This study presents a drone-based aerial imaging method for automated rice seedling detection and counting in paddy fields.Utilizing a drone equipped with a high-resolution camera,images are captured 14 days postsowin...This study presents a drone-based aerial imaging method for automated rice seedling detection and counting in paddy fields.Utilizing a drone equipped with a high-resolution camera,images are captured 14 days postsowing at a consistent altitude of six meters,employing autonomous flight for uniform data acquisition.The approach effectively addresses the distinct growth patterns of both single and clustered rice seedlings at this early stage.The methodology follows a two-step process:first,the GoogleNet deep learning network identifies the location and center points of rice plants.Then,the U-Net deep learning network performs classification and counting of individual plants and clusters.This combination of deep learning models achieved a 90%accuracy rate in classifying and counting both single and clustered seedlings.To validate the method’s effectiveness,results were compared against traditional manual counting conducted by agricultural experts.The comparison revealed minimal discrepancies,with a variance of only 2–4 clumps per square meter,confirming the reliability of the proposed method.This automated approach offers significant benefits by providing an efficient,accurate,and scalable solution for monitoring seedling growth.It enables farmers to optimize fertilizer and pesticide application,improve resource allocation,and enhance overall crop management,ultimately contributing to increased agricultural productivity.展开更多

Starting with the w...In order to achieve high accuracy measurement for non-landing vehicle-mounted photoelectric theodolite(NVPT) with continuous zoom optical system, a theoretical model of pointing error is presented. Starting with the working mode, the error source of the whole closed loop which affects the pointing error is analyzed. The measurement equation is derived using a coordinate transformation. The pointing error model is then obtained with the help of Monte Carlo method. The error of an NVPT prototype is measured, showing that the pointing error can be predicted accurately. A high precision NVPT with continuous zoom optical system is successfully designed and analyzed, with an accuracy of 11.9″ at azimuth and 10.9″ at elevation, when the optical focal length is set between 1 000 mm and 4 000 mm.展开更多

In this paper, the problem of retrieving containers from a yard in a given sequence is discussed as an important part of the ship-loading process. This problem is divided into three categories according to its optimization complexity, i.e., the retrieval problem of a crane with a single spreader(ACSS), the retrieval problem of a crane with multiple spreaders(ACMS), and the retrieval problem of multiple cranes with a single spreader(MCSS). Firstly, heuristic algorithms are proposed to develop a retrieving sequence for ACSS to reduce the operational time. Then, optimizing the assignment to multiple spreaders is conducted by exchanging the movements of the obtained retrieving sequence. Finally, the movements are further assigned to two cranes and integrated with the MCSS retrieval problem mentioned above.The numerical experiments show the effectiveness and practicability of the heuristic algorithms.展开更多

Virtual reality te...Driving a vehicle is one of the most common daily yet hazardous tasks. One of the great interests in recent research is to characterize a driver’s behaviors through the use of a driving simulation. Virtual reality technology is now a promising alternative to the conventional driving simulations since it provides a more simple, secure and user-friendly environment for data collection. The driving simulator was used to assist novice drivers in learning how to drive in a very calm environment since the driving is not taking place on an actual road. This paper provides new insights regarding a driver’s behavior, techniques and adaptability within a driving simulation using virtual reality technology. The theoretical framework of this driving simulation has been designed using the Unity3D game engine (5.4.0f3 version) and programmed by the C# programming language. To make the driving simulation environment more realistic, the HTC Vive Virtual reality headset, powered by Steamvr, was used. 10 volunteers ranging from ages 19 - 37 participated in the virtual reality driving experiment. Matlab R2016b was used to analyze the data obtained from experiment. This research results are crucial for training drivers and obtaining insight on a driver’s behavior and characteristics. We have gathered diverse results for 10 drivers with different characteristics to be discussed in this study. Driving simulations are not easy to use for some users due to motion sickness, difficulties in adopting to a virtual environment. Furthermore, results of this study clearly show the performance of drivers is closely associated with individual’s behavior and adaptability to the driving simulator. Based on our findings, it can be said that with a VR-HMD (Virtual Reality-Head Mounted Display) Driving Simulator enables us to evaluate a driver’s “performance error”, “recognition errors” and “decision error”. All of which will allow researchers and further studies to potentially establish a method to increase driver safety or alleviate “driving errors”.展开更多

