In this study, we review imaging findings of two cases ...Introduction: Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) of the spine is a rare condition, with only a limited number of cases documented in the medical literature. In this study, we review imaging findings of two cases of PVNS arising in the spine. Case 1: A 52-year-old male presented with right thigh pain of unclear etiology. His condition subsequently deteriorated and he was referred to our hospital. MRI revealed a spinal tumor with high intensity on T1-weighted imaging (T1WI) and iso-intensity on T2WI in the right L2/3 intervertebral foramen. The tumor exhibited heterogeneous enhancement on contrast-enhanced MRI. Computed tomography (CT) myelography showed the presence of an epidural tumor within the right L2/3 intervertebral foramen, situated externally to the spinal canal and compressing the dura mater. Notable scalloping was observed in the posterior margin of the L2 vertebral body on CT images. Case 2: A 78-year-old male presented with a complaint of muscle weakness of the left upper limb. His gait gradually deteriorated, which led to suspicion of cervical myelopathy. A tumor was observed on plain MRI and exhibited low to iso-intensity on T1WI and high intensity on T2WI. The tumor was in the left C7/T1 intervertebral segment and the spinal cord was compressed from the left side. CT showed destruction of the medial aspect of the left C7 vertebral arch. Conclusion: In spinal PVNS, the signal intensity on MRI is dependent on the timing of hemorrhage within the tumor, and there are no distinctive features. However, if an extradural tumor is suspected and CT shows bone erosion, scalloping or osteolytic changes, PVNS should be considered as a differential diagnosis.展开更多
Pigmented skin spots,a visible sign of aging,can significantly affect the appearance of facial skin.To elucidate their pathogenesis and support the development of novel cosmetic ingredients,this review summarizes the ...Pigmented skin spots,a visible sign of aging,can significantly affect the appearance of facial skin.To elucidate their pathogenesis and support the development of novel cosmetic ingredients,this review summarizes the morphological characteristics of pigmented skin spots and the extrinsic and intrinsic factors contributing to their development.Additionally,it highlights the common cosmetic ingredients currently used for reducing hyperpigmentation.The relevant literature was collected by searching PubMed and Wanfang Data for studies focusing on pigmented spots and facial spots.Overall,the literature indicates that pigmented spots display distinct morphological characteristics,including specialized melanocyte dendrites,altered vascular architecture,abnormal keratinization,and immune cell infiltration.Mechanistically,their formation is driven by both extrinsic factors(e.g.,sun exposure,skin microbiota,and particulate matter)as well as intrinsic factors(e.g.,vascular abnormalities,chronic inflammation,and hormonal fluctuations).Thus,pigmented skin spots represent a complex biological system encompassing multiple types of cells and molecular mediators,regulated by diverse environmental and physiological factors.Given their intricate microenvironment conditions and multifactorial etiology,a systematic and comprehensive investigation of pigmented spots is warranted.Such research could inform the development of cosmetic ingredients with targeted and multitargeted actions,enabling the more effective reduction of pigmented skin spots.展开更多

Background:Melanocytic nevus is mainly treated by complete or partial removal.However,predicting the risk of malignant transformation of melanocytic nevi and which treatment patients should receive,surgical or nonsurg...Background:Melanocytic nevus is mainly treated by complete or partial removal.However,predicting the risk of malignant transformation of melanocytic nevi and which treatment patients should receive,surgical or nonsurgical management,to gain the best results and aesthetic outcomes is controversial.Methods:Global literature on melanocytic nevus treatment,published between 1997 and 2022,was scanned using the Web of Science Core Collection database.Microsoft Office Excel,CiteSpace V,VOSviewer,Scimago Graphica,Bibliometrix,and Biblioshiny packages in R were used for the bibliometric analysis to summarize the leading countries,institutions,professors,and research trends in this field.Results:This study included 1723 articles.Publications and citations exhibited positive trends over the past 20 years.The United States had the most productive organizations and publications in the comprehensive worldwide cooperation network,and China was recently one of the most active major participants.Professor Giovanni Pellacani,whose H-index,G-index,and M-index ranked first in this field,founded a virtual biopsy using reflectance confocal microscopy.In addition,Krengel and Kinsler contributed significantly to diagnosing and treating melanocytic nevi.The top 25 keywords in recent years were mostly about the mechanisms and risk factors for the malignant transformation of nevi.Conclusion:The future trend for melanocytic nevi treatment is to specify genotype-phenotype and genotypeoutcome correlations,choose proper therapy to reduce the risk of malignant transformation,and simultaneously achieve the best aesthetic outcomes.展开更多
Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome(BRBNS)is a rare disease characterized by multiple venous malformations and hemangiomas in the skin and visceral organs.The lesions often involve the cutaneous and gastrointestinal syste...Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome(BRBNS)is a rare disease characterized by multiple venous malformations and hemangiomas in the skin and visceral organs.The lesions often involve the cutaneous and gastrointestinal systems.Other organs can also be involved,such as the central nervous system,liver,and muscles.The most common symptoms are gastrointestinal bleeding and secondary iron deficiency anemia.The syndrome may also present with severe complications such as rupture,intestinal torsion,and intussusception,and can even cause death.Cutaneous malformations are usually asymptomatic and do not require treatment.The treatment of gastrointestinal lesions is determined by the extent of intestinal involvement and severity of the disease.Most patients respond to supportive therapy,such as iron supplementation and blood transfusion.For more significant hemorrhages or severe complications,surgical resection,endoscopic sclerosis,and laser photocoagulation have been proposed.Here we present a case of BRBNS in a 45-year-old woman involving 16sites including the scalp,eyelid,orbit,lip,tongue,face,back,upper and lower limbs,buttocks,root of neck,clavicle area,superior mediastinum,glottis,esophagus,colon,and anus,with secondary severe anemia.In addition,we summarize the epidemiology,clinical manifestations,diagnosis,differential diagnosis and therapies of this disease by analyzing all previously reported cases to enhance the awareness of this syndrome.展开更多

