Motivating is the most creative phase of the Production-Oriented Approach(POA),making it different from other teaching approaches from the outset.This study aims to introduce the theory of motivating and its applicati...Motivating is the most creative phase of the Production-Oriented Approach(POA),making it different from other teaching approaches from the outset.This study aims to introduce the theory of motivating and its application to College English teaching practice by adopting dialectal research(DR).First,it gives an overall introduction to motivating,including its function,steps,and categories.Then it demonstrates two rounds of motivating practice in teaching College English by using the POA-based textbook iEnglish.The first round of motivating practice mainly focuses on how to follow the three steps of motivating in a specific case,namely,the teacher providing scenarios,the students trying out the productive activity,and the teacher explaining the productive objectives.The second round attempts to apply the criteria of motivating effectiveness to practice,namely,authentic communication,cognitive challenges and appropriate productive objectives.Furthermore,the teaching effectiveness of the motivating practice is appraised by both the teacher’s and students’retrospective evaluations.Finally,some suggestions for motivating design and future research are proposed.展开更多

Today, majority of employees still practice a more or less self-protective strategy. In this paper the authors have reported the results of an empirical study of factors motivating degreed potential employees to move to self-enterprising. The deciding factors to become an entrepreneur and of sustainable employment-oriented factors are analyzed in order to discover how they differ. Participants consisted of 200 students from Malaysia entered final year of business undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Self-administered questionnaires were used to gather data on factors and types of relationships influencing career choice and entrepreneurial intention. The results will serve as a basis for improvement of employment practices and promising entrepreneurial curriculum in universities to support start-ups in creating sustainable businesses.展开更多

These challenges can deter individuals from ...Background: Orthodontic treatment poses challenges such as discomfort, aesthetic concerns, dietary restrictions, time commitment, and financial considerations for patients. These challenges can deter individuals from pursuing treatment or cause anxiety during the process. However, patients are motivated by the desire to improve their appearance, boost self-confidence, and enhance oral health. They also value the long-term benefits of treatment, including improved dental function and overall well-being. Professional recommendations from dentists and orthodontists, along with social support from family and friends, further encourage patients to undergo treatment. Understanding these challenges and motivating factors is crucial for orthodontic professionals to tailor treatment plans and ensure positive experiences and successful outcomes for their patients. Objective: To determine the challenges and motivating factors of orthodontic treatment among patients attending Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Method: The study was conducted at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, Ghana, with a sample size of 60 orthodontic patients. Data was collected using self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS software. Ethical approval was obtained, and the findings were shared with stakeholders. Results: Findings showed a higher representation of females (63.3%) seeking orthodontic treatment. Common motivations for seeking orthodontic treatment included aesthetic Concerns (38.2%), misaligned teeth (28.1%) and recommendation from dentist (19.2%). Challenges reported included pain and discomfort (36.7%), difficulty chewing (15%), expensive treatment (14.4%) and missed appointments (11.7%). Factors motivating treatment continuation were visible improvements (30%), achieving optimal results (23%), reducing pain and discomfort (17%). External influences, such as family pressure, also played a role. Patients appreciated the support of healthcare providers during treatment but suggested better pain management and education. Conclusion: The study provided valuable insights into patient motivations, challenges and factors influencing satisfaction and adherence to orthodontic treatment at KATH.展开更多

EFL refusal data were collected using a written data collection test (DCT), which was designed and then followed by semi-structured interviews. Using semantic formulas as units of analysis, EFL refusal responses were compared with similar data elicited from native speakers of English. The results show two areas in which sociocultural transfer is existent in EFL learners' speech: options of selecting semantic formulas and content of semantic formulas. Each was found to reflect cultural values transferred from Chinese to English. Furthermore, based on the interview data, it was found that learners' social system and political factors, traditional socio-psychological ideology and economy possibly motivate sociocultural transfer.展开更多

