Methods: The epoxy resin three dimensional photoelasticity patellar models were made by precise moulding, and were fixated by nitinol patellar concentrator (NT-PC), tension band and wire circle respectively. The patellar models with frozen stress stripes were put into the polarized light field and the stress distributions were compared. As for the model fixated by NT-PC, by dividing layer, photographing and tracing, we used the iterative method to calculate the stress value of every internal node of the epoxy resin patellar model, and the character of stress was analyzed. Results: An overall stress field was yielded when the patellar model was fixated by NT-PC, and the stripes were more than that of tension band model and wire circle model, which have only few stress stripes in the fixated layers. Further analysis indicated that there were continuous fixated stresses in the facies articularis and distal pole of patella, and the character of stresses produced by NT-PC were mainly in longitudinal direction, then in transverse direction. Two sets of acrylic teeth with anatomic and non-anatomic occlusal forms were used to fabricate upper and lower dentures. A vertical static load of 100 N was applied through the mandibular model to the maxillary model. After load application on the dentures the photoelastic model as well as the upper and lower complete dentures were sectioned in the midline. The sectioned photoelastic model was viewed through a polariscope to observe the fringe pattern indicating varying amounts of stress distribution. In this study, a two-dimensional photoelastic stress analysis technique was utilized. Results: Force per unit area was observed more in anatomic teeth than the non-anatomic counterpart. Hence anatomic tooth forms may increase the possibility of bone resorption rate over a period of time. However, in non-anatomic lower teeth, a decrease in value was observed from posterior to anterior region. Conclusion: Stress of greater magnitude was observed with cuspal teeth whereas non-anatomic (0°) showed slightly less magnitude of stress. Depending upon the clinical situation the clinician needs to choose the type of occlusal tooth forms for edentulous patients.展开更多

This is a hybrid method combining the optical method of dynamic caustics and the boundary element numerical method. Firstly, a modified Cranz-Schardin spark camera is used to record simultaneously the isochromatic fringe patterns of photoelasticity and the shadow spot patterns in the dynamic process. By means of the isochromatic fringe patterns, the difference between transient principal stresses in the whole domain and the principal stresses along the free boundary can be solved. In addition, the method of caustics is a very powerful technique for measuring the concentrative load. Then, the sum of the principal stresses is calculated by the boundary integral equation obtained from the Laplace integral transform of the wave equation. So, the transient principal stresses can be determined from the experimental and numerical results. As an example, the transient principal stresses in a polycarbonate disk under an impact load are resolved.展开更多

The principal stresses at the bi-material interface crack-tip are theoretically determined using the combination photoelastic and isopachic fringes. The size and the shape of crack-tip isochro-matic and isopachic fringes, at a bi-material interface under static load, are studied. When the crack-tip, which is perpendicular to interface, is placed at the interface of the bi-material, the isochromatic and the isopachic fringes depend on the properties of the two materials. Thus, the isochromatic and the isopachic fringes are divided into two branches, which present a jump of values at the interface. The size of the two branches mainly depends on the elastic modulus and the Poisson’s ratio of the two materials. From the combination of the isochromatic and the isopachic fringes, the principal stresses σ1 and σ2 can be estimated and the contour curves around the crack-tip can be plotted. For the FEA analysis, the program ANSYS 11.0 was used. The bi-material cracked plates were made from Lexan (BCBA) and Plexiglas (PMMA).展开更多

文摘Recent progress in direct photodetection of light orbital angular momentum(OAM)based on the orbital photogalvanic effect(OPGE)provides an effective way for on-chip direct electric readout of orbital angular momentum,as well as large-scale integration focal-plane array devices. However, the recognition of OAM order from photocurrent response requires the extraction of circular polarization-dependent response. To date, the operation speed of such a detector is currently at the minute level and is limited by slow mechanical polarization modulation and low OAM recognition capability. We demonstrate that the operation speed can be greatly improved via an electrical polarization modulation strategy with a photoelastic modulator(PEM)accompanied by a phase-locked readout approach with a lock-in amplifier. We demonstrate an operation speed of up to kilohertz level with this new technology in the mid-infrared region(4μm)on an OAM detector using multilayer graphene as photosensitive material. In principle, with a new modulation and readout scheme,we can potentially increase the operation speed to megahertz with a PEM that operates at a state-ofthe-art speed. Our work paves the way toward high-speed operation of direct OAM detection devices based on the OPGE effect and pushes such technology to a more practical stage for focal plane array applications.

文摘Epoxy resin is widely used in the support, insulation, and packaging components of electrical equipment owing to their excellent insulation, thermal, and mechanical properties.However,epoxy-resin insulation often suffers from thermal and mechanical stresses under extreme environmental conditions and a compact design, which can induce electrical tree degradation and insulation failure in electrical equipment. In this study, the photoelastic method is employed to investigate the thermal-mechanical coupling stress dependence of the electrical treeing behavior of epoxy resin.Typical electrical tree growth morphology and stress distribution were observed using the photoelastic method. The correlation between the tree length and overall accumulated damage with an increase in mechanical stress is determined. The results show that compressive stress retards the growth of electrical trees along the electric field, while tensile stress has accelerating effects. This proves that the presence of thermal stress can induce more severe accumulated damage.

文摘In this paper,we present a method to expedite multi-wavelength photoelasticity for efficient stress analysis.By modulating two slightly different-wavelength illumination beams and simultaneously capturing dark-field and bright-field images, our approach acquires four essential polarized images.Spatial filtering of Fourier transforms streamlines inner stress computation, enabling multi-wavelength photoelasticity with a single detector exposure.Theoretical foundations are outlined, and proof-of-principle experiments validate the feasibility with a measurement error below 6.4%.The high measurement speed, determined by the detector’s frame rate, facilitates dynamic sample measurements at video frequency, offering promising advancements in material stress analysis.
文摘By using the dynamic photoelastic method and our technique of fabricating an internal crack in solid , the scattered waves of incident grazing longitudinal ultrasonic wave pulse by a ribbon-type crack are ob-served and analyzed . In particular, the distribution of the intensity of the scattered head wave is measured quantitatively . The experimental results fairly agree with the theoretical ones given in ref. [ 1 ] .