METHODS: Sixteen pigmented rabbits were monocularly deprived (MD) by suturing the ...AIM: To determine the effect of 7-methylxanthine (7-MX) on the posterior sclera of form-deprivation myopia (FDM) in pigmented rabbits. METHODS: Sixteen pigmented rabbits were monocularly deprived (MD) by suturing the right eyelids after natural eye opening (ten-day old) for a period of 30 days. Two groups of pigmented rabbits were fed either 7-MX (30 mg per kg body weight; n=8) or vehicle control (saline equal volume with 7-MX; n=8). Ocular refractions, axial lengths and body weights were measured at the start and the end of the experiment 30 days later. Electron microscopy was used to measure and determine the collagen fibril diameters in the posterior pole of sclera. RESULTS: In vehicle control MD pigmented rabbits, 30 days of MD produced -1.10D+/- 0.78D of myopia and the axial length increased 0.51mm+/- 0.09mm. In MD pigmented rabbits fed with 7-MX, 30 days of MD induced only -0.21D+/- 0.11D of myopia and the axial length increased 0.07mm+/- 0.10mm. There was significant change in axial length of vehicle control MD pigmented rabbits (13.11mm +/- 0.19mm versus 12.60mm+/- 0.06mm; P =0.03). The changes in refraction and axial length of two MD groups' contalateral eyes during the 30 days were not significantly different (2.75D+/- 0.27D versus 2.75D 0.35D, P>0.05; 12.60mm+/- 0.06mm versus 12.45mm +/- 0.14mm, P >0.05). The weights of the two groups pigmented rabbits had no significant changes (187g+/- 22.1g versus 189g+/- 19.3g, P>0.05). The diameter cif scleral collagen fibers increased in both eyes of 7-MX treated pigmented rabbits. There was significant difference in collagen fibril diameters of inner layer (111.34nm+/- 28.30nm versus 94.80nm +/- 27.52nm, P =0.002) and outer layer (167.92nm +/- 55.82nm versus 144.04nm +/- 47.02nm P =0.016) in the posterior sclera between the myopic eyes of vehicle control MD group and contralateral eyes of 7-MX treated MD group. CONCLUSION: 7-MX appears to prevent FDM in pigmented rabbits by remodeling the posterior sclera.展开更多
The effects of polishing on proximate compositions,physico-chemical characteristics,mineral compositions and antioxidant properties of the rice flours obtained from three different pigmented rice varieties(Chak-hao An...The effects of polishing on proximate compositions,physico-chemical characteristics,mineral compositions and antioxidant properties of the rice flours obtained from three different pigmented rice varieties(Chak-hao Angangba,Chak-hao Amubi and Chak-hao Poireiton) were investigated.The rice varieties were significantly(P < 0.05) different in the contents of the test characteristics.Lipids,ash,minerals,phytochemicals(phenolic acids and flavonoids) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) activity of rice flours were decreased after polishing(9% degree of milling),while amylose content and lightness were increased.X-ray diffraction pattern of rice flours exhibited A-type crystalline pattern with reflections at 15.1o,17.1o,18.2o and 23.0o.Pasting properties and transition temperatures were decreased after polishing treatment.Polishing resulted in changes in the crystallinity,enthalpy and morphology of rice flours.展开更多

The effect of MRA was determined after following-up for 6mo to 5y.RESULTS: Fifty-two cases (52 eyes, 92.9%) were cured once, and 4 cases (4 eyes, 7.1%) received second treatment for small residual. All cases healed well after surgery, with no pigmentation, no scars, no loss of eyelashes, no deformation of eyelid margin. There was no visual impairment after healing.CONCLUSION: MRA of eyelid nevus using the XL-RFA device is highly efficient without significant complications.展开更多

