This study aims to investigate the impact of middle ear effusion(MEE)on sound transmission in the human ear and its potential diagnostic significance.Firstly,the material properties of specific structures were adjuste...This study aims to investigate the impact of middle ear effusion(MEE)on sound transmission in the human ear and its potential diagnostic significance.Firstly,the material properties of specific structures were adjusted based on the existing human ear finite element(FE)model,and the accuracy of the model was validated using experimental data.Secondly,six FE models were developed to simulate varying degrees of MEE by systematically altering the material properties of the middle ear cavity(MEC)at different anatomical locations.Finally,the effects of these six FE models,representing varying degrees of MEE,on sound transmission characteristics and energy absorption(EA)rate in the human ear were systematically analyzed.When the degree of MEE is less than 50%of the MEC volume,its impact on the sound transmission characteristics of the human ear remains minimal,resulting in an estimated hearing loss of approximately 3 dB,with EA rate remaining close to normal levels.Once the effusion exceeds 50%of the MEC volume,a significant deterioration in acoustic transmission is observed,accompanied by a flattening of the EA curve and a drop in EA rates to below 20%.When the effusion completely fills the MEC,the maximum hearing loss reaches 46.47 dB,and the EA rate approaches zero across the entire frequency range.These findings provide theoretical insights into the biomechanical effects of MEE on human auditory transmission and offer a reference for clinical diagnosis and evaluation.展开更多
BACKGROUND Middle meningeal artery embolization(MMAE)is emerging as a promising treatment for chronic subdural hematoma(CSDH),serving both as an adjunct to surgery and as a primary therapeutic option depending on pati...BACKGROUND Middle meningeal artery embolization(MMAE)is emerging as a promising treatment for chronic subdural hematoma(CSDH),serving both as an adjunct to surgery and as a primary therapeutic option depending on patient presentation.Due to its low recurrence rate and minimal complications,MMAE has gained increasing acceptance among clinicians in recent years.This report presents a case of diplopia following MMAE due to the presence of a potential anastomotic artery,aiming to enhance awareness of this complication.CASE SUMMARY A 60-year-old male patient presented with a headache following head trauma,and cranial computed tomography revealed a left-sided CSDH.The patient underwent left MMAE;however,polyvinyl alcohol particles inadvertently flowed into the lacrimal artery through an anastomotic artery,resulting in diplopia due to impaired abduction of the left eye.The diplopia resolved by postoperative day 40.The patient’s headache resolved by postoperative day 7,and the hematoma completely resolved by postoperative day 108.CONCLUSION Potential anastomotic arteries in the middle meningeal artery(MMA)can lead to serious complications.Superselective angiography of the MMA or its branches prior to embolization is essential.Performing embolization distal to potential anastomotic sites can reduce risks,and the presence of an anastomosis may warrant coil embolization or termination of the procedure.展开更多
Wetlands play a critical role in the global environment.The Middle Yangtze River Basin(MYRB),known for its abundant wetland resources,has experienced notable changes resulting from the complex interplay of environment...Wetlands play a critical role in the global environment.The Middle Yangtze River Basin(MYRB),known for its abundant wetland resources,has experienced notable changes resulting from the complex interplay of environmental factors.Therefore,we investigated the spatiotemporal characteristics of wetland ecological quality in the MYRB from 2001 to 2020.Utilizing the random forest(RF)regression algorithm and patch-generated land-use simulation(PLUS)model,we forecasted variations in wetland habitat quality and their determinants under the Shared Socioeconomic Pathway-Representative Concentration Pathway(SSPRCP)framework from 2035 to 2095.The main findings are as follows:(1)The RF algorithm was optimal for land-use and land-cover(LULC)classification in the MYRB from 2001 to 2020,when notable changes were observed in water bodies and buildings.However,the forested area exhibited an increase and decrease of 3.9%and 1.2%under the SSP1-2.6 and SSP5-8.5 scenarios,respectively,whereas farmland exhibited a diminishing trend.(2)Wetlands were primarily concentrated in the central and eastern MYRB,with counties in the southwest exhibiting superior ecological-environmental quality from 2001 to 2020.Notably,wetland coverage revealed significantly high level,significant changes,frequent but relatively minor changes under the SSP1-2.6,SSP2-4.5,and SSP 5-8.5 scenarios,respectively.(3)Regions with lower habitat quality were primarily concentrated in urbanized areas characterized by frequent human activities,indicating a clear degradation in habitat quality across different scenarios.In conclusion,we established a foundational framework for future investigations into the eco-hydrological processes and ecosystem quality of watersheds.展开更多

BACKGROUND Picky eating is a commonly observed behavior among children globally,negatively impacting their physical and mental growth.Although common characteristics distinguish peaky eaters,including food selectivity...BACKGROUND Picky eating is a commonly observed behavior among children globally,negatively impacting their physical and mental growth.Although common characteristics distinguish peaky eaters,including food selectivity,food neophobia,and food avoidance,there is no clear definition to assess this behavior.Due to the unavailability of data regarding picky eating,it wasn’t easy to estimate its prevalence.AIM To develop a regional protocol to help healthcare professionals identify and manage mild and moderate picky eating cases.METHODS A virtual roundtable discussion was held in April 2021 to gather the opinions of seven pediatricians and two pediatric dietitians from eight Middle Eastern countries who had great experience in the management of picky eating.The discussion covered different topics,including clearly defining mild and moderate picky eating,identifying the role of diet fortification in these cases,and the possibility of developing a systematic approach to diet fortification.RESULTS The panel identified picky eating as consuming an inadequate amount and variety of foods by rejecting familiar and unfamiliar food.Most of the time,moderate picky eating cases had micronutrient deficiencies with over-or undernutrition;the mild cases only showed inadequate food consumption and/or poor diet quality.Paying attention to the organic red flags like growth faltering and development delay and behavioral red flags,including food fixation and anticipatory gagging,will help healthcare professionals evaluate the picky eaters and the caregivers to care for their children.Although dietary supplementation and commercial food fortification play an important role in picky eating,they were no benefit in the Middle East.CONCLUSION The panel agreed that food fortification through a food-first approach and oral nutritional supplements would be the best for Middle Eastern children.These recommendations would facilitate identifying and managing picky-eating children in the Middle East.展开更多