The principle is that the interactive information and the shape information are conveyed to users when they touch virtual objects at mobile terminals by attaching the vibrotactile feedback on a fingertip. The extraction of shape characteristics, the interactive information and the mapping of shape in formation of vibration stimulation are key parts of the proposed algorithm to realize the real tactile rendering. The contact status of the interaction process, the height information and local gradient of the touch point are regarded as shape information and used to control the vibration intension, rhythm and distribution of the vibrators. With different contact status and shape information, the vibration pattern can be adjusted in time to imitate the outlines of virtual objects. Finally, the effectiveness of the algorithm is verified by shape perception experiments. The results show that the improved algorithm is effective for 3D shape haptic rendering.展开更多

The results show that temperature cycling history has significant effect on the stress response of the solder joint. Based on the concept of relative damage stress proposed by the authors, it is found that enough high temperature holding time is necessary for designing the temperature cycling profile in accelerated thermal fatigue test.展开更多

Although several studies have shown that overhead flashing beacons are effective, some concerns have been raised about drive...Agencies in Iowa have utilized both overhead flashing beacons and stop-sign mounted beacons. Although several studies have shown that overhead flashing beacons are effective, some concerns have been raised about driver confusion. The main concern is that a driver may interpret a multiface flashing beacon with a red indication for their approach as an all-way stop control. As a result, the Iowa DOT has been advocating use of stop-sign mounted beacons rather than overhead flashing beacons. Since little information is available about this countermeasure, data for intersections with (treatment) and without (control) stop-sign mounted beacons were identified and a cross-sectional analysis conducted (due to few confirmable installation dates). Rural stop-controlled intersections with stop-sign mounted beacons in Iowa (USA) were identified (40 in total). Intersection characteristics such as number of approaches, intersection angle etc. were extracted. Additionally, characteristics of individual approaches such as roadway surface (gravel/paved), advanced stop-sign rumble strips, and advance signing were recorded. One or more control locations were manually selected for each treatment intersection based on matching roadway configuration, presence of lighting, advance stop line rumble strips, number of approaches, channelization, traffic volume, and proximity. Propensity scores were estimated to match 40 control locations for comparison. Negative binomial models for different injury combinations at nighttime and daytime were developed with an indicator variable for presence and absence of stop-sign mounted beacons. Presence of stop-sign mounted beacons was associated with a 5% - 54% reduction in nighttime crashes. Injury nighttime crashes decreased by 54% and total nighttime crashes reduced by 18%.展开更多
This paper studies the viscid and inviscid fluid resonance in gaps of bottom mounted caissons onthe basis of the plane wave hypothesis and full wave model, The theoretical analysis and the numerical results demonstrat...This paper studies the viscid and inviscid fluid resonance in gaps of bottom mounted caissons onthe basis of the plane wave hypothesis and full wave model, The theoretical analysis and the numerical results demonstrate that the condition for the appearance of fluid resonance in narrow gaps is kh=(2n+1)π (n=0, 1, 2, 3 ), rather than kh=nn (n=0, 1, 2, 3, ...); the transmission peaks in viscid fluid are related to the resonance peaks in the gaps. k and h stand for the wave number and the gap length. The combination of the plane wave hypothesis or the full wave model with the local viscosity model can accurately determine the heights and the locations of the resonance peaks. The upper bound for the appearance of fluid resonance in gaps is 2b/L〈l (2b, grating constant; L, wave length) and the lower bound is h/b〈~ l. The main reason for the phase shift of the resonance peaks is the inductive factors. The number of resonance peaks in the spectrum curve is dependent on the ratio of the gap length to the grating constant. The heights and the positions of the resonance peaks predicted by the present models agree well with the experimental data.展开更多