Methods Primary porcine RPE cells wer...Object To investigate the therapeutic effect of microencapsulated porcine retinal pigmented epithelial cells (RPE-M) transplantation on rat model of Parkinson's disease (PD). Methods Primary porcine RPE cells were harvested by enzyme digestion and expanded in culture medium. Determine the levels ofdopamine (DA) and homovanillic acid (HVA) by high performance liquid chromatography electrochemical (HPLC) assay, and the levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and glial-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) were detected by ELISA. Alginate-polylysine-alginate (APA) microencapsulated cells were produced by using a high voltage electrostatic system. PD rat model was established by unilateral injection of 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) into the medial forebrain bundle (MFB). After that, the RPE-M was transplanted into the corpus striatum of PD rat, and then the rotation test scores were recorded and biochemical changes of the corpus striatum were tested. Results The levels of DA, HVA, BDNF and GDNF secreted by RPE were stable in the RPE culture supernatant and were not changed by the microencapsulation. Eighty-three percent rats developed PD by unilateral lesion of 6-OHDA in the MFB. The RPE-M transplantation had therapeutic effect on 33% PD rats. Conclusion Porcine RPE cells grow actively in vitro and could secrete DA, HVA, BDNF, and GDNF constantly, which does not be affected by the passage culture and the APA miroencapsulation. RPE-M transplantation of may be a curative therapy for PD.展开更多

BRBNS is a rare vascular anomaly syndrome consisting of multifocal hemangiomas of the skin and gastrointestinal(GI) tract but her GI tract had never been examined. An upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a large bleeding esophageal hematoma positioned between the thoracic esophagus and the gastric cardia. An endoscopic injection of polidocanol was used to stop the hematoma from bleeding. The hematoma was incised using the injectionneedle to reduce the pressure within it. Finally, argon plasma coagulation(APC) was applied to the edge of the incision. The esophageal hematoma disappeared seven days later. Two months after the endoscopic the rapy, the eso phage alulcerhealed and the hemangioma did not relapse. This rare case of a large esophageal hematoma originating from a hemangioma with BRBNS was treated using a combination of endoscopic therapy with polidocanol injection, incision, and APC.展开更多