This paper discusses the characteristics and formation mechanism of thin dolomite reservoirs in the lower submember of the second member of the Permian Maokou Formation(lower Mao 2 Member)in the Wusheng-Tongnan area o...This paper discusses the characteristics and formation mechanism of thin dolomite reservoirs in the lower submember of the second member of the Permian Maokou Formation(lower Mao 2 Member)in the Wusheng-Tongnan area of the Sichuan Basin,SW China,through comprehensive analysis of geological,geophysical and geochemical data.The reservoir rocks of the lower Mao 2 Member are dominated by porphyritic vuggy dolomite and calcareous dolomite or dolomitic limestone,which have typical karst characteristics of early diagenetic stage.The dolomites at the edge of the karst system and in the fillings have dissolved estuaries,and the dolomite breccia has micrite envelope and rim cement at the edge,indicating that dolomitization is earlier than the early diagenetic karstification.The shoal facies laminated dolomite is primarily formed by the seepage reflux dolomitization of moderate-salinity seawater.The key factors of reservoir formation are the bioclastic shoal deposition superimposed with seepgae reflux dolomitization and the karstification of early diagenetic stage,which are locally reformed by fractures and hydrothermal processes.The development of dolomite vuggy reservoir is closely related to the upward-shallowing sequence,and mainly occurs in the late highstand of the fourth-order cycle.Moreover,the size of dolomite is closely related to formation thickness,and it is concentrated in the formation thickness conversion area,followed by the thinner area.According to the understanding of insufficient accommodation space in the geomorphic highland and the migration of granular shoal to geomorphic lowland in the late highstand of the third-order cycle,it is proposed that the large-scale shoal-controlled dolomite reservoirs are distributed along structural highs and slopes,and the reservoir-forming model with shoal,dolomitization and karstification jointly controlled by the microgeomorphy and sea-level fluctuation in the sedimentary period is established.On this basis,the paleogeomorphology in the lower Mao 2 Member is restored using well-seismic data,and the reservoir distribution is predicted.The prediction results have been verified by the latest results of exploration wells and tests,which provide an important reference for the prediction of thin dolomite reservoirs under similar geological setting.展开更多

Cenozoic trachytes are characteristic of some active volcanic fields in China.In particular,the origin and mechanisms of the evolution of trachytes from the Tianchi(Changbaishan)volcano(TV,China/North Korea)are poorly...Cenozoic trachytes are characteristic of some active volcanic fields in China.In particular,the origin and mechanisms of the evolution of trachytes from the Tianchi(Changbaishan)volcano(TV,China/North Korea)are poorly known.Here,we present new geochronological,geochemical and isotopic data on two trachytic suites outcropping on the northern and southern upper slopes of TV.Detailed zircon laser ablation-multicollector-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry(LA-MC-ICP-MS)U-Pb dating,Rb-Sr isochron dating of plagioclase and hornblende,^(40)Ar/^(39)Ar chronology with mineral chemistry,whole-rock element and Sr-Nd-Pb isotope data are used to explore their origins and evolutionary mechanisms during the late Middle Pleistocene.Our data indicate that the trachytes mainly consist of sanidine,orthoclase and plagioclase,with minor albite,quartz and hornblende.They formed at 0.353-0.346 Ma(lava flow from the northern slope)and 0.383-0.311 Ma(lava flow from the southern slope),respectively.The TV trachytes are characterized by high K_(2)O/Na_(2)O and AR values,with low A/CNK and Mg~#values.They are enriched in rare earth elements(REEs;except Eu),depleted in Sr and Ba,crystallizing at 742-858℃.The TV trachytes have high(^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr)_i values(0.70776-0.71195),positiveε_(Nd)(t)values(0.61-2.93)and radiogenic^(206)Pb/^(204)Pb values(17.515-17.806).These values are similar to those of the Pleistocene and Holocene TV trachytes.Geochemical data indicate that they were formed by fractional crystallization from a basaltic melt and assimilated upper crust material.The trace element pattern of the studied trachytes is consistent with an evolution from basaltic melts representative of an enriched mantle source.The vent from which the trachytic magma was erupted probably collapsed inside the caldera during the TV'Millennium'eruption(ME)in 946 AD.The contemporaneous emission of basaltic and trachytic magma during the Middle-Late Pleistocene suggests the coexistence of fissural basaltic volcanism and central-type trachytic volcanism,the latter of which was associated with a magma chamber in the upper crust during the TV cone-construction stage.展开更多
Situated in the semi-arid regions of North China,the Nihewan Basin documents the fluvio-lacustrine sequence and Pleistocene archaeological sites,offering an excellent opportunity to investigate human adaptation to env...Situated in the semi-arid regions of North China,the Nihewan Basin documents the fluvio-lacustrine sequence and Pleistocene archaeological sites,offering an excellent opportunity to investigate human adaptation to environmental change in East Asia,especially in North China.However,paleoenvironmental datasets from Middle Pleistocene archaeological sites are not fully understood.Focusing on the evidence from the 0.63-0.49 Ma-old site of Jijiazhuang(Nihewan Basin,North China),this paper presents the results of various environmental indicators from the site context.Moreover,it explores the links between hominin behavioral adaptations and ecological variability during the extra-long interglacial period in North China.Sedimentological features of the excavated section indicate that the site was formed in the margin of the Nihewan paleolake.Based on well-constructed pollen,sediment grain size,color reflectance,and major geochemical element analyses,five stages of environmental changes were identified during site formation.This study indicates that hominins occupied the site at the early part of Stage 2,when the Nihewan paleolake had a relatively low water level and the climate was temperate,with strong weathering intensity dominated by wooded grassland landscapes.In conclusion,the results suggest that the extra-long duration of interglacial or mild stadial climate events(MISs 15-13)in the Northern Hemisphere may have provided favorable conditions for increased technological innovations and adaptive strategies among Middle Pleistocene hominins in the Nihewan Basin even in North China.展开更多
In this study,the climatology and long-term trends of middle atmospheric temperatures at mid-latitudes are investigated using Rayleigh/Sodium lidar observations collected from January 2010 to December 2021 over Hefei,...In this study,the climatology and long-term trends of middle atmospheric temperatures at mid-latitudes are investigated using Rayleigh/Sodium lidar observations collected from January 2010 to December 2021 over Hefei,China(32°N,117°E).The seasonal variations and vertical profiles of lidar-derived temperatures demonstrate strong agreement with temperature measurements from the Microwave Limb Sounder(MLS)instrument on the Earth Observing System(EOS)Aura satellite.In terms of seasonal variation,middle atmospheric temperatures primarily exhibit annual oscillations(AO)and semi-annual oscillations(SAO).Harmonic analysis of the lidar and MLS temperature data reveals close phase alignment for both AO and SAO,with AO amplitudes ranging from 2 to 6 K,and SAO amplitudes from 1 to 4 K.The dependence of temperature on solar forcing was analyzed using the F10.7 index as a proxy,showing positive solar response coefficients at all altitudes,with a maximum of 15±1.1 K/100 SFU observed near 42–44 km.After removing the temperature response to solar cycle variations,a cooling trend in mid-latitude temperatures is evident across all altitudes,ranging from 3 to 6 K/decade.展开更多

