Three wheelers(3 Ws)are widely used in low and middle-income countries,particularly in Asia Pacific region as a comparatively cheap method to passenger transportation and goods delivery.The frequent use of 3 Ws in day-to-day activities have caused a large number of accidents causing injuries to their passengers.Less research has been carried out to identify the reasons behind 3 W accidents.The survey carried out prior to this research has identified that the stability control and speed control are the two key factors which the 3 W accidents attributed to.3 W fork is the main mechanical element that controls the balance and the stability of the vehicle.A damaged 3 W fork(a physical damage or a slight deformation)unbalances the 3 W and had been identified as one of the reasons for large number of accidents.Therefore,correctly reforming the damaged fork is of paramount importance,when concerning the safety of the 3 Ws.Traditionally,both heat-treating and cold-working techniques are used in the mending processes.Not only this manual-labor repairing process weakens the strength of the fork,but also the profile produced is inaccurate.This paper discusses a hydraulic operated fork mending machine with an image processing technique to reform the damaged forks in 3 Ws.An image comparator-based imaging technique is used for this machine vision-based visually guided fork repairing process.Three cameras have been used to capture the images from three perpendicular directions.A contour sketch of the original fork(before the deformation occurs)has been compared against the faulty fork,to assist the worker to carry out the repairing process.The preliminary experimentations have shown that the proposed technique can improve the repositioning of the camber angle by repairing the damaged fork. 展开更多

Climate Change in the Nile Delta from Prehistoric to the Modern Era and Their Impact on Soil and Vegetation in Some Archaeological Sites 被引量:2

Since the time of the rainy Holocene, there have been periods of consecutive rain and drought on Egypt. Study of carbon 14 in the long-lived coniferous tree rings could see activity in the sun (spots and solar flares) during eleven years cycle, as well as knowledge of possible flooding of the Nile and the periods of increase and decrease of the extent necessary to meet the soil around Lake Qarun in Fayoum-Egypt. From historical records in ancient Egypt and Muslim countries, the possible link between periods of the disappearance of sunspots on the solar disc for several years and is known to inch lower level and role of the minimum level of Mandour creeping ice on Southern Europe to the Mediterranean Sea, and the offset of the drought in North Africa and the Sahel region of Africa during the last thousand years. Analyzed pollen fossils of the overlapped layers of soil in two areas of the Delta were Avaris in Sharkiya Province and Mendes in Dakahliya Province. The study pointed out that there are differences due to environmental conditions, demonstrated by the analysis of soil pH, increased electrical connectivity also, the evidence of sulfates and chlorides indicate high salinity of Mendes and Avaris. Also the analysis of fossil pollen of successive layers of soil for both regions resulted in findings of fossil pollen of the species Chenopodiaceae by 51.2%, in Mendes, while, 7% in the Avaris. This is strong evidence of the existence conditions of salt in Mendes than Avaris archaeological sites. 展开更多

The process of development of the Amazon, in post-1970, has led to serious socio-economic and environmental problems, such as the struggle for land ownership and huge deforestation. Conservation units, such as extractive reserves (RESEX), appear as sustainable development alternatives for the region. Today, solid waste has become one of the main environmental problems, particularly in forest areas. The aim of the present work is to analyze the production and destination of solid waste in the Chico Mendes RESEX, state of Acre, in the periods 1996/1997, 2005/2006 and 2014/2015. We work with the methodology of the ASPF project, developed at the Federal University of Acre (UFAC), based on indicators of economic results, as well as the production and destination of solid waste. The results indicate a considerable increase in the generation of solid waste in the forest, especially of plastics coming from goods acquired in the market and without adequate disposal. 展开更多

In the contemporary world, there are three interconnected global environmental crises (climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution). The common thread is the unsustainable pattern of production and consumption, which leads to international and local socio-environmental injustices. Seeking environmental justice in Brazil, the success of the rubber tapper social movement stands out, culminating in the Chico Mendes Extractive Reserve (RESEX) implementation in the Brazilian Amazon. However, the residents have struggled to generate income to help their families’ social reproduction. Conventional payment instruments for environmental services have failed to remunerate the socio-environmental attributes of sustainable products adequately. This paper aims to carry out a socio-environmental economic-ecological valuation of the main extractive products of the RESEX in 2021/2022. To this end, a methodology calculates the cost of social reproduction of rural family production, being a non-market price index reference for monetary valuation. The results indicate the acceptability of the socio-environmental valuation of native rubber and Brazil nuts, as they can guarantee environmental conservation, improve the families’ well-being with adequate income for their social reproduction, as well as value attributes outside the market, which helps in the fight against further expropriation or enclosure of rural families in the Amazon. 展开更多