In common HMD, however, the binocular disparity is set to an equal fixed value in the entire range of view. Such HMD systems have several shortcomings when used for wide views. In this study, in order to realize a natural stereo sensation of HMD with wide view, we measure the characteristics of binocular stereo perception and binocular light perception. Results show that both the stereoacuity and light sensitivity decrease as the retina's eccentricity increases from fovea to periphery. However, the decrease of the stereoacuity is more rapid than that of the light sensitivity. These results suggest that the binocular disparity at the peripheral field should be small, otherwise double images would be observed instead of a stereo view. Based on the results we develop a relative binocular stereoacuity model which can be applied for the design of HMD systems with wide view.展开更多
In this paper,a solidly mounted resonator(SMR)was designed with nanocrystalline diamond(NCD)as the high acoustic impedance material of Bragg reflector to improve the quality.We used Mathcad to investigate the effect o...In this paper,a solidly mounted resonator(SMR)was designed with nanocrystalline diamond(NCD)as the high acoustic impedance material of Bragg reflector to improve the quality.We used Mathcad to investigate the effect of the Bragg reflector on the performance of the SMR,as well as the influence of different materials and the number of layers of Bragg reflector on the quality factor Q.Results show that the Bragg reflector could reduce energy loss effectively,and the higher the impedance of the high acoustic impedance layer,the better the SMR.The parasitic factors of the SMR using two high acoustic impedance materials,tungsten(W)and NCD,were also simulated by an Advanced Design System(ADS)using the Mason model.It was found that the parasitic effect caused by metal would significantly decrease the Q factor of the SMR.In the frequency range below 6 GHz,within which the SMR works normally,NCD performed better than W.Therefore,NCD is a better choice of high acoustic impedance material in the design of the SMR,with improved quality at high frequency and low loss.The optimum number of layers of Bragg reflector is 6.展开更多

In the first model;the DC (Direct Clutch) connects two gears together. This gives no change in the set torque (the set output torque equal to the set input torque). In the second model;the ODB (Over Drive Brake) fixes one element of the planetary set. This is resulting, the gear set gives reduction ratio (the set output torque is not equal to the set input torque). So, the transmission input shaft is worked under two different working operating conditions of torque. Also, it is loaded by a two vertical loads which are coming from the turbine and planetary set loads respectively. They are shown that there are three critical combinations of forces (contact force, shear force, and normal force) applied on the input shaft. The critical forces can be possibility exist three types of cracks for the input shaft cross section they are: transverse (torsion stress), longitudinal (bending stress), and vertical (shear stress). Background Virtual Reality(VR)technologies have advanced fast and have been applied to a wide spectrum of sectors in the past few years.VR can provide an immersive experience to users by generating virtual images and ...Background Virtual Reality(VR)technologies have advanced fast and have been applied to a wide spectrum of sectors in the past few years.VR can provide an immersive experience to users by generating virtual images and displaying the virtual images to the user with a head-mounted display(HMD)which is a primary component of VR.Normally,an HMD contains a list of hardware components,e.g.,housing pack,micro LCD display,microcontroller,optical lens,etc.Settings of VR HMD to accommodate the user's inter-pupil distance(IPD)and the user's eye focus power are important for the user's experience with VR.Methods Although various methods have been developed towards IPD and focus adjustments for VR HMD,the increased cost and complexity impede the possibility for users who wish to assemble their own VR HMD for various purposes,e.g.,DIY teaching,etc.In our paper,we present a novel design towards building a customizable and adjustable HMD for VR in a cost-effective manner.Modular design methodology is adopted,and the VR HMD can be easily printed with 3D printers.The design also features adjustable IPD and variable distance between the optical lens and the display.It can help to mitigate the vergence and accommodation conflict issue.Results A prototype of the customizable and adjustable VR HMD has been successfully built up with off-the-shelf components.A VR software program running on Raspberry Pi board has been developed and can be utilized to show the VR effects.A user study with 20 participants is conducted with positive feedback on our novel design.Conclusions Modular design can be successfully applied for building up VR HMD with 3D printing.It helps to promote the wide application of VR at affordable costs while featuring flexibility and adjustability.展开更多

