Graphical abstracts(GAs)are emerging as a pivotal tool in medical literature,enhancing the dissemination and comprehension of complex clinical data through visual summaries.This editorial highlights the significant ad...Graphical abstracts(GAs)are emerging as a pivotal tool in medical literature,enhancing the dissemination and comprehension of complex clinical data through visual summaries.This editorial highlights the significant advantages of GAs,including improved clarity,increased reader engagement,and enhanced visibility of research findings.By transforming intricate scientific data into accessible visual formats,these abstracts facilitate quick and effective knowledge transfer,crucial in clinical decision-making and patient care.However,challenges such as potential data misrepresentation due to oversimplification,the skill gap in graphic design among researchers,and the lack of standardized creation guidelines pose barriers to their widespread adoption.Additionally,while software such as Adobe Illustrator,BioRender,and Canva are commonly employed to create these visuals,not all researchers may be proficient in their use.To address these issues,we recommend that academic journals establish clear guidelines and provide necessary design training to researchers.This proactive approach will ensure the creation of high-quality GAs,promote their standardization,and expand their use in clinical reporting,ultimately benefiting the medical community and improving healthcare outcomes.展开更多

Purpose:This study examines the impact of research policy changes on scientific retractions of publications authored by Romanian authors,focusing on national trends and the interplay between policy reforms and publish...Purpose:This study examines the impact of research policy changes on scientific retractions of publications authored by Romanian authors,focusing on national trends and the interplay between policy reforms and publishing practices.Design/methodology/approach:Using data from the Retraction Watch Database and Web of Science(WoS),188 unique retractions involving Romanian authors(2000-2022)were analyzed.The study compared retraction patterns before and after the 2016 reforms,which prioritized the publication of articles in WoS-indexed journals over non-WoS outputs.Findings:The analysis identified two key trends:(1)before the 2016 reforms,retractions predominantly involved non-WoS journals(99 non-WoS retractions to 38 WoS retractions),a trend that reversed post-reform(16 non-WoS to 35 WoS),and(2)while the total number of WoS-indexed retractions increased after the reforms,the retraction rates for WoS articles remained stable.Post-reform reliance on MDPI journals,which have low retraction rates,partially explains this stability.Excluding MDPI publications,retraction rates for articles and reviews increase by 14.91%,aligning with patterns seen elsewhere.Research limitations:The study focuses on retractions involving Romanian authors,limiting its generalizability.Furthermore,reliance on database records may not fully capture all retractions.Practical implications:These findings underscore the need for research policy reforms to consider a broader range of effects,and the need for nuanced interpretations of retraction data,which are influenced by a complex range of factors,including specific publisher practices.Originality/value:This research is the first to investigate the complex relationship between research policy reforms,publisher behavior,and retraction trends.展开更多

Glaucoma,a degenerative optic neuropathy,causes retinal ganglion cell(RGC)apoptosis and irreversible vision loss.Current therapies often fail to stop disease progression despite lowering intraocular pressure,the main ...Glaucoma,a degenerative optic neuropathy,causes retinal ganglion cell(RGC)apoptosis and irreversible vision loss.Current therapies often fail to stop disease progression despite lowering intraocular pressure,the main risk factor.Thus,neuroprotective strategies have gained interest.We performed a bibliometric analysis to determine global publishing trends and relationships among prolific authors,publications,institutions,funding agencies,and journals.We also analyzed author keywords to identify research hotspots in glaucoma neuroprotection.Further,based on keyword analysis,we reviewed most recent literature to understand mechanistic pathways underlying glaucomarelated pathophysiological responses leading to RGC loss.Bibliographic data were sourced from Scopus.Basic bibliographic features were characterized using Scopus’s functions.VOSviewer was used for mapping and visualizing bibliometric networks.The analysis included trends in publications since 2000,the most prolific countries,institutions,authors,and the strength of their linkages.A significant increase in publication output over the past two decades was noted.The United States leads in funding support,research output,and citation links,followed by China and the UK.Among the top 10 most cited authors,three are from Japanese institutions.Keyword analysis shows a focus on molecular targets related to ischemia,excitotoxicity,inflammation,and oxidative stress,with fewer emerging drug candidates and limited clinical trials.Based on the most recent literature,emerging molecular targets underlying these key pathophysiological mechanisms are summarized.In conclusion,while pathophysiology and molecular mechanisms are the current focus,there is not much progress in developing new drug candidates and conducting clinical trials.展开更多
