Effect of Waste Paper Fiber on Properties of Cementbased Mortar and Relative Mechanism 被引量:1

The aim of this work was to investigate the effect of waste paper fiber on the properties of cement-based mortar and the relative mechanism. The cement-based mortars with various contents and mixing way of waste paper fibers were prepared and the slump flow, setting time and strength developments of all mortars were tested. Besides, Ca(OH)_2 content in hardened pastes at different ages and the microstructures of all mortar at 90 d were observed by scanning electron microscopy. The experimental results showed that in the process of mixing, more superplastizier was consumed to maintain the workability because of the absorption of water and superplastizer on waste paper fiber. With more waste paper fiber being added, longer setting time is available for the pastes with it because of the carbohydrate dissolving and its retarding to the cement hydration. Waste paper fiber is adverse to the early and later strength of cement-based mortar, but it increases the mortar strengths at 7 and 28 d. The strength, Ca(OH)_2 content and microstructure are related to the content and mixing way of waste paper fiber. Waste paper fiber helps produce the Ca(OH)_2 at 7 and 28 d, but this case is reverse at ages of 1 and 3 d. Overall, waste paper fiber leads to the appearance of more pores in the hardened paste. The fabrication of a pyrocarbon coated carbon paper and its application to the gas diffusion lay(GDL) of proton exchange membrane(PEM) fuel cell were described.This carbon paper was fabricated by using conventional carbon paper as the precursor,and coating it with pyrocarbon by pyrolyzing propylene via the chemical vapor deposition(CVD) method.For comparison,conventional carbon paper composites were also prepared by using PAN-based carbon fiber felt as the precursor followed by impregnation with resin,molding and heat-treatment.SEM characterization indicates that pyrocarbon is uniformly deposited on the surface of the fiber in the pyrocarbon coated carbon paper and made the fibers of carbon felt bind more tightly.In contrast,there are cracks in matrix and debonding of fibers due to carbonization shrinkage in the conventional carbon paper.Property measurements show that the former has much better conductivity and gas permeability than the latter.In addition,current density-voltage performance tests also reveal that the pyrocarbon coating can improve the properties of carbon paper used for electrode materials of fuel cell. 展开更多

Based on the fact that it is challenging for the polymer flexible circuit substrates to meet the requirements of serving in high-temperature environments,this work proposed the idea of using printable ceramic fiber paper as a high-temperature flexible circuit substrate.A ceramic fiber paper with all ceramic components had been developed via electrospinning,solving the problems of low strength and severe strength drop at high temperatures of traditional ceramic fiber paper.The tensile strength of the prepared ceramic fiber paper is 2.63 MPa,and the reliable service temperature is 1200℃.Its bulk density is about 1.5 times that of traditional ceramic fiber paper.It can be printed with patterns by commercial inkjet printers like ordinary printing paper and has excellent printability.The feasibility of ceramic fiber paper as a flexible circuit substrate was verified by constructing a simple circuit.When the fiber paper is significantly bent,the circuit still forms a complete path,which proves that it has a strong application potential for high-temperature flexible circuit substrate and is expected to promote the development of flexible electronic devices serving at extreme high-temperature environments. 展开更多

In dual-ion batteries (DIBs), energy storage is achieved by intercalation/de-intercalation of both cations and anions. Due to the mismatch between ion diameter and layer space of active materials, however, volume expansion and exfoliation always occur for electrode materials. Herein, an integrated electrode Co3O4/carbon fiber paper (CFP) is prepared as the anode of DIB. As the Co3O4 nanosheets grow on CFP substrate vertically, it promotes the immersion of electrolyte and shortens the pathway for ionic transport. Besides, the strong interaction between Co3O4 and CFP substrate reduces the possibility of sheet exfoliation. An integrated-electrode-based DIB is therefore packaged using Co3O4/CFP as anode and graphite as cathode. As a result, a high energy density of 72 Wh/kg is achieved at a power density of 150 W/kg. The design of integrated electrode provides a new route for the development of high-performance DIBs. 展开更多

