文摘Modern western medicine typically focuses on treating specific symptoms or diseases, and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)emphasizes the interconnections of the body’s various systems under external environment and takes a holistic approach to preventing and treating diseases.Phenomics was initially introduced to the field of TCM in 2008 as a new discipline that studies the laws of integrated and dynamic changes of human clinical phenomes under the scope of the theories and practices of TCM based on phenomics. While TCM Phenomics 1.0 has initially established a clinical phenomic system centered on Zhenghou(a TCM definition of clinical phenome),bottlenecks remain in data standardization, mechanistic interpretation, and precision intervention. Here,we systematically elaborates on the theoretical foundations, technical pathways, and future challenges of integrating digital medicine with TCM phenomics under the framework of“TCM phenomics 2.0”,which is supported by digital medicine technologies such as artificial intelligence, wearable devices, medical digital twins, and multi-omics integration. This framework aims to construct a closed-loop system of“Zhenghou–Phenome–Mechanism–Intervention”and to enable the digitization, standardization, and precision of disease diagnosis and treatment. The integration of digital medicine and TCM phenomics not only promotes the modernization and scientific transformation of TCM theory and practice but also offers new paradigms for precision medicine. In practice, digital tools facilitate multi-source clinical data acquisition and standardization, while AI and big data algorithms help reveal the correlations between clinical Zhenghou phenomes and molecular mechanisms, thereby improving scientific rigor in diagnosis, efficacy evaluation, and personalized intervention.Nevertheless, challenges persist, including data quality and standardization issues, shortage of interdisciplinary talents, and insufficiency of ethical and legal regulations.Future development requires establishing national data-sharing platforms, strengthening international collaboration, fostering interdisciplinary professionals, and improving ethical and legal frameworks.Ultimately, this approach seeks to build a new disease identification and classification system centered on phenomes and to achieve the inheritance, innovation, and modernization of TCM diagnostic and therapeutic patterns.

文摘This paper discusses the engagement of modern Western medicine in the development of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)during the 1950s,specifically in its efforts on and research in modernizing TCM.Through complementing the studies of the 1950s with data and cases that have not been well studied in the previous publications, the author argues that modern Western medicine played an active and instrumental role in modernizing and scientizing TCM in the 1950s.TCM obtained attention not as merely a national treasure but underwent fast development of modernization in the 1950s.In modernizing TCM,Western medicine was not a bystander but served as an active partner. The professionals of Western medicine made good use of their strength in scientific studies in the development of TCM.Though scientization is part of modernization, the paper points out the scientific research by providing cases in the TCM research boom and discusses the significance. The scientific research not only linked TCM with modern scientific concepts and research methodology, but also expanded the research scope of the Western medicine, leading to breakthroughs in TCM medicines in the 1960s–1970s and to building the landscape of medicine in China.

文摘Qin Medicine, referring to the traditional medicinal system and geo-authentic herbs originating from Shaanxi Province and its surrounding regions, has played a pivotal role in the evolution of Chinese medicine.Rooted in the distinct biogeographical landscape of the“Three Qin”region-comprising northern Shaanxi’s Loess Plateau, the Guanzhong Plain, and the southern Qinling-Bashan Mountains-Qin Medicine embodies the synergistic convergence of endemic biodiversity, empirical therapeutic traditions, and regional cultural identity[1].The distinct biogeographical landscape of the“Three Qin”region profoundly shaped Qin Medicine’s development. The arid Loess Plateau of northern Shaanxi, characterized by drought-tolerant flora, yields herbs such as Huangqi(Astragalus membranaceus)and Dahuang(Rheum palmatum)in harsh environments. In contrast, the biodiverse, humid Qinling-Bashan Mountains fostered a wealth of herbs for clearing heat, resolving dampness, and calming the spirit, such as Huanglian(Coptis chinensis),Fuling(Poria cocos),and Tianma(Gastrodia elata). The fertile Guanzhong Plain supported the cultivation of herbs such as Baishao(Paeonia lactiflora)and Danggui(Angelica sinensis)[2].This article traces the historical trajectory of Qin Medicine, systematically analyzing its formation, development, and modern advancements.
文摘Component-based Chinese Medicine(CCM)stands as a pivotal endeavor in modernizing traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).By integrating classical TCM theories with modern scientific methodologies,CCM aims to achieve herbal formulas with“defined components, clarified mechanisms, and controllable quality.”This approach not only transitions TCM development from empirical tradition to evidence-based science but also positions it for global recognition.Drawing on recent advancements in CCM,this editorial explores key insights and challenges shaping its trajectory.

文摘Microneedles(MNs)have attracted increasing attention as a transdermal delivery system(TDDS)[1].However,traditional volatile Chinese medicines cannot be dissolved in conventional soluble MN materials, such as hyaluronic acid and chitosan, making it difficult for many traditional Chinese medicine ingredients to be applied to MN.Elemene(ELE)was successfully isolated from Curcuma longa, and has numerous antitumor and curative effects[2].

文摘Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with its millenniaold wisdom rooted in the principles of holistic Yin-Yang balance and “Bianzheng Lunzhi”[辨证论治, Zhenghou(证候) differentiation and treatment], has long offered a unique lens to understand human health and disease. However, the modern scientific interpretation of TCM remains at the stage of “knowing that it works, but not knowing why it works”.
文摘Chinese medicine, with its rich historical roots and holistic approach, has been a fundamental aspect of healthcare in East Asia and is now gaining global recognition.Founded on centuries of empirical knowledge and philosophical insight,Chinese medicine draws heavily from classical texts to guide its practices in herbal medicine and acupuncture.Despite its cultural and historical significance, integrating Chinese medicine into global healthcare systems presents challenges, notably the need for evidence-based practices to enhance credibility, ensure patient safety, and foster broader acceptance within the medical community. This paper explores how Chinese medicine can adopt evidence-based practices by incorporating principles of Western medicine into its research methodologies. It reviews the origins and philosophical foundations of Chinese medicine, examining its reliance on classical texts and empirical methods. The paper also highlights the differences between the personalised approach of Chinese medicine, which tailors treatments to individual needs, and the standardised protocols typical of Western medicine.Additionally,it addresses methodological challenges in Chinese medicine research, such as inconsistent diagnostic criteria and insufficient design rigour. To bridge these gaps, innovative research methodologies that respect the unique variability of Chinese medicine are needed.By adopting evidence-based practices and rigorous scientific validation,Chinese medicine can enhance its legitimacy and facilitate its integration into the global healthcare landscape.
