Nutritional Knowledge and Behavior of Professional Athletes in Khorramabad

Today it is proved that the lack of adequate nutritional knowledge leads to problems such as obesity, overweight and increased cardiovascular diseases. However, many obstacles such as poor financial support, lack of time and poor nutritional knowledge can influence achievement of optimal nutrition which is proportional to the level of the athlete's physical activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of nutritional knowledge and dietary behavior of athletes in Khorramabad in 2013. Professional athletes of Khorramabad, Iran, with more than one year of regular exercise and at least one course participating in national championships competitions were studied in this cross-sectional, descriptive-analytic study. The samples included 247 athletes aged 17-29 years. Their nutritional knowledge and behavior were measured by the nutritional knowledge and behavior inventory. Results: The results showed a significant difference in nutritional knowledge of athletes by gender and educational level; female athletes have higher nutritional knowledge than male athletes. A gender-dependent difference was found in nutritional behavior; despite their higher nutritional knowledge, female athletes have weaker nutritional behavior than male athletes. However, no significant correlation was found between BMI and nutritional knowledge and behavior of the athletes. Moreover, findings showed that nutritional knowledge and behavior could be significantly different in various sports. 展开更多

Restdts showed that enhanced UV-B radiation significantly inhibited ingesting of the rotifer B. urceus when it was fed with 5 species of micro-algae (p〈0.05). The ingesting selectivity rate varied with the UV-B radiation enhancement when it was fed with 5 species micro-algal mixture. Results indicated that the enhanced UV-B radiation could affect ingesting and nutritional selectivity of B. urceus. 展开更多

Dates are considered as the most important food in the south-west oases of Algeria. The Date Palm (Phoenix dactylifera) has known some kind of specificity in its different life phases, compared to all the rest of oases cultivate plants. It is thanks to that person could settle down. A study within a ministerial research project about the date palm variety in the previous areas has shown that there are 400 spices of dates. Thanks to this diversification types, members of this community were able to acquire experience in the field of the uses of date in their nutritional behaviour. Harvest begins from precocious summer's soft date variety in June, as in the late autumn variety in October. In addition, there are different type of the date: wet, semi-wet and dry date. For each variety, there is a particular method of its use. It is an example of sustainable food, is the one present in all oasis occasions. The aim of the current study was to examine the different methods of nutritional ate uses, in Touat, Gourara and Tidikelt, by its inhabitants, and to show the local skills sustained across the generations. 展开更多

National Survey on Nutrition Knowledge Assessment Among Junior High School Students — 31 PLADs, China, 2023–2024

Introduction:Nutrition knowledge(NK)is a key modifiable factor influencing the dietary behavior and nutritional status of children.Currently,nationally representative data assessing NK among Chinese junior high school students are unavailable.This study aimed to assess NK levels using recent,nationally representative data from China.Methods:A multistage stratified random cluster sampling method was used to select 28,629 junior high school students from 195 survey sites across 31 provincial-level administrative divisions in China.Data were collected using a standardized questionnaire developed using rigorous scientific procedures.NK awareness rates were described as weighted prevalence rates with 95%confidence intervals(CIs).Subgroup comparisons were performed using the Rao–Scott chisquare test.Results:The overall NK awareness rate among Chinese junior high school students was 40.0%(95%CI:36.5%–43.5%).The rates for the five dimensions,dietary recommendations,nutrient content of foods,food and health,food choices,and food safety,were 20.1%,46.2%,65.3%,65.2%,and 65.2%,respectively.The analysis revealed significant variations in overall and dimension-specific awareness rates across groups.Boys,students from rural and western regions,and students from families with lower socioeconomic status had poorer NK levels than their counterparts.Among the 10 knowledge points with the lowest correct rates,seven belonged to dietary recommendations,two to food safety,and one to food and health.Conclusion:NK awareness rates among junior high school students require improvement,especially regarding dietary recommendations,which remain a key component of students’nutrition education.Boys,students from rural and western regions,and students from families with lower socioeconomic status should be the key populations for NK dissemination in the future. 展开更多
