Subducted Paleo-Tethyan Oceanic Slab beneath West Qinling,China Revealed by P-wave Anisotropic Tomography

The subduction and closure history of the Paleo-Tethyan Ocean is of significant importance to the formation of the Alpine-Himalayan orogenic belt.However,in West Qinling,China,the evolution of the subducted Paleo-Tethyan oceanic slab in the mantle remains unclear.In this work,we determine high-resolution P-wave azimuthal anisotropic tomography of the crust and upper mantle beneath west Qinling by inverting newly collected local and teleseismic data.The local earthquakes are relocated by jointly using permanent and portable stations and weighted by their hypocentral errors during the inversion.Our model reveals a slab-like high P-wave velocity(V_(p))anomaly below 300 km depth and significant depth variations of anisotropy in the upper mantle beneath the West Qinling orogen.By comparing with previous geophysical results and integrating with geological and geochemical findings,we interpret that this high-V_(p)anomaly is most likely the subducted Mianlue oceanic slab preserved in the upper mantle and the mantle transition zone since the early Mesozoic.Beneath the Songpan-Ganzi block and the Longzhong basin,low-V anomalies with weak azimuthal anisotropy suggest a vertical mantle upwelling at a depth of 120 to 200 km,providing positive buoyancy to the subducted oceanic slab and extends its stagnation duration in the upper mantle. 展开更多

To explore the formation mechanism of anisotropy in Ti-6Al-4V alloy fabricated by selective laser melting(SLM),the compressive mechanical properties,microhardness,microstructure,and crystallographic orientation of the alloy across different planes were investigated.The anisotropy of SLM-fabricated Ti-6Al-4V alloys was analyzed,and the electron backscatter diffraction technique was used to investigate the influence of different grain types and orientations on the stress-strain distribution at various scales.Results reveal that in room-temperature compression tests at a strain rate of 10^(-3) s^(-1),both the compressive yield strength and microhardness vary along the deposition direction,indicating a certain degree of mechanical property anisotropy.The alloy exhibits a columnar microstructure;along the deposition direction,the grains appear equiaxed,and they have internal hexagonal close-packed(hcp)α/α'martensitic structure.α'phase has a preferential orientation approximately along the<0001>direction.Anisotropy arises from the high aspect ratio of columnar grains,along with the weak texture of the microstructure and low symmetry of the hcp crystal structure. 展开更多

We report a comprehensive investigation of the superconducting properties of the mineral superconductor covellite(Cu S)using high-quality single crystals.First,we establish that Cu S is an intrinsic type-Ⅱsuperconductor,correcting its long-standing classification as type-Ⅰ.Second,a complete set of anisotropic superconducting parameters is determined,including the critical fields,penetration depth and coherence length,which yield a Ginzburg–Landau parameterκ~1.5 and a moderate anisotropy ofγ~2.Our results indicate that this type-Ⅱsuperconductivity can be well-described by a conventional,weak-coupling,single-band s-wave pairing mechanism.This work fills a long-standing gap in the understanding of this archetypal superconductor. 展开更多

Tensile stress annealing(TSA)is an effective strategy for tailoring magnetic anisotropy and high-frequency performance in nanocrystalline soft magnetic alloys.Here,we systematically investigate the influence of TSA on the microstructure,magnetic domain evolution,and permeability stability of Fe_(69.5)Co_(3)Nb_(2)Mo_(1.5)Si_(14)B_(9)Cu_(1)nanocrystalline alloys.Across all applied stresses(0-300 MPa),the alloys retain an ultrafine grain size(≤11 nm),yet the induced uniaxial anisotropy constant(K_(u))rises sharply from 22.5 to 665 J/m^(3).This increase in K u refines the magnetic domain structure,reducing average domain width from 110 to 36μm,and shifts the magnetization mechanism from domain-wall displacement to rotation-dominated reversal.Quantitative correlation between K u,domain structure,and effective permeability(μ_(e))reveals that higher stress suppressesμ_(e)at low frequencies but yields exceptional frequency stability:μ_(e)≈2330 is maintained up to 1 MHz at 50 MPa,andμ_(e)≈585 remains constant from1 kHz to 10 MHz at 300 MPa.These findings demonstrate thatstress-induced anisotropy is a decisive factor in governinghigh-frequency magnetic response,offering both mechanisticinsight and a practical framework for designing next-generation soft magnetic materials for precision current transformers,EMC filters,and MHz-class power electronics. 展开更多