The study of training hyperparameters optimisation problems remains underexplored in skin lesion research.This is the first report of using hierarchical optimisation to improve computational effort in a four-dimension...The study of training hyperparameters optimisation problems remains underexplored in skin lesion research.This is the first report of using hierarchical optimisation to improve computational effort in a four-dimensional search space for the problem.The authors explore training parameters selection in optimising the learning process of a model to differentiate pigmented lesions characteristics.In the authors'demonstration,pretrained GoogleNet is fine-tuned with a full training set by varying hyperparameters,namely epoch,mini-batch value,initial learning rate,and gradient threshold.The iterative search of the optimal global-local solution is by using the derivative-based method.The authors used non-parametric one-way ANOVA to test whether the classification accuracies differed for the variation in the training parameters.The authors identified the mini-batch size and initial learning rate as parameters that significantly influence the model's learning capability.The authors'results showed that a small fraction of combinations(5%)from constrained global search space,in contrarily to 82%at the local level,can converge with early stopping conditions.The mean(standard deviation,SD)validation accuracies increased from 78.4(4.44)%to 82.9(1.8)%using the authors'system.The fine-tuned model's performance measures evaluated on a testing dataset showed classification accuracy,precision,sensitivity,and specificity of 85.3%,75.6%,64.4%,and 97.2%,respectively.The authors'system achieves an overall better diagnosis performance than four state-of-the-art approaches via an improved search of parameters for a good adaptation of the model to the authors'dataset.The extended experiments also showed its superior performance consistency across different deep networks,where the overall classification accuracy increased by 5%with this technique.This approach reduces the risk of search being trapped in a suboptimal solution,and its use may be expanded to network architecture optimisation for enhanced diagnostic performance.展开更多
The present study aimed to investigate the hypolipidemic,antioxidant and cardiac risk-suppressing effects of Chakhao poireiton(CP),a GI-tagged pigmented black rice from India.In vitro and ex vivo studies confirmed tha...The present study aimed to investigate the hypolipidemic,antioxidant and cardiac risk-suppressing effects of Chakhao poireiton(CP),a GI-tagged pigmented black rice from India.In vitro and ex vivo studies confirmed that whole rice extracts of CP have potent antioxidant,3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase,cholesterol esterase inhibitory,and antilipase effects.An in vivo study was conducted to evaluate the effects of the ethanol extracts of CP on high-fat high-sugar induced hyperlipidemic rats.The ethanol extract significantly ameliorated lipid parameters and liver enzymes to normal.Levels of lactate dehydrogenase,creatine kinase-N-acetyl cysteine,C-reactive protein,and lipoprotein a were significantly lower in the extract-treated groups than those in the disease control group.A marked reduction of ApoB/ApoA1 and other atherogenic indices were observed in extract-treated groups.Twelve phenolic compounds,i.e.rosamarinic acid,gallic acid,protocatechuic acid etc.,were quantified in CP.This study provided the first evidence of the antihyperlipidemic and cardiac risk inhibitory effects of CP,which would be beneficial in preventing and managing hyperlipidemia,associated oxidative stress,and cardiac complications.展开更多
AIM:To evaluate the effects of LIN28A(human)on high glucose-induced retinal pigmented epithelium(RPE)cell injury and its possible mechanism.METHODS:Diabetic retinopathy model was generated following 48h of exposure to...AIM:To evaluate the effects of LIN28A(human)on high glucose-induced retinal pigmented epithelium(RPE)cell injury and its possible mechanism.METHODS:Diabetic retinopathy model was generated following 48h of exposure to 30 mmol/L high glucose(HG)in ARPE-19 cells.Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR)and Western blot tested the expression of the corresponding genes and proteins.Cell viability as well as apoptosis was determined through cell counting kit-8(CCK-8)and flow cytometry assays.Immunofluorescence assay was adopted to evaluate autophagy activity.Caspase 3 activity,oxidative stress markers,and cytokines were appraised adopting their commercial kits,respectively.Finally,ARPE-19 cells were preincubated with EX527,a Sirtuin 1(SIRT1)inhibitor,prior to HG stimulation to validate the regulatory mechanism.RESULTS:LIN28A was downregulated in HG-challenged ARPE-19 cells.LIN28A overexpression greatly inhibited HGinduced ARPE-19 cell viability loss,apoptosis,oxidative damage as well as inflammatory response.Meanwhile,the repressed autophagy and SIRT1 in ARPE-19 cells challenged with HG were elevated after LIN28A overexpression.In addition,treatment of EX527 greatly inhibited the activated autophagy following LIN28A overexpression and partly abolished the protective role of LIN28A against HG-elicited apoptosis,oxidative damage as well as inflammation in ARPE-19 cells.CONCLUSION:LIN28A exerts a protective role against HG-elicited RPE oxidative damage,inflammation,as well as apoptosis via regulating SIRT1/autophagy.展开更多

Malfunctioning of RPE contributes to the onset and...As a constituent of blood-retinal barrier and retinal outer segment(ROS) scavenger, retinal pigmented epithelium(RPE) is fundamental to normal function of retina. Malfunctioning of RPE contributes to the onset and advance of retinal degenerative diseases. Up to date, RPE replacement therapy is the only possible method to completely reverse retinal degeneration. Transplantation of human RPE stem cell-derived RPE(h RPESC-RPE) has shown some good results in animal models. With promising results in terms of safety and visual improvement, human embryonic stem cell-derived RPE(h ESC-RPE) can be expected in clinical settings in the near future. Despite twists and turns, induced pluripotent stem cell-derived RPE(i PSC-RPE) is now being intensely investigated to overcome genetic and epigenetic instability. By far, only one patient has received i PSCRPE transplant, which is a hallmark of i PSC technology development. During follow-up, no major complications such as immunogenicity or tumorigenesis have been observed. Future trials should keep focusing on the safety of stem cell-derived RPE(SC-RPE) especially in long period, and better understanding of the nature of stem cell and the molecular events in the process to generate SC-RPE is necessary to the prosperity of SC-RPE clinical application.展开更多
BACKGROUND Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome(BRBNS)is a rare vascular disease,difficult to diagnose and choose a treatment method,especially in young children.There are several limiting factors to the use of enteroscopy...BACKGROUND Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome(BRBNS)is a rare vascular disease,difficult to diagnose and choose a treatment method,especially in young children.There are several limiting factors to the use of enteroscopy for diagnostics and treatment in pediatric patients,in general.The literature on BRBNS cases is limited and presents various therapeutic approaches.CASE SUMMARY We present here a case of BRBNS involving a 4-year-old female,whose intestinal venous lesions were successfully treated by endoscopic sclerotherapy and aethoxysklerol foam.Skin lesions,typical for BRBNS,appeared on the 8th d of the child’s life and their number increased over the next several months.The child also experienced episodes of critical decrease in hemoglobin level(by as much as 52 g/L)for several years,requiring iron supplementation and several blood transfusions.Video capsule endoscopy revealed numerous vascular formations in the small bowel.The combined findings of gastrointestinal venous formations and skin lesions prompted BRBNS diagnosis.Single-balloon enteroscopy was used to perform sclerotherapy,with aethoxysklerol foam.A positive effect was observed within 19 mo of follow-up.We continue to monitor the patient’s hemoglobin level,every 2 wk,and it has remained satisfactory(>120 g/L).CONCLUSION Endoscopic sclerotherapy can be effective in the clinical management of gastrointestinal manifestations of BRBNS in young children.展开更多