Changes in river cross-section morphology have decisive influences on the flood discharge and sand transport capacity of rivers;thus,these changes strongly reflect the vitality of a river.In this paper,based on the ri...Changes in river cross-section morphology have decisive influences on the flood discharge and sand transport capacity of rivers;thus,these changes strongly reflect the vitality of a river.In this paper,based on the river cross-section and water and sediment data of two different periods(1974−1987 and 2007−2021),the trend analysis,change-point analysis and sediment rating curve method were used to analyze the change process of river cross-section morphology and its response to streamflow and sediment changes in the main river stream of the Yellow River at the Longmen hydrological station.From 1974 to 1987(except in 1977),the riverbed experi-enced siltation,and the riverbed elevation rose.Conversely,from 2007 to 2021,the riverbed experienced scouring,and the riverbed el-evation gradually decreased.The cross-section shape changed from rectangular to U-shaped(deeper on the right side)at the Longmen cross-section.The changes in streamflow and sediment processes significantly impacted the evolution of river cross-section.Stream-flow(P<0.05),sediment discharge(P<0.01),and the sediment load coefficients(P<0.01)decreased significantly.The relationship between the water depth and sediment load coefficients followed a power function.The decreasing trend in sediment discharge was sig-nificantly stronger than that in streamflow.Suspended sediment particles tended to become finer.The sediment rating curve indicates that the sediment supply from upstream decreased while the erosive power in the river channel increased,leading to a gradual decline in riverbed elevation at the Longmen cross-section from 2007 to 2021.These findings help us better understand the impacts of ecological restoration on changes in river streamflow and sediment during river evolution.展开更多
The Qinling orogenic belt in central China underwent long-term tectonic evolution during an amalgamation between the North China and South China cratons.However,intense compressional deformation and uplift erosion res...The Qinling orogenic belt in central China underwent long-term tectonic evolution during an amalgamation between the North China and South China cratons.However,intense compressional deformation and uplift erosion resulted in the transformation and disappearance of much geological record from the Qinling orogenic belt,and the tectonic evolution of this belt remains poorly constrained during the Triassic.Located in the northernmost margin of the South China Craton,the Sichuan Basin preserves the complete Triassic sedimentary succession,and can provide significant information for understanding the Triassic tectonic evolution of the Qinling orogenic belt.We present detrital zircon U-Pb dating,trace element and in situ Lu-Hf isotope data for the Middle Triassic Leikoupo Formation and the Late Triassic Xujiahe Formation samples from the eastern Sichuan Basin,South China.The detrital zircon U-Pb ages of the Leikoupo Formation show seven age clusters of 280-242,350-300,500-400,1000-800,2000-1750,2100-2000 and 2600-2400 Ma,while those of the Xujiahe Formation show five age clusters of 300-200,500-350,1050-950,2000-1750 and 2600-2400 Ma.Combined with published paleocurrent and paleogeographic data,the sediments of the Leikoupo Formation are interpreted to be sourced from the North China Craton,Yangtze Craton and North Qinling orogenic belt,and the potential main source regions of the Xujiahe Formation included the South and North Qinling orogenic belts.Provenance analysis indicates that the North Qinling orogenic belt was in inherited uplift and coeval denudation in the Middle Triassic.The proportion of the detritus formed in the South Qinling orogenic belt increases gradually from the Leikoupo to Xujiahe formations.This significant provenance change indicates that rapid tectonic uplift and extensive denudation of the South Qinling orogenic belt occurred in the early Late Triassic,which is related to the collision between the North China and South China cratons during the Triassic.展开更多
BACKGROUND Middle pancreatectomy(MP)is a surgical procedure that removes non-invasive lesions in the pancreatic neck and body,allowing for the preservation of pan-creatic function.However,MP is associated with a highe...BACKGROUND Middle pancreatectomy(MP)is a surgical procedure that removes non-invasive lesions in the pancreatic neck and body,allowing for the preservation of pan-creatic function.However,MP is associated with a higher risk of postoperative complications,and there’s no clear consensus on which anastomotic method is preferable.In recent years,our team has developed a new method called inter-locking main pancreatic duct-jejunal(IMPD-J)internal bridge drainage to MP.AIM To compare perioperative and postoperative outcomes in patients who underwent IMPD-J bridge drainage and those underwent traditional duct-to-mucosa pancreatojejunostomy.METHODS Patients who underwent MP in our hospital between October 1,2011 and July 31,2023 were enrolled in this study.Patients were divided into two groups based on their pancreatojejunostomy technique:IMPD-J bridge drainage group and duct-to-mucosa pancreatojejunostomy group.Demographic data(age,gender,body mass index,hypertension,diabetes,etc.)and perioperative indicators[operation time,intraoperative bleeding,clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula(CR-POPF),delayed gastric emptying,etc.]were recorded and analyzed statist-ically.RESULTS A total of 53 patients were enrolled in this study,including 23 in the IMPD-J Bridge Drainage group and 30 in the traditional duct-to-mucosa pancreatojejun-ostomy group.There were no significant differences in demographic or preope-rative characteristics between the groups.Compared to traditional duct-to-mucosa pancreaticojejunostomy,IMPD-J bridge drainage had a significant shorter operation time(4.3±1.3 hours vs 5.8±1.8 hours,P=0.002),nasogastric tube retention days(5.3±1.7 days vs 6.5±2.0 days,P=0.031),lower incidence of delayed gastric emptying(8.7%vs 36.7%,P=0.019),and lower incidence of CR-POPF(39.1%vs 70.0%,P=0.025).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that pancreaticojejunostomy type(odds ratio=4.219,95%confidence interval=1.238-14.379,P=0.021)and plasma prealbumin(odds ratio=1.132,95%confidence interval=1.001-1.281,P=0.049)were independent risk factor for CR-POPF.In IMPD-J bridge drainage group,only one patient experienced recurrent pancreatitis due to the large diameter of the silicone tube and had it removed six months after surgery.CONCLUSION Compared to traditional duct-to-mucosa pancreatojejunostomy,IMPD-J bridge drainage has the advantages of simplicity and fewer perioperative complications,with favorable long-term outcomes.展开更多

