To achieve this, the research focused on analysing these metrics across various dimensions, including temporal trends, sex differences, age categories and subnational regions. Methods The data used in this study are sourced directly from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, ensuring that the information is both authoritative and reliable. All-age count estimates and age-standardised rates (per 100 000) were calculated for prevalence, incidence and YLDs. The disease burden indicators were analysed for the period spanning from 1990 to 2021, stratified by sex, age and location. The percentage change between 1990 and 2021 was also documented. The 95% uncertainty interval (UI) was reported for each of the reported estimates. Results The prevalence of depressive disorders in Iran demonstrated a notable upward trend from 1990 to 2021, with the rate of growth being particularly pronounced within the country. The age-standardised prevalence rate per 100 000 individuals for depressive disorders in Iran was 5609 (95% UI 4810 to 6488). By 2021, the number of depression cases in Iran reached 5.2 million, which is approximately 2.37 times the figure reported in 1990. The prevalence of depressive disorders was notably higher among females compared with males. The age-standardised prevalence rate per 100 000 individuals for males was 4184 (95% UI 3545 to 4929). For females, this figure was significantly greater, reaching 7077 (95% UI 6115 to 8172). Out of the total reported cases of depressive disorders in Iran, 3.2 million were observed in females, while males accounted for 2 million cases. Conclusions The findings highlighted the considerable impact of depressive disorders in Iran, both nationally and regionally, while also revealing variations across sex and age groups. Given the shifts in the demographic structure and the growing burden of these disorders, it is essential to prioritise screening initiatives, education programmes and strategies aimed at enhancing mental health awareness and ensuring improved access to mental health services in health policy planning.展开更多

This study aimed to assess the prevalence of these conditions in the urban commune of Dubréka, in Guinea, and to assess the role of demographic and cultural factors in their incidence and management. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 287 participants (174 women and 113 men) in Dubréka. Data were summer collected on the characteristics of sociodemographics, BMI, blood pressure and fasting blood glucose. The prevalence of hypertension and diabetes was determined, and participants’ knowledge and treatment practices were assessed in the summer. The prevalence of hypertension in the study population was 73.52%, affecting both sexes, with women presenting a higher prevalence. The prevalence of diabetes is slightly higher (75.29%) than that of men (70.79%) was 36.59%, with men (38.05%) being slightly more affected than women (35.63%). Obesity and overweight were contributory important factors, affecting respectively 25.78% and 37.28% of the population. Among the hypertensive people, 84.83% were aware of their condition, but only 7.26% received treatment, with no case-controlled hypertension having no summer observed. Socio-economic factors, including the urban setting and proximity to the capital, have probably contributed to these results. The high prevalence of hypertension and diabetes in Dubréka reflects the broader epidemiological transition in sub-Saharan Africa, with women being disproportionately affected by hypertension linked to obesity. Access limited to health care, especially in terms of treatment and care, further aggravates the burden of these diseases. Public health interventions are urgently needed to improve awareness, treatment accessibility and culturally appropriate management strategies adapted to fight against the growing burden of NCDs in Guinea peri-urban.展开更多

Researchers utilized a cross-sectional design to assess HTN prevalence and its risk factors among college students (N = 123). Self-administered surveys comprising four validated questionnaires: the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Rapid Eating Assessment for Participants-Shortened (REAPS), Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension Quality (DASH-Q), and the U.S. Adult Food Security Survey (FSS) were employed. Additionally, physical measurements were conducted, including height, weight, waist circumference (WC), and BP. Results indicated that 71.6% of students had elevated BP, with 24.4% classified as Stage 1 HTN and 23.6% as Stage 2 HTN. Notably, 60% of students reported low adherence to the DASH diet and a mean REAPS score of 26.3 out of 39. Students experiencing marginal food security had higher systolic blood pressure (SBP) 131.7 ± 16.8 mm Hg compared to those with high food security 123.03 ± 11.7 mm Hg (p = 0.028). Furthermore, REAPS scores showed a negative correlation with diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (β = −0.201, p = 0.03). Significant predictors for SBP included WC (β = 0.40, p β = −0.33, p β = 0.16, p = 0.046). The findings highlight the need for BP screenings and nutrition education programs to improve dietary habits among college students, which may help reduce HTN and its associated long-term risks for CVD.展开更多