It is essential to study the porosity,thermal conductivity,and P-wave velocity of calcarenites,as well as the anisotropy coefficients of the thermal conductivity and P-wave velocity,for civil engineering,and conservation and restoration of historical monuments.This study focuses on measuring the thermal conductivity using the thermal conductivity scanning(TCS)technique and measuring the P-wave ve-locity using portable equipment.This was applied for some dry and saturated calcarenite samples in the horizontal and vertical directions(parallel and perpendicular to the bedding plane,respectively).The calcarenites were selected from some historical monuments in Morocco.These physical properties were measured in the laboratory to find a reliable relationship between all of these properties.As a result of the statistical analysis of the obtained data,excellent linear relationships were observed between the porosity and both the thermal conductivity and porosity.These relationships are characterized by relatively high coefficients of determination for the horizontal and vertical samples.Based on the thermal conductivity and P-wave velocity values in these two directions,the anisotropy coefficients of these two properties were calculated.The internal structure and the pore fabric of the calcarenite samples were delineated using scanning electron microscopy(SEM),while their chemical and mineral compositions were studied using the energy dispersive X-ray analysis(EDXA)and X-ray diffraction(XRD)techniques. 展开更多

Forecasting Fractures in Coal Seams by Using Azimuthal Anisotropy from P-Wave Seismic Data 被引量:9

If the thickness of coal seams and the lithology of both roofs and floors of coal seams have not changed at all or only a little, then it is thought that the elastic anisotropy of coal seams depends mainly on fractures and obeys the horizontally symmetric model of an azimuth anisotropy. For a fixed offset, the amplitude A of the reflection P-wave and the cosine of 2φ has an approximately linear relation, (φ is the source-detector azimuth with respect to the fracture strike. Based on this relationship, many things can be done, such as the extraction of macro bins, the correction of residual normal moveout, the formation of azimuth gather, the transformation and normalization of azimuth gathers and the extraction of reflection wave amplitudes of coal seams. The least squares method was used to inverse theoretically the direction and density of fractures of coal seams. The result is in good agreement with the regional geological structure, indicating that the azimuth anisotropic analysis of the P-wave is feasible in evaluating the density and direction of fractures in coal seams. 展开更多

A single set of vertically aligned cracks embedded in a purely isotropic background may be con- sidered as a long-wavelength effective transversely iso- tropy (HTI) medium with a horizontal symmetry axis. The crack-induced HTI anisotropy can be characterized by the weakly anisotropic parameters introduced by Thomsen. The seismic scattering theory can be utilized for the inversion for the anisotropic parameters in weakly aniso- tropic and heterogeneous HTI media. Based on the seismic scattering theory, we first derived the linearized PP- and PS-wave reflection coefficients in terms of P- and S-wave impedances, density as well as three anisotropic parameters in HTI media. Then, we proposed a novel Bayesian Mar- kov chain Monte Carlo inversion method of PP- and PS- wave for six elastic and anisotropic parameters directly. Tests on synthetic azimuthal seismic data contaminated by random errors demonstrated that this method appears more accurate, anti-noise and stable owing to the usage of the constrained PS-wave compared with the standards inver- sion scheme taking only the PP-wave into account. 展开更多

