This paper aims to tackle the calculation efficiency problem raised in the cavitation-flow simulation of the aviation centrifugal pump due to the fading-away interface resulting from the dissipation of numerics used i...This paper aims to tackle the calculation efficiency problem raised in the cavitation-flow simulation of the aviation centrifugal pump due to the fading-away interface resulting from the dissipation of numerics used in the phase-change control equation for unstructured-grid multiphase flow,and due to the limitation of flow time-step in whole flow regimes,the control equation of vapor–liquid two-phase flow considering cavitation mass transport is established firstly,modifying the momentum equation by introducing the surface tension,and adding the artificial convective flow to the phase equation to solve the numerical dissipation problem.Secondly,in consideration of the local time step principle and based on the multi-dimensional general limiter algorithm with explicit solutions under the OpenFOAM platform,a solution method of steady-state VOF (Volume of Fluid) model considering cavitation two-phase change is constructed,and the feasibility of this method is verified by NACA hydrofoil and NASA flat plate inducer.Finally,based on the platform developed,the cavitation performance of an aviation centrifugal pump inducer is analyzed.The research results show that the error of the calculated cavitation pressure distribution for NACA hydrofoil between the simulation test and the experimental-test is less than 5%,and the maximum error of calculated cavitation number at pump head dropping for NASA high-speed flat plate inducer between the simulation test and the experimental-test is 2.1%.The cavitation area observed in the simulation test is the same as that obtained in the high-speed photography test.Based on the OpenFOAM simulation method,the position of pump head dropping of the fuel centrifugal pump can be accurately captured.The error of the calculated cavitation number at pump head dropping between the simulation test and the experimental test is about 3.7%,showing high calculation accuracy.展开更多
Liquid film cooling as an advanced cooling technology is widely used in space vehicles.Stable operation of liquid film along the rocket combustion inner wall is crucial for thermal protection of rocket engines.The sta...Liquid film cooling as an advanced cooling technology is widely used in space vehicles.Stable operation of liquid film along the rocket combustion inner wall is crucial for thermal protection of rocket engines.The stability of liquid film is mainly determined by the characteristics of interfacial wave,which is rarely investigated right now.How to improve the stability of thin film has become a hot spot.In view of this,an advanced model based on the conventional Volume of Fluid(VOF)model is adopted to investigate the characteristics of interfacial wave in gas-liquid flow by using OpenFOAM,and the mechanism of formation and development of wave is revealed intuitively through numerical study.The effects from gas velocity,surface tension and dynamic viscosity of liquid(three factors)on the wave are studied respectively.It can be found that the gas velocity is critical to the formation and development of wave,and four modes of droplets generation are illustrated in this paper.Besides,a gas vortex near the gas-liquid interface can induce formation of wave easily,so changing the gas vortex state can regulate formation and development of wave.What’s more,the change rules of three factors influencing on the interfacial wave are obtained,and the surface tension has a negative effect on the formation and development of wave only when the surface tension coefficient is above the critical value,whereas the dynamic viscosity has a positive effect in this process.Lastly,the maximum height and maximum slope angle of wave will level off as the gas velocity increases.Meanwhile,the maximum slope angle of wave is usually no more than 38°,no matter what happens to the three factors.展开更多
To improve the heat transfer efficiency of the coolant in lead-based fast reactors,this study optimized the configuration and rotational direction of the spacer wires in fuel assemblies to design a new-pattern fuel as...To improve the heat transfer efficiency of the coolant in lead-based fast reactors,this study optimized the configuration and rotational direction of the spacer wires in fuel assemblies to design a new-pattern fuel assembly.This study conducted detailed comparisons between traditional and new pattern fuel assembly rod bundles utilizing the open-source computational fluid dynamics platform,OpenFOAM.The results indicated that the new design may significantly reduce the pressure drop along the rod bundle,which is beneficial for lowering the pressure drop.Furthermore,this new design improved coolant mixing in the subchannels,which facilitated a more uniform temperature distribution and lower thermal gradients at the assembly outlet.These factors collectively reduced the thermal fatigue and creep in nearby internal components.Overall,the newpattern fuel assembly proposed in this study may have better heat transfer performance,thereby enhancing the Integrated Thermal-Hydraulic Factor by 48.2% compared to the traditional pattern.展开更多