We used paper mill sludge(PMS) to substitute for part of the wood fibers(WF) used to reinforce high density polyethylene(HDPE).The resulting composites were subjected to xenon-arc weathering.The composite filled with limited PMS(under 10 %) had mechanical properties and aging resistance similar to those without PMS.The composites containing more PMS faded and cracked more readily than those without PMS.Based on the carbonyl index,crystallinity,and wood index,PMS appeared to accelerate the degradation of composites during weathering.Adding PMS to WF–HDPE composites reduced the weathering resistance,and this reduction was not significant if the PMS content did not exceed 20 % of the wood fibers.Therefore,PMS could be used as a reinforcement in wood-plastic composites at levels less than20 % of the wood fiber content. 展开更多

Image analysis technique was improved for accurate fiber orientation in paper surfaces. Image analysis using Fast Fourier Transform was demonstrated to be an effective means to determine fiber orientation angle and its intensity. Binarization process of micrograph images of paper surface and precise calculation for average Fourier coefficients as an angular distribution by interpolation developed were found to improve the accuracy. This analysis method was applied to digital optical micrographs and scanning electron micrographs of paper. A laboratory handsheet showed a large deviation in the average value of fiber orientation angle, but some kinds of machine-made paper showed about 90 degrees in the orientation angle with very small deviations as expected. Korea and Japanese paper made in the traditional ways showed its own characteristic depending on its hand making processes. 展开更多

Carbon fibers(CFs) were coated with a nickel-phosphorus(Ni-P) film using an electroless plating process. The morphology, elemental composition and phases in the coating layer of the CFs were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) and X-ray diffraction(XRD), respectively. Wet paper-making method was used to prepare nickle coated carbon fiber paper(NCFP). Vacuum assisted infusion molding process(VAIMP) was employed to manufacture the NCFP reinforced epoxy composites, and carbon fiber paper(CFP) reinforced epoxy composites were also produced as a comparison. Electromagnetic interference(EMI) shielding properties of the composites were measured in the 3.22-4.9 GHz frequency range using waveguide method. Both NCFP and CFP reinforced epoxy composites of 0.5 mm thickness exhibited high EMI shielding effectiveness(SE) at 8wt% fiber content, 35 d B and 30 d B, respectively, and reflection was the dominant shielding mechanism. 展开更多

A mode-locked thulium ytterbium co-doped fiber laser (TYDFL) is proposed and demonstrated by using a commercial graphene oxide (GO) paper as saturable absorber (SA). The GO paper is sandwiched between two fiber ferrules and incorporates a ring laser cavity to generate soliton pulse train operating at 1942.0nm at a threshold multimode pump power as low as 1.8 W. The mode-locked TYDFL has a repetition rate of 22.32 MHz and the calculated pulse width of 1.1 ns. Even though the SA has a low damage threshold, the easy fabrication of GO paper should promote its potentiM application in ultrafast photonics. 展开更多

Bacteria in Indian Food Packaging Papers and Paperboards with Various Contents of Pulp Fiber

The food packaging industry generally uses papers and paperboards (PPBs) especially for disposable products. According to the Framework Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004 of the European Union, no transfer of contamination should occur from food packaging material to the food items. The aim of this study was to determine the presence, numbers, source and different kinds of bacteria present in food packaging PPBs with various contents of pulp fiber. The samples were randomly collected from popular confectioners and fast food restaurants in Saharanpur, India. The results indicated the presence of bacteria in all the samples, ranging from 1.3 × 102 to 6.1 × 103 cfu/g. Most of the samples contained bacteria in more than the permitted concentration of 2.5 × 102 cfu/g as set by Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The detected bacteria were from genera Bacillacea, Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas. According to the FDA declaration, pathogenic bacteria such as B. cereus and S. aureus have been associated with food borne diseases (FBD). Some contaminants in food packaging PPBs were found to be B. subtilis and P. aeroginosa, which produce enzymes like peroxidases and lipoxygenases that are odor generating enzymes. 展开更多

In this research, at different quantities as fillers, Boric Acid, Calcite (CaCO<sub>3</sub>), SPT (Sodium Perborate Tetrahydrate) and as coupling matters, 3%, MAPE (Maleic Anhydride Grafted Polyethylene), Titanate and Silanyl (Vinyltriethoxysilane) were added waste paper. Composite boards were pressed and cut in 1 × 30 × 30 cm. In order to identify some properties of the produced boards, experimental works were applied according to the standards. In conclusion, bending stress reduced with filler materials and chemicals was reduced even more than the bending stress except for some experimental groups. In addition, it was observed that the coupling chemicals increased the bending strength and modulus of elasticity compared to the fillers. 展开更多

