Associations of nontraditional lipoprotein ratios with future cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

BACKGROUND Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)face a heightened risk of future cardiovascular events.It is therefore important to stratify these patients according to their future cardiovascular event risk to allow early intervention and improve prognosis.Recent proposals have indicated that nontraditional lipoprotein ratios may be superior predictors of cardiovascular events compared to traditional lipid parameters.However,further evidence is required for widespread clinical ap-plication.AIM To elucidate the associations of nontraditional lipoprotein ratios with future cardiovascular events in patients with T2DM.METHODS This study performed post-hoc analysis of data obtained during a clinical trial involving 10182 participants.To ascertain the correlations between nontraditional lipoprotein ratios and future cardiovascular events,including major adverse cardiovascular events(MACEs)and congestive heart failure(CHF).We employed univariable and multivariable-adjusted Cox proportional hazards regression models.Potential dose-response relationships and threshold values were explored by conducting restricted cubic spline analyses and two-piecewise linear regression models.Possible relevant interactions influencing independent relationships were tested using subgroup and interaction analyses.RESULTS After adjustment for confounding factors,all nontraditional lipoprotein ratios studied were strongly associated with MACE risk in patients with T2DM.In comparison with patients in the lowest quartile,the hazard ratios(95%confidence intervals)of those in the highest quartile were 1.50(1.29-1.73),1.51(1.30-1.74),1.50(1.29-1.73),and 1.30(1.12-1.50)for total cholesterol/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol/HDL-C,non-HDL-C/HDL-C,and remnant cholesterol/HDL-C,respectively.Similar findings were noted for CHF.Dose-response relationships between nontraditional lipoprotein ratios and MACE were observed,with threshold values of 7.29,6.29,and 2.15 for total cholesterol/HDL-C,non-HDL-C/HDL-C,and remnant cholesterol/HDL-C,respectively.However,no notable dose-response relationships were detected between nontraditional lipoprotein ratios and CHF.CONCLUSION Elevated nontraditional lipoprotein ratios may independently predict the risk of MACE and CHF in patients with T2DM. 展开更多

The aerospace community widely uses difficult-to-cut materials,such as titanium alloys,high-temperature alloys,metal/ceramic/polymer matrix composites,hard and brittle materials,and geometrically complex components,such as thin-walled structures,microchannels,and complex surfaces.Mechanical machining is the main material removal process for the vast majority of aerospace components.However,many problems exist,including severe and rapid tool wear,low machining efficiency,and poor surface integrity.Nontraditional energy-assisted mechanical machining is a hybrid process that uses nontraditional energies(vibration,laser,electricity,etc)to improve the machinability of local materials and decrease the burden of mechanical machining.This provides a feasible and promising method to improve the material removal rate and surface quality,reduce process forces,and prolong tool life.However,systematic reviews of this technology are lacking with respect to the current research status and development direction.This paper reviews the recent progress in the nontraditional energy-assisted mechanical machining of difficult-to-cut materials and components in the aerospace community.In addition,this paper focuses on the processing principles,material responses under nontraditional energy,resultant forces and temperatures,material removal mechanisms,and applications of these processes,including vibration-,laser-,electric-,magnetic-,chemical-,advanced coolant-,and hybrid nontraditional energy-assisted mechanical machining.Finally,a comprehensive summary of the principles,advantages,and limitations of each hybrid process is provided,and future perspectives on forward design,device development,and sustainability of nontraditional energy-assisted mechanical machining processes are discussed. 展开更多