文摘Introduction: Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) of the spine is a rare condition, with only a limited number of cases documented in the medical literature. In this study, we review imaging findings of two cases of PVNS arising in the spine. Case 1: A 52-year-old male presented with right thigh pain of unclear etiology. His condition subsequently deteriorated and he was referred to our hospital. MRI revealed a spinal tumor with high intensity on T1-weighted imaging (T1WI) and iso-intensity on T2WI in the right L2/3 intervertebral foramen. The tumor exhibited heterogeneous enhancement on contrast-enhanced MRI. Computed tomography (CT) myelography showed the presence of an epidural tumor within the right L2/3 intervertebral foramen, situated externally to the spinal canal and compressing the dura mater. Notable scalloping was observed in the posterior margin of the L2 vertebral body on CT images. Case 2: A 78-year-old male presented with a complaint of muscle weakness of the left upper limb. His gait gradually deteriorated, which led to suspicion of cervical myelopathy. A tumor was observed on plain MRI and exhibited low to iso-intensity on T1WI and high intensity on T2WI. The tumor was in the left C7/T1 intervertebral segment and the spinal cord was compressed from the left side. CT showed destruction of the medial aspect of the left C7 vertebral arch. Conclusion: In spinal PVNS, the signal intensity on MRI is dependent on the timing of hemorrhage within the tumor, and there are no distinctive features. However, if an extradural tumor is suspected and CT shows bone erosion, scalloping or osteolytic changes, PVNS should be considered as a differential diagnosis.
文摘Pigmented skin spots,a visible sign of aging,can significantly affect the appearance of facial skin.To elucidate their pathogenesis and support the development of novel cosmetic ingredients,this review summarizes the morphological characteristics of pigmented skin spots and the extrinsic and intrinsic factors contributing to their development.Additionally,it highlights the common cosmetic ingredients currently used for reducing hyperpigmentation.The relevant literature was collected by searching PubMed and Wanfang Data for studies focusing on pigmented spots and facial spots.Overall,the literature indicates that pigmented spots display distinct morphological characteristics,including specialized melanocyte dendrites,altered vascular architecture,abnormal keratinization,and immune cell infiltration.Mechanistically,their formation is driven by both extrinsic factors(e.g.,sun exposure,skin microbiota,and particulate matter)as well as intrinsic factors(e.g.,vascular abnormalities,chronic inflammation,and hormonal fluctuations).Thus,pigmented skin spots represent a complex biological system encompassing multiple types of cells and molecular mediators,regulated by diverse environmental and physiological factors.Given their intricate microenvironment conditions and multifactorial etiology,a systematic and comprehensive investigation of pigmented spots is warranted.Such research could inform the development of cosmetic ingredients with targeted and multitargeted actions,enabling the more effective reduction of pigmented skin spots.

文摘A 3-year-old boy presented with bluish patch and scattered blue spots on the left side of his face.After several sessions of laser treatment,the azury patch in the periorbital area became even darker.Histopathology showed many bipolar,pigment-laden dendritic cells scattered in the papillary and upper reticular dermis.Immunohistochemically,these cells were positive for S100,SOX-10,melan-A,P16,and HMB-45.The positive rate of Ki-67 was less than 5%.Finally,the lesion was diagnosed with nevus of Ota concurrent with common blue nevus.Therefore,for cases of the nevus of Ota with poor response to laser treatment,the possible coexisting diseases should be suspected.

