Anthropomet...Objective: The study aims to explore the prevalence of hypertension and its impact on Type 2 diabetes in a Mysore population of the Indian subcontinent. Methods: 636 participants volunteered for the study. Anthropometric measurements and blood pressure were recorded while plasma was analyzed for biochemical markers. The IDF and JNC 7 diagnostic criteria were followed to define diabetes and hypertension. Statistical Analyses: One-way analysis of variance, χ2-test and Logistic regression analysis were performed to assess differences of the mean, proportion and the independent effect of hypertension on the development of type 2 diabetes. Results: Hypertension was observed to be prevalent in 37.1% of the studied population with an insignificant gender difference. Rate of occurrence of hypertensives was found to be significantly higher in type 2 diabetes (51.9%), obese subjects (45.2%), long-term smokers (49%) and alcohol addicts (48%) than control groups. The risk of development of diabetes was significantly higher in hypertensives than normotensive. However, when creatinine and blood urea nitrogen were included in the model, the significance was nullified. Conclusions: The prevalence of type 2 diabetes and hypertension is increasing at an alarming rate. This study reveals that the significance of hypertension as a parameter in predicting the risk of type 2 diabetes was influenced by the renal function and lipid profile.展开更多
In the 21st century the fresh water scarcity increased very rapidly due to the urbanization and industrialization process. In these conditions the urban wastewater plays an important role in the water usage criteria. ...In the 21st century the fresh water scarcity increased very rapidly due to the urbanization and industrialization process. In these conditions the urban wastewater plays an important role in the water usage criteria. In this aspect, in all the major cities, wastewater treatment plants have been constructed to treat the urban wastewater in view of decreasing the water scarcity. The presence of nutrients in the wastewater is considered as beneficial to agricultural practices. The contaminants present in the wastewater pose health risks directly to agricultural workers and indirectly to the consumers as the long term application of the wastewater may result in the accumulation of toxic elements in soil and in plants. In this way the heavy metals will circulate among the food chain and food web to cause adverse effects on human health as well as on soil health. In the present study an attempt has been made to study the characteristics of urban wastewater at wastewater treatment plant of Mysore city. And also heavy metal behavior was studied with the analysis of heavy metals in wastewater, Biosolid and receiving soil along with the plants which indicates the uptake of heavy metals.展开更多

To analyse the variations in climatic parameters like Rainfall and Temperature, data were used for a period of 1986-2016, and Humidity data were used for a period of 2000-2016 to study the nature of climate change in the region. The findings of the study show that the climate variability and climate change for Mysore district, the monthly Rainfall is increased and monsoon Rainfall shows a decrease in trend. And the monthly, summer, monsoon minimum Temperature shows that decrease. Generally, the monthly maximum Temperature has decreased, but in case of summer and monsoon seasons increased respectively, and the monthly Relative Humidity has increased (positive). There is a decrease in Relative Humidity from January to April, and increase in the Relative Humidity during Monsoon season for Mysore District.
