With the development of online social networks (OSNs) and modern smartphones, sharing photos with friends has become one of the most popular social activities. Since people usually prefer to give others a positive impression, impression management during photo sharing is becoming increasingly important. However, most of the existing privacy-aware solutions have two main drawbacks: Users must decide manually whether to share each photo with others or not, in order to build the desired impression; and users run a high risk of leaking sensitive relational information in group photos during photo sharing, such as their position as part of a couple, or their sexual identity. In this paper, we propose a social rela- tion impression-management (SRIM) scheme to protect relational privacy and to automatically recom- mend an appropriate photo-sharing policy to users. To be more specific, we have designed a lightweight face-distance measurement that calculates the distances between users' faces within group photos by relying on photo metadata and face-detection results. These distances are then transformed into relations using proxemics. Furthermore, we propose a relation impression evaluation algorithm to evaluate and manage relational impressions. We developed a prototype and employed 21 volunteers to verify the functionalities of the SRIM scheme. The evaluation results show the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed scheme. 展开更多

Employing a qualitative view of issues in nonverbal communication, the author offers an explanation of the nature-nurture debate. The anthropological view, taken by Birdwhistell and others, is compared with a Darwinian perspective. In particular, the author looks at how physical appearance, space, and gestures function in a natural way to protect the individuals who are participating in the exchange. Apparent deceit is frequently the result of such interactions. While the traditional arguments arising from religious tenets are discussed, the author explains how the nature approach has been reinforced in the 20th and 21st centuries with DNA and neurological investigations. In the study of nonverbal communication, the arguments about nature and nurture began in the middle of the 20th century with anthropologists, especially Birdwhistell, taking the nurture stance and others taking the nature stance. Ekman's nature stance on kinesics started from premises suggested by Charles Darwin. In large measure, it is because of Ekman's extensive work that the "balance" has somewhat shifted toward a nature view. 展开更多

Communication is not just verbal. This paper concentrates on the three areas of nonverbal communication that will most likely affect contract negotiations, that is proxemic communication, using available space, distance form or proximity to other people, and territorial control. Based on this, the paper tends to provide certain strategies to promote the negotiation. 展开更多

Introduced by Edward Hall in 1966,the term proxemics refers to the physical body space among people communicating with one another. From the intercultural perspective,a specific research into this domain is conducted in this thesis, which delves into the varia tion between Chinese and American interpersonal proximity. With two typical cases demonstrated and analyzed afterward, reasons occasion ing this Sino-US intercultural distinction are listed and further expounded, followed by an incidental mention of the different attitudes to ward space violation in China and in the United States. 展开更多

The environment has become a major social issue in Western countries, especially in France.Today, the Ile-de-France region is at the heart of this new policy to control urban sprawl.Urban sprawl, and more specifically its current and future measurement and evaluation,is a real social issue. The exploration of urban sprawl has therefore been at the heart of geography and Geographic Economics since the early 1980s,when the great developments of the peri-urban area began. With these issues in mind, this article takes a non-Euclidean look at the question of urban sprawl as it relates to speed and space.Essentially,it uses mathematical tools to support dynamics and studies the forms of the city in terms of cartography in a geographic information system. It highlights a methodology that combines, through calculation, different hypotheses from the worlds of physics, spatial psychology, urban planning and engineering sciences.Ultimately, the construction of a system is based on the progressive introduction of various urban hypotheses:population gravitation, fluid mechanics(circulation model),general mechanics of movement and perception of space.By means of computer simulations,it highlights the major trends in urban sprawl within the Ile-de-France region, and aims to predict whether the results are in line with public policy expectations. 展开更多