Studies have shown that vascular dysfunction is closely related to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease.The middle temporal gyrus region of the brain is susceptible to pronounced impairment in Alzheimer's d...Studies have shown that vascular dysfunction is closely related to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease.The middle temporal gyrus region of the brain is susceptible to pronounced impairment in Alzheimer's disease.Identification of the molecules involved in vascular aberrance of the middle temporal gyrus would support elucidation of the mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's disease and discove ry of novel targets for intervention.We carried out single-cell transcriptomic analysis of the middle temporal gyrus in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease and healthy controls,revealing obvious changes in vascular function.CellChat analysis of intercellular communication in the middle temporal gyrus showed that the number of cell interactions in this region was decreased in Alzheimer's disease patients,with altered intercellular communication of endothelial cells and pericytes being the most prominent.Differentially expressed genes were also identified.Using the CellChat results,AUCell evaluation of the pathway activity of specific cells showed that the obvious changes in vascular function in the middle temporal gyrus in Alzheimer's disease were directly related to changes in the vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)A-VEGF receptor(VEGFR)2 pathway.AUCell analysis identified subtypes of endothelial cells and pericytes directly related to VEGFA-VEGFR2 pathway activity.Two subtypes of middle temporal gyrus cells showed significant alteration in AD:endothelial cells with high expression of Erb-B2 receptor tyrosine kinase 4(ERBB4^(high))and pericytes with high expression of angiopoietin-like 4(ANGPTL4^(high)).Finally,combining bulk RNA sequencing data and two machine learning algorithms(least absolute shrinkage and selection operator and random forest),four characteristic Alzheimer's disease feature genes were identified:somatostatin(SST),protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor type 3(PTPN3),glutinase(GL3),and tropomyosin 3(PTM3).These genes were downregulated in the middle temporal gyrus of patients with Alzheimer's disease and may be used to target the VEGF pathway.Alzheimer's disease mouse models demonstrated consistent altered expression of these genes in the middle temporal gyrus.In conclusion,this study detected changes in intercellular communication between endothelial cells and pericytes in the middle temporal gyrus and identified four novel feature genes related to middle temporal gyrus and vascular functioning in patients with Alzheimer's disease.These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's disease and present novel treatment targets.展开更多
In 2024,Ji Qiang et al.established a new species,namely,Homo yunxianensis,based on the fossil human cranium(EV9001)unearthed from the Xuetangliangzi site of Yunxian County,Hubei Province,China,and characterized by dev...In 2024,Ji Qiang et al.established a new species,namely,Homo yunxianensis,based on the fossil human cranium(EV9001)unearthed from the Xuetangliangzi site of Yunxian County,Hubei Province,China,and characterized by developing 16 teeth on the maxilla,two slightly curved,thick brow ridges,but no sagittal ridge along the cranial midline.Homo yunxianensis developed the skull of type C,which was considered as the descendant of Homo erectus and later evolved into Homo orientalis with 31 to 29 teeth orally.In this paper,we restudy the skull(the holotype)of the Jinniushan man,which was found in the cave crevasse deposit(Point A)on the southeast slope of the Jinniushan Hill in Yingkou City,Liaoning Province by the teachers and students of the Archaeology Department of Peking University in 1984.The skull shows some distinct characters as follows:the cranial fornix is medium tall;the sagittal ridge does not developed;the brow ridges are thick and slightly curved;the upper jaw has 16 teeth preserved in situ;and the posterior end(the transition part)is obtuse in shape.These features mentioned above show that the Jinniushan cranium represents a new species:Homo jinniushanensis sp.nov.,rather than Homo erectus,Homo yunxianensis,and archaic or early Homo sapiens.We suggested that Homo jinniushanensis sp.nov.is probably the intermediate form transitional from Homo yunxianensis to Homo(H.)sapiens.展开更多

