The nonlinear refractive index and absorption coefficient of single\|shell semiconductor carbon nanotubes(CN s ) are calculated based on the two\|band approximation and Genkin\|Mednis approach. The results of nonlinear refractive index and absorption coefficient reach the order of 10 -8 and 10 -4 cm 2\5W -1 separately, which indicates that CN s have wonderful nonlinear optical properties. Taking into account the temperature effect and overlapping of σ and π orbits, the effect of relaxation term and chiral angle is discussed. The results show that the smaller the relaxation term, the larger the nonlinear absorption coefficient and refractive index. At the same time, CN s with different chiral angles have different results due to their different energy gap. 展开更多

The paper presents a finite volume numerical method universally applicable for solving both linear and nonlinear aeroacoustics problems on arbitrary unstructured meshes. It is based on the vertexcentered multi-parameter scheme offering up to the 6th accuracy order achieved on the Cartesian meshes. An adaptive dissipation is added for the numerical treatment of possible discontinuities. The scheme properties are studied on a series of test cases, its efficiency is demonstrated at simulating the noise suppression in resonance-type liners. 展开更多

By using a local approximation based on patches of finite elements to treat the capacity term qi(u), decomposition of the coefficient matrix is realized, by using alternating direction, the multi-dimensional problem is reduced to a family of single space variable problems, calculation work is simplified; by using finite element method, high accuracy for space variant is kept; by. using inductive hypothesis reasoning, the difficulty coming from the nonlinearity of the coefficients and boundary conditions is treated; by introducing Ritz-Volterra projection, the difficulty coming from the memory term is solved. Finally, by using various techniques for priori estimate for differential equations, the unique resolvability and convergence properties for both FE and ADFE schemes are rigorously demonstrated, and optimal H-1 and L-2 norm space estimates and O((Deltat)(2)) estimate for time variant are obtained. 展开更多

In Fourier transform profilometry (FTP), we must restrain spectrum overlapping caused by the nonlinearity of the charge coupled device (CCD) and increase the measurement accuracy of the object shape. Firstly, the causes of producing higher-order spectrum components and inducing spectrum overlapping are analysed theoretically, and a simple physical ex- planation and analytical deduction are given. Secondly, aiming to suppress spectrum overlapping and improve measurement accuracy, the influence of spatial carrier frequency of projection grating on them is analysed. A method of increasing the spatial carrier frequency of projection grating to restrain or reduce the spectrum overlapping significantly is proposed. We then analyze the mechanism of how the spectrum overlapping is reduced. Finally, the simulation results and experimental measurements verify the correction of the proposed theory and method. 展开更多

It was found that the third harmonic susceptibility of polyaniline strongly depends on the delocalization of the electrons. The refractive indices n ( λ =589 nm) of PANI-HCl and PANI-H 3PO 4 are calculated by use of three common methods (the Lorentz-Lorentz theoretical model, the Gladstone-Dale group contribution and the Vogel group correlation) based on group contributions to molar refraction. The calculated n values are varied from 1.31 to 1.42 for PANI-HCl and 1.36 to 1.45 for PANI-H 3PO 4. 展开更多

In the framework of effective mass approximation, we theoretically investigate the electronic structure of the Si δ-doped InAIN/GaN single quantum well by solving numerically the coupled equations Schrodinger-Poisson self-consistently. The linear, nonlinear optical absorption coefficients and relative refractive index changes are calculated as functions of the doping concentration and its thickness. The obtained results show that the position and the amplitude of the linear and total optical absorption coefficients and the refractive index changes can be modified by varying the doping concentration and its thickness. In addition, it is found that the maximum of the optical absorption can be red-shifted or blue-shifted by varying the doping concentration. The obtained results are important for the design of various electronic components such as high-power FETs and infrared photonic devices. 展开更多

An experimental study of the nonlinear changes in refractive index and transmission coefficient of single-crystal ZnSe:Fe2+, fabricated through the Fe-diffusion method, at long-pulse (~300 ns), sub-mJ, 2.94-mm Z-scan probing is reported. As well, a theoretical model based on the generalized Avizonis-Grotbeck equations is developed and applied for straightforward fitting of the open- and closed-aperture Z-scans, obtained for ZnSe:Fe2+ with different Fe2+ centers concentrations. The modeling results reveal that the contributions in the absorption and refractive index nonlinearities of ZnSe:Fe2+ are “common” resonant-absorption saturation (the minor part) and pulse-induced heating of the samples (the major part), which are strongly dependent on Fe2+ concentrations. Large values of the index change (>~10-3) and partial resonant-absorption bleaching (limited by ~50%), both produced via the thermal effect mainly, are the features of the ZnSe:Fe2+ samples inherent to this type of excitation. 展开更多

