Evaluation on Non-use Value of Dianchi Lake Wetland Using CVM

[Objective] This study was to analyze the personal Willingness to Pay (WI-P) on the non-use value of Dianchi lake wetland and the influential factors. [Method] Questionnaire was designed according to the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) to investigate people of different occupations at different ages, based on which the evaluation on non-use value of Dianchi lake wetland was carried out. And the relationship between WTP and social characteristics were analyzed by using non- parametric estimation. [Result] The average WTP on Dianchi lake wetland is 150.03- 217.66 yuan per person every year, and the total WTP is 626-909 million yuan ev- ery year. Age, education and residence of the respondents have remarkable influ- ence on the VVTP. The influence of education level and residence on option value is significant; bequest value is significantly correlated with age; while there is no significant relationship between existence value and social characteristics. [Conclusion] The evaluation on the non-use value of Dianchi lake wetland is important for the scientific development and utilization of wetland resources. 展开更多

By the contingent value method, we studied the non-use value of wetland ecosystem service of Hongxing National Nature Reserve (HNNR) in Heilongjiang Pro- vince, northeast China. The proportion of respondents willing to pay (WTP) for protection of HNNR was 63 %. The WTP ratio was affected by geographical area, contact nature, personal preferences, and familiar degree of the respondents. The WTP value was affected by age, education level and career of the respondents. The mainly reasons for people rejecting to pay for protecting HNNR were "I am not familiar to HNNR" and "I had no capacity for additional spending because of low income". Weighted average individual WTP value was CNY 59.26 Yuan ind.^-1 year^-1 for all the respondents with WTP. The total non-use ecosystem service value of HNNR was CNY 1430 million Yuan in 2013. The heritage value was highest followed by existence value and option value. From the high ecosystem service value in HNNR, it is very important to construct nature reserve for protecting natural ecosystems and human sustainable use of natural resources. 展开更多

Hechuan wetland is located in the mid-Yellow River and at the intersection of Shaanxi, Shanxi and Henan provinces in China. It is the largest hot spring lake wetland in the Yellow River basin and the birthplace of Guanju, a famous poem in theBook of Songs. Based on field investigations and questionnaires, we valued Hechuan Wetland ecosystem services, considering use values and non-use values. The annual use value of Hechuan Wetland ecosystem services is 79.236 bilion CNY. The contingent valuation method was applied to value the annual non-use value, which is 6.27 bilion CNY. We examined how the historical and cultural value of theBook of Songs affected respondents’ willingness to pay by establishing a control group. Results suggest that historical and cultural value does have a strong inlfuence on wilingness to pay. 展开更多

Understanding Why People Change Their Technology Use in Protests: User Study on Ebonyi State Mobile Telecommunication Subscribers Experiences

The rise in consumers complains against their service/tech providers has empowered government of various nations to set up Consumer Complaint Commissions. Some corporate organizations who wish to handle the complaints of their customers usually set up an in-house/internal customer care centres, a platform through which they attend to their customers’ needs. This research therefore is interested in exploring the reasons for user-protests among the mobile telecommunication subscribers in Ebonyi State, Nigeria against their network service providers. To arrive at this, we designed a research questionnaire to capture the experiences of the subscribers of the 4 major mobile telecommunication network service provider companies operating in the state. The participants were recruited through physical administration of research instrument and social media such as facebook, whatsapp and email platforms with a total of 72 participants feedbacks received. The users responses on the various issues raised on our questionnaire were thematically analyzed and represented using adequate data presentation tools. Our results proved that there are growing numbers of disgruntled customers among subscribers of the various network providers. From our survey, we gathered that 81.90% of the respondents have engaged in protest use at one point or the other against their service providers with MTN network topping the list with 36.50%, followed by GLO network 27%, Airtel network 23.80% and 9 Mobile 12.70%. Finally, we proposed a design prototype named “<strong><em>Komplain</em></strong>” that will serve as rallying system for the protest users to use and prosecute their actions. [Objective]The study aimed at assessing the whole value of Qilihai Wetland in Tianjin City.[Method]In this study,the whole value of Qilihai Wetland was divided into two parts,namely use value and non-use value.The use value of Qilihai Wetland was estimated by market value,travel cost,shadow project method and so forth,and the non-use value of Qilihai Wetland was assessed by contingent valuation method.[Result]The total value of Qilihai Wetland reached 1.892 billion yuan,wherein the direct use value,including animal and plant products,tourism,scientific and cultural value,was 0.539 billion yuan,accounting for 28% of total value;the indirect use value,composed of functional values in hydrology,water quality,erosion control,CO2 fixation and habitats,was up to 0.965 billion yuan,making up 51%;the non-use value totaled 0.388 billion yuan,taking up 21%.In addition,the ecological benefit of Qilihai Wetland was the maximum,accounting for 72% of total benefit,followed by economic benefit(21%),while the social benefit was the minimum(9%).[Conclusion]The results can provide scientific references for the effective conservation and sustainable utilization of Qilihai Wetland. 展开更多