It is associated with both maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. The general objective of our study is to determine the prevalence and profile of pregnant women, and to assess the maternal and perinatal prognosis of adolescent childbirth in Kisangani. Methods: This was a prospective, multicenter, case-control observational study conducted over a seven-month period, from February 1 to August 31, 2024, in primiparous adolescent gestational carriers (cases) and primiparous gestational carriers aged 20 to 34 years (controls) who delivered in five health facilities in the city of Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo. Results: The prevalence of teenage childbirth was 13.8%. Adolescents were more likely than controls to be in secondary education and to be unemployed. Compared with controls, pregnant adolescents were more likely to have poor ANC attendance. There was a statistical difference between the two groups in relation to pelvic anomaly, rupture of membranes on admission, hypertensive disorders, vicious presentation, caesarean section, episiotomy, postpartum anaemia and puerperal psychosis. In fact, these morbidities were more common in adolescent girls than in controls. Compared with controls, neonatal depression, prematurity, low birth weight and perinatal death were more prevalent in the newborns of teenage mothers. Conclusion: The prevalence of teenage childbirth is high in Kisangani;there is an association between unmarried status, lack of employment, low socio-economic status, poor ANC follow-up and teenage childbirth in Kisangani. The latter is also associated with high maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality.展开更多

Its prevalence is increasing due to the perpetuity of carriers of the trait who are able to marry. Women aged 18 to 35 years constitute the most reproductive age group. This study was conducted with the aim of determining the prevalence of sickle cell trait among women aged 18 to 35 years and the attitude of women carriers towards the choice of a carrier spouse. Materials and methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study with analytical aims conducted from March to September 2024 in Kisangani. A total of 215 women aged 18 to 35 years presented for screening for sickle cell trait. This study described the following parameters: Sociodemographic data (age, level of education, socioeconomic level, marital status), obstetric and medical history (obstetric formula, sickle cell disease, high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, asthma), knowledge of sickle cell disease (etiological classification, transmission, prevention, high-risk marriages, clinical manifestations, progression of the disease), attitude of the woman in relation to the choice of an AS spouse, as well as the reasons justifying each attitude. Results: The prevalence of sickle cell trait was 23.7% (51/215). A total of 64.3% of respondents had accepted the choice of spouse before confirmation of carrier status and 73.8% had refused after confirmation of carrier status. Choice was significantly related to age (p-value = 0.027), occupation (p-value = 0.015), parity (p-value = 0.039) and gesture (p-value = 0.034) before test. The ignorance of the union at risk was associated with the risk (p = 0.005;OR: 9.10;CI 95%: 2.03 - 4.81) of accepting the choice of a spouse carrying the trait. Conclusion: The prevalence of sickle cell trait among women aged 18 to 35 years in Kisangani remains within the limits of that of the general population. The choice of a spouse carrying sickle cell trait is associated with the woman’s age, her profession, parity, gestation and her knowledge about high-risk unions. Screening campaigns and health education sessions enable women carrying sickle cell trait to make a wise choice.展开更多
文摘BACKGROUND Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)infection is a prevalent disease encountered in military internal medicine and recognized as the main cause of dyspepsia, gastritis, and peptic ulcer, which are common diseases in military personnel.Current guidelines in China state all patients with evidence of active infection with H.pylori are offered treatment. However, the prevalence of H.pylori infection and its regional distribution in the military population remain unclear, which hinders effective prevention and treatment strategies.Understanding the prevalence of H.pylori infection in the military population will aid in the development of customized strategies to better manage this infectious disease.AIM To investigate the prevalence of H.pylori infection in the Chinese military population in different geographic areas.METHODS This multicenter, retrospective study included 22421 individuals from five tertiary hospitals located in north, east, southwest, and northwest cities of China.H.pylori infection was identified using the urea breath test, which had been performed between January 2020 and December 2021.RESULTS Of the 22421 military service members,7416(33.1%)were urea breath test-positive.The highest prevalence of H.pylori was in the 30-39 years age group for military personnel, with an infection rate of 34.9%.The majority of infected subjects were younger than 40-years-old,accounting for 70.4%of the infected population. The individuals serviced in Lanzhou and Chengdu showed a higher infection prevalence than those in Beijing,Nanjing, and Guangzhou, with prevalence rates of 44.3%,37.9%,29.0%,31.1%,and 32.3%,respectively.CONCLUSION H.pylori infection remains a common infectious disease among military personnel in China and has a relatively high prevalence rate in northwest China.