In this paper, the problem of retrieving containers from a yard in a given sequence is discussed as an important part of the ship-loading process. This problem is divided into three categories according to its optimization complexity, i.e., the retrieval problem of a crane with a single spreader(ACSS), the retrieval problem of a crane with multiple spreaders(ACMS), and the retrieval problem of multiple cranes with a single spreader(MCSS). Firstly, heuristic algorithms are proposed to develop a retrieving sequence for ACSS to reduce the operational time. Then, optimizing the assignment to multiple spreaders is conducted by exchanging the movements of the obtained retrieving sequence. Finally, the movements are further assigned to two cranes and integrated with the MCSS retrieval problem mentioned above.The numerical experiments show the effectiveness and practicability of the heuristic algorithms.
文摘Driving a vehicle is one of the most common daily yet hazardous tasks. One of the great interests in recent research is to characterize a driver’s behaviors through the use of a driving simulation. Virtual reality technology is now a promising alternative to the conventional driving simulations since it provides a more simple, secure and user-friendly environment for data collection. The driving simulator was used to assist novice drivers in learning how to drive in a very calm environment since the driving is not taking place on an actual road. This paper provides new insights regarding a driver’s behavior, techniques and adaptability within a driving simulation using virtual reality technology. The theoretical framework of this driving simulation has been designed using the Unity3D game engine (5.4.0f3 version) and programmed by the C# programming language. To make the driving simulation environment more realistic, the HTC Vive Virtual reality headset, powered by Steamvr, was used. 10 volunteers ranging from ages 19 - 37 participated in the virtual reality driving experiment. Matlab R2016b was used to analyze the data obtained from experiment. This research results are crucial for training drivers and obtaining insight on a driver’s behavior and characteristics. We have gathered diverse results for 10 drivers with different characteristics to be discussed in this study. Driving simulations are not easy to use for some users due to motion sickness, difficulties in adopting to a virtual environment. Furthermore, results of this study clearly show the performance of drivers is closely associated with individual’s behavior and adaptability to the driving simulator. Based on our findings, it can be said that with a VR-HMD (Virtual Reality-Head Mounted Display) Driving Simulator enables us to evaluate a driver’s “performance error”, “recognition errors” and “decision error”. All of which will allow researchers and further studies to potentially establish a method to increase driver safety or alleviate “driving errors”.

文摘With the air gap magnetic field distribution of surface mounted permanent magnet (PM) motors obtained using an analytical technique, the instantaneous electromagnetic torque and its corresponding components are investigated with the Maxwell stress tensor method. Accurate results can easily be achieved using the proposed method without using the tedious finite element analysis (FEA). In this paper, the electromagnetic torque of a surface mounted PM motor with two phases energized is decomposed into four torque components. This technique is useful not only for the design and optimization of the permanent magnet motor, but also for the choice of control strategy.

文摘To improve the sense of reality on perception, an improved algorithm of 3D shape haptic rendering is put forward based on a finger mounted vibrotactile device. The principle is that the interactive information and the shape information are conveyed to users when they touch virtual objects at mobile terminals by attaching the vibrotactile feedback on a fingertip. The extraction of shape characteristics, the interactive information and the mapping of shape in formation of vibration stimulation are key parts of the proposed algorithm to realize the real tactile rendering. The contact status of the interaction process, the height information and local gradient of the touch point are regarded as shape information and used to control the vibration intension, rhythm and distribution of the vibrators. With different contact status and shape information, the vibration pattern can be adjusted in time to imitate the outlines of virtual objects. Finally, the effectiveness of the algorithm is verified by shape perception experiments. The results show that the improved algorithm is effective for 3D shape haptic rendering.
文摘Nonlinear finite element simulation for mechanical response of surface mounted solder joint under different temperature cycling was carried out. Seven sets of parameters were used in order to evaluate the influence of temperature cycling profile parameters. The results show that temperature cycling history has significant effect on the stress response of the solder joint. Based on the concept of relative damage stress proposed by the authors, it is found that enough high temperature holding time is necessary for designing the temperature cycling profile in accelerated thermal fatigue test.
文摘Agencies in Iowa have utilized both overhead flashing beacons and stop-sign mounted beacons. Although several studies have shown that overhead flashing beacons are effective, some concerns have been raised about driver confusion. The main concern is that a driver may interpret a multiface flashing beacon with a red indication for their approach as an all-way stop control. As a result, the Iowa DOT has been advocating use of stop-sign mounted beacons rather than overhead flashing beacons. Since little information is available about this countermeasure, data for intersections with (treatment) and without (control) stop-sign mounted beacons were identified and a cross-sectional analysis conducted (due to few confirmable installation dates). Rural stop-controlled intersections with stop-sign mounted beacons in Iowa (USA) were identified (40 in total). Intersection characteristics such as number of approaches, intersection angle etc. were extracted. Additionally, characteristics of individual approaches such as roadway surface (gravel/paved), advanced stop-sign rumble strips, and advance signing were recorded. One or more control locations were manually selected for each treatment intersection based on matching roadway configuration, presence of lighting, advance stop line rumble strips, number of approaches, channelization, traffic volume, and proximity. Propensity scores were estimated to match 40 control locations for comparison. Negative binomial models for different injury combinations at nighttime and daytime were developed with an indicator variable for presence and absence of stop-sign mounted beacons. Presence of stop-sign mounted beacons was associated with a 5% - 54% reduction in nighttime crashes. Injury nighttime crashes decreased by 54% and total nighttime crashes reduced by 18%.