Background:Music has proven to be vital in enhancing resilience and promotingwell-being.Previously,the impact of music in sports environments was solely investigated,while this paper applies it to study environments,s...Background:Music has proven to be vital in enhancing resilience and promotingwell-being.Previously,the impact of music in sports environments was solely investigated,while this paper applies it to study environments,standing out as pioneering research.The study consists of a systematic development of a conceptual framework based on theories of Uses and Gratification Expectancy(UGE)and perceived motivation based on music elements.Their components are observed variables influencing students’psychological well-being(as the dependent variable).Resilience is examined as a mediator,influencing the relationships of both observed and dependent variables.The main purpose of this study is to highlight the positive effects of online music consumption on the psychological well-being of students.Methods:Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with eighteen final year creative multimedia undergraduate students belonging to five central region Malaysian universities,especially on their UGE needs,and a similar concept survey instrument with two hundred participants.The interview data were analysed through thematic analysis,while the survey data through descriptive and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling(PLS-SEM).Results:The results highlight that students gain motivation from online music,which positively affects their psychological well-being(β=0.190,p=0.003,f^(2)=0.037),while resilience significantly affects this relationship(β=0.562,p<0.001,f^(2)=0.461).However,the results also predict a partial relationship between constructs based on UGE with psychological well-being,mediated by resilience,i.e.,AT-UGE(β=0.021,p=0.783,f^(2)=0.000),SIPI-UGE(β=0.228,p=0.004,f^(2)=0.044).Conclusion:The outcome of the study reflected practical,meaningful,and statistically significant results.The majority of the predictors,with the exception of one,i.e.,AT-UGE,displayed a clear positive relation of online music consumption on the Psychological Well-being of students.Future research will explore varying contextual factors impacting online music-related gratifications,motivations,and resilience,along with additional potential mediators and moderators.展开更多

Methods: A sample of 72 bladder cancer patients who underwent surgical treatment from September 2024 to September 2025 was randomly divided into groups using a random number table. Group A received motivational nursing under the solution-focused approach, while Group B received conventional nursing. Health behavior scores and complication indicators were compared between the two groups. Results: Group A had higher scores on the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP-Ⅱ) than Group B, with p < 0.05. The postoperative complication rate in Group A was lower than that in Group B, with p < 0.05. Conclusion: For bladder cancer patients undergoing surgery, receiving motivational nursing under the solution-focused approach can improve health behaviors, alleviate negative emotions, and is highly feasible and effective.展开更多

They are trained in this way from primary school. So by the time they enter college, not only are they accustomed to the role of submissive student following the lead of a dominant teacher, but they also quite welcome it, for they don’t have to take any initiative in class, they just wait to be filled with knowledge. Students’ hesitancy to participate actively in class comes not just from students themselves but also from some teachers, who stick to the force-feeding method because it is an easy way for them to conduct a class. So I started to try and change this situation. I designed a teaching plan in which I used different techniques to provide the students with lots of opportunities to be active participants in class. This editorial highlights a recently published study examining the effectiveness of music therapy combined with motivational interviewing(MI)in addressing an-xiety and depression among young and middle-aged patients f...This editorial highlights a recently published study examining the effectiveness of music therapy combined with motivational interviewing(MI)in addressing an-xiety and depression among young and middle-aged patients following percuta-neous coronary intervention.It further explores existing evidence and potential future research directions for MI in postoperative rehabilitation and chronic disease management.MI aims to facilitate behavioral change and promote healthier lifestyles by fostering a trusting relationship with patients and enhan-cing intrinsic motivation.Research has demonstrated its effectiveness in posto-perative recovery for oncological surgery,stroke,organ transplants,and gastroin-testinal procedures,as well as in managing chronic conditions such as diabetes,obesity,and periodontal disease.The approach is patient-centered,adaptable,cost-effective,and easily replicable,though its limitations include reliance on the therapist’s expertise,variability in individual responses,and insufficient long-term follow-up studies.Future research could focus on developing individualized and precise intervention models,exploring applications in digital health management,and confirming long-term outcomes to provide more compre-hensive support for patient rehabilitation.展开更多

