The dry paste yield was utilized as the evaluation criterion, in conjunction with the actual production conditions. Thin layer chromatography was employed to identify Radix Astragali, Lycii Fructus, Herba Dendrobii, and Rhizoma Polygoni Cuspidati. Ethanol served as the solvent for the determination of ethanol-soluble extractives using the cold immersion method.[Results] The preparation process was conducted as follows: the specified quantity of medicinal materials was combined with water for extraction purposes, performed in two separate stages. In each stage, eight times the amount of water was added. The first extraction lasted for 1.5 h, while the second extraction was completed in 1.0 h. The resulting liquid was then concentrated into a thick paste with a relative density ranging from 1.25 to 1.30 at a temperature of 60 ℃. The thin-layer chromatography analysis of Radix Astragali, Lycii Fructus, Herba Dendrobii, and Rhizoma Polygoni Cuspidati demonstrated distinct spots, effective separation, and the absence of interference from negative samples. Additionally, the ethanol-soluble extractives yielded a minimum of 8.0% in terms of dry weight.[Conclusions] The preparation process for Rougan Huaxian ointment is both stable and feasible. Furthermore, the quality standards established for this preparation are unique and reproducible, thereby facilitating effective quality control.展开更多

Topical eye drop is the most convenient and patient compliant route of drug administration, especially for the treatment of anterior segment diseases. Delivery of drugs to the targeted ocular tissues is restricted by various precorneal, dynamic and static ocular barriers. Also, therapeutic drug levels are not maintained for longer duration in target tissues. In the past two decades, ocular drug delivery research acceleratedly advanced towards developing a novel, safe and patient compliant formulation and drug delivery devices/techniques,which may surpass these barriers and maintain drug levels in tissues. Anterior segment drug delivery advances are witnessed by modulation of conventional topical solutions with permeation and viscosity enhancers. Also,it includes development of conventional topical formulations such as suspensions, emulsions and ointments. Various nanoformulations have also been introduced for anterior segment ocular drug delivery. On the other hand, for posterior ocular delivery, research has been immensely focused towards development of drug releasing devices and nanoformulations for treating chronic vitreo-retinal diseases. These novel devices and/or formulations may help to surpass ocular barriers and associated side effects with conventional topicaldrops. Also, these novel devices and/or formulations are easy to formulate,no/negligibly irritating, possess high precorneal residence time, sustain the drug release, and enhance ocular bioavailability of therapeutics. An update of current research advancement in ocular drug delivery necessitates and helps drug delivery scientists to modulate their think process and develop novel and safe drug delivery strategies. Current review intends to summarize the existing conventional formulations for ocular delivery and their advancements followed by current nanotechnology based formulation developments. Also, recent developments with other ocular drug delivery strategies employing in situ gels, implants, contact lens and microneedles have been discussed.展开更多

It has been confirmed by basic pharmacodynamic experiments that Baimai ointment has some therapeutic effects on stroke. However, the detailed evaluations of Baimai ointment on clinically treating stroke patients for function recovery are still insufficient with little reports. OBJECTIVE: To observe the efficiency and safety of Baimai ointment on alleviating hypermyotonia following cerebral infarction DESIGN: A randomized, parallel and controlled experiment. SETTING: Department of Neurology, Beijing Aerospace General Hospital. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 120 patients with acute front-cycle cerebral infarction were selected from Department of Neurology, Beijing Aerospace General Hospital from July to December 2006 and met the diagnosis criteria modified by Forth National Seminar on Cerebrovascular Disease. The experiment had got confirmed consent from local ethic committee. All 120 patients with cerebral infarction were randomly divided into experimental group (n =80; 32 in the acute phase, 32 in the recovery phase and 16 in the sequela phase) and control group (n =40; 16 in the acute phase, 16 in the recovery phase and 8 in the sequela phase). METHODS: Within 4 weeks after the patients were enrolled in this study, no other traditional Chinese medicines containing similar components were adopted besides routine supporting therapy. The Baimai ointment being consisted of jianghuang, Roudoukou, Gansong, Yangqishi, Gancao, She, shannai, Zanghuixiang, Zangchangpu, Huajiao and dianhua was used by trial group (20 g/ampoule, Tibet Lingzhiqizheng Tibetan Drug Factory; batch number: 050403), 2-3 times per day, the ointment was moderately coated traveling parts of Baimai. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The evaluation of National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), Modified Rankin Scale and Modified Ashworth Scale were performed before administration, 2 and 4 weeks after administration. RESULTS: All 120 patients with acute front-cycle cerebral infarction were involved in the final analysis. ① Evaluation of therapeutic effects: After 4 weeks, the comparison of overall muscular tension and muscular tension in acute phase between the two groups (acute phase, chronic phase and recovery phase) demonstrated that the experimental group improved significantly (Z = - 2.25, - 2.06, P 〈 0.05). After 2 weeks, the change of muscular tension was not significantly different from baseline (P 〉 0.05). Whereas after 4 weeks, the change of muscular tension in acute phase was significantly different from baseline (P 〈 0.05); however, the change of muscular tension in recovery phase and sequelae phase was not significantly different from baseline (P 〉 0.05). After the treatment, the overall NIHSS and disability score of both groups did not change significantly (P 〉 0.05). ② Adverse reaction and side effect: There were two adverse events in experimental groups. One patient underwent petechia, and the symptom disappeared following stopping medication which did not reappear after remedication. The other patient complained of a pain coming from the place where the medication was used, and the symptom went away without treatment. Two cases of adverse events were not significantly correlated with the usage of medication, so both of which could not be confirmed to be adverse reactions. CONCLUSION: Baimai ointment achieves some therapeutic effects on treating hypermyotonia of cerebral infarction patients, especially significantly preventing the hypermyotonia in acute phase with good safety.展开更多