文摘BACKGROUND Fear of childbirth(FoC)is a widespread issue that impacts the health and well-being of mothers and newborns. However, there is inconsistency regarding the prevalence of FoC in the and there is limited research on the prevalence of FoC among Australian pregnant women.AIM To investigate the prevalence of FoC,its risk factors and birth outcomes in Aust-ralian multiparous women.METHODS In this prospective cohort quantitative study,212 multiparous women were re-cruited from antenatal clinics at Westmead Hospital in western Sydney from 2019 to 2022.Pregnant women who attended antenatal visits and met the inclusion criteria signed the consent forms and completed several online questionnaires at baseline. After they gave birth, their birth outcomes were collected from the hospital’s medical record database. The data were analyzed using SPSS software and descriptive statistics,χ^(2)test,independent samples t-test,and multivariable logistic regression analysis.RESULTS Out of 212 participants,24%experienced a high level of FoC and 7%experienced severe FoC.Theχ^(2)test results revealed that a family income of≤$100000,no alcohol intake during pregnancy,pre-existing health problems, previous caesarean section(emergency or planned),and previous neutral/traumatic childbirth experiences were significantly associated with higher levels of FoC(P<0.05).Other risk factors included being moderately to very worried and fearful about the upcoming birth, having severe to extremely severe anxiety throughout pregnancy, and expressing low relationship satisfaction.According to multivariable logistic regression, the odds of a high level of FoC were higher in women with anxiety,a history of traumatic childbirth experience,a history of sexual assault during childhood,pre-existing health problems, and lower relationship satisfaction(P<0.05).CONCLUSION High-severe levels of FoC are experienced by pregnant multiparous women and are affected by several demo-graphic factors. However, due to the small sample size in the present study, further studies with larger sample sizes are required to draw a firm conclusion on the prevalence of severe FoC among multiparous women and its associated risk factors and birth outcomes.

文摘Background Post-stroke depression(PSD)is a common neuropsychiatric problem associated with a high disease burden and reduced quality of life(QoL).To date, few studies have examined the network structure of depressive symptoms and their relationships with QoL in stroke survivors.Aims This study aimed to explore the network structure of depressive symptoms in PSD and investigate the interrelationships between specific depressive symptoms and QoL among older stroke survivors. Methods This study was based on the 2017–2018 collection of data from a large national survey in China.Depressive symptoms were assessed using the 10-item Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale(CESD),while QoL was measured with the World Health Organization Quality of Life-brief version.Network analysis was employed to explore the structure of PSD,using expected influence(EI)to identify the most central symptoms and the flow function to investigate the association between depressive symptoms and QoL.Results A total of 1123 stroke survivors were included, with an overall prevalence of depression of 34.3%(n=385;95%confidence interval 31.5%to 37.2%).In the network model of depression, the most central symptoms were CESD3(‘feeling blue/depressed’,EI:1.180),CESD6(‘feeling nervous/fearful’,EI:0.864)and CESD8(‘loneliness’,EI:0.843).In addition,CESD5(‘hopelessness’,EI:−0.195),CESD10(‘sleep disturbances’,EI:−0.169)and CESD4(‘everything was an effort’,EI:−0.150)had strong negative associations with QoL.Conclusion This study found that PSD was common among older Chinese stroke survivors.Given its negative impact on QoL,appropriate interventions targeting central symptoms and those associated with QoL should be developed and implemented for stroke survivors with PSD.