The experiment results showed that the samples have large and negative refractive index nonlinear refraction coefficient. Purpose: The thrust of this paper is to present a method for improving the accuracy of automatic indexing of Chinese-English mixed documents.Design/methodology/approach: Based on the inherent characteristics of Chinese-English mixed texts and the cybernetics theory,we proposed an integrated control method for indexing documents. It consists of 'feed-forward control','in-progress control' and 'feed-back control',aiming at improving the accuracy of automatic indexing of Chinese-English mixed documents. An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of our proposed method.Findings: This method distinguishes Chinese and English documents in grammatical structures and word formation rules. Through the implementation of this method in the three phases of automatic indexing for the Chinese-English mixed documents,the results were encouraging. The precision increased from 88.54% to 97.10% and recall improved from97.37% to 99.47%.Research limitations: The indexing method is relatively complicated and the whole indexing process requires substantial human intervention. Due to pattern matching based on a bruteforce(BF) approach,the indexing efficiency has been reduced to some extent.Practical implications: The research is of both theoretical significance and practical value in improving the accuracy of automatic indexing of multilingual documents(not confined to Chinese-English mixed documents). The proposed method will benefit not only the indexing of life science documents but also the indexing of documents in other subject areas.Originality/value: So far,few studies have been published about the method for increasing the accuracy of multilingual automatic indexing. Study on the Effect of Spot Size and Non-Linearity on PSD Positioning Accuracy

Position-sensitive detector(PSD)is widely used in precision measurement fields such as flatness detection,auto-collimator systems,and degrees of freedom testing.However,due to factors such as uneven surface resistance and differences in electrode structures,the nonlinearity of PSD becomes increasingly severe as the photosensitive surface moves from the center toward the edges of the four electrodes.To address this issue,a PSD nonlinearity correction algorithm is proposed.The algorithm utilizes the particle swarm optimization(PSO)algorithm to determine the optimal weights and thresholds,providing better initial parameters for the back propagation(BP)neural network.The BP neural network then iterates continuously until the error conditions are met,completing the correction process.Furthermore,a PSD nonlinearity correction system was developed,and the influence of different spot sizes on PSD positioning accuracy was simulated based on the current equation under the Gaussian spot model.This validated the robustness of the correction algorithm under varying spot sizes.The results demonstrate that the overall optimized error is reduced by 84.51%,and for spot sizes smaller than 1 mm,the error reduction exceeds 93.89%.This method not only meets the measurement accuracy requirements but also extends the measurement range of PSD. 展开更多

The nonlinear optical properties of a phosphate vitreous system [(ZnO)x-(MgO)30-x-(P2O5)70], where x=8, 10, 15, 18, and 20 mol% synthesized through the melt-quenching technique have been investigated by using the Z-scan technique. In the experiment, a continuous-wave laser with a wavelength of 405 nm was utilized to determine the sign and value of the nonlinear refractive (NLR) index and the absorption coefficient with closed and opened apertures of the Z-scan setup. The NLR index was found to increase with the ZnO concentration in the glass samples by an order of 10-10 cm2·W-1. The real and imaginary parts of the third-order nonlinear susceptibility were calculated by referring to the NLR index (n2) and absorption coefficient (β) of the samples. The value of the third-order nonlinear susceptibility was presented by nonlinear refractive or absorptive behavior of phosphate glasses for proper utilization in nonlinear optical devices. Based on the measurement, the positive sign of the NLR index shows a self-focusing phenomenon. The figures of merit for each sample were calculated to judge the potential of phosphate glasses for application in optical switching. 展开更多

