Microstructures and mechanical properties of LZ83?xY alloys containingI-phase andW-phase were investigated by XRD, OM, SEM and EDS. The experimental results show that the content ofI-phase andW-phase changes by varying Zn/Y mass ratio in the LZ83?xY alloys. The cohesion ofI-phase/α-Mg eutectic pockets can enhance the strength in the as-cast LZ83?0.5Y and LZ83?1.0Y alloys, while theW-phase has no obvious strengthening effect on the LZ83?1.5Y alloy. In the extruded alloys, the I-phase andW-phase were extruded into the particles with nanoscale size in theβ-Li matrix phase. The dispersion strengthening of W-phase was more obvious because of the higher volume fraction. The ultimate tensile strength of extruded LZ83?1.5Y alloy is up to 238 MPa while the elongation is up to 20%. 展开更多

Nearly undamaged joints of electron beam welded(EBW)dual-phase Mg-8Li-3Al-2Zn-0.5Y alloy were achieved with joint coefficients exceeding 95%.All specimens were fractured at the base metal(BM),implying a significant departure from conventional fracture modes of welded joints.The fusion zone(FZ)consists of ultrafine acicular α-Mg and equiaxed β-Li,with grain sizes reduced by approximately 90% and 80%,respectively,compared to the base metal.This results in a significant increase in microhardness of about 40%.A unique multiphase mixture was observed in the heat-affected zone(HAZ),which mainly consists of lamellar eutectoid structures,fine precipitates zone,and numerous fine Mg_(3)(Al,Zn)particles.This mixture was transformed from typical Li(Al,Zn)(a common softening phase)undergoing atomic diffusion and solid-state phase transformation during welding.It introduces a synergistic strengthening effect,making the heat-affected zone no longer the weakest part of the joint.This study provides valuable insights into the electron beam welding technology for Mg-Li alloys and offers theoretical support for manufacturing high-quality joints. 展开更多

Ultrasonic vibration was introduced into the Mg-8Li-3A1 alloy melt during its solidification process. The microstructure, corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of the Mg-8Li-3A1 alloy under ultrasonic vibration were investigated. The experiment results show that the morphology of a phase is modified from coarse rosette-like structure to fine globular one with the application of ultrasonic vibration. The fine globular structure is obtained especially when the power is 170 W, and the refining effect also gets better with prolonging the ultrasonic treatment time. The corrosion resistance of the alloy with 170 W of ultrasonic vibration for 90 s is improved apparently compared with the alloy without ultrasonic vibration. The mechanical properties of alloys with ultrasonic vibration are also both improved apparently. The tensile strength and elongation of alloy improve by 9.5% and 45.7%, respectively, with 170 W of ultrasonic treatment for 90 s. 展开更多

研究了Mg-8Li-3Al-Y合金在温度为280℃时多道次不同压下率的轧制变形以及轧后热处理,通过金相(OM)显微组织观察、力学性能测试、扫描电子显微镜(SEM)断口形貌分析的方法,获得此合金不同压下率及轧后热处理的组织性能变化规律。研究结果... 研究了Mg-8Li-3Al-Y合金在温度为280℃时多道次不同压下率的轧制变形以及轧后热处理,通过金相(OM)显微组织观察、力学性能测试、扫描电子显微镜(SEM)断口形貌分析的方法,获得此合金不同压下率及轧后热处理的组织性能变化规律。研究结果表明:随着压下率的增加,轧后α相沿轧制方向明显延长,晶粒明显细化,在压下率为80%时,形成了强烈的纤维组织。热轧板材经350℃×2 h退火处理后,大部分α相形成了"竹节状"组织,并有一定数量的球状α相。压下率为80%热轧板材的抗拉强度、延伸率以及维氏硬度分别为195.75×106Pa,18%和HV74.84,经退火后热轧板材的抗拉强度、延伸率、维氏硬度分别为188.09×106Pa,34%和HV66.01;压下率为80%的热轧Mg-8Li-3Al-Y合金板材的拉伸断裂方式为准解理断裂,退火后合金板材的拉伸断裂方式为解理+韧窝混合断裂。这说明轧后热处理可以使合金在小幅度地降低硬度和强度的情况下,大幅度地提高合金的塑性。 展开更多

The ultra-light Mg–8Li–3Al–2Zn–0.5Y(LAZ832–0.5Y)thin wall parts with excellent performances were successfully fabricated by Gas Tungsten Arc Welding(GTAW)in this study.The microstructure of the top,middle and bottom regions of the thin wall fabricated under various conditions was examined and the mechanical properties of these thin walls were tested.The results showed that much finer microstructure was obtained by GTAW than that made by conventional casting method.In the as-deposited samples,the needle-like shapedα-Mg phase emerged at the top of the thin wall whereas the bar-shapedα-Mg phase showed up in the middle and bottom regions of the thin wall due to the complex thermal history.The Al2Y phase was dispersed throughout bothα-Mg andβ-Li while the AlLi phase was mainly located in theβ-Li.The best combination of ultimate tensile strength(UTS),yield strength(YS)and elongation to fracture of the as-deposited thin wall were 218.9 MPa,171.4 MPa and 20.9%,respectively,which was manufactured under the optimal condition of 120 A 1800 mm/min 220 mm/min.After solid solution treatment at 350℃for 4 h,the UTS increased slightly by 13%but the YS increased significantly by 65%compared with the samples before solid solution.The solution of the AlLi phase was believed to be the main strengthening mechanism.It is interesting to note that the UTS and YS of the as-deposited sample was better than those of the as-cast sample while the opposite situation took place after solid solution treatment. 展开更多

The microstructure of Mg-8Zn-4Al-1Ca aged alloy was investigated by TEM and HRTEM. The results show that the hardening produced in the Mg-8Zn-4Al-1Ca alloy is considerably higher than that in the Mg-8Zn-4A1 alloy. A dense dispersion of disc-like Ca2Mg6Zn3 precipitates are formed in Mg-8Zn-4Al-1Ca alloy aged at 160 ℃ for 16 h. In addition, the lattice distortions, honeycomb-looking Moir&#233; fringes, edge dislocations and dislocation loop also exist in the microstructure. The precipitates of alloy aged at 160 ℃ for 48 h are coarse disc-like and fine dispersed grainy. When the alloy is subjected to aging at 160 ℃ for 227 h, the microstructure consists of numerous MgZn2 precipitates and Ca2Mg6Zn3 precipitates. All the analyses show that Ca is a particularly effective trace addition in improving the age-hardening and postponing the formation of MgZn2 precipitates in Mg-8Zn-4Al alloy aged at 160 ℃. 展开更多