文摘This study aims to investigate the impact of middle ear effusion(MEE)on sound transmission in the human ear and its potential diagnostic significance.Firstly,the material properties of specific structures were adjusted based on the existing human ear finite element(FE)model,and the accuracy of the model was validated using experimental data.Secondly,six FE models were developed to simulate varying degrees of MEE by systematically altering the material properties of the middle ear cavity(MEC)at different anatomical locations.Finally,the effects of these six FE models,representing varying degrees of MEE,on sound transmission characteristics and energy absorption(EA)rate in the human ear were systematically analyzed.When the degree of MEE is less than 50%of the MEC volume,its impact on the sound transmission characteristics of the human ear remains minimal,resulting in an estimated hearing loss of approximately 3 dB,with EA rate remaining close to normal levels.Once the effusion exceeds 50%of the MEC volume,a significant deterioration in acoustic transmission is observed,accompanied by a flattening of the EA curve and a drop in EA rates to below 20%.When the effusion completely fills the MEC,the maximum hearing loss reaches 46.47 dB,and the EA rate approaches zero across the entire frequency range.These findings provide theoretical insights into the biomechanical effects of MEE on human auditory transmission and offer a reference for clinical diagnosis and evaluation.
文摘BACKGROUND Middle meningeal artery embolization(MMAE)is emerging as a promising treatment for chronic subdural hematoma(CSDH),serving both as an adjunct to surgery and as a primary therapeutic option depending on patient presentation.Due to its low recurrence rate and minimal complications,MMAE has gained increasing acceptance among clinicians in recent years.This report presents a case of diplopia following MMAE due to the presence of a potential anastomotic artery,aiming to enhance awareness of this complication.CASE SUMMARY A 60-year-old male patient presented with a headache following head trauma,and cranial computed tomography revealed a left-sided CSDH.The patient underwent left MMAE;however,polyvinyl alcohol particles inadvertently flowed into the lacrimal artery through an anastomotic artery,resulting in diplopia due to impaired abduction of the left eye.The diplopia resolved by postoperative day 40.The patient’s headache resolved by postoperative day 7,and the hematoma completely resolved by postoperative day 108.CONCLUSION Potential anastomotic arteries in the middle meningeal artery(MMA)can lead to serious complications.Superselective angiography of the MMA or its branches prior to embolization is essential.Performing embolization distal to potential anastomotic sites can reduce risks,and the presence of an anastomosis may warrant coil embolization or termination of the procedure.

文摘Wetlands play a critical role in the global environment.The Middle Yangtze River Basin(MYRB),known for its abundant wetland resources,has experienced notable changes resulting from the complex interplay of environmental factors.Therefore,we investigated the spatiotemporal characteristics of wetland ecological quality in the MYRB from 2001 to 2020.Utilizing the random forest(RF)regression algorithm and patch-generated land-use simulation(PLUS)model,we forecasted variations in wetland habitat quality and their determinants under the Shared Socioeconomic Pathway-Representative Concentration Pathway(SSPRCP)framework from 2035 to 2095.The main findings are as follows:(1)The RF algorithm was optimal for land-use and land-cover(LULC)classification in the MYRB from 2001 to 2020,when notable changes were observed in water bodies and buildings.However,the forested area exhibited an increase and decrease of 3.9%and 1.2%under the SSP1-2.6 and SSP5-8.5 scenarios,respectively,whereas farmland exhibited a diminishing trend.(2)Wetlands were primarily concentrated in the central and eastern MYRB,with counties in the southwest exhibiting superior ecological-environmental quality from 2001 to 2020.Notably,wetland coverage revealed significantly high level,significant changes,frequent but relatively minor changes under the SSP1-2.6,SSP2-4.5,and SSP 5-8.5 scenarios,respectively.(3)Regions with lower habitat quality were primarily concentrated in urbanized areas characterized by frequent human activities,indicating a clear degradation in habitat quality across different scenarios.In conclusion,we established a foundational framework for future investigations into the eco-hydrological processes and ecosystem quality of watersheds.

文摘The chronic occlusion of intracranial arteries generally has no or mild clinical symptoms,and the clinical symptoms of acute cerebral artery occlusion are mostly manifested as severe cerebral infarction symptoms,which often make early diagnosis difficult,thus losing the best treatment opportunity.Once cerebral infarction occurs,the consequences are difficult to recover.This is also an important reason for the high misdiagnosis rate and mortality of this disease.In this paper,the characteristics of the disease were analyzed to provide clinical reference.
文摘BACKGROUND Picky eating is a commonly observed behavior among children globally,negatively impacting their physical and mental growth.Although common characteristics distinguish peaky eaters,including food selectivity,food neophobia,and food avoidance,there is no clear definition to assess this behavior.Due to the unavailability of data regarding picky eating,it wasn’t easy to estimate its prevalence.AIM To develop a regional protocol to help healthcare professionals identify and manage mild and moderate picky eating cases.METHODS A virtual roundtable discussion was held in April 2021 to gather the opinions of seven pediatricians and two pediatric dietitians from eight Middle Eastern countries who had great experience in the management of picky eating.The discussion covered different topics,including clearly defining mild and moderate picky eating,identifying the role of diet fortification in these cases,and the possibility of developing a systematic approach to diet fortification.RESULTS The panel identified picky eating as consuming an inadequate amount and variety of foods by rejecting familiar and unfamiliar food.Most of the time,moderate picky eating cases had micronutrient deficiencies with over-or undernutrition;the mild cases only showed inadequate food consumption and/or poor diet quality.Paying attention to the organic red flags like growth faltering and development delay and behavioral red flags,including food fixation and anticipatory gagging,will help healthcare professionals evaluate the picky eaters and the caregivers to care for their children.Although dietary supplementation and commercial food fortification play an important role in picky eating,they were no benefit in the Middle East.CONCLUSION The panel agreed that food fortification through a food-first approach and oral nutritional supplements would be the best for Middle Eastern children.These recommendations would facilitate identifying and managing picky-eating children in the Middle East.