As a material with good biocompatibility,hydroxyapatite(HAP)can have optical properties after doping with various rare earth ions.As a biocompatible fluorescent material,doped HAP could have broad applications in biological probes,drug delivery,optoelectronic materials,fluorescence anti-counterfeiting,and other aspects.In this paper,we put forward the preparation of HAP doped with terbium(Ⅲ)ions(Tb^(3+))by hydrothermal co-precipitation.By controlling the Tb^(3+)doping content in reaction and the reaction time,the changes in HAP's structure,morphology,and luminescence properties under different conditions were studied.When the doping amount of Tb^(3+)reached an optimal value,the dipole-quadrupole would occur and the concentration would be quenched.The control experiment showed that the optimal Tb3+content was 7.5×10^(-5)mol,which showed the best fluorescence performance.HAP,a non-luminous material,was rarely used in the field of fluorescent anti-counterfeiting and photoelectric devices.We proposed to prepare a luminescent aramid/polyphenylene sulfide(ACFs/PPS)fiber paper and a new light-emitting diode(LED)using the Tb-doped HAP phosphor.The composite sample exhibited an excellent stability and fluorescence performance,which also demonstrated a possibility of HAP applications in anticounterfeiting and photoelectric.The introduction of Tb3+dopant HAP was done to give HAP optical properties and broaden the application range of HAP. 展开更多

As a high-performance material for preparing composite materials, polyimide fibers suffer from many potential drawbacks, including poor bonding with other substrates, which results in composite materials with poor mechanical properties. Therefore, this study proposed a simple and rapid technique for obtaining loose, porous polyimide fiber papers by implementing a wet method using equal amounts of polyimide fiber and polyimide fiber paper as reinforcements, respectively. The polyimide resin-based composite materials were prepared by hand lay-up and hot pressing. The results showed that the paper-based reinforcement exhibited high porosity and the fibers were arranged with a uniform pore size distribution. The tensile properties, bending performance, and interlaminar shear performance of the paper-based composite improved by 130%, 108%, and 34.5%, respectively, compared to those of the fiberbased counterpart. The factors affecting the mechanical properties of the composites were analyzed based on the fiber length, fiber beating or lack thereof, and the basis weight of the paper. The increased uniformity of the polyimide fiber paper changed the ordering of the fibers and resolved drawbacks such as difficult dispersion, uneven pore size distribution, and poor mechanical properties related to single fibers in the resin-based composite material. 展开更多

Improvement in synthetic fiber based composites is a hot topic in the material area.The incompatibility between the surfaces of synthetic fibers is a significant challenge due to fibers hydrophobic property.In this study,PET(polyethylene terephthalate) fibers based on low hydrophilic were slightly treated with NaOH or sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate(SDBS).SEM images showed that there were some pits on the surface of PET fibers treated by NaOH,while PET fibers treated by SDBS became smoother.The peaks at 3725 cm^(-1) and 3628 cm^(-1) were generated for PET fibers treated by NaOH,which was attributed to—OH produced from the ester group hydrolysis,but no same peak is shown for the treated ones by SDBS.Meanwhile,the crystallinity indices of the treated PET fibers slightly decreased.Compared with original PET fibers,the formation of sheet made from PET fibers treated by NaOH became worse,but that from SDBS treated PET fibers became better. 展开更多