文摘Background Mental disorders rank among the leading contributors to the global disease burden, with depressive disorders being among the most prevalent.Aims The objective of this study is to examine the prevalence, incidence and years lived with disability (YLDs) associated with depressive disorders, particularly major depressive disorder and dysthymia, in Iran from 1990 to 2021. Given the shifts in the demographic structure and the growing burden of these disorders, it is essential to prioritise screening initiatives, education programmes and strategies aimed at enhancing mental health awareness and ensuring improved access to mental health services in health policy planning.
文摘Hypertension high blood pressure (HTN) and diabetes Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) growing in sub-Saharan Africa, under the effect of urbanization, changes in socio-economic and lifestyle-related factors. Public health interventions are urgently needed to improve awareness, treatment accessibility and culturally appropriate management strategies adapted to fight against the growing burden of NCDs in Guinea peri-urban.
文摘Early onset of hypertension (HTN) raises the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), the leading cause of death in the U.S. For university students who do not follow healthy diets or lifestyles, high blood pressure (BP) may be markedly prevalent. The findings highlight the need for BP screenings and nutrition education programs to improve dietary habits among college students, which may help reduce HTN and its associated long-term risks for CVD.
文摘Objective:This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and determinants of metabolic syndrome(MetS)among the population in Gannan(Southern Jiangxi),and to develop a nomogram for MetS prediction. Methods:In 2022,a multi-stage stratified random sampling method was used to select permanent residents aged 35 years and above in southern Jiangxi as study participants.MetS was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation(IDF)criteria.Participants'demographics, medical history, blood biochemistry data, and anthropometric variables were collected to screen for significant variables for the prediction model of MetS.Multivariable logistic regression was employed to explore the factors associated with MetS.Subsequently, the data were divided into a training set and a validation set,and a nomogram was developed to create the predictive model for MetS.The training set was utilized for nomogram model construction and preliminary validation, while the validation set was used for internal validation. The performance of the nomogram was assessed based on receiver operating characteristic curve(ROC),calibration curves, and decision curve analysis(DCA).Results:A total of 1581 participants were enrolled in the study, revealing a prevalence of MetS of 27.39%(95%CI:25.19%-29.59%).The age-standardized prevalence was calculated to be 27.81%.Nine variables were identified as influencing factors for MetS:age, residence, occupation, history of hyperlipidemia, history of hyperuricemia, hip circumference, glycated hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c),resting heart rate(RHR),and body mass index(BMI).The participants were randomly divided into a training set(n=1107,70%)and a validation set(n=474,30%).The nomogram was validated through preliminary validation area under curve(AUC:0.844)and internal validation(AUC:0.825).Calibration plots demonstrated good agreement in the training sets. Conclusion:The prevalence of MetS is notably high in Ganzhou,Jiangxi. The nomogram, which is based on age, residence, occupation, history of hyperlipidemia, history of hyperuricemia, hip circumference,HbA1c,RHR and BMI variables, exhibits strong predictive efficacy and can be utilized to assess the risk of MetS in middle-aged and elderly populations.

文摘Introduction: Adolescent childbirth is a public health and social problem worldwide. The latter is also associated with high maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality.

文摘In this editorial we comment on the article by Mohamed et al published in the recent issue of World Journal of Psychiatry.Globally, health care workers are facing a major problem called burnout syndrome, which is characterized by emotional alienation, burnout, and decreased personal fulfillment. This physical and mental stress has a significant impact on the quality of care and health of medical per-sonnel.This study delves into the challenges facing Somalia’s healthcare system, such as lack of resources, heavy workloads, long working hours, and high-pressure environments that make healthcare personnel particularly vulnerable to burnout. This situation further affects their mental health and the quality of care services.Research shows that about 25%of healthcare professionals are affected by burnout syndrome.By improving the quality of sleep, strengthening monitoring, and providing mental health support, the health status of medical personnel and patient care can be effectively improved. The findings highlight the need for interventions including improved sleep quality, enhanced mental health monitoring and support, appropriate workload management,a supportive work climate, and effective time management strategies in the workplace to enhance health staff well-being and the quality of patient care. These measures are critical to addressing the current challenges of the healthcare system, improving patient care and prioritizing the well-being of frontline healthcare staff.