文摘Chronic subdural hematoma is essentially managed by surgical intervention.In recent times,middle meningeal artery embolisation has emerged as a less invasive procedure in such cases.The use of fine catheters to selectively embolise the specific involved branches of the middle meningeal artery using polyvinyl alcohol particles looks promising;however,the presence of anastomotic arteries can result in reflux and embolisation of these atypical branches,causing a myriad of complications.There is a need to identify these abnormal vessels in time to have a positive outcome with the least complications.

文摘This paper discusses the characteristics and formation mechanism of thin dolomite reservoirs in the lower submember of the second member of the Permian Maokou Formation(lower Mao 2 Member)in the Wusheng-Tongnan area of the Sichuan Basin,SW China,through comprehensive analysis of geological,geophysical and geochemical data.The reservoir rocks of the lower Mao 2 Member are dominated by porphyritic vuggy dolomite and calcareous dolomite or dolomitic limestone,which have typical karst characteristics of early diagenetic stage.The dolomites at the edge of the karst system and in the fillings have dissolved estuaries,and the dolomite breccia has micrite envelope and rim cement at the edge,indicating that dolomitization is earlier than the early diagenetic karstification.The shoal facies laminated dolomite is primarily formed by the seepage reflux dolomitization of moderate-salinity seawater.The key factors of reservoir formation are the bioclastic shoal deposition superimposed with seepgae reflux dolomitization and the karstification of early diagenetic stage,which are locally reformed by fractures and hydrothermal processes.The development of dolomite vuggy reservoir is closely related to the upward-shallowing sequence,and mainly occurs in the late highstand of the fourth-order cycle.Moreover,the size of dolomite is closely related to formation thickness,and it is concentrated in the formation thickness conversion area,followed by the thinner area.According to the understanding of insufficient accommodation space in the geomorphic highland and the migration of granular shoal to geomorphic lowland in the late highstand of the third-order cycle,it is proposed that the large-scale shoal-controlled dolomite reservoirs are distributed along structural highs and slopes,and the reservoir-forming model with shoal,dolomitization and karstification jointly controlled by the microgeomorphy and sea-level fluctuation in the sedimentary period is established.On this basis,the paleogeomorphology in the lower Mao 2 Member is restored using well-seismic data,and the reservoir distribution is predicted.The prediction results have been verified by the latest results of exploration wells and tests,which provide an important reference for the prediction of thin dolomite reservoirs under similar geological setting.

文摘Cenozoic trachytes are characteristic of some active volcanic fields in China.In particular,the origin and mechanisms of the evolution of trachytes from the Tianchi(Changbaishan)volcano(TV,China/North Korea)are poorly known.Here,we present new geochronological,geochemical and isotopic data on two trachytic suites outcropping on the northern and southern upper slopes of TV.Detailed zircon laser ablation-multicollector-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry(LA-MC-ICP-MS)U-Pb dating,Rb-Sr isochron dating of plagioclase and hornblende,^(40)Ar/^(39)Ar chronology with mineral chemistry,whole-rock element and Sr-Nd-Pb isotope data are used to explore their origins and evolutionary mechanisms during the late Middle Pleistocene.Our data indicate that the trachytes mainly consist of sanidine,orthoclase and plagioclase,with minor albite,quartz and hornblende.They formed at 0.353-0.346 Ma(lava flow from the northern slope)and 0.383-0.311 Ma(lava flow from the southern slope),respectively.The TV trachytes are characterized by high K_(2)O/Na_(2)O and AR values,with low A/CNK and Mg~#values.They are enriched in rare earth elements(REEs;except Eu),depleted in Sr and Ba,crystallizing at 742-858℃.The TV trachytes have high(^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr)_i values(0.70776-0.71195),positiveε_(Nd)(t)values(0.61-2.93)and radiogenic^(206)Pb/^(204)Pb values(17.515-17.806).These values are similar to those of the Pleistocene and Holocene TV trachytes.Geochemical data indicate that they were formed by fractional crystallization from a basaltic melt and assimilated upper crust material.The trace element pattern of the studied trachytes is consistent with an evolution from basaltic melts representative of an enriched mantle source.The vent from which the trachytic magma was erupted probably collapsed inside the caldera during the TV'Millennium'eruption(ME)in 946 AD.The contemporaneous emission of basaltic and trachytic magma during the Middle-Late Pleistocene suggests the coexistence of fissural basaltic volcanism and central-type trachytic volcanism,the latter of which was associated with a magma chamber in the upper crust during the TV cone-construction stage.

文摘Situated in the semi-arid regions of North China,the Nihewan Basin documents the fluvio-lacustrine sequence and Pleistocene archaeological sites,offering an excellent opportunity to investigate human adaptation to environmental change in East Asia,especially in North China.However,paleoenvironmental datasets from Middle Pleistocene archaeological sites are not fully understood.Focusing on the evidence from the 0.63-0.49 Ma-old site of Jijiazhuang(Nihewan Basin,North China),this paper presents the results of various environmental indicators from the site context.Moreover,it explores the links between hominin behavioral adaptations and ecological variability during the extra-long interglacial period in North China.Sedimentological features of the excavated section indicate that the site was formed in the margin of the Nihewan paleolake.Based on well-constructed pollen,sediment grain size,color reflectance,and major geochemical element analyses,five stages of environmental changes were identified during site formation.This study indicates that hominins occupied the site at the early part of Stage 2,when the Nihewan paleolake had a relatively low water level and the climate was temperate,with strong weathering intensity dominated by wooded grassland landscapes.In conclusion,the results suggest that the extra-long duration of interglacial or mild stadial climate events(MISs 15-13)in the Northern Hemisphere may have provided favorable conditions for increased technological innovations and adaptive strategies among Middle Pleistocene hominins in the Nihewan Basin even in North China.

