Different genetic types of meter-scale cyclic sequences in stratigraphic records result from episodic accumulation of strata related to Milankovitch cycles. The distinctive fabric natures of facies succession result from the sedimentation governed by different sediment sources and sedimentary dynamic conditions in different paleogeographical backgrounds, corresponding to high-frequency sea-level changes. Naturally, this is the fundamental criterion for the classification of genetic types of meter-scale cyclic sequences. The widespread development in stratigraphic records and the regular vertical stacking patterns in long-term sequences, the evolution characters of earth history and the genetic types reflected by specific fabric natures of facies successions in different paleogeographical settings, all that show meter-scale cyclic sequences are not only the elementary working units in stratigraphy and sedimentology, but also the replenishment and extension of parasequence of sequence stratigraphy. Two genetic kinds of facies succession for meter-scale cyclic sequence in neritic-facies strata of carbonate and clastic rocks, are normal grading succession mainly formed by tidal sedimentation and inverse grading succession chiefly made by wave sedimentation, and both of them constitute generally shallowing upward succession, the thickness of which ranges from several tens of centimeters to several meters. The classification of genetic types of meter-scale cyclic sequence could be made in terms of the fabric natures of facies succession, and carbonate meter-scale cyclic sequences could be divided into four types: L-M type, deep-water asymmetrical type, subtidal type and peritidal type. Clastic meter-scale cyclic sequences could be grouped into two types: tidal-dynamic type and wave-dynamic type. The boundaries of meter-scale cyclic sequences are marked by instantaneous punctuated surface formed by non-deposition resulting from high-frequency level changes, which include instantaneous exposed punctuated surface, drowned punctuated surface as well as their relative surface. The development of instantaneous punctuated surface used as the boundary of meter-scale cyclic sequence brings about the limitations of Walter's Law on the explanation of facies distribution in time and space, and reaffirm the importance of Sander's Rule on analysis of stratigraphic records. These non-continuous surface could be traced for long distance and some could be correlative within same basin range. The study of meter-scale cyclic sequences and their regularly vertical stacking patterns in long-term sequences indicate that the research into cyclicity of stratigraphic records is a useful way to get more regularity from stratigraphic records that are frequently complex as well as non-integrated. 展开更多

Diagrams as a visual technique played a key role in early modern natural history.Robert Morison,a Scottish botanist and the first Professor of Botany at Oxford University,made a noteworthy early attempt in the 17th century to promote the use of diagrams in plant taxonomy.By pioneering the use of diagrams as the core of his botanical monographs,Morison inverted the order in which text and diagrams are read in natural history books and made diagrams more than a mere adjunct to the main text.Morison also consciously aligned the structure of the diagrams with the spatial arrangement of his seed collection and the Oxford Botanic Garden,so that the diagrams functioned productively as a means of bridging difierent botanical practices and retrieving information from multiple aspects.Morison’s appropriation and mobilisation of the diagrammatic mode of representation that originated in the Middle Ages helped pave the way for the diagram,as a visual language between textuality and pictoriality,to become prevalent amongst early modern naturalists. 展开更多

本研究采用脉冲超声辅助天然低共熔溶剂(Natural deep eutectic solvents,NADES)提取欧李多酚(Cerasus humilis polyphenol,CHP),经单因素实验和正交试验优化提取参数,利用吸附/解吸能力筛选最优树脂,采用树脂吸附动力学、等温线平衡实... 本研究采用脉冲超声辅助天然低共熔溶剂(Natural deep eutectic solvents,NADES)提取欧李多酚(Cerasus humilis polyphenol,CHP),经单因素实验和正交试验优化提取参数,利用吸附/解吸能力筛选最优树脂,采用树脂吸附动力学、等温线平衡实验探究树脂对CHP的吸附机制,并对CHP组成及抗氧化活性进行了分析。结果表明,氯化胆碱和柠檬酸为提取CHP最优溶剂,料液比1:50(g/mL)、超声功率420 W、NADES含水率35%(V/V)、超声提取30 min,CHP提取量达491.25 mg/100 g干重。AB-8具有良好的吸附/解吸能力和解吸率(分别为80.20%、57.81%和46.36%),被筛选为最佳树脂。吸附过程为单分子层吸附,且低温有利于吸附进行。通过LC-MS^(2)从提取物中鉴定出包括绿原酸、儿茶素和表儿茶素在内的17种多酚类化合物。此外,CHP对DPPH、ABTS^(+)自由基SC_(50)分别为0.059和0.032 mg/mL,展示出较强的抗氧化能力。本研究可为欧李功能性活性物质的绿色提取和应用提供理论依据。 展开更多

Effects of forest and simulated nature meditation on university students'well-being

The rise in urbanization has increasingly restricted access to natural environments,posing substantial risks to the physical and mental health of urban populations,including university students and other high-stress groups.This study examines the comparative effects of outdoor forest meditation(OFM)and indoor nature meditation(INM)in simulated nature environments(SNEs)on the physiological and psychological health of university students.A pretestposttest repeated measures design was employed,with 40students participating in three replicated OFM sessions and three identical INM sessions across varied SNE settings.Key physiological metrics,including heart rate(HR),blood pressure(BP),and salivary amylase concentration(SAC),were measured before and after each session.Psychological well-being was assessed using the Perceived Stress Scale-10(PSS-10)and Profile of Mood States(POMS).Results revealed significant reductions(p<0.05)in most post-intervention outcomes,except in the second indoor session across physiologic al and psychologic al responses,while multi-sensory INM sessions produced comparable benefits.Notably,SNEs with enhanced sensory components were effective,though slightly less impactful than OFM.These findings suggest that both OFM in nature and INM in SNEs can benefit university students'well-being.INM in SNEs offers a promising alternative for those with limited access to natural settings,contributing meaningfully to stress reduction and overall well-being.This study highlights the potential for nature-based strategies for human health in urban centres,advocating for further investigation into the long-term impacts of SNEs and optimal sensory configurations for maximizing therapeutic effects in urban populations. 展开更多

