As to media activism, there is a broad spectrum, including graffiti, radio activism, community media, visual activism, tactical media (Garcia & Lovink, 1997), and more recently, media interventions questioning the workings of biopower (Da Costa & Philip, 2008). On the other hand, debates on media competency and media literacy have been going on for a few decades. Although media have also been conceptualized as media of resistance or critique in informal contexts as well as in formal education, lively exchanges of concepts and ideas are comparatively seldom in respective traditions. The paper aims at exploring challenges for media education and interfaces between both fields.展开更多

There is limited literature regarding the predictors of screen media use among children. This study aimed to examine the association between selected predictors and screen media use among children aged 3 - 13. The findings of this study are based on 192 children aged 3 - 13 and their caregivers recruited from Facebook and WhatsApp groups. A descriptive cross-sectional design was employed. The participants filled a demographic questionnaire and the Problematic Media Use Measure Short Form to obtain data about parents’ and children characteristics, screen time and problematic use of media. The screen time for 83% of the children was more than two hours. Mobile ownership (beta (β) = 0.22) and conflict about mobile use (beta (β) = 0.16) have significantly predicted the child total screen time. Child age (beta (β) = 0.17) and conflict about mobile use (beta (β) = −0.33) have significantly predicted the problematic use of media. Most children in the current study exceeded the recommended screen time. There is an urgent need to implement interventions that mitigate children’s excessive use of media.展开更多

These platforms have become critical for sharing opinions and insights, influencing daily habits, and driving business, political, and economic decisions. Text posts are particularly significant, and natural language processing (NLP) has emerged as a powerful tool for analyzing such data. While traditional NLP methods have been effective for structured media, social media content poses unique challenges due to its informal and diverse nature. This has spurred the development of new techniques tailored for processing and extracting insights from unstructured user-generated text. One key application of NLP is the summarization of user comments to manage overwhelming content volumes. Abstractive summarization has proven highly effective in generating concise, human-like summaries, offering clear overviews of key themes and sentiments. This enhances understanding and engagement while reducing cognitive effort for users. For businesses, summarization provides actionable insights into customer preferences and feedback, enabling faster trend analysis, improved responsiveness, and strategic adaptability. By distilling complex data into manageable insights, summarization plays a vital role in improving user experiences and empowering informed decision-making in a data-driven landscape. This paper proposes a new implementation framework by fine-tuning and parameterizing Transformer Large Language Models to manage and maintain linguistic and semantic components in abstractive summary generation. The system excels in transforming large volumes of data into meaningful summaries, as evidenced by its strong performance across metrics like fluency, consistency, readability, and semantic coherence.展开更多

However, the sharp increase in social media usage has led to concerns about mental health and overall well-being. While social media can be valuable for staying connected with friends and being informed about the world, it can also bring about a multitude of problems, especially among the youth. This paper aims to examine available research on the relationship between social media and issues such as depression, anxiety, and cyberbullying among adolescents. Furthermore, it will explore how childhood maltreatment can affect how an individual interacts with social media. This paper not only explains how social media could have a negative effect on adolescents, with many of the aforementioned problems being linked to social media usage, but also how social media could also bring about some benefits. However, further research is needed to better understand the complexity of youth’s relationship with social media.展开更多