New changes are taking place in nontraditional security fields,characterized by the increase in confrontation and conflict,the intensification of threats,and diversification.The interconnectivity,unpredictability,and transmissibility of nontraditional security threats are unprecedented.The emergence and even perpetuation of the above-mentioned new features are both attributed to objective factors,such as social development,ideological shifts,and scientific and technological advancement,and are closely related to the moves of certain major countries to instigate the so-called remarkable power competition recklessly and boost geopolitical contest.The rapid resurgence of securitization in global politics is hidden behind the rise of nontraditional security threats.Nontraditional security issues have generally entered a dynamic phase,which exerts an impact on the international security environment and the global landscape.A growing number of countries have emphasized on the realistic and urgent threat of nontraditional security challenges to their national security.These countries have tended to achieve traditional security goals via nontraditional means and tackle nontraditional security challenges with traditional mindsets.Thus,the boundary between traditional and nontraditional security issues is increasingly blurred.The methodology that dichotomizes traditional and nontraditional security issues may no longer be useful during assessments of major threats confronting national security.The connotations of peace and war have significantly changed in the new era.Distinguishing"hot"security issues from"cold"ones or traditional security issues from nontraditional ones is difficult.Such distinction requires consideration of all security issues when recognizing and addressing national security challenges.Thus,these increasingly complex security issues must be analyzed within a wide context of the oncein-a-century changes occurring worldwide and China should pursue a holistic approach to national security as a fundamental principle in response to various threats. 展开更多

Evaluation of the exploitation of nontraditional water resources—Case study of Yantian District in Shenzhen

Water shortage has become a major obstacle to its further economic progress. Consequently, rational exploitation of nontraditional water resources(NWR)has been naturally adopted to increase local available water volume. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the exploitation of two kinds of NWR, namely wastewater reuse and seawater utilization, in Yantian District, and assess the contribution of each mode to deal with the water crisis. Two different nontraditional water supply systems respectively based on the reclaimed water and sea water were presented, and the effects of each system were evaluated in terms of technology, economy and environment. The result shows that both wastewater reclamation and reuse (WRR) and direct utilization of seawater (DUS) are of great importance to cope with the tight water resource situation in the district. The data indicate that the fresh water saved by WRR system and DUS system is 29 and 17 million m3/a respectively. Moreover, the BOD, COD, NH3-N and T-P reduced by the WRR system are 870, 2900, 725 and 87 t/a, respectively. Considering the integrated effectiveness, the development of WRR system, which is of specific significance to exploiting new water resource and save natural fresh water supplied from distant water diversion project, is the preferred methods used to solve the water shortage problem in Yantian District and recover the water environment as well as maintain the sustainable development of the city zone. 展开更多

Bridging the Gap Between Traditional and Nontraditional Luminogens With Strong Non-Aromatic Through-Bond Conjugation and Through-Space Conjugation

The development of nontraditional luminogens(NTLs)with superior photoluminescence(PL)properties is of great scientific and practical significance and has drawn rapidly growing interest in recent years.An extremely important but unresolved question is that if there are any distinct differences in the structures and PL mechanisms between traditional luminogens(TLs)and NTLs.In this work,four dihydropyridine derivatives with strong non-aromatic through-bond conjugation(TBC)were designed and synthesized,and the influence of strong non-aromatic TBC and through-space conjugation(TSC)effects on their PL behaviors was studied.These compounds in solutions show significant concentration-dependent emission(CDE)and excitation-dependent emission(EDE),which are typical PL behaviors of NTLs.In solid state,the compounds show wide excitation spectra while narrow emission spectra,with high quantum yields up to 57.4%,but they do not show significant EDE,similar to TLs.And very impressively,two kinds of crystals also exhibit optical waveguide property,which is the first report in NTLs.The UV–vis spectra,crystal structures,and theoretical calculations prove the presence of large non-aromatic TBC interactions in these NTLs,and strong non-aromatic TSC can be formed among the molecules that are in a planar conformation and stacked into layers through intermolecular hydrogen bonding and π…π interactions.The combined effect of strong non-aromatic TBC and TSC endows the compounds unique PL behaviors that are between those of TLs and NTLs,thus bridging the gap between TLs and NTLs. 展开更多

