Iterative multireference configuration interaction (IMRCI) is proposed. It is exploited to compute the electronic energies of H2O and CH2(singlet and triplet states) at equilibrium and non-equilibrium geometries. The potential energy curves of H2O, CH2(singlet and triplet states) and N2 have also been calculated with IMRCI as well as the M?ller Plesset perturbation theory (MP2, MP3, and MP4), the coupled cluster method with single and double substitutions (CCSD), and CCSD with perturbative triples correction (CCSD(T)).These calculations demonstrate that IMRCI results are independent of the initial guess of configuration functions in the reference space and converge quickly to the results of the full configuration interaction. The IMRCI errors relative to the full configuration interaction results are at the order of magnitude of 10-5 hartree within just 2-4 iterations. Further,IMRCI provides an efficient way to find on the potential energy surface the leading electron configurations which, as correct reference states, will be very helpful for the single-reference and multireference theoretical models to obtain accurate results. 展开更多

The potential energy curves (PECs) of the ground state (^3∏) and three low-lying excited states (^1∑, ^3∑,^1∏) of CdSe dimer have been studied by employing quasirelativistic effective core potentials on the basis of the complete active space self-consistent field method followed by multireference configuration interaction calculation. The four PECs are fitted to analytical potential energy functions using the Murrel-Sorbie potential function. Based on the PECs, the vibrational levels of the four states are determined by solving the Schrodinger equation of nuclear motion, and corresponding spectroscopic constants are accurately calculated. The equilibrium positions as well as the spectroscopic constants and the vibrational levels are reported. By our analysis, the ^3∏ state, of which the dissociation asymptote is Cd(^1S) + Se(^3p), is identified as a ground state of CdSe dimer, and the corresponding dissociation energy is estimated to be 0.39eV. However, the first excited state is only 1132.49cm^-1 above the ground state and the ^3∑ state is the highest in the four calculated states. 展开更多

The size consistency of the second and third order energies of the multireference perturbation theory(Chen F, Davidson E, Iwata S. Int J Quant Chem, 2002, 86: 256) is investigated theoretically with a su-per-molecular model composed of N-hydrogen molecules separated by a large distance. It is found that the two perturbation series corresponding to two Hamiltonian partitions are not size consistent at the second and third order. However, two size consistent forms are suggested for two Hamiltonian parti-tions at the second order, if some approximations to the denominators of the original second order energies are assumed. 展开更多

The performances of several multireference electronic structure methods including complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF)-based second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2), multireference configuration interaction with single and double excitations (MR-CISD), MR-CISD with the Davidson correction (MR-CISD+Q), and the CASSCF-based block-correlated coupled cluster method (CAS-BCCC4) we developed recently are compared by applying them to study several different chemical problems involving computation of ground state potential energy surfaces, the singlet-triplet gaps in diradicals, reaction barriers, and the excitation energies of low-lying excited states. Comparison with the results from other highly accurate theoretical methods or the available experimental data demonstrate that for all the problems studied, the overall performance of CAS-BCCC4 is competitive with that of MR-CISD+Q, and better than that of CASPT2 and MR-CISD methods. Thus the CAS-BCCC4 approach is expected to be a promising theoretical method for quantitative descriptions of the electronic structures of molecules with noticeable multireference character. 展开更多

The potential energy curves, spectroscopic constants, and low-lying vibration–rotation levels of ground-state O2 and its cation O2+ and anion O2- were calculated with the explicitly correlated multireference configuration interaction method. The zeroth-order reference wavefunction was treated with the complete active space multiconfigurational self-consistent field method, in which the active space was carefully selected, and an additional molecular orbital πu was added into the full valence active space. The electron correlation of the 1s core in the oxygen atom was considered in the computations. The Davidson correction on molecular energy was considered to account for higher electron excitation. The relativistic effects, including the scalar relativistic effect and spin–orbit coupling, were considered in the computation of potential energy curves. These physical effects on the spectroscopic constants were examined. The low-lying levels of vibration–rotation spectra of O2 and its ions were determined based on the computed potential energy curves.Comparisons with available experiments were made and excellent agreement was obtained for the vibrational and rotational parameters. The spectroscopic constants and vibration–rotation spectrum of O2-, which is sparse in experiments, were provided. Our study will shed some light on further theoretical and experimental studies on these simple but important molecular systems. 展开更多

A multireference configuration interaction (MRCI) study has been carried out on the LiCl molecule. The potential energy has been calculated over a wide range of internuclear separation for the 21 low-lying electronic states of the LiCl molecule dissociating into Li (^2S, ^2p, ^3S)+Cl (^2p). The (4)^1∑^+, (3)∏, 1-3^3∑^+, 1-3^3∏, 1,3Δ, ^1,3∑^-, (5)^1∑^+,(4)^3∑^+, (4)^3∏, (4)^3∏ excited states are studied for the first time in theory. Molecular spectroscopic constants .(Re, De,ωe, ωeΧe,Be and αe) have been derived for the 9 bound states (X^1∑^+, (3)^1∑^+, (2)^3∑^+, ^1,3Δ, ^1,3∑^-, (4)^∏, (4)^3∏) with a regular shape, and the spectroscopic constants of ground states X^1 ∑^+ are in good agreement with available experimental and theoretical values. The relative differences between experimental values and our values for Re, De, ωe, ωeΧe, Be and α3 are 1.02%, 0.60%, 1.72%, 9.46%, 2.0%, and 0.75%, respectively. Moreover, vibrational levels of 9 bound states, which have not been investigated experimentally, are computed. 展开更多

This paper calculates the potential energy curves (PECs) of the ground state (X^1∑^+) and excited state (A^1∑^+) of SeN molecule by multireference configuration interaction method. The correct character of the PECs has been gripped while they had been improperly reported in the literature. Based on the PECs, the spectroscopic parameters and vibrational energy levels are determined, and compared with experimental data and other theoretical works available at the present. 展开更多

The practical efficiency of singlet fission(SF)-based photovoltaic devices is still far from satisfactory due to the limited scope of SF materials suitable for device application and the scarcity of schemes available for triplet utilization. Most SF materials identi-fied to date are typically electron donors while acceptor-type SF materials remain largely unexplored.Basically, the combination of a conventional electron donor and SF-active electron acceptor could circumvent the competitive energy transfer channel and better play the unique advantages of the SF process, which might be an adequate alternative for practical application. In this work,we presented a new acceptor-type SF material based on a tetracyanothienoquinoid skeleton.Such a quinoid skeleton exhibited strong absorption, ultrafast SF process, and excellent stability.Using transient spectroscopy and multireference calculations(XDWCASPT2),the SF dynamics were examined featuring the rapid generation and subsequent annihilation and/or partial dissociation of multiexciton states. Therefore, our results not only provide a robust acceptor-type SF material but also suggest an adequate donor–acceptor alternative for SF-based solar cells, which could pave the way for the practical application of such a potential process. 展开更多
