In this paper, we present an accurate and robust method for estimating differential quantities from unorganized point cloud. The principal curvatures and principal directions at each point are computed with the help of partial derivatives of the unit normal vector at that point, where the normal derivatives are estimated by fitting a linear function to each component of the normal vectors in a neighborhood. This method takes into account the normal information of all neighboring points and computes curvatures directly from the variation of unit normal vectors, which improves the accuracy and robustness of curvature estimation on irregular sampled noisy data. The main advantage of our approach is that the estimation of curvatures at a point does not rely on the accuracy of the normal vector at that point, and the normal vectors can be refined in the process of curvature estimation. Compared with the state of the art methods for estimating curvatures and Darboux frames on both synthetic and real point clouds, the approach is shown to be more accurate and robust for noisy and unorganized point cloud data.展开更多

The potential of second-order calibration method was validated for the quantification of two effective ingredients of Schisandra chinensis in human plasma using spectrofluorimetry. The results obtained in the present study demonstrate the advantages of this strategy for multi-target determination in complex matrices. Although the spectra of the analytes are similar and a large number of interferences also exist, second-order calibration method could predict the accurate concentrations together with reasonable resolution of spectral profiles for analytes of interest owing to its ‘second-order advantage’. Moreover, the method presented in this work allows one to simply experimental procedure as well as reduces the use of harmful chemical solvents.展开更多

Specific to X-band sea clutter, the statistical characteristics of the complex correlation, particularly the phase characteristics which are closely related to the phase difference of the sea clutter and the Doppler properties, are analyzed in detail based on the experimental data, recorded by the Mc Master University IPIX radar in 1993. That the phase term of the complex correlation presents linear change means that there exists the linearity of phase differences between different time intervals in the X-band sea clutter. This investigation explores the regularities about the effect of wind on the complex correlation with similar patterns for different polarization modes. The regularities indicate that the wind direction can be inferred from the distribution pattern of the complex correlation. Moreover, a model describing the relationships between the statistics of the complex correlation and wind parameters is proposed. The application for target detection based on the differences of characteristics of complex correlations between the sea clutter and the target are also investigated and the proposed features have been confirmed. The principle of the method is fundamental for broader future applications.展开更多

A gradient of the inter-foil distance is introduced by using spacers with different heights at the two ends of the foil gap. While the cluster size and the intrinsic spatial resolution show insignificant dependence on the inter-foil distance, the gain exhibits an approximately linear dependence on the inter-foil distance. From the slope, a quantitative relationship between the change of the inter-foil distance and the change of the gain is derived, which can be used as a method to evaluate the non-uniformity of the foil gap in the application of large-area GEM detectors.展开更多

The output property of optical bistability under different system parameters is analyzed, which determines the performance of the stochastic resonance. Through optimizing these parameters, the noise-hidden signal is extracted via stochastic resonance, in which the maximum cross-correlation gain higher than nine is obtained. The positive magnetic electroluminescence(MEL) and magnetic conductance(MC) are observed in the samples, reaching 4.35% and 1.67% under the field of 42 m T at 50 K, respectively, and the MEL and MC traces can be fitted to non-Lorentzian line shapes. The MEL varies as a function of the Co thickness and reaches the optimal value at 10 nm. The MEL and MC dependence on voltage and temperature is also investigated. The electron-hole pair model and the spin-polarized injection mechanism are used to understand the experimental results.展开更多
