By now, scholars have agreed that effective organizations do not have the luxury to choose between the "applications" of intuitive or rational decision making. Instead, they try to understand how different factors like personality traits and problem characteristics influence the decision-making process. Reviewing the literature reveals that personality pre-determination and the structure of problems (e.g., well-structured problems (WSPs) versus ill-structured problems (ISPs)) seem to have a significant impact on the decision-making efficiency. Further, the review also shows that there is a lack of application-oriented empirical studies in this area of research. Therefore, the aim of this research paper is to propose a framework for an empirical study on how personality traits and problem structure influence the decision-making process. First, hypotheses are derived from the literature on how personality pre-determination and behavioral patterns in the decision-making process lead to higher socioeconomic efficiency within certain problem categories. Second, a causal model and a setup for a laboratory experiment are proposed to allow testing the hypotheses. Finally, the conclusions provide an outlook on how this research could support organizations in their decision-making processes.展开更多

Generally, it means selecting the optimal weapon system among many alternatives, which is a multiple- attribute decision making (MADM) problem. This paper proposes a new mathematical model based on the response surface method (RSM) and the grey relational analysis (GRA). RSM is used to obtain the experimental points and analyze the factors that have a significant impact on the selection results. GRA is used to an- alyze the trend relationship between alternatives and reference series. And then an RSM model is obtained, which can be used to calculate all alternatives and obtain ranking results. A real world application is introduced to illustrate the utilization of the model for the weapon selection problem. The results show that this model can be used to help decision-makers to make a quick comparison of alternatives and select a proper weapon system from multiple alternatives, which is an effective and adaptable method for solving the weapon system selection problem.展开更多

Decision-making is the act of choosing between two or more courses of action. In the wider process of problem-solving, decision-making involves choosing between possible solutions to a problem, and these decisions can be made through either an intuitive or reasoned process, or a combination of the two. The study of decision-making processes, to be understood as the role of human factors, becomes particularly interesting in complex organizations. This research aims to analyze how an effective team, within organizations, can develop a more correct and effective decision-making, in order to get an optimal solution, overcoming the typical uncertainty. To make the information axiom fit to MADM problems, the original computation method for the information content is improved by increasing the satisfaction degree item. Attribute values are divided into precise type, uncertainty type and fuzzy type. For benefit, cost, fixation, and interval type attributes, the computation methods for the information content on the three types of attribute values are presented. The improved information content can reflect the system success probability and the decision-maker satisfaction degree simultaneously and evaluate the MADM problem including multiple type attribute values. Finally, as a case study, the facility layout alternatives of a welding assembly workshop are evaluated. The result verifies the validity and the feasibility of the improved information axiom on the MADM problems.展开更多

The algorithm inherits many features of the current state-of-the-art SAT solvers, such as fast BCP, clause recording, restarts, etc. In addition, a preconditioning step that calculates the polarities of variables according to the cover distribution of Karnaugh map is introduced into DPLL procedure, which greatly reduces the number of conflicts in the search process. The proposed approach is implemented as a SAT solver named DiffSat. Experiments show that DiffSat can solve many "real-life" instances in a reasonable time while the best existing SAT solvers, such as Zchaff and MiniSat, cannot. In particular, DiffSat can solve every instance of Bart benchmark suite in less than 0.03 s while Zchaff and MiniSat fail under a 900 s time limit. Furthermore, DiffSat even outperforms the outstanding incomplete algorithm DLM in some instances.展开更多

Also, it is not always possible to find the exact values of the input data and related parameters due to incomplete or unavailable information. This work aims at developing a model that solves a multi objective distribution programming problem involving imprecise available supply, forecast demand, budget and unit cost/ profit coefficients with triangular possibility distributions. This algorithm aims to simultaneously minimize cost and maximize profit with reference to available supply constraint at each source, forecast demand constraint at each destination and budget constraint. An example is given to demonstrate the functioning of this algorithm.展开更多