文摘Background:Resilience is crucial for medical college students to thrive in the highly stressful environment of medical education. However, the prevalence of problematic internet use(PIU)in this population may negatively impact their resilience. This study investigated the influence of problematic online gaming(PG)and problematic social media use(PSMU)on the resilience of medical college students in China. Methods:A sample of 5075 first-year medical college students from four Chinese universities was studied.PG served as the independent variable, resilience as the dependent variable, fatigue as the mediator, and PSMU as the moderator.Structural equation modeling was conducted using LISREL 8.80.Additionally,a moderated mediation model was evaluated using the jAMM module in jamovi 2.6.13.Results:The study’s findings revealed significant negative correlations between resilience and the variables of PG,PSMU,and fatigue.Fatigue mediated the relationship between PG and resilience(B=−0.04,95%CI=[−0.05,−0.03]).PSMU moderated the direct relationship between PG and resilience with the interaction term PG×PSMU significant(B=−0.004,t=−6.501,p<0.001)and the first stage(PG→fatigue)of the mediation with PG×PSMU significant(B=0.055,t=8.351,p<0.001).The detrimental effects of PG on resilience were more pronounced among individuals with lower levels of PSMU.Conclusion:This study concluded that addressing PIU,particularly PG,is essential for fostering resilience in medical college students. While PSMU itself is maladaptive, the underlying social media engagement may serve a protective role through social support in mitigating the adverse effects of PG on resilience.
文摘In the context of globalization and digitalization,English has emerged as the primary language for international communication, making fluent conversational English skills essential for personal and professional growth. The advent of We-Media,encompassing various online platforms, such as social media, blogs, and video content, has revolutionized the way English learners acquire and practice conversational skills. This paper explores the effective utilization of We-Media to enhance English conversational abilities, proposing practical strategies for both learners and educators.By integrating theories, such as second language acquisition, communicative language teaching, and media richness theory, the study highlights the strengths and challenges of We-Media in English learning.Through case studies and empirical analysis, the paper demonstrates the positive impact of We-Media on learners’speaking skills, emphasizing the importance of self-management,goal-setting,and consistent practice. The findings suggest that We-Media offers a flexible and diverse learning environment, but its effectiveness depends on learners’ability to self-regulate and employ effective learning strategies. The paper concludes with recommendations for future research and practical suggestions for educators and learners to maximize the benefits of We-Media in English education.
文摘In historically, culturally, and technically variable media constellations, various forms of media activism, media education, and learning design have been developed. The paper aims at exploring challenges for media education and interfaces between both fields.
文摘Determining the predictors of screen media use will assist nurses and clinicians to identify the children that are in most need for intervention. There is an urgent need to implement interventions that mitigate children’s excessive use of media.
文摘The rise of social media platforms has revolutionized communication, enabling the exchange of vast amounts of data through text, audio, images, and videos. The system excels in transforming large volumes of data into meaningful summaries, as evidenced by its strong performance across metrics like fluency, consistency, readability, and semantic coherence.
文摘Social media, especially among the youth, is growing exponentially in our world today as more people gain access to the internet. However, further research is needed to better understand the complexity of youth’s relationship with social media.
文摘This study analyzed how impressions are formed online depending on the type of social media and the implications that may come from the over-disclosure of information. Using a Qualtrics survey, 97 participants viewed the profile of a female teaching assistant on Twitter and Facebook. While there was little difference between the two social media, the use of self-disclosure on Twitter seemed slightly more inappropriate for sharing personal information.
文摘Neoliberal economic policies implemented by the Justice and Development Party(AKP)in Turkey empowered the modernization process which is one of the main dynamics of transforming traditional societies. As a result of this socio-economic transformation, new institutions and technical developments evolved, without any relation to religion or its institutions(Zubaida,2011).In fact, this course has accelerated the individualization process of the religiously educated Generation Z in Turkey, whereas the significance of collective religious identity shrank(Kara,2014).The expansion of social media platforms has influenced young people’s relationship with religion and faith. However, after the Gezi Parki protests in 2013,the government started using a more populist discourse with regard to religious and nationalist symbols. This type of political communication had a crucial impact on the political arena. This research sheds light on the result of a qualitative analysis, based on interviews conducted with Imam Hatip school students in Turkey. The results of these in-depth interviews show how digital media is creating a new ecosystem based on self-identity(Giddens,1991).

文摘In real soil environments, humus, colloids and other components significantly affect pollutant migration behavior.Investigating Tl(I)and kaolinite colloids’cotransport in quartz sand media containing sodium humate(HA-Na)is vital for comprehending Tl(I)migration underground. This study examined the migration of Tl(I)and kaolinite colloids across varying pH levels(5,7),ionic strengths(ISs)(1,5,50 mmol/L),and kaolinite colloid concentra-tions.Results indicate that lower IS and pH promote Tl(I)migration when transported alone. In cotransport system, kaolinite promotes Tl(I)migration under acidic conditions but inhibits it under neutral conditions, except at high kaolinite concentrations, where the effect shifts from inhibition to promotion. This is primarily due to changes in the zeta potential of quartz sand,HA-Na,and kaolinite,as well as Tl(I)adsorption after HA-Na and kaolinite occupy binding sites.Competitive adsorption between cations and Tl(I)also plays a significant role.Conversely,in individual system, higher IS and pH inhibit kaolinite migration, while increased kaolinite concentration promotes it.In cotransport system,Tl(I)promotes kaolinite migration under acidic conditions but inhibits it under neutral conditions, except at low kaolinite concentrations. This relates to changes in the zeta potential between kaolinite and the medium,as well as the retention of HA-Na in the column and its adsorption onto kaolinite.Competitive adsorption and binding site saturation also have an impact. This study enhances understanding of Tl(I)migration by revealing the dual effect of kaolinite colloids under different environmental conditions, contributing to better knowledge of Tl(I)fate and transport in natural environments.
文摘This study focuses on Chinese social media platforms(Weibo and Douyin),adopting a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative and qualitative research to explore patterns of code-switching in online language and its role in identity negotiation among internet users.Quantitative analysis of 208 valid questionnaires and subsequent qualitative discourse analysis reveal that 83%of users unconsciously engage in Chinese-English code-switching,primarily demonstrating intra-sentential switching patterns where English words embed as salient“figures”against the Chinese“ground.”Results of the Chi-square test indicate significant correlations between code-switching frequency, types, and users’identity dimensions(p<0.05).Data identified three identity functions:cultural belonging,in-group signaling, and persona curation. The study confirms that code-switching in digital contexts has transcended the level of linguistic efficiency to become an important social infrastructure for internet users to construct their identities.
