In this paper, graphite-like carbon (GLC) films with Cr buffer layer were fabricated by DC magnetron sputtering technique with the thickness ratio of Cr to GLC films varying from 1:2 to 1:20. The effect of Cr]GLC modulation ratio on microstructure, mechanical and tribological properties in artificial seawater was mainly investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), nano-indenter and a reciprocating sliding tribo-meter. The propagation of defects plays an important role in the evolution of delamination, which is critical to wear failure of GLC films in artificial seawa- ter. Designing the proper multilayer structure could inhibit the defects propagation and thus protect the basis material. The multilayer Cr/GLC film with optimized ratio of 1:3 demonstrates a low average friction coefficient of 0.08 ± 0.006 and wear rate of (2.3 ± 0.3) × 10^-8 mm3/(N m) in artificial seawater, respectively. 展开更多

For Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs)with limited electrical power to achieve effectively anti-/de-icing at the leading edge of the wing,a strategy of ice shape modulation was proposed.Isolated simulated ice shape pieces printed by 3D printing technology are mounted on a NACA0012 finite wing model,and its lift/drag coefficients and suction-side velocity fields are measured by the six-component force balance and the Particle Imaging Velocimetry(PIV),respectively.The ratio of the spanwise length of a single ice shape piece to chord length and the spanwise length of the non-icing area between the two adjacent single ice shape pieces are defined as dimensionless ice shape length(w/c)and dimensionless modulation ratio(w/λ),respectively.The results indicate that for a fixed w/λ,the wing lift coefficient first increases and then drops with increasing w/c,and a peak value exists when w/c is between 0.1 and 0.2.The lower the w/λis,the higher the wing lift coefficient will be.The periodical variation of the flow separation area along the spanwise direction is attributed on the one hand to the acceleration effect of the flow field in the non-icing area which reduces the separation area,and on the other hand to the cross-flow caused by the streamwise vortices from the non-icing area to the icing area which promotes the mixing of the flow field(similar to vortex generators).The obtained modulation law is verified through flight tests and provides guidance for the use of ice shape modulation scheme for UAVs that cannot be completely anti-/deicing under severe weather conditions. 展开更多

A high-performance terahertz Schottky barrier diode(SBD)with an inverted trapezoidal epitaxial cross-sectional structure featuring high varactor characteristics and reverse breakdown characteristics is reported in this paper.Inductively coupled plasma dry etching and dissolution wet etching are used to define the profile of the epitaxial layer,by which the voltage-dependent variation trend of the thickness of the metal-semiconductor contact depletion layer is modified.The simulation of the inverted trapezoidal epitaxial cross-section SBD is also conducted to explain the physical mechanism of the electric field and space charge region area.Compared with the normal structure,the grading coefficient M increases from 0.47 to 0.52,and the capacitance modulation ratio(C^(max)/C_(min))increases from 6.70 to 7.61.The inverted trapezoidal epitaxial cross-section structure is a promising approach to improve the variable-capacity ratio by eliminating the accumulation of charge at the Schottky electrode edge.A 190 GHz frequency doubler based on the inverted trapezoidal epitaxial cross-section SBD also shows a doubling efficiency of 35%compared to that 30%of a normal SBD. 展开更多

Short-term Earthquake Prediction in the Sichuan-Yunnan Region Using the Method of Modulated Earthquakes

Besides,small earthquake modulation ratios near the region of the epicenter were calculated and sorted by time. The results indicated that there were significant effects using the modulated earthquake method to predict earthquakes greater than MS6. 0 in a short time. Before the MS8. 0 Wenchuan earthquake,there were obvious short-term precursory seismicity gap patterns of modulated small earthquakes. 展开更多