文摘Background:Melanocytic nevus is mainly treated by complete or partial removal.However,predicting the risk of malignant transformation of melanocytic nevi and which treatment patients should receive,surgical or nonsurgical management,to gain the best results and aesthetic outcomes is controversial.Methods:Global literature on melanocytic nevus treatment,published between 1997 and 2022,was scanned using the Web of Science Core Collection database.Microsoft Office Excel,CiteSpace V,VOSviewer,Scimago Graphica,Bibliometrix,and Biblioshiny packages in R were used for the bibliometric analysis to summarize the leading countries,institutions,professors,and research trends in this field.Results:This study included 1723 articles.Publications and citations exhibited positive trends over the past 20 years.The United States had the most productive organizations and publications in the comprehensive worldwide cooperation network,and China was recently one of the most active major participants.Professor Giovanni Pellacani,whose H-index,G-index,and M-index ranked first in this field,founded a virtual biopsy using reflectance confocal microscopy.In addition,Krengel and Kinsler contributed significantly to diagnosing and treating melanocytic nevi.The top 25 keywords in recent years were mostly about the mechanisms and risk factors for the malignant transformation of nevi.Conclusion:The future trend for melanocytic nevi treatment is to specify genotype-phenotype and genotypeoutcome correlations,choose proper therapy to reduce the risk of malignant transformation,and simultaneously achieve the best aesthetic outcomes.
文摘Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome(BRBNS)is a rare disease characterized by multiple venous malformations and hemangiomas in the skin and visceral organs.The lesions often involve the cutaneous and gastrointestinal systems.Other organs can also be involved,such as the central nervous system,liver,and muscles.The most common symptoms are gastrointestinal bleeding and secondary iron deficiency anemia.The syndrome may also present with severe complications such as rupture,intestinal torsion,and intussusception,and can even cause death.Cutaneous malformations are usually asymptomatic and do not require treatment.The treatment of gastrointestinal lesions is determined by the extent of intestinal involvement and severity of the disease.Most patients respond to supportive therapy,such as iron supplementation and blood transfusion.For more significant hemorrhages or severe complications,surgical resection,endoscopic sclerosis,and laser photocoagulation have been proposed.Here we present a case of BRBNS in a 45-year-old woman involving 16sites including the scalp,eyelid,orbit,lip,tongue,face,back,upper and lower limbs,buttocks,root of neck,clavicle area,superior mediastinum,glottis,esophagus,colon,and anus,with secondary severe anemia.In addition,we summarize the epidemiology,clinical manifestations,diagnosis,differential diagnosis and therapies of this disease by analyzing all previously reported cases to enhance the awareness of this syndrome.

文摘AIM: To determine the effect of 7-methylxanthine (7-MX) on the posterior sclera of form-deprivation myopia (FDM) in pigmented rabbits. METHODS: Sixteen pigmented rabbits were monocularly deprived (MD) by suturing the right eyelids after natural eye opening (ten-day old) for a period of 30 days. Two groups of pigmented rabbits were fed either 7-MX (30 mg per kg body weight; n=8) or vehicle control (saline equal volume with 7-MX; n=8). Ocular refractions, axial lengths and body weights were measured at the start and the end of the experiment 30 days later. Electron microscopy was used to measure and determine the collagen fibril diameters in the posterior pole of sclera. RESULTS: In vehicle control MD pigmented rabbits, 30 days of MD produced -1.10D+/- 0.78D of myopia and the axial length increased 0.51mm+/- 0.09mm. In MD pigmented rabbits fed with 7-MX, 30 days of MD induced only -0.21D+/- 0.11D of myopia and the axial length increased 0.07mm+/- 0.10mm. There was significant change in axial length of vehicle control MD pigmented rabbits (13.11mm +/- 0.19mm versus 12.60mm+/- 0.06mm; P =0.03). The changes in refraction and axial length of two MD groups' contalateral eyes during the 30 days were not significantly different (2.75D+/- 0.27D versus 2.75D 0.35D, P>0.05; 12.60mm+/- 0.06mm versus 12.45mm +/- 0.14mm, P >0.05). The weights of the two groups pigmented rabbits had no significant changes (187g+/- 22.1g versus 189g+/- 19.3g, P>0.05). The diameter cif scleral collagen fibers increased in both eyes of 7-MX treated pigmented rabbits. There was significant difference in collagen fibril diameters of inner layer (111.34nm+/- 28.30nm versus 94.80nm +/- 27.52nm, P =0.002) and outer layer (167.92nm +/- 55.82nm versus 144.04nm +/- 47.02nm P =0.016) in the posterior sclera between the myopic eyes of vehicle control MD group and contralateral eyes of 7-MX treated MD group. CONCLUSION: 7-MX appears to prevent FDM in pigmented rabbits by remodeling the posterior sclera.

文摘The effects of polishing on proximate compositions,physico-chemical characteristics,mineral compositions and antioxidant properties of the rice flours obtained from three different pigmented rice varieties(Chak-hao Angangba,Chak-hao Amubi and Chak-hao Poireiton) were investigated.The rice varieties were significantly(P < 0.05) different in the contents of the test characteristics.Lipids,ash,minerals,phytochemicals(phenolic acids and flavonoids) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) activity of rice flours were decreased after polishing(9% degree of milling),while amylose content and lightness were increased.X-ray diffraction pattern of rice flours exhibited A-type crystalline pattern with reflections at 15.1o,17.1o,18.2o and 23.0o.Pasting properties and transition temperatures were decreased after polishing treatment.Polishing resulted in changes in the crystallinity,enthalpy and morphology of rice flours.

