Industrial activities have caused widespread arsenic(As)contamination in soil and medicinal crops across south-ern Asia. This study constructed interplanting systems combing medicinal crops with Pteris vittata L.,aiming to mitigate the risk of As exposure in medicinal crops, while simultaneously achieving ecological remediation of contaminated soil. The results revealed that interplanting with P.vittata significantly enhanced the yield of Gynos-temma pentaphyllum by 31.90%(P<0.05)compared with monoculture systems.Under monoculture conditions, the As concentration in G.pentaphyllum leaves reached 2.34 mg/kg,exceeding the national food safety standard(GB2762–2017,2 mg/kg).However,interplanting with P.vittata effectively reduced the As concentration in G.pentaphyllum leaves to 1.82 mg/kg.Furthermore,the interplanting of P.vittata with Rhus chinensis significantly inhibited As translocation from belowground to aboveground tissues in R.chinensis.Compared to monoculture, the stem biomass of P.vittata was significantly increased by 57.50%and 70.32%when interplanted with G.pentaphyllum and Cassia obtusifolia L.(P<0.05).So the As enrichment of P.vittata was enhanced in interplanting systems, which is beneficial for the As removal from contaminated soil. The study demonstrated that interplant-ing primarily regulates plant As uptake through modifications of rhizosphere physicochemical properties and As bioavailability, especially for water-soluble As that is easily absorbed by plants. In conclusion, the interplant-ing models integrating medicinal crops and P.vittata can achieve the goal of“remediating while producing”in As-contaminated soil. 展开更多

Presenting and definition the most important points about nanoparticles for medicinal plants and the most important vital applications of them. The scoping review was performed according to systemic style. The research articles included the selected studies dealing with primary information on nanotechnology and medicinal plants published between 2000 and 2023. The search was at grassroots platforms such as Web of Science and PubMed. Many studies correlated the properties of plants’ nanoparticles such as stability, surface area, and high reactivity, and their small size. It was found that nanoparticles (NPs) have size ranging from some nanometers to 100 nm and their morphology is controlled because of their tiny size, NPs have a big surface area, which makes them suitable for many applications. Green nanotechnology has the potential to become an industry with very high green credentials as it is increasingly commercialized. In general, nanoparticles derived from medicinal plants offer a promising avenue for various bio-applications. Their green synthesis, biocompatibility, and potential therapeutic properties make them an attractive area of research with the potential to impact fields ranging from medicine to agriculture. 展开更多

Animal medicines, which boast a lengthy history as treasures of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),frequently encounter safety challenges stemming from the accumulation of heavy metals and harmful elements, such as arsenic(As)[1].The toxicity of As differs by species, especially inorganic arsenic(iAs),and current methods for assessing herbal risks based on total arsenic(tAs)content are insufficient[2].To address this, studies have focused on As contamination in TCMs,especially leeches.Widely used for anticoagulant and other pharmacological activities, leeches are susceptible to water contamination and high As levels due to immature farming technology[3].The aim of this study was to comprehensively analyze the distribution of tAs and toxic elements in leeches from multiple sources and batches. We used advanced analytical techniques(e.g.,liquid chromatography-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(LC-ICPMS))to accurately identify As forms. This study aims to investigate the biological effects at the exposure point through in vitro experiments(simulating physiological conditions)and assess the potential clinical risks associated with iAs. 展开更多

The self-assembled nanoparticles(SAN)formed during the decoction process of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)exhibit non-uniform particle sizes and a tendency for aggregation. Our group found that the p H-driven method can improve the self-assembly phenomenon of Herpetospermum caudigerum Wall.,and the SAN exhibited uniform particle size and demonstrated good stability. In this paper,we analyzed the interactions between the main active compound, herpetrione(Her),and its main carrier,Herpetospermum caudigerum Wall.polysaccharide(HCWP),along with their self-assembly mechanisms under different p H values. The binding constants of Her and HCWP increase with rising p H,leading to the formation of Her-HCWP SAN with a smaller particle size, higher zeta potential, and improved thermal stability. While the contributions of hydrogen bonding and electrostatic attraction to the formation of Her-HCWP SAN increase with rising p H,the hydrophobic force consistently plays a dominant role. This study enhances our scientific understanding of the self-assembly phenomenon of TCM improved by p H driven method. 展开更多