The aim of this review was to determine the importance of M. communis essential oil in the treatment of hemorrhoids. For preparing this manuscript, the information was extracted from different resources. The results of clinical studies showed that M. communis essential oil(lotion or ointment) can significantly improve bleeding, permanent pain, pain during defecation, anal irritation, anal itching and anal heaviness in patients with hemorrhoids types I and II. M. communis was also effective in treating patients who did not respond to current chemical treatments(antihemorrhoids ointment). Further clinical studies should look into designing a suppository form of M. communis essential oil and compare its effect with the lotion and ointment forms.展开更多
文摘We examined the stability of amoxicillin trihydrate from the preparation Augmentin in compounded forms of drugs such as vaginal suppositories and ointments. The quantity of the antibiotic in the preparations studied was determined directly after they had been made and after a lapse of 7 and 14 days. We also carried out comparative examinations of the stability of sodium amoxicillin (Tarommentin) and sodium ampicillin (Ampicillin) in ointments with an addition of a boric acid solution. The examinations confirmed the stability of amoxicillin trihydrate in suppositories and in anhydrous and hydrated ointments. The content of this antibiotic in ointmems with an addition of a boric acid solution decreases slightly. Comparative studies of the stability of sodium amoxicillin and sodium amoxicillin revealed a markedly lower stability of the two antibiotics in comparison to the stability of amoxicillin trihydrate.

文摘Dingzhou eye ointment gained significant popularity from the late Qing dynasty to the Republican era.Its legacy persists through three prominent families:Bai Jingyu(白敬宇),Ma Yinglong(马应龙)and Zhang Qizhu(张齐珠).Each family’s Dingzhou eye ointment is similar, with comparable ingredients, dosages, and usage methods, suggesting a common origin. While many well-established Dingzhou eye ointment brands claim their origins date back to the late Ming dynasty, the origins of its formulation are likely much older. In ancient Chinese medical texts, there were proto-formulations of similar eye ointments recorded during the Jin and Yuan dynasties, with comparable external and standardized eye medicine formulations appearing in the Ming and Qing dynasties.By the late Qing dynasty,Dingzhou eye ointment had become a popular mainstream topical eye treatment in traditional Chinese medicine. From a broader geographically perspective, the composition aligns with that of similar treatments used in Greco-Roman medicine, which combined minerals such as calamine with aromatic ingredients to create eye medicines. The principles behind the composition of Dingzhou eye ointment are in accord with the concept of the four humours in Arabian medicine. It is possible that the Hui ethnic group was responsible for the introduction of Dingzhou eye ointment to China, indicating cultural exchange between Chinese and foreign medicine practices.

文摘[Objectives] To establish the preparation process and quality standard of Rougan Huaxian ointment.[Methods] The L_(9)(3^(4)) orthogonal test was employed to optimize the preparation process by considering the multiplication of water addition, extraction time, and extraction frequency as influencing factors. Furthermore, the quality standards established for this preparation are unique and reproducible, thereby facilitating effective quality control.

文摘The major challenge faced by today's pharmacologist and formulation scientist is ocular drug delivery. Also, recent developments with other ocular drug delivery strategies employing in situ gels, implants, contact lens and microneedles have been discussed.

CONCLUSION: Baimai ointment achieves some therapeutic effects on treating hypermyotonia of cerebral infarction patients, especially significantly preventing the hypermyotonia in acute phase with good safety.
文摘Myrtus communis is an important plant in the treatment of many different diseases. Further clinical studies should look into designing a suppository form of M. communis essential oil and compare its effect with the lotion and ointment forms.