文摘AIM: To study the effect of an innovative micro-dissection procedure by radiofrequency ablation (MRA) in removing eyelid nevus.METHODS: Fifty-six consecutive outpatients with eyelid nevus were treated with MRA using a monopolar device. The effect of MRA was determined after following-up for 6mo to 5y.RESULTS: Fifty-two cases (52 eyes, 92.9%) were cured once, and 4 cases (4 eyes, 7.1%) received second treatment for small residual. All cases healed well after surgery, with no pigmentation, no scars, no loss of eyelashes, no deformation of eyelid margin. There was no visual impairment after healing.CONCLUSION: MRA of eyelid nevus using the XL-RFA device is highly efficient without significant complications.
文摘Object To investigate the therapeutic effect of microencapsulated porcine retinal pigmented epithelial cells (RPE-M) transplantation on rat model of Parkinson's disease (PD). Methods Primary porcine RPE cells were harvested by enzyme digestion and expanded in culture medium. Determine the levels ofdopamine (DA) and homovanillic acid (HVA) by high performance liquid chromatography electrochemical (HPLC) assay, and the levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and glial-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) were detected by ELISA. Alginate-polylysine-alginate (APA) microencapsulated cells were produced by using a high voltage electrostatic system. PD rat model was established by unilateral injection of 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) into the medial forebrain bundle (MFB). After that, the RPE-M was transplanted into the corpus striatum of PD rat, and then the rotation test scores were recorded and biochemical changes of the corpus striatum were tested. Results The levels of DA, HVA, BDNF and GDNF secreted by RPE were stable in the RPE culture supernatant and were not changed by the microencapsulation. Eighty-three percent rats developed PD by unilateral lesion of 6-OHDA in the MFB. The RPE-M transplantation had therapeutic effect on 33% PD rats. Conclusion Porcine RPE cells grow actively in vitro and could secrete DA, HVA, BDNF, and GDNF constantly, which does not be affected by the passage culture and the APA miroencapsulation. RPE-M transplantation of may be a curative therapy for PD.
文摘A 57-year-old woman previously diagnosed with blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome(BRBNS) reported hematemesis. BRBNS is a rare vascular anomaly syndrome consisting of multifocal hemangiomas of the skin and gastrointestinal(GI) tract but her GI tract had never been examined. An upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a large bleeding esophageal hematoma positioned between the thoracic esophagus and the gastric cardia. An endoscopic injection of polidocanol was used to stop the hematoma from bleeding. The hematoma was incised using the injectionneedle to reduce the pressure within it. Finally, argon plasma coagulation(APC) was applied to the edge of the incision. The esophageal hematoma disappeared seven days later. Two months after the endoscopic the rapy, the eso phage alulcerhealed and the hemangioma did not relapse. This rare case of a large esophageal hematoma originating from a hemangioma with BRBNS was treated using a combination of endoscopic therapy with polidocanol injection, incision, and APC.

文摘The study of training hyperparameters optimisation problems remains underexplored in skin lesion research.This is the first report of using hierarchical optimisation to improve computational effort in a four-dimensional search space for the problem.The authors explore training parameters selection in optimising the learning process of a model to differentiate pigmented lesions characteristics.In the authors'demonstration,pretrained GoogleNet is fine-tuned with a full training set by varying hyperparameters,namely epoch,mini-batch value,initial learning rate,and gradient threshold.The iterative search of the optimal global-local solution is by using the derivative-based method.The authors used non-parametric one-way ANOVA to test whether the classification accuracies differed for the variation in the training parameters.The authors identified the mini-batch size and initial learning rate as parameters that significantly influence the model's learning capability.The authors'results showed that a small fraction of combinations(5%)from constrained global search space,in contrarily to 82%at the local level,can converge with early stopping conditions.The mean(standard deviation,SD)validation accuracies increased from 78.4(4.44)%to 82.9(1.8)%using the authors'system.The fine-tuned model's performance measures evaluated on a testing dataset showed classification accuracy,precision,sensitivity,and specificity of 85.3%,75.6%,64.4%,and 97.2%,respectively.The authors'system achieves an overall better diagnosis performance than four state-of-the-art approaches via an improved search of parameters for a good adaptation of the model to the authors'dataset.The extended experiments also showed its superior performance consistency across different deep networks,where the overall classification accuracy increased by 5%with this technique.This approach reduces the risk of search being trapped in a suboptimal solution,and its use may be expanded to network architecture optimisation for enhanced diagnostic performance.