目的建立烟用内衬纸关键性指标的专用检测方法,初步分析相关指标的影响因素,为其具体应用提供理论依据。方法采用相应的研究方法及国家标准对烟用内衬纸的部分关键性指标(透湿性和成型度)及微观特性指标(厚度、纸张表面pH值和纤维组成)... 目的建立烟用内衬纸关键性指标的专用检测方法,初步分析相关指标的影响因素,为其具体应用提供理论依据。方法采用相应的研究方法及国家标准对烟用内衬纸的部分关键性指标(透湿性和成型度)及微观特性指标(厚度、纸张表面pH值和纤维组成)进行检测,并进一步分析相应微观特性指标对关键性指标的影响。结果采用研究方法测定不同类型烟用内衬纸的透湿性和成型度,发现复合内衬纸的透湿量和成型度均较低,透湿量为0.5544~2.046 g/(m2·24 h),成型度为22°~26°,转移镀铝内衬纸和无铝内衬纸的透湿性和成型度相差不大;内衬纸的微观特性对样品的成型度有一定影响,一般随着厚度的增加内衬纸的成型度随之增加,阔叶木浆用量增加,成型度有降低的趋势。结论建立烟用内衬纸透湿性和成型度的有效检测方法,分析微观特性参数对宏观特性的影响,具有一定的理论和应用价值。 展开更多

In this study,we improved the dispersibility of the stocks in the headbox of an inclined wire machine to produce a distinct paper,and analyzed some factors affecting paper formation in the production of multiply paper.We used FLUENT6.3 to analyze the flow of the stocks in the headbox and select the structure of the diffusion part required for improving the dispersibility of fibers.Moreover,based on a simulation experiment,the optimal rational angle of the diffusion part(g)was found to be approximately 8°~10°,and it improved the paper formation in the case of usage of two plates.Using the equation for the formation of paper layers in the headbox of an inclined wire machine,we obtained a paper with the given basic weight by controlling the inclined angle of the wire(a),initial height of water(H),and concentration of the stocks.We considered the effect of a and H of the stocks in the headbox on the fiber distribution,and according to the results,a should be set as approximately 20°~30°and H should be maximally high.When producing multi-ply paper by a wire,the line pressure of the couch roll should be maintained at 1.8~2.0 kN/m to avoid the damage to the paper sheets.In addition,we found the optimal structure parameter of the dehydrated roll was as follows:hole ratio of approximately 30%of the dehydrated roll surface area,width of 1.5~2.0 mm,slot pitch of 5~6 mm,slot depth of 2~3 mm,and inclined angle of diffusion part(b)of 5°. 展开更多

Fiber-reinforced polymer composites are used in a wide variety of applications due to their many advantages, such as relatively low production costs, ease of fabrication, and superior strength compared to pure polymer resins. Polymer reinforcement can be either synthetic or natural. Synthetic fibers such as carbon have high specific strength, but their application fields are limited due to their high manufacturing cost. Recently, interest in recycled fiber-based composites has increased due to their many advantages. In this context, research has been carried out to better utilize non-woven and paper-based materials to make value-added products. The aim of the current research work is to compare the mechanical performance of non-woven and paper-based reinforced epoxy composites manufactured by the VARTM process. Mechanical properties such as tensile strength, flexural strength (using three-point bending), impact strength, hardness strength, and water absorption were measured. A multi-criteria decision approach called TOPSIS (The Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) was used to select the best alternative from the investigated materials. 展开更多

Bleached softwood kraft pulp (BSKP) fibers were pretreated in a 5 mol/L NaOH aqueous solution at 35℃ for 90 min. The ZnCl2/H2O/ C2H5OH was used to treat the pretreated BSKP fibers, filter papers were then prepared. In the course of processing, the effects of various molar ratios of ZnCl2/H2O/C2H5OH on the filter paper performance were evaluated. SEMEDX was conducted to analyze the physical configuration of the filter papers. Moreover, FT-IR and XPS were performed to further characterize the BSKP, the pretreated BSKP and the filter paper fibers. The results indicated that the fibers treated by ZnCl2/H2O/C2H5OH were swollen and exhibited slight fibrillation, leading to a looser fiber structure and therefore, enhanced filter paper performance. Air permeability increased from 161.7 L/(m2·s) to 1450.4 L/(m2·s) for the filter papers when the molar ratio of ZnCl2/H2O/C2H5OH was 1:14:1. The optimum molar ratio of ZnCl2/H2O/C2H5OH was found to be 1:14:1, and no significant effect of ZnCl2/H2O/C2H5OH on fibers’ functional groups was detected. These results showed that filtration performance of filter papers was improved when treated with the ZnCl2/H2O/C2H5OH solution. 展开更多