Thermal Nonlinearity of Functionalized Graphene Enhanced by Gold Nanorods

The nonlinearity of functionalized and nonfunctionlaized graphene as well as gold nanorods were investigated using the Z-scan system with an Ar+ laser beam tuned at a wavelength of 514 nm in a CW (continuous wave) regime that was in resonance with AuNRs (gold nanorods). Z-scan experimental study indicated that functionalized graphene had a negative nonlinear refraction with self-defocusing performance. The result concluded that gold nanorods (average length was 36 ± 3 nm, and the average diameter was 12 ± 2 nm) enhance the thermal nonlinear properties of graphene oxide materials. Gold nanorods were proved to enhance the nonlinear absorption by 50%, and there was a large enhancement on the thermal nonlinear refraction and the thermo-optical coefficient (dn/dT). It was observed that the AuFG (functionalized graphene film with gold nanorods) presented a large thermal nonlinear refraction. The value of the nonlinear refraction (nl') of FG and AuFG samples was shifted from -0.533 x 10.7 cm2/W to -2.92 x 10-7 cm2/W. There was a large enhancement in thermal refraction value that was about five factors larger than the nonlinear refraction of the host material (FG) and much larger (4 orders of magnitude) than that for AuNRs. 展开更多

The previous sensitivity analysis researches are not accurate enough and also have the limited reference value, because those mathematical models are relatively simple and the change of the load and the initial displacement changes of the piston are ignored, even experiment verification is not conducted. Therefore, in view of deficiencies above, a nonlinear mathematical model is established in this paper, including dynamic characteristics of servo valve, nonlinear characteristics of pressure-flow, initial displacement of servo cylinder piston and friction nonlinearity. The transfer function block diagram is built for the hydraulic drive unit closed loop position control, as well as the state equations. Through deriving the time-varying coefficient items matrix and time-varying free items matrix of sensitivity equations respectively, the expression of sensitivity equations based on the nonlinear mathematical model are obtained. According to structure parameters of hydraulic drive unit, working parameters, fluid transmission characteristics and measured friction-velocity curves, the simulation analysis of hydraulic drive unit is completed on the MATLAB/Simulink simulation platform with the displacement step 2 mm, 5 mm and 10 mm, respectively. The simulation results indicate that the developed nonlinear mathematical model is sufficient by comparing the characteristic curves of experimental step response and simulation step response under different constant load. Then, the sensitivity function time-history curves of seventeen parameters are obtained, basing on each state vector time-history curve of step response characteristic. The maximum value of displacement variation percentage and the sum of displacement variation absolute values in the sampling time are both taken as sensitivity indexes. The sensitivity indexes values above are calculated and shown visually in histograms under different working conditions, and change rules are analyzed. Then the sensitivity indexes values of four measurable parameters, such as supply pressure, proportional gain, initial position of servo cylinder piston and load force, are verified experimentally on test platform of hydraulic drive unit, and the experimental research shows that the sensitivity analysis results obtained through simulation are approximate to the test results. This research indicates each parameter sensitivity characteristics of hydraulic drive unit, the performance-affected main parameters and secondary parameters are got under different working conditions, which will provide the theoretical foundation for the control compensation and structure optimization of hydraulic drive unit. 展开更多

Optimal design theory for linear tuned mass dampers (TMD) has been thoroughly investigated, but is still under development for nonlinear TMDs. In this paper, optimization procedures in the time domain are proposed for design of a TMD with nonlinear viscous damping. A dynamic analysis of a structure implemented with a nonlinear TMD is conducted first. Optimum design parameters for the nonlinear TMD are searched using an optimization method to minimize the performance index. The feasibility of the proposed optimization method is illustrated numerically by using the Taipei 101 structure implemented with TMD. The sensitivity analysis shows that the performance index is less sensitive to the damping coefficient than to the frequency ratio. Time history analysis is conducted using the Taipei 101 structure implemented with different TMDs under wind excitation. For both linear and nonlinear TMDs, the comfort requirements for building occupants are satisfied as long as the TMD is properly designed. It was found that as the damping exponent increases, the relative displacement of the TMD decreases but the damping force increases. 展开更多

In this paper, the design problem of satisfaction output feedback controls for stochastic nonlinear systems in strict feedback form under long-term tracking risk-sensitive index is investigated. The index function adopted here is of quadratic form usually encountered in practice, rather than of quartic one used to beg the essential difficulty on controller design and performance analysis of the closed-loop systems. For any given risk-sensitive parameter and desired index value, by using the integrator backstepping method, an output feedback control is constructively designed so that the closed-loop system is bounded in probability and the risk-sensitive index is upper bounded by the desired value. 展开更多