Numerical study of a quantum spin in an s-wave superconductor using the natural orbitals renormalization group method

In a superconductor embedded with a quantum magnetic impurity,the Kondo effect is involved,leading to the competition between the Kondo singlet phase and the superconductivity phase.By means of the natural orbitals renormalization group(NORG)method,we revisit the problem of a quantum magnetic impurity coupled with a conventional s-wave superconductor.Here we present a detailed study focusing on the impurity spin polarization and susceptibility,the Kondo screening cloud,as well as the number and structures of the active natural orbitals(ANOs).In the superconducting phase,the impurity spin is partially polarized,indicating that the impurity remains partially screened by the quantum fluctuations.Furthermore,the impurity spin susceptibility becomes divergent,resulting from the presence of residual local moment formed at the impurity site.Correspondingly,a non-integral(incomplete)Kondo cloud is formed,although the ground state is a spin doublet in this phase.In comparison,the Kondo cloud is complete in the Kondo singlet phase as expected.We also quantify the critical point,where the quantum phase transition from a Kondo singlet phase to a superconducting phase occurs,which is consistent with that in previous works.On the other hand,it is illustrated that only one ANO emerges in both quantum phases.The structures of the ANO,projected into both the real space and momentum space,are distinct in the Kondo singlet phase from that in the superconducting phase.More specifically,in the Kondo singlet phase,the ANO keeps fully active with half-occupied,and the superconducting gap has negligible influence on its structure.On the contrary,in the superconducting phase,the ANO tends to be inactive and its structure changes significantly as the superconducting gap increases.Additionally,our investigation demonstrates that the NORG method is reliable and convenient to solve the quantum impurity problems in superconductors as well,which will promote further theoretical studies on the Kondo problems in such systems using numerical methods. 展开更多

The modern world remains vulnerable to natural disasters,including floods,earthquakes,wildfires,and others.These events remain unpredictable and inevitable,and recovering quickly and effectively requires significant effort and expense.Monitoring is becoming more efficient thanks to technologies such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs),which can access hard-to-reach areas and provide real-time data.However,in disaster-affected areas,these monitoring systems may encounter many obstacles when communicating with servers or transmitting monitored data.This paper proposes an adaptive communication model to overcome the challenges faced in disaster-affected areas.A base station is responsible for collecting data(such as images and videos)captured by UAVs performing surveillance within its communication range.This station is typically a tower providing fixed cellular network service.However,in the absence of such a tower,a selected UAV may serve as the station,depending on the situation.If surveillance needs to be performed outside the coverage area,it can continue to communicate via nearby UAVs through cooperative communication.UAVs with internet support,known as the Internet of Flying Things(IoFT),will also be utilized to enhance communication capacity and efficiency.The proposed communication model is validated through experiments,showing superior data transmission performance and higher throughput.Analysis indicates it outperforms traditional systems,even in rural areas,with or without internet access. 展开更多

Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disorder characterized by reduced bone mass,compromised bone microstructure,and an increased risk of fractures,primarily due to excessive osteoclast-mediated bone resorption relative to osteoblast-mediated bone formation.While current anti-osteoporosis drugs,such as bisphosphonates and denosumab,predominantly focus on reducing bone resorption,osteoanabolic approaches are essential for restoring bone microarchitecture and ultimately reducing fracture risk.Traditional Chinese medicines(TCMs)and their active ingredients have long been used in China for osteoporosis prevention and treatment.This review provides a comprehensive evaluation of the effects and molecular mechanisms of 65 natural products across 24 categories on osteoblast-mediated bone formation.These compounds promote bone formation by regulating key transcription factors(RUNX2 and Osterix)and signaling pathways,including WNT/β-catenin,bone morphogenic protein(BMP),mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK),phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B(PI3K/AKT),oxidative stress,autophagy,and epigenetic regulation.Notably,certain natural products[e.g.,icariin(ICA)]exert their effects through multiple targets and pathways.Many of these natural products have demonstrated significant therapeutic efficacy in animal models,such as ovariectomized(OVX)mice.Our findings suggest that natural products with kidney-tonifying,anti-inflammatory,and antioxidant properties,as well as those inhibiting adipocyte differentiation,may hold promise for osteoporosis treatment.Additionally,we highlight current research gaps and propose future directions,including high-throughput screening and validation in diverse animal models,development of novel bone-targeting delivery systems,and identification of natural compounds targeting osteocytes. 展开更多

Natural product(NPT)derived from traditional Chinese medicine has a rich history as an integral part of Chinese healthcare for thousands of years.Recently,the application of NPT in sonodynamic antibacterial therapy(SDAT)has emerged as a promising area of research.This perspective summarizes the recent NPT-based sonosensitizers in SDAT.Currently,common NPT-based sonosensitizers include curcumin,chlorophyll derivatives,hypericin,and berberine.Compared with other sonosensitizers,natural sources of NPT-based sonosensitizers with reactive oxide species production performance under ultrasound conditions,low biotoxicity,and other additional biological activity make them have application prospects in bacterial removal.Finally,the potential benefits and challenges of NPT-based nanosonosensitizers were also discussed. 展开更多