The existence of aligned fractures in fluid-saturated rocks leads to obvious attenuation anisotropy and velocity anisotropy. Attenuation anisotropy analysis can be applied to estimate fracture density and scale, which provide important information for reservoir identification. This paper derives P-wave attenuation anisotropy in the ATI media where the symmetry axis is in the arbitrary direction theoretically and modifies the spectral ratio method to measure attenuation anisotropy in the ATI media, thus avoiding a large measurement error when applied to wide azimuth or full azimuth data. Fracture dip and azimuth can be estimated through attenuation anisotropy analysis. For small-scale fractures, fracture scale and fracture density can be determined with enhanced convergence if velocity and attenuation information are both used. We also apply the modified spectralratio method to microseismic field data from an oilfield in East China and extract the fracture dip through attenuation anisotropy analysis. As a prototypical half-metallic ferromagnet,La_(0.67)Sr_(0.33)MnO_(3)(LSMO)has been extensively studied due to its versatile physical properties and great potential in spintronic applications.However,the weak perpendicular magnetic anisotropy(PMA)limits the controllability and detection of magnetism in LSMO,thus hindering the realization of oxide-based spintronic devices with low energy consumption and high integration level.Motivated by this challenge,we develop an experimental approach to enhance the PMA of LSMO epitaxial films.By cooperatively introducing 4d Ru doping and a moderate compressive strain,the maximum uniaxial magnetic anisotropy in Ru-doped LSMO can reach 3.0×10^(5)J/m^(3)at 10 K.Furthermore,we find a significant anisotropic magnetoresistance effect in these Ru-doped LSMO films,which is dominated by the strong PMA.Our findings offer an effective pathway to harness and detect the orientations of magnetic moments in LSMO films,thus promoting the feasibility of oxide-based spintronic devices,such as spin valves and magnetic tunnel junctions. 展开更多

The Middle-Lower Yangtze River is a typical transition region between the nearly NW-oriented Tethys and NE-trending Pacific tectonic regimes.Structures of different periods and directions overlap strongly during these processes.The NE-trending Yangtze River compound structural belt and NW-trending Tongling-Hangzhou structural belt both control the magmatic activities and distributions of the metallogenic belts in the area.Here,we obtain 3-D high-resolution isotropic and azimuthally anisotropic velocity structures at depths of 1–10 km using the first arrivals from airgun sources.The velocity maps correspond well with the tectonic structures,with high-velocity anomalies distributed in ore-concentrated districts and low-velocity anomalies distributed along the Yangtze River.The fast directions are generally consistent with the fault strike,indicating that the azimuthal anisotropy is mainly dominated by the fault and fracture trends in the upper crust.The complicated fast directions near the Luzong and Tongling ore deposits reveal complex deformations in the upper crust,which are mainly caused by the intersection of the Yangtze River compound and Tongling-Hangzhou structural belts.The magma intrusion beneath the two ore deposits(Luzong and Tongling)are connected at depths of 5–10 km. 展开更多

Significant reduction of anisotropy in stress relaxation aging and mechanical properties improvement for 2195 Al-Cu-Li alloy subjected to plastic loading 被引量:3

Although the plastic loading can enhance creep deformation and yield strength,the anisotropic Stress Relaxation Aging(SRA)behavior and mechanism under plastic loading remain unclear,which presents a significant challenge in accurately shaping aluminum alloy panels.In this study,the SRA behavior of 2195-T4 Al-Cu-Li alloys were thoroughly studied under initial loading stresses within the elastic(210/250 MPa)and plastic(380/420 MPa)ranges at 180℃by stress relaxation and tensile tests as well as microstructure characterization.The findings reveal that compared with those under elastic loadings,in-plane anisotropy(IPA)values of the stress relaxation amount,yield strength and fracture elongation under plastic loadings are reduced by 60%–80%,70%–90% and 72%–89%,respectively.Similarly,IPA values of precipitate size in grains and PrecipitationFree Zones(PFZ)width at grain boundaries under plastic loading decrease by 31.4%and 94.4%respectively.These results indicate plastic loading significantly weakens the anisotropic SRA behavior,owing to numerous uniformly distributed fine T1phases and small IPA values of both T1precipitates size and PFZ width in various loading directions.Compared with those of elastic loadingaged alloys,yield strength of plastic loading-aged alloys shows high strength-ductility because of the combined effect of closely dispersed fine T1precipitates,narrowed PFZ and numerous sheared and rotated T1phases at different locations during tensile process.The uniformly distributed larger Kernel Average Misorientation(KAM)and Schmidt factor values of the plastic loading-aged alloy,as well as the cross-slip generated,also help to enhance the strength and ductility of the alloy. 展开更多