文摘In this study,the climatology and long-term trends of middle atmospheric temperatures at mid-latitudes are investigated using Rayleigh/Sodium lidar observations collected from January 2010 to December 2021 over Hefei,China(32°N,117°E).The seasonal variations and vertical profiles of lidar-derived temperatures demonstrate strong agreement with temperature measurements from the Microwave Limb Sounder(MLS)instrument on the Earth Observing System(EOS)Aura satellite.In terms of seasonal variation,middle atmospheric temperatures primarily exhibit annual oscillations(AO)and semi-annual oscillations(SAO).Harmonic analysis of the lidar and MLS temperature data reveals close phase alignment for both AO and SAO,with AO amplitudes ranging from 2 to 6 K,and SAO amplitudes from 1 to 4 K.The dependence of temperature on solar forcing was analyzed using the F10.7 index as a proxy,showing positive solar response coefficients at all altitudes,with a maximum of 15±1.1 K/100 SFU observed near 42–44 km.After removing the temperature response to solar cycle variations,a cooling trend in mid-latitude temperatures is evident across all altitudes,ranging from 3 to 6 K/decade.

文摘Changes in river cross-section morphology have decisive influences on the flood discharge and sand transport capacity of rivers;thus,these changes strongly reflect the vitality of a river.In this paper,based on the river cross-section and water and sediment data of two different periods(1974−1987 and 2007−2021),the trend analysis,change-point analysis and sediment rating curve method were used to analyze the change process of river cross-section morphology and its response to streamflow and sediment changes in the main river stream of the Yellow River at the Longmen hydrological station.From 1974 to 1987(except in 1977),the riverbed experi-enced siltation,and the riverbed elevation rose.Conversely,from 2007 to 2021,the riverbed experienced scouring,and the riverbed el-evation gradually decreased.The cross-section shape changed from rectangular to U-shaped(deeper on the right side)at the Longmen cross-section.The changes in streamflow and sediment processes significantly impacted the evolution of river cross-section.Stream-flow(P<0.05),sediment discharge(P<0.01),and the sediment load coefficients(P<0.01)decreased significantly.The relationship between the water depth and sediment load coefficients followed a power function.The decreasing trend in sediment discharge was sig-nificantly stronger than that in streamflow.Suspended sediment particles tended to become finer.The sediment rating curve indicates that the sediment supply from upstream decreased while the erosive power in the river channel increased,leading to a gradual decline in riverbed elevation at the Longmen cross-section from 2007 to 2021.These findings help us better understand the impacts of ecological restoration on changes in river streamflow and sediment during river evolution.

文摘The Qinling orogenic belt in central China underwent long-term tectonic evolution during an amalgamation between the North China and South China cratons.However,intense compressional deformation and uplift erosion resulted in the transformation and disappearance of much geological record from the Qinling orogenic belt,and the tectonic evolution of this belt remains poorly constrained during the Triassic.Located in the northernmost margin of the South China Craton,the Sichuan Basin preserves the complete Triassic sedimentary succession,and can provide significant information for understanding the Triassic tectonic evolution of the Qinling orogenic belt.We present detrital zircon U-Pb dating,trace element and in situ Lu-Hf isotope data for the Middle Triassic Leikoupo Formation and the Late Triassic Xujiahe Formation samples from the eastern Sichuan Basin,South China.The detrital zircon U-Pb ages of the Leikoupo Formation show seven age clusters of 280-242,350-300,500-400,1000-800,2000-1750,2100-2000 and 2600-2400 Ma,while those of the Xujiahe Formation show five age clusters of 300-200,500-350,1050-950,2000-1750 and 2600-2400 Ma.Combined with published paleocurrent and paleogeographic data,the sediments of the Leikoupo Formation are interpreted to be sourced from the North China Craton,Yangtze Craton and North Qinling orogenic belt,and the potential main source regions of the Xujiahe Formation included the South and North Qinling orogenic belts.Provenance analysis indicates that the North Qinling orogenic belt was in inherited uplift and coeval denudation in the Middle Triassic.The proportion of the detritus formed in the South Qinling orogenic belt increases gradually from the Leikoupo to Xujiahe formations.This significant provenance change indicates that rapid tectonic uplift and extensive denudation of the South Qinling orogenic belt occurred in the early Late Triassic,which is related to the collision between the North China and South China cratons during the Triassic.
文摘BACKGROUND Middle pancreatectomy(MP)is a surgical procedure that removes non-invasive lesions in the pancreatic neck and body,allowing for the preservation of pan-creatic function.However,MP is associated with a higher risk of postoperative complications,and there’s no clear consensus on which anastomotic method is preferable.In recent years,our team has developed a new method called inter-locking main pancreatic duct-jejunal(IMPD-J)internal bridge drainage to MP.AIM To compare perioperative and postoperative outcomes in patients who underwent IMPD-J bridge drainage and those underwent traditional duct-to-mucosa pancreatojejunostomy.METHODS Patients who underwent MP in our hospital between October 1,2011 and July 31,2023 were enrolled in this study.Patients were divided into two groups based on their pancreatojejunostomy technique:IMPD-J bridge drainage group and duct-to-mucosa pancreatojejunostomy group.Demographic data(age,gender,body mass index,hypertension,diabetes,etc.)and perioperative indicators[operation time,intraoperative bleeding,clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula(CR-POPF),delayed gastric emptying,etc.]were recorded and analyzed statist-ically.RESULTS A total of 53 patients were enrolled in this study,including 23 in the IMPD-J Bridge Drainage group and 30 in the traditional duct-to-mucosa pancreatojejun-ostomy group.There were no significant differences in demographic or preope-rative characteristics between the groups.Compared to traditional duct-to-mucosa pancreaticojejunostomy,IMPD-J bridge drainage had a significant shorter operation time(4.3±1.3 hours vs 5.8±1.8 hours,P=0.002),nasogastric tube retention days(5.3±1.7 days vs 6.5±2.0 days,P=0.031),lower incidence of delayed gastric emptying(8.7%vs 36.7%,P=0.019),and lower incidence of CR-POPF(39.1%vs 70.0%,P=0.025).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that pancreaticojejunostomy type(odds ratio=4.219,95%confidence interval=1.238-14.379,P=0.021)and plasma prealbumin(odds ratio=1.132,95%confidence interval=1.001-1.281,P=0.049)were independent risk factor for CR-POPF.In IMPD-J bridge drainage group,only one patient experienced recurrent pancreatitis due to the large diameter of the silicone tube and had it removed six months after surgery.CONCLUSION Compared to traditional duct-to-mucosa pancreatojejunostomy,IMPD-J bridge drainage has the advantages of simplicity and fewer perioperative complications,with favorable long-term outcomes.