文摘BACKGROUND Diabetes distress(DD),an emotional problem arising from the challenges of living with diabetes and the relentless burden of daily self-management,is common among patients with type 2 diabetes(T2D).South Asia has a high T2D burden, and many studies have reported varying prevalence rates of DD in this area.AIM To estimate the pooled prevalence of DD among patients with T2D in South Asia,as it is crucial for developing effective therapeutic strategies.METHODS This systematic review and meta-analysis included cross-sectional studies conducted in South Asian countries involving adults with T2D and reported the prevalence of DD.The studies were identified by searching multiple electronic databases and registries from the inception of each database to January 30,2025,using prespecified search terms.Four authors screened and extracted data independently.Meta-analyses were conducted using RStudio software with a random-effects model. The primary outcome was the pooled prevalence of DD.RESULTS Thirty-seven cross-sectional studies(28 from India, five from Bangladesh, and two each from Pakistan and Sri Lanka)with mostly high methodological quality involving 11500 subjects were included. The pooled prevalence of DD was 44%(95%confidence interval:35-53,I2=97.4%).The prevalence of DD was highest in Pakistan(85%),followed by India and Bangladesh(42%each),and Sri Lanka(25%).Emotional burden was the most prevalent form of DD(60%),followed by treatment regimen-related distress(51%),interpersonal distress(31%),and physician-related distress(17%).Meta-regression analysis revealed no significant associations between the prevalence of DD and publication year, sample size, proportion of females, age, duration of diabetes, insulin usage, glycated hemoglobin levels,or diabetic complications.CONCLUSION South Asians with T2D seem to experience a relatively high burden of DD,and the emotional burden is the most common form of DD in this area.Larger studies utilizing unique tools and involving a broader participant base from the region would provide better epidemiological data for effectively planning high-quality diabetes care in South Asian countries.
文摘Background: Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common, bothersome and relatively under diagnosed complication of diabetes mellitus. This study was aimed to determine the prevalence of erectile dysfunction and its determinants. Methods: A cross-sectional hospital-based study was carried out in the Diabetology Units of the Buea and Limbe Regional Hospitals involving 332 male patients with diabetes and aged over 21 years. Data was analyzed using Stata and R version 3.5.3. Results: The mean age of the participants was 55years. Most participants (64.46%) were married. About half (50.60%) of the participants actively consumed alcohol, 11.45% were smokers and 57.83% were sedentary. 18 participants (5.42%) recorded high risk sexual behaviour. 54.32% of participants had a comorbidity and 43.90% were overweight. The prevalence of diabetic ED was 78.92%. Age, Fasting Blood Sugar and Glycated hemoglobin were found to be positive determinants of diabetic ED (odds ratio (OR) = 0.77, 95% CI −0.1 - 0.07). Conclusion: The prevalence of diabetic ED in this hospital population study is high, and both physician and patient—initiated measures are needed to reduce this prevalence and improve awareness, recognition and care of this condition.
文摘BACKGROUND Hip dysplasia is a widespread and debilitating musculoskeletal disorder that affects children. Its prevalence varies across different nations.AIM To evaluate the prevalence of developmental hip dysplasia(DDH)within the pediatric population of Al Jouf province.METHODS From January 2018 to December 2023,children with DDH from all cities of Al Jouf were included in this retrospective cross-sectional study. The disease prevalence was calculated for the entire province as well as for individual cities within the territory.RESULTS The study included 427 patients with DDH with an overall prevalence of 0.50%,or 5.0 per 1000 live births. At the city level,Sakaka had the highest prevalence at 14.2 per 1000 Live births followed by Qurayyat at 2.2 per 1000 live births. In contrast, cities like Suwayr,Abu Ajram, and Meegowa did not show any incidence of DDH.Significant differences were observed in the sociodemographic characteristics, such as age, sex, and nationality, across the different cities(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The prevalence of DDH in the Al Jouf province is high. The data delivers invaluable insights into the epidemiology of DDH in the Al Jouf locality. The findings highlight the need for targeted screening of DDH across the province.
