is the manufacture and material of sensor chip, the electronic components and measuring function, the computing and control technology, and applications to biochemical field and communication. 展开更多

Second, several dimension-reduction techniques were used to generate technology topics. Then, the hierarchical relationships between technology topics were calculated based on patent clustering. Finally, technology evolution maps were drawn by adding a timeline.Findings: This approach can reveal technology evolution processes from multiple perspectives than other approaches.Research limitations: The semantic annotation of an SAO type is not very accurate and the semantic types of technology topics need to be enriched.Practical implications: The approach can be applied to draw technology evolution maps using different types of technology topics such as problem or solution.Originality/value: This approach offers an analytical dimension and more details than existing techniques, and it helps identify fundamental and emerging technologies more accurately and comprehensively. 展开更多

This study examined Japanese patents in terms of the quantitative characteristics of application documents that resulted in the acquisition of rights in order to clarify the relationship between the features and patentability of applications. The groups of approved applications and those that had not been approved were compared for 12 variables: publication time lag; numbers of inventors, classifications, pages, figures, tables, claims, priority claims, countries for priority claims, cited patents, and cited non-patent documents; and median of citation age. Furthermore, the authors carried out the experiments in which patent applications were automatically classified into two groups by the machine learning method, random forests. As a result, statistically significant differences between the two groups were observed for the following variables (p 〈 .001): the numbers of inventors, pages, figures, claims, priority claims, and countries for priority claims were significantly larger in the group of approved applications, while the time lag until publication was smaller. In particular, the publication time lag and the numbers of inventors, pages, and figures were variables representing the features that largely contribute to discriminating approved applications in the classification using random forests, which implies that these have relatively strong relationships with patentability. 展开更多

Purpose:This research proposes a patent portfolio analysis model based on the legal status information to chart out a competitive landscape in a particular field,enabling organizations to position themselves within the overall technology landscape.Design/methodology/approach:Three indicators were selected for the proposed model:Patent grant rate,valid patents rate and patent maintenance period.The model uses legal status information to perform a qualitative evaluation of relative values of the individual patents,countries or regions’ technological capabilities and competitiveness of patent applicants.The results are visualized by a four-quadrant bubble chart To test the effectiveness of the model,it is used to present a competitive landscape in the lithium ion battery field.Findings:The model can be used to evaluate the values of the individual patents,highlight countries or regions’ positions in the field,and rank the competitiveness of patent applicants in the field.Research limitations:The model currently takes into consideration only three legal status indicators.It is actually feasible to introduce more indicators such as the reason for invalid patents and the distribution of patent maintenance time and associate them with those in the proposed model.Practical implications:Analysis of legal status information in combination of patent application information can help an organization to spot gaps in its patent claim coverage,as well as evaluate patent quality and maintenance situation of its granted patents.The study results can be used to support technology assessment,technology innovation and intellectual property management.Originality/value:Prior studies attempted to assess patent quality or competitiveness by using either single patent legal status indicator or comparative analysis of the impacts of each indicator.However,they are insufficient in presenting the combined effects of the evaluation indicators.Using our model,it appears possible to get a more complete and objective picture of the current competitive situation. 展开更多

This study is a review of hydrogen station patents using the Derwent Innovation system and also a secondary screening.This was undertaken by the researchers to better understand and identify hydrogen station trends.The review focuses on analyzing the developing trends of patent technologies associated with a hydrogen station.The results of the review indicated that the countries with the major distribution of patents were Japan,China,the USA and Europe.Japan is leading the developmental trajectory of hydrogen stations.The results of the analysis found the leading developers of these patented technologies are Kobe Steel,Nippon Oil,Toyota and Honda.Other active patent developers analyzed include Linde,Hyundai and Texaco.The review concludes with a suggestion that using a patent analysis methodology is a good starting point to identify,evaluate and measure the trend in hydrogen station commercial development. 展开更多

In all technical fields, the biomedical industry has the highest dependence on intellectual property rights, and the protection of pharmaceutical intellectual property rights by domestic and foreign biomedical enterprises also runs through the whole process of drug research and development. Extending the patent protection period of drugs as well as forming and strengthening patent fortresses requires a patent network that surrounds drugs to maximize the value of intellectual property protection, which is also the focus of every pharmaceutical company with patent rights. By analyzing the patent portfolio of Clovis Oncology Company in the United States on Rucaparib and the patent portfolio of other companies or applicants on Rucaparib, we can have a clearer understanding of the strategy of extending the patent protection period of a new drug product. 展开更多