文摘The present study aimed to investigate the hypolipidemic,antioxidant and cardiac risk-suppressing effects of Chakhao poireiton(CP),a GI-tagged pigmented black rice from India.In vitro and ex vivo studies confirmed that whole rice extracts of CP have potent antioxidant,3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase,cholesterol esterase inhibitory,and antilipase effects.An in vivo study was conducted to evaluate the effects of the ethanol extracts of CP on high-fat high-sugar induced hyperlipidemic rats.The ethanol extract significantly ameliorated lipid parameters and liver enzymes to normal.Levels of lactate dehydrogenase,creatine kinase-N-acetyl cysteine,C-reactive protein,and lipoprotein a were significantly lower in the extract-treated groups than those in the disease control group.A marked reduction of ApoB/ApoA1 and other atherogenic indices were observed in extract-treated groups.Twelve phenolic compounds,i.e.rosamarinic acid,gallic acid,protocatechuic acid etc.,were quantified in CP.This study provided the first evidence of the antihyperlipidemic and cardiac risk inhibitory effects of CP,which would be beneficial in preventing and managing hyperlipidemia,associated oxidative stress,and cardiac complications.

文摘AIM:To evaluate the effects of LIN28A(human)on high glucose-induced retinal pigmented epithelium(RPE)cell injury and its possible mechanism.METHODS:Diabetic retinopathy model was generated following 48h of exposure to 30 mmol/L high glucose(HG)in ARPE-19 cells.Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR)and Western blot tested the expression of the corresponding genes and proteins.Cell viability as well as apoptosis was determined through cell counting kit-8(CCK-8)and flow cytometry assays.Immunofluorescence assay was adopted to evaluate autophagy activity.Caspase 3 activity,oxidative stress markers,and cytokines were appraised adopting their commercial kits,respectively.Finally,ARPE-19 cells were preincubated with EX527,a Sirtuin 1(SIRT1)inhibitor,prior to HG stimulation to validate the regulatory mechanism.RESULTS:LIN28A was downregulated in HG-challenged ARPE-19 cells.LIN28A overexpression greatly inhibited HGinduced ARPE-19 cell viability loss,apoptosis,oxidative damage as well as inflammatory response.Meanwhile,the repressed autophagy and SIRT1 in ARPE-19 cells challenged with HG were elevated after LIN28A overexpression.In addition,treatment of EX527 greatly inhibited the activated autophagy following LIN28A overexpression and partly abolished the protective role of LIN28A against HG-elicited apoptosis,oxidative damage as well as inflammation in ARPE-19 cells.CONCLUSION:LIN28A exerts a protective role against HG-elicited RPE oxidative damage,inflammation,as well as apoptosis via regulating SIRT1/autophagy.
文摘As a constituent of blood-retinal barrier and retinal outer segment(ROS) scavenger, retinal pigmented epithelium(RPE) is fundamental to normal function of retina. Malfunctioning of RPE contributes to the onset and advance of retinal degenerative diseases. Up to date, RPE replacement therapy is the only possible method to completely reverse retinal degeneration. Transplantation of human RPE stem cell-derived RPE(h RPESC-RPE) has shown some good results in animal models. With promising results in terms of safety and visual improvement, human embryonic stem cell-derived RPE(h ESC-RPE) can be expected in clinical settings in the near future. Despite twists and turns, induced pluripotent stem cell-derived RPE(i PSC-RPE) is now being intensely investigated to overcome genetic and epigenetic instability. By far, only one patient has received i PSCRPE transplant, which is a hallmark of i PSC technology development. During follow-up, no major complications such as immunogenicity or tumorigenesis have been observed. Future trials should keep focusing on the safety of stem cell-derived RPE(SC-RPE) especially in long period, and better understanding of the nature of stem cell and the molecular events in the process to generate SC-RPE is necessary to the prosperity of SC-RPE clinical application.
文摘BACKGROUND Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome(BRBNS)is a rare vascular disease,difficult to diagnose and choose a treatment method,especially in young children.There are several limiting factors to the use of enteroscopy for diagnostics and treatment in pediatric patients,in general.The literature on BRBNS cases is limited and presents various therapeutic approaches.CASE SUMMARY We present here a case of BRBNS involving a 4-year-old female,whose intestinal venous lesions were successfully treated by endoscopic sclerotherapy and aethoxysklerol foam.Skin lesions,typical for BRBNS,appeared on the 8th d of the child’s life and their number increased over the next several months.The child also experienced episodes of critical decrease in hemoglobin level(by as much as 52 g/L)for several years,requiring iron supplementation and several blood transfusions.Video capsule endoscopy revealed numerous vascular formations in the small bowel.The combined findings of gastrointestinal venous formations and skin lesions prompted BRBNS diagnosis.Single-balloon enteroscopy was used to perform sclerotherapy,with aethoxysklerol foam.A positive effect was observed within 19 mo of follow-up.We continue to monitor the patient’s hemoglobin level,every 2 wk,and it has remained satisfactory(>120 g/L).CONCLUSION Endoscopic sclerotherapy can be effective in the clinical management of gastrointestinal manifestations of BRBNS in young children.