文摘Introduction: Uterine rupture is certainly one of the most serious, as it immediately jeopardises the vital prognosis of the mother and foetus. It is a common obstetric tragedy in our delivery rooms in countries with limited resources, reflecting the poor quality of obstetric care and, consequently, an unmet obstetric need. Methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study with prospective data collection over a four-year period from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2023 at the University Hospital Centre (CHU) of Bouaké, in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department. The variables studied were epidemiological characteristics, therapeutic aspects and factors associated with maternal. Results: The prevalence of uterine rupture was 0.63%. The average age was 32, with patients aged 35 and over accounting for 33.68%, married 44.21% and 70% not in education. Patients with uterine rupture had been evacuated in 85.26% of cases. Uterine rupture was diagnosed in 97.89% of cases during labour. Maternal lethality due to rupture was 15.79%. The causes of maternal death were dominated by haemorrhagic shock (53.33%). Factors statistically associated with death were age ≥ 35 years (OR: 3.14), duration of labour ≥ 12 hours (OR: 5.8), multiparity (OR: 19.04), admission delay beyond 2 hours (OR: 4.36), haemoglobin level ≤ 7 g/dl (OR: 36.84), coma or obnubilation (OR: 71.82), haemorrhagic shock (OR: 243.94) and occurrence of post-operative complications (OR: 76.45). Conclusion: The frequency of uterine rupture remains significant in the department (0.63%), with maternal mortality still high (15.79%). The key to reducing uterine rupture and its consequences lies in timely referral and early, appropriate management.
文摘Concerned that fewer than 20%of adolescents meet the World Health Organization(WHO)’s physical activity(PA)guidelines of engaging in≥60 min each day of the week of moderate-to-vigorous PA(MVPA),classifying them as insufficiently active,1 Araujo et al.2 sought to identify the global prevalence of adolescents reporting less frequent MVPA(≥60 min per day of MVPA≥1 days per week)and identify differences in this prevalence by age, gender.

文摘Background As the population in China rapidly ages, the prevalence of mild cognitive impairment(MCI)is increasing considerably. However, the causes of MCI vary. The continued lack of understanding of the various subtypes of MCI impedes the implementation of effective measures to reduce the risk of advancing to more severe cognitive diseases.Aims To estimate the prevalence and incidence rates of two MCI subtypes—amnestic MCI(aMCI)and vascular cognitive impairment without dementia(VCIND)—and to determine modifiable factors for them among older individuals in a multiregional Chinese cohort.Method This 1-year longitudinal study surveyed a random sample of participants aged≥60 years from a large,community-dwelling cohort in China.Baseline lifestyle data were self-reported,while vascular and comorbid conditions were obtained from medical records and physical examinations. In total,3514 and 2051 individuals completed the baseline and 1-year follow-up assessments, respectively.Logistic and linear regression analyses were used to identify the modifiable factors for MCI subtypes and predictors of cognitive decline, respectively. Results Among our participants,aMCI and VCIND demonstrated prevalence of 14.83%and 2.71%,respectively,and annual incidence(per 1000 person-years)of 69.6 and 10.6,respectively.The risk factor for aMCI was age, whereas its protective factors were high education level, tea consumption and physical activity. Moreover,VCIND risk factors were age, hypertension and depression. The presence of endocrine disease, cerebral trauma or hypertension was associated with a faster decline in cognition over 1 year. Conclusions MCI is a serious health problem in China that will only worsen as the population ages if no widespread interventions are implemented.Preventive strategies that promote brain activity and support healthy lifestyle choices are required. We identified modifiable factors for MCI in older individuals. The easy-to-adopt solutions such as tea consumption and physical activity can aid in preventing MCI.
文摘Introduction: Sickle cell disease is one of the most common autosomal recessive inherited diseases. Screening campaigns and health education sessions enable women carrying sickle cell trait to make a wise choice.