Photoluminescence(PL)mechanisms of nontraditional luminogens(NTLs)have attracted great interest,and they are generally explained with intra/intermolecular through-space conjugation(TSC)of nonconventional chromophores.Here a new concept of nonaromatic through-bond conjugation(TBC)is proposed and it is proved that it plays an important role in the PL of NTLs.The PL behaviors of the three respective isomers of cyclohexanedione and gemdimethyl-1,3-cyclohexanedione were studied and correlated with their chemical and aggregate structures.These compounds show differentfluorescence emissions as well as dif-ferent concentration,excitation and solvent-dependent emissions.The compounds which undergo keto-enol tautomerism and hence with a conjugated ketone-enol structure(i.e.,nonaromatic TBC)show more red-shifted emissions.TBC effect reduces the energy gaps and facilitates the formation of stronger TSC in the aggre-gate state.The compounds in the ketone-enol form are also prone to occur excited state intra/intermolecular proton transfer(ESIPT).The cooperative effect of nonaro-matic TBC and TSC determines the PL behaviors of NTLs.This work provides a novel understanding of the PL mechanisms of NTLs and is of great importance for directing the design and synthesis of novel NTLs. 展开更多

This paper highlights the current developments, new trends, and technological advances of key factors of ECM, such as electrochemical dissolution characteristics of novel difficult to cut materials which are often used in aero-engine, numerical simulation of electrochemical process, design for the complex profile and structure of cathode tool, flow field simulation and design for uniform electrolyte flow, and innovation of electrochemical machining or hybrid methods which reflect the state of the art in academic and industrial research on electrochemical machining in aero-engine manufacturing. 展开更多

A new method - adaptable location system (ATLS) is presented in this paper. ATLS consists of an array of pins which are controlled manually or automatically by an actuator. The actuation force comes from a shape memory alloy (SMA). Material properties of filler are very important for RFPE. The experiment has shown that machining error can be reduced by using conservative cutting parameters. Based on finite element analysis, the relationship between the deformation of the workpiece, the filler and the machining parameters has been achieved. A new approach, partial cage with active side wall (PCASW), allows machine tools to easily access any feature of the workpiece from different directions. It is convenient for every new setup. 展开更多

Space-time disease cluster detection assists in conducting disease surveillance and implementing control strategies.The state-of-the-art method for this kind of problem is the Space-time Scan Statistics(SaTScan)which has limitations for non-traditional/non-clinical data sources due to its parametric model assumptions such as Poisson orGaussian counts.Addressing this problem,an Eigenspace-based method called Multi-EigenSpot has recently been proposed as a nonparametric solution.However,it is based on the population counts data which are not always available in the least developed countries.In addition,the population counts are difficult to approximate for some surveillance data such as emergency department visits and over-the-counter drug sales,where the catchment area for each hospital/pharmacy is undefined.We extend the population-based Multi-EigenSpot method to approximate the potential disease clusters from the observed/reported disease counts only with no need for the population counts.The proposed adaptation uses an estimator of expected disease count that does not depend on the population counts.The proposed method was evaluated on the real-world dataset and the results were compared with the population-based methods:Multi-EigenSpot and SaTScan.The result shows that the proposed adaptation is effective in approximating the important outputs of the population-based methods. 展开更多

A new process and technology of rapid prototyping for a μ-micro motor is presented as a nontraditional machining and an advanced manufacturing technology (AMT) to be realized by using masks, including the operation principle of the motor, structure design, technique, driven circuit, and quality examination with Raman spectrum. The μ-micro motor is fabricated by the micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) process, the structure design must be considered to fabricate or assembly the parts during machining the motor in the meantime. The research proved that integration of IC (integrated circuit) process and MEMS using masks is effective in obtaining the rapid prototyping manufacturing of the μ-micro motor. With the mature technique to fabricate the motor, there are advantages to produce the motor in short time and with lower cost than before. The motor is a common power source of micro machines in military and civilian applications, for example, applied to micro robot, micro bio medicine, and micro machine. The size of the motor is 190 μm in maximum diameter by 125 μm in height that is bulk machined in array with the number of hundreds of micro motors on a substrate. 展开更多
