It is difficult to observe in the field and its population is small. The present study reports a new distribution site in Nanxiong County, in northern Guangdong Province, where observations of an active nest were made from 4 May to 14 July 2012, the first time consecutive observations have been made for a period of more than two months. The adults flew away from the nest at night, with a peak at 19:00-20:00 and returned in the mornings with a peak at 04:30-05:30. The peak time for feeding young was at 05:00-05:30, accounting for 26.5%of total feeding activities. No feeding occurred from 10:00 to 16:00. The results of our study of its behavior explain why the White-eared Night Heron is usually observed in the evening just before dark, or in the morning before sunrise, at least during the breeding season. There were about 67 days from hatching to fledging, longer than the fledging time of most heron species. This study is the first to cover the entire period of parental care and fills a gap in previous knowledge.展开更多

One of its central themes is that once involved in war, a person is doomed to undergo a transformation from a human being to a soulless body. To understand this theme, we shall have to travel with Eliezer, the protagonist as well as the fi rst person narrator, through the long nights of living in fear of hunger, terror, and violence. Hopefully, the leg of this journey would reveal how the consistent exposure to traumatic experiences can compel a person to abandon the soul as his or her emotional and spiritual homebase.展开更多

As current population statistics cannot distinguish urban population during the daytime from that at night, existed research in this field are quite limited. This paper tries to advance studies at this aspect by establishing a relationship model for the three components of 'population, land use and time (daytime or night)' to explore the temporal and spatial characteristics of different types of population, which is aimed to estimate urban population during the daytime and at night and to analyze their spatial characteristics at grid scale. Furthermore, an empirical case study has been carried out at the Haidian District in Beijing, China to test the model. The results are as follows: (1) The spatial structure of urban population during the daytime is significantly different from that at night. The spatial distribution of urban population during the daytime is more extensive and more agglomerated that that at night. (2) Several types of spatial coupling relationship between population during the daytime and that at night have been identified, such as sandwich mode, symmetry mode, convergence mode and single mode, etc. (3) The spatial distribution of daytime and nighttime population also reflects certain factors during the development of China, such as the distribution of old residential areas, the construction of new industrial districts, and the differences between urban and rural areas, which can provide reference points for studies in this field and other regional research.展开更多

In this paper, using two early-maturing cotton varieties as experimental materials, night temperature increase was stimulated in the field using far-infrared quartz tubes set in semi-mobile incubators and compared with the normal night temperatures (control) in order to investigate the effects of night temperature on the cotton fiber cellulose synthesis during secondary wall thickening. The results showed that the activity of sucrose synthase (SuSy) and sucrose phosphate synthase (SPS) quickly increased and remained constant during the development of cotton fiber, while the activity of acid invertase (AI) and alkaline invertase (NI) decreased, increased night temperatures prompted the rapid transformation of sugar, and all the available sucrose fully converted into cellulose. With night temperature increasing treatment, an increase in SuSy activity and concentration of sucrose indicate more sucrose converted into UDPG (uridin diphosphate-glucose) during the early and late stages of cotton fiber development. Furthermore, SPS activity and the increased concentration of fructose accelerated fructose degradation and reduced the inhibition of fructose to SuSy; maintaining higher value of allocation proportion of invertase and sucrose during the early development stages of cotton fiber, which was propitious to supply a greater carbon source and energy for cellulose synthesis. Therefore, the minimum temperature in the nightime was a major factor correlated with the activity of sucrose metabolism enzymes in cotton fiber. Consequently, soluble sugar transformation and cellulose accumulation were closely associated with the minimum night temperature.展开更多

The underlying concept is to combine low-light visible and infrared imagery into a single output to enhance visual perception. The proposed framework is computationally simple since it is only realized in the spatial domain. The core idea is to obtain an initial fused image by averaging all the source images. The initial fused image is then enhanced by selecting the most salient features guided from the root mean square error(RMSE) and fractal dimension of the visual and infrared images to obtain the final fused image.Extensive experiments on different scene imaginary demonstrate that it is consistently superior to the conventional image fusion methods in terms of visual and quantitative evaluations.展开更多

文摘Once,in 2007,the authors had written:regarding to the endangerment of the White-eared Night Heron (Gorsachius magnificus),it would be evidentially to say that no longer the status of the bird is to meet the Criteria EN C1 but more likely still marginally meet EN C2a(i),and hence the bird might be currently remained amongst those Endangered (EN),with caveats that,if any bird could have been found in an area outside the range of any known subpopulation,it will then warrant a lower threat status. Now,it is time for due consideration.
文摘Aim To describe accumulating frames characteristics of CCD camera as a night vision detector. Methods Utilizing CCD external trigger, computer video capture card and image processing software, the image accumulation was made. Results The detection of the static object image whose illuminance on the CCD FPA(focal plane array) was less than 3 7×10 -5 lx was realized and the image's resolution of 300?TV lines was achieved. Conclusion This experimental system can provide a kind of night vision device capable of detecting the static object at low light level and with low cost compared to an image intensifier.
文摘Traveling is one major theme of Fitzgerald's novel Tender Is the Night. This fashionable activity for the 1920 s Americans is represented in the novel as ostensibly bearing different meanings to the main characters, but a deeper look would reveal that it is unanimously resorted to as a weapon against the spiritual barrenness caused by the cult of business, and more importantly, as a way to the experience of rootedness.

文摘The effects of different levels of CaCl 2 on photosynthesis under low night temperature(8°C) stress in peanuts were studied in order to find out the appropriate concentration of Ca2+through the artificial climate chamber potted culture test. The results indicated that Ca2+,by means of improving the stomatal conductivity of peanut leaves under low night temperature stress, may mitigate the decline of photosynthetic rate in the peanut leaves. The regulation with 15 mmol L-1CaCl 2(Ca15) was the most effective, compared with other treatments.Subsequently, the improvement of Ca2+on peanut photosynthesis under low night temperature stress was validated further through spraying with Ca15,Ca2+chelator(ethylene glycol bis(2-aminoethyl) tetraacetic acid; EGTA) and calmodulin antagonists(trifluonerazine; TFP).And CaM(Ca2+-modulin) played an important role in the nutritional signal transduction for Ca2+mitigating photosynthesis limitations in peanuts under low night temperature stress.
文摘Night is Elie Wiesel's classic memoir of the Holocaust. Hopefully, the leg of this journey would reveal how the consistent exposure to traumatic experiences can compel a person to abandon the soul as his or her emotional and spiritual homebase.

文摘Urban population during the daytime and at night and their spatial distribution are important bases for planning urban infrastructure, public services and disaster relief. (3) The spatial distribution of daytime and nighttime population also reflects certain factors during the development of China, such as the distribution of old residential areas, the construction of new industrial districts, and the differences between urban and rural areas, which can provide reference points for studies in this field and other regional research.

文摘Temperature is one of the key factors that influence cotton fiber synthesis at the late growth stage of cotton. Consequently, soluble sugar transformation and cellulose accumulation were closely associated with the minimum night temperature.

文摘In this paper, a novel fusion framework is proposed for night-vision applications such as pedestrian recognition, vehicle navigation and surveillance. The underlying concept is to combine low-light visible and infrared imagery into a single output to enhance visual perception. The proposed framework is computationally simple since it is only realized in the spatial domain. The core idea is to obtain an initial fused image by averaging all the source images. The initial fused image is then enhanced by selecting the most salient features guided from the root mean square error(RMSE) and fractal dimension of the visual and infrared images to obtain the final fused image.Extensive experiments on different scene imaginary demonstrate that it is consistently superior to the conventional image fusion methods in terms of visual and quantitative evaluations.