To weaken the basal texture and in-plane anisotropy of magnesium alloy, non-basal slips are pre-enhanced by pre-rolling with a single pass larger strain reduction at elevated temperatures. Then Mg alloy sheets with the thickness of 1 mm are achieved after five passes rolling at 300 ℃. A double peak and disperse basal texture is generated after pre- rolling at higher temperatures when the non-basal slips are more active. So, the texture intensity of pre-rolled samples is reduced. Moreover, the distribution condition of in-grain misorientation axes (a method to analyze the activation of slips) shows that the pyramidal slip is quite active during deformation. After annealing on final rolled sheets, the texture distributions are changed and the intensity of texture reduces obviously due to static recrystallization. In particular, the r-value and in-plane anisotropy of pre-rolled samples are obviously lower than those of sample without pre-rolling. 展开更多

Wire arc additive manufacturing(WAAM)is one of the most promising approaches to manufacturing large and complex metal components owing to its low cost and high efficiency.However,pores and coarse columnar grains caused by thermal accumulation in WAAM significantly decrease the strength and increase the anisotropy,preventing the achievement of both high strength and isotropy.In this study,the strength and anisotropy of AlMg-Sc-Zr alloys were improved by regulating heat input.The results indicated that as the heat input increased from 60 to 99 J/mm,all the components had lower porosity(lower than 0.04%),the size of the Al_(3)(Sc_(1-x),Zr_(x))phases decreased,and the number density increased.The average grain size gradually decreased,and the grain morphologies transformed from coarse equiaxed grain(CEG)+fine equiaxed grain(FEG)to FEG owing to the increase in Al_(3)(Sc_(1-x),Zr_(x))phases with increasing heat input.After heat treatment at 325℃for 6 h,high-density dispersed Al_(3)Sc phases(<10 nm)precipitated.The alloy possessed the highest strength at 79 J/mm,ultimate tensile strength(UTS)of approximately 423±3 MPa,and in-plane anisotropy of approximately 4.3%.At a heat input of 99 J/mm,the in-plane anisotropy decreased to 1.2%and UTS reached 414±5 MPa.The reduction in the CEG prolonged the crack propagation path,which improved the UTS in the vertical direction and reduced the anisotropy.Theoretical calculations indicated that the main strengthening mechanisms were solid solution and precipitation strengthening.This study lays the theoretical foundations for WAAM-processed high-strength and isotropic Al alloy components. 展开更多

As for 45° sample, a large number of equiaxed grains and a few columnar grains with (111) texture can be observed. The sample produced at a 0° orientation demonstrates the highest tensile strength, whereas the 90° sample exhibits the greatest elongation. Conversely, the 45° sample displays the least favorable overall performance. As the tests temperature increased from room temperature to 600℃, the anisotropy rate of ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and ductility between 0° and 45° samples, decreased from 8.98 to 6.96%, 2.36 to 1.28%, 19.93 to 12.23%, as well as between 0° and 90° samples decreased from 4.87 to 4.03%, 11.88 to 7.21% and 14.11 to 6.89%, respectively, because of the recovery of oriented columnar grains. 展开更多