文摘This paper studies the viscid and inviscid fluid resonance in gaps of bottom mounted caissons onthe basis of the plane wave hypothesis and full wave model, The theoretical analysis and the numerical results demonstrate that the condition for the appearance of fluid resonance in narrow gaps is kh=(2n+1)π (n=0, 1, 2, 3 ), rather than kh=nn (n=0, 1, 2, 3, ...); the transmission peaks in viscid fluid are related to the resonance peaks in the gaps. k and h stand for the wave number and the gap length. The combination of the plane wave hypothesis or the full wave model with the local viscosity model can accurately determine the heights and the locations of the resonance peaks. The upper bound for the appearance of fluid resonance in gaps is 2b/L〈l (2b, grating constant; L, wave length) and the lower bound is h/b〈~ l. The main reason for the phase shift of the resonance peaks is the inductive factors. The number of resonance peaks in the spectrum curve is dependent on the ratio of the gap length to the grating constant. The heights and the positions of the resonance peaks predicted by the present models agree well with the experimental data.

文摘Under the assumption of potential flow and linear wave theory, a semi-analytic method based on eigenfunciton expansion is proposed to predict the hydrody-namic forces on an array of three bottom-mounted, surface-piercing circular cylinders. The responses of the cylinders induced by wave excitation are determined by the equa-tions of motion coupled with the solutions of the wave radiation and diffraction problems. Experiments for three-cylinder cases are then designed and performed in a wave flume to determine the accuracy of this method for regular waves.
文摘The head mounted display (HMD) is widely used in virtual reality technology. In common HMD, however, the binocular disparity is set to an equal fixed value in the entire range of view. Such HMD systems have several shortcomings when used for wide views. In this study, in order to realize a natural stereo sensation of HMD with wide view, we measure the characteristics of binocular stereo perception and binocular light perception. Results show that both the stereoacuity and light sensitivity decrease as the retina's eccentricity increases from fovea to periphery. However, the decrease of the stereoacuity is more rapid than that of the light sensitivity. These results suggest that the binocular disparity at the peripheral field should be small, otherwise double images would be observed instead of a stereo view. Based on the results we develop a relative binocular stereoacuity model which can be applied for the design of HMD systems with wide view.

