Melamine formaldehyde foam(MFF)generates many poisonous chemicals through the traditional recycling methods for organic resin wastes.Herein,a high MFF degradation ratio of ca.97 wt.%was achieved under the mild conditions(160℃)in a NaOH–H2O system with ammelide and ammeline as the main degradation products.The alkaline solvent had an obvious corrosion effect for MFF,as indicated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The reaction process and products distribution were studied by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and ^(13)C nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR).Besides,the MFF degradation products that have the similar chemical structures and bonding performances to those of melamine can be directly used as the raw material for synthesis of melamine urea-formaldehyde resins(MUFs).Moreover,the degradation system demonstrated here showed the high degradation efficiency after reusing for 7 times.The degradation process generated few harmful pollutants and no pre-or post-treatments were required,which proves its feasibility in the safe removal or recovery of waste MFF. 展开更多

The recycling of plastics is a significant global concern.Due to the thermosetting properties of melamineformaldehyde(MF)resin plastics,which make heating and melting difficult,their recycling and reuse pose substantial challenges.In this study,we developed nitrogen-doped(N-doped)carbon materials through scalable carbonization of MF resin plastic waste.This metal-free N-doped carbon catalyst achieved a hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2))production rate of 971.6 mmol gcatalyst^(-1)h^(-1)with a Faradaic efficiency for H_(2)O_(2)(FEH_(2)O_(2))exceeding 90%under acidic conditions.Additionally,a flow cell utilizing this carbon catalyst demonstrated a production rate of 11.3 mol cm^(-2)h^(-1)(22.5 mol g_(catalyst)^(-1)h^(-1))and maintained a record-high current density of approximately 530 mA cm^(-2)over 300 h.In-situ electrochemical surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations revealed the presence of porphyrin-like carbon defects,which serve as active sites for the continuous and stable generation of^(*)OOH species.The nitrogen-doped carbon materials obtained from large-scale carbonization of MF plastic waste exhibit abundant active sites,making them highly promising electrocatalysts for the two-electron oxygen reduction reaction(2e^(-)ORR). 展开更多

Proton exchange membrane fuel cells suffer from the sluggish kinetics of the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)and the high cost of Pt catalysts.In the present work,a high‐performance ORR catalystbased on Fe,N,S‐doped porous carbon(FeNS‐PC)was synthesized using melamine formaldehyderesin as C and N precursors,Fe(SCN)3as Fe and S precursors,and CaCl2as a template via a two‐stepheat treatment without a harsh template removal step.The results show that the catalyst treated at900℃(FeNS‐PC‐900)had a high surface area of775m2/g,a high mass activity of10.2A/g in anacidic medium,and excellent durability;the half‐wave potential decreased by only20mV after10000potential cycles.The FeNS‐PC‐900catalyst was used as the cathode in a proton exchangemembrane fuel cell and delivered a peak power density of0.49W/cm2.FeNS‐PC‐900therefore hasgood potential for use in practical applications. 展开更多