文摘Integrating local cultural resources into language teaching is a significant trend in fostering students’core competencies.This study addresses the challenge of effectively implementing China’s educational policy of“Core Competencies for English as a Subject”in middle school classrooms by leveraging the unique revolutionary(“Red”)culture of Tangshan City.The research developed and tested a pedagogical model that utilizes Tangshan’s rich Red Culture heritage-such as the Kailuan Miners’Movement and the Xifengkou Great Wall Resistance relics-as authentic content for English language learning.Employing a mixed-methods approach,including literature review,fieldwork,action research,and case analysis in partner middle schools,the project involved designing thematic teaching resources(e.g.,lesson plans,micro-lectures)and implementing interactive activities like role-playing and project-based learning.Findings indicate that this localized approach significantly enhanced students’engagement,cultural awareness,critical thinking,and language application skills,effectively addressing the four dimensions of English core competencies:language ability,cultural awareness,thinking capacity,and learning ability.The study concludes that the“Local Culture-Integrated Core Competency Model”provides a practical,replicable framework for synergizing values education with language acquisition.It offers valuable insights for educators worldwide seeking to incorporate local history and values into foreign language curricula,promoting deeper contextual learning.

文摘Studies have shown that vascular dysfunction is closely related to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease.The middle temporal gyrus region of the brain is susceptible to pronounced impairment in Alzheimer's disease.Identification of the molecules involved in vascular aberrance of the middle temporal gyrus would support elucidation of the mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's disease and discove ry of novel targets for intervention.We carried out single-cell transcriptomic analysis of the middle temporal gyrus in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease and healthy controls,revealing obvious changes in vascular function.CellChat analysis of intercellular communication in the middle temporal gyrus showed that the number of cell interactions in this region was decreased in Alzheimer's disease patients,with altered intercellular communication of endothelial cells and pericytes being the most prominent.Differentially expressed genes were also identified.Using the CellChat results,AUCell evaluation of the pathway activity of specific cells showed that the obvious changes in vascular function in the middle temporal gyrus in Alzheimer's disease were directly related to changes in the vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)A-VEGF receptor(VEGFR)2 pathway.AUCell analysis identified subtypes of endothelial cells and pericytes directly related to VEGFA-VEGFR2 pathway activity.Two subtypes of middle temporal gyrus cells showed significant alteration in AD:endothelial cells with high expression of Erb-B2 receptor tyrosine kinase 4(ERBB4^(high))and pericytes with high expression of angiopoietin-like 4(ANGPTL4^(high)).Finally,combining bulk RNA sequencing data and two machine learning algorithms(least absolute shrinkage and selection operator and random forest),four characteristic Alzheimer's disease feature genes were identified:somatostatin(SST),protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor type 3(PTPN3),glutinase(GL3),and tropomyosin 3(PTM3).These genes were downregulated in the middle temporal gyrus of patients with Alzheimer's disease and may be used to target the VEGF pathway.Alzheimer's disease mouse models demonstrated consistent altered expression of these genes in the middle temporal gyrus.In conclusion,this study detected changes in intercellular communication between endothelial cells and pericytes in the middle temporal gyrus and identified four novel feature genes related to middle temporal gyrus and vascular functioning in patients with Alzheimer's disease.These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's disease and present novel treatment targets.
文摘In 2024,Ji Qiang et al.established a new species,namely,Homo yunxianensis,based on the fossil human cranium(EV9001)unearthed from the Xuetangliangzi site of Yunxian County,Hubei Province,China,and characterized by developing 16 teeth on the maxilla,two slightly curved,thick brow ridges,but no sagittal ridge along the cranial midline.Homo yunxianensis developed the skull of type C,which was considered as the descendant of Homo erectus and later evolved into Homo orientalis with 31 to 29 teeth orally.In this paper,we restudy the skull(the holotype)of the Jinniushan man,which was found in the cave crevasse deposit(Point A)on the southeast slope of the Jinniushan Hill in Yingkou City,Liaoning Province by the teachers and students of the Archaeology Department of Peking University in 1984.The skull shows some distinct characters as follows:the cranial fornix is medium tall;the sagittal ridge does not developed;the brow ridges are thick and slightly curved;the upper jaw has 16 teeth preserved in situ;and the posterior end(the transition part)is obtuse in shape.These features mentioned above show that the Jinniushan cranium represents a new species:Homo jinniushanensis sp.nov.,rather than Homo erectus,Homo yunxianensis,and archaic or early Homo sapiens.We suggested that Homo jinniushanensis sp.nov.is probably the intermediate form transitional from Homo yunxianensis to Homo(H.)sapiens.