This review starts with the description of the quantitative significance of dissolved organic material in general and dissolved humic substances (HS) in particular in various ecosystems. Despite their high quantities, the knowledge about the role of HS is still very low and full of old, but still recycled paradigms. HS are thought to be inert or at least refractory and too large to be taken up by aquatic organisms. Instead, I present evidence that dissolved HS that mainly derives from the terrestrial environment, are taken up and directly and/or indirectly interfere with freshwater organisms and, thus, structure biocenoses. Relatively well known is in the meantime the fuelling function of allochthonous HS, which, upon irradiation, release fatty acids, which serve as substrates for microbial growth. This is an indirect effect of HS. Microbes, in turn, are food for mixotrophic algae and (heterotrophic) zooplankton. Thus, non-eutrophicated freshwaters are net-heterotrophic, meaning that respiration exceeds primary production. Furthermore, model calculations exemplify that only a very small portion of the terrestrial production is sufficient to cause net-heterotrophy in these freshwater bodies. But, recent papers show also that due to different stoichiometries the maximal plankton biomass production with algae or mixotrophs is higher than with bacteria. Very recently, several direct effects of HS have been elucidated. Among them are:induction of chaperons (stress shock proteins), induction and modulation of biotransformation enzymes, modulation (mainly inhibition) of photosynthetic oxygen release of aquatic plants, production of an internal oxidative stress, modulation of the offspring numbers in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans[WTBZ], feminization of fish and amphibs, interference within the thyroid system, and action as chemical attractant to C. elegans. We are still in the phase of identifying the various physiological, biochemical, and molecular-biological effects. Hence, the ecological and ecophysiological significance of these HS-mediated effects still remain somewhat obscure. Nevertheless, HS appear generally to have an impact on the individual as well as on the community and even ecosystem level comparable to that of, for instance, nutrients. 展开更多

By considering in combination with the high specific power, low working voltage, wide voltage working range and noulinear external characteristics, we present constant duty ratio pulse frequency modulation mode and fuzzy control method based on state prediction in the active equalization circuit and accomplish the software and hardware design for the equalization system. The unified power flow controller(UPFC)based on modular multilevel converter(MMC) is the most creative flexible ac transmission system(FACTS) device. In theory, the output voltage of the series MMC in MMCUPFC can be regulated from 0 to the rated value. However,there would be relatively large harmonics in the output voltage if the voltage modulation ratio is small. In order to analyze the influence of MMC-UPFC on the harmonics of the power grid, the theoretical calculation method and spectra of the output voltage harmonics of MMC are presented. Subsequently, the calculation formulas of the harmonics in the power grid with UPFC are proposed. Based on it, the influence of UPFC on the grid voltage harmonics is evaluated, when MMC-UPFC is operated with different submodular numbers and voltage modular ratios. Eventually, the proposed analysis method is validated using digital simulation. The study results would provide guideline for the design and operation of MMC-UPFC project. 展开更多

In this paper,a novel method for shock-free soft-start is proposed.The novel method can realize the aim of no-overshoot and inrush of current during the entire soft-start process,thus the start process is safe,stable,and reliable.When the uncontrolled rectification stage ends,a sinusoidal signal synchronized with the grid voltage is generated through dq coordinate transformation and D-axis orientation,then the signal is transmitted to the three-phase inverter bridge.The AC voltage output of the inverter bridge is superimposed on both ends of the soft-start resistor along with the grid.The open-loop control method is adopted to gradually reduce the modulation ratio of the sinusoidal PWM wave until the capacitor voltage on the DC side reaches the rated voltage value,then the soft-start resistor is removed,which means the shock-free soft-start process is completed.Experimental results prove the effectiveness and feasibility of the control strategy proposed in this paper. 展开更多

The theoretical model of spatial noise passing through a spatial filter is established in high power laser system under the small signal approximation. The transmission characteristic for a noise signal passing through spatial filters with different magnifications is analyzed by numerical simulation, according to the actual structure of the high power laser system. The results show that the spatial modulation period of low-frequency noise getting through the pinhole will be proportional to the magnification of the spatial filter. When the magnification is less than 1, the safe low-frequency noise will be extruded into the high-frequency region, which is the fast increasing part, and finally develops into the most dangerous part which can damage the optical devices. The conclusion of this research improves the relay imaging theory of a spatial filter and provides an important theoretical basis for a general design of high power laser systems. 展开更多