In the L2 Motivational Self System(L2MSS),visualizing the ideal self such as describing goals and wishes is crucial.When people find a huge gap between ideal and reality,they could become demotivated.There have been s...In the L2 Motivational Self System(L2MSS),visualizing the ideal self such as describing goals and wishes is crucial.When people find a huge gap between ideal and reality,they could become demotivated.There have been several studies on the L2MSS;however,these studies have not extensively investigated how the gap influences people.This study examined the influences of this gap with Japanese teachers of English(JTEs).The participants were four full-time JTEs from Japanese secondary schools.During one academic year,semi-structured interviews were conducted.The findings showed that each participant illustrated a clear idea of what they would like to do and also experienced a reality gap.As they could not find a way to close the gap,many seemed to feel demotivated and frustrated.The study revealed that merely depicting an ideal situation is not enough,and it is important to depict one appropriately.展开更多

文摘This editorial highlights a recently published study examining the effectiveness of music therapy combined with motivational interviewing(MI)in addressing an-xiety and depression among young and middle-aged patients following percuta-neous coronary intervention.It further explores existing evidence and potential future research directions for MI in postoperative rehabilitation and chronic disease management.MI aims to facilitate behavioral change and promote healthier lifestyles by fostering a trusting relationship with patients and enhan-cing intrinsic motivation.Research has demonstrated its effectiveness in posto-perative recovery for oncological surgery,stroke,organ transplants,and gastroin-testinal procedures,as well as in managing chronic conditions such as diabetes,obesity,and periodontal disease.The approach is patient-centered,adaptable,cost-effective,and easily replicable,though its limitations include reliance on the therapist’s expertise,variability in individual responses,and insufficient long-term follow-up studies.Future research could focus on developing individualized and precise intervention models,exploring applications in digital health management,and confirming long-term outcomes to provide more compre-hensive support for patient rehabilitation.
文摘Across four studies,we explore the impact of solitude on consumers’reliance on feelings versus reasons in decision making,along with the underlying mechanism and boundary conditions.The results indicate that solitude individuals(vs.non-solitude)would prefer feeling-based strategy in decision-making,resulting in a higher intention of choosing the affectively superior option over the cognitively superior option(Study 1).Self-focus plays the underlying mechanism in the solitude effect(Study 2).Moreover,we also examine two boundary conditions:motivation(Study 3)and temporal orientation(Study 4),which indicates that involuntary motivation and future orientation can mitigate the solitude effect on affective processing.These findings provide insights into consumers’judgments of product attributes and selection of decision-making strategies according to their situations.

文摘The research topic of the author’s PhD dissertation is“The Impact of Motivation Cultivation on English Autonomous Learning among University Students in Hunan,China—A Mediating Role of Learning Strategy.”Within this topic,three key variables are identified:the dependent variable(DV),the independent variable(IV),and the mediating variable(MV).Specifically,the DV refers to English autonomous learning,the IV refers to motivation,and the MV refers to learning strategy.The research establishes that the MV(learning strategy)is an integral component of information processing theory(IPT).Consequently,the dissertation incorporates integrative and instrumental motivation theories alongside IPT as its foundational theoretical framework.This paper aims to explore the theoretical framework of the PhD dissertation in detail,focusing on the interplay of these three theories.
文摘In the L2 Motivational Self System(L2MSS),visualizing the ideal self such as describing goals and wishes is crucial.When people find a huge gap between ideal and reality,they could become demotivated.There have been several studies on the L2MSS;however,these studies have not extensively investigated how the gap influences people.This study examined the influences of this gap with Japanese teachers of English(JTEs).The participants were four full-time JTEs from Japanese secondary schools.During one academic year,semi-structured interviews were conducted.The findings showed that each participant illustrated a clear idea of what they would like to do and also experienced a reality gap.As they could not find a way to close the gap,many seemed to feel demotivated and frustrated.The study revealed that merely depicting an ideal situation is not enough,and it is important to depict one appropriately.