文摘In this paper,a solidly mounted resonator(SMR)was designed with nanocrystalline diamond(NCD)as the high acoustic impedance material of Bragg reflector to improve the quality.We used Mathcad to investigate the effect of the Bragg reflector on the performance of the SMR,as well as the influence of different materials and the number of layers of Bragg reflector on the quality factor Q.Results show that the Bragg reflector could reduce energy loss effectively,and the higher the impedance of the high acoustic impedance layer,the better the SMR.The parasitic factors of the SMR using two high acoustic impedance materials,tungsten(W)and NCD,were also simulated by an Advanced Design System(ADS)using the Mason model.It was found that the parasitic effect caused by metal would significantly decrease the Q factor of the SMR.In the frequency range below 6 GHz,within which the SMR works normally,NCD performed better than W.Therefore,NCD is a better choice of high acoustic impedance material in the design of the SMR,with improved quality at high frequency and low loss.The optimum number of layers of Bragg reflector is 6.
文摘In the present paper;two models of the input shaft for a Longitudinal Mounted four Speed Automotive Automatic Transmission for the first time were introduced to describe the input shaft critical loads. In the first model;the DC (Direct Clutch) connects two gears together. This gives no change in the set torque (the set output torque equal to the set input torque). In the second model;the ODB (Over Drive Brake) fixes one element of the planetary set. This is resulting, the gear set gives reduction ratio (the set output torque is not equal to the set input torque). So, the transmission input shaft is worked under two different working operating conditions of torque. Also, it is loaded by a two vertical loads which are coming from the turbine and planetary set loads respectively. They are shown that there are three critical combinations of forces (contact force, shear force, and normal force) applied on the input shaft. The critical forces can be possibility exist three types of cracks for the input shaft cross section they are: transverse (torsion stress), longitudinal (bending stress), and vertical (shear stress). The three cracks are studied in this article. The article considers three stress factors: shearing torsion stress, shear stress, and bending stress.

文摘Background Virtual Reality(VR)technologies have advanced fast and have been applied to a wide spectrum of sectors in the past few years.VR can provide an immersive experience to users by generating virtual images and displaying the virtual images to the user with a head-mounted display(HMD)which is a primary component of VR.Normally,an HMD contains a list of hardware components,e.g.,housing pack,micro LCD display,microcontroller,optical lens,etc.Settings of VR HMD to accommodate the user's inter-pupil distance(IPD)and the user's eye focus power are important for the user's experience with VR.Methods Although various methods have been developed towards IPD and focus adjustments for VR HMD,the increased cost and complexity impede the possibility for users who wish to assemble their own VR HMD for various purposes,e.g.,DIY teaching,etc.In our paper,we present a novel design towards building a customizable and adjustable HMD for VR in a cost-effective manner.Modular design methodology is adopted,and the VR HMD can be easily printed with 3D printers.The design also features adjustable IPD and variable distance between the optical lens and the display.It can help to mitigate the vergence and accommodation conflict issue.Results A prototype of the customizable and adjustable VR HMD has been successfully built up with off-the-shelf components.A VR software program running on Raspberry Pi board has been developed and can be utilized to show the VR effects.A user study with 20 participants is conducted with positive feedback on our novel design.Conclusions Modular design can be successfully applied for building up VR HMD with 3D printing.It helps to promote the wide application of VR at affordable costs while featuring flexibility and adjustability.
文摘The paper presents a mathematical multibody model of a soft mounted induction motor with sleeve bearings regarding forced vibrations caused by dynamic rotor eccentricities considering electromagnetic field damping. The multibody model contains the mass of the stator, rotor, shaft journals and bearing housings, the electromagnetic forces with respect of electromagnetic field damping, stiffness and internal (rotating) damping of the rotor, different kinds of dynamic rotor eccentricity, stiffness and damping of the bearing housings and end shields, stiffness and damping of the oil film of the sleeve bearings and stiffness and damping of the foundation. With this multibody model, the bearing housing vibrations and the relative shaft vibrations in the sleeve bearings can be derived.
文摘The paper presents a theoretical analysis of different vibration control strategies of soft mounted induction motors with sleeve bearings, using active motor foot mounts. After the vibration model is presented, different controllers in combination with different feedback strategies are mathematically investigated. The focus is here on the forced vibrations, caused by dynamic rotor eccentricity—rotor mass eccentricity, magnetic eccentricity and bent rotor deflection. After the mathematically coherences are described, a numerical example is shown, where the forced vibrations caused by bent rotor deflection are investigated, for different control strategies, where the mass matrix, the stiffness matrix and the damping matrix are influenced by different control parameters. The aim of the paper is to show the mathematically coherences and the possibility to influence the vibration behaviour, by different control strategies to optimize the vibration behaviour of soft mounted induction motors.