As geological exploration conditions become increasingly complex, meeting the requirements of precise geological exploration necessitates the development of a controlled-source audio magnetotelluric (CSAMT) inversion method that considers anisotropy to improve the effectiveness of inversion accuracy and interpretation accuracy of data. This study is based on the 3D fi nite-diff erence forward modeling of axis anisotropy using the reciprocity theorem to calculate the Jacobian matrix by applying the search method to automatically search for the Lagrange operator. The aim is to establish inversion iteration equations to achieve the axis anisotropic Occam's 3D inversion of tensor CSAMT in data space. Further, we obtain an underground axis anisotropic 3D geoelectric model by inverting the impedance data of tensor CSAMT. Two synthetic data examples show that using the isotropic tensor CSAMT algorithm to directly invert data in anisotropic media can generate false anomalies, leading to incorrect geological interpretations. Meanwhile, the proposed anisotropic inversion algorithm can eff ectively improve the accuracy of data inversion in anisotropic media. The Tan-Lu Fault Zone is a large NNE-trending fault zone that has a substantial effect on the development of eastern China and its earthquake disaster prevention efforts. Aiming at the azimuthally anisotropic structure in the upper crust and seismogenic tectonics in the Hefei segment of this fault, we collected phase velocity dispersion data of fundamental mode Rayleigh waves from ambient noise cross-correlation functions of ~400 temporal seismographs in an area of approximately 80 × 70 km along the fault zone. The period band of the dispersion data was ~0.5–10 s. We inverted for the upper crustal three-dimensional(3-D) shear velocity model with azimuthal anisotropy from the surface to 10 km depth by using a 3-D direct azimuthal anisotropy inversion method. The inversion result shows the spatial distribution characteristics of the tectonic units in the upper crust. Additionally, the deformation of the Tan-Lu Fault Zone and its conjugated fault systems could be inferred from the anisotropy model. In particular, the faults that have remained active from the early and middle Pleistocene control the anisotropic characteristics of the upper crustal structure in this area. The direction of fast axes near the fault zone area in the upper crust is consistent with the strike of the faults, whereas for the region far away from the fault zone, the direction of fast axes is consistent with the direction of the regional principal stress caused by plate movement. Combined with the azimuthal anisotropy models in the deep crust and uppermost mantle from the surface wave and Pn wave, the different anisotropic patterns caused by the Tan-Lu Fault Zone and its conjugated fault system nearby are shown in the upper and lower crust. Furthermore,by using the double-difference method, we relocated the Lujiang earthquake series, which contained 32 earthquakes with a depth shallower than 10 km. Both the Vs model and earthquake relocation results indicate that earthquakes mostly occurred in the vicinity of structural boundaries with fractured media, with high-level development of cracks and small-scale faults jammed between more rigid areas. 展开更多

Three-dimensional printing(3DP)offers valuable insight into the characterization of natural rocks and the verification of theoretical models due to its high reproducibility and accurate replication of complex defects such as cracks and pores.In this study,3DP gypsum samples with different printing directions were subjected to a series of uniaxial compression tests with in situ micro-computed tomography(micro-CT)scanning to quantitatively investigate their mechanical anisotropic properties and damage evolution characteristics.Based on the two-dimensional(2D)CT images obtained at different scanning steps,a novel void ratio variable was derived using the mean value and variance of CT intensity.Additionally,a constitutive model was formulated incorporating the proposed damage variable,utilizing the void ratio variable.The crack evolution and crack morphology of 3DP gypsum samples were obtained and analyzed using the 3D models reconstructed from the CT images.The results indicate that 3DP gypsum samples exhibit mechanical anisotropic characteristics similar to those found in naturally sedimentary rocks.The mechanical anisotropy is attributed to the bedding planes formed between adjacent layers and pillar-like structures along the printing direction formed by CaSO_(4)·2H_(2)O crystals of needle-like morphology.The mean gray intensity of the voids has a positive linear relationship with the threshold value,while the CT variance and void ratio have concave and convex relationships,respectively.The constitutive model can effectively match the stress–strain curves obtained from uniaxial compression experiments.This study provides comprehensive explanations of the failure modes and anisotropic mechanisms of 3DP gypsum samples,which is important for characterizing and understanding the failure mechanism and microstructural evolution of 3DP rocks when modeling natural rock behavior. 展开更多
