Physics-informed neural networks(PINNs)have emerged as a promising class of scientific machine learning techniques that integrate governing physical laws into neural network training.Their ability to enforce different...Physics-informed neural networks(PINNs)have emerged as a promising class of scientific machine learning techniques that integrate governing physical laws into neural network training.Their ability to enforce differential equations,constitutive relations,and boundary conditions within the loss function provides a physically grounded alternative to traditional data-driven models,particularly for solid and structural mechanics,where data are often limited or noisy.This review offers a comprehensive assessment of recent developments in PINNs,combining bibliometric analysis,theoretical foundations,application-oriented insights,and methodological innovations.A biblio-metric survey indicates a rapid increase in publications on PINNs since 2018,with prominent research clusters focused on numerical methods,structural analysis,and forecasting.Building upon this trend,the review consolidates advance-ments across five principal application domains,including forward structural analysis,inverse modeling and parameter identification,structural and topology optimization,assessment of structural integrity,and manufacturing processes.These applications are propelled by substantial methodological advancements,encompassing rigorous enforcement of boundary conditions,modified loss functions,adaptive training,domain decomposition strategies,multi-fidelity and transfer learning approaches,as well as hybrid finite element–PINN integration.These advances address recurring challenges in solid mechanics,such as high-order governing equations,material heterogeneity,complex geometries,localized phenomena,and limited experimental data.Despite remaining challenges in computational cost,scalability,and experimental validation,PINNs are increasingly evolving into specialized,physics-aware tools for practical solid and structural mechanics applications.展开更多
This study examines whether and how cues focusing enhances Chinese-speaking English learners’engagement in comparison,thereby facilitating their acquisition of English articles within xu-based comparative continuatio...This study examines whether and how cues focusing enhances Chinese-speaking English learners’engagement in comparison,thereby facilitating their acquisition of English articles within xu-based comparative continuation writing tasks.Fifty English majors from a Chinese university were randomly assigned to three groups and each group was required to complete a comparative continuation task with one of three conditions:paired cues(cues presented in pairs),randomized cues(cues presented in random order),or implicit cues(no explicit cues provided).All participants undertook pretests,posttests,and delayed tests on English article knowledge,and ten of them volunteered to take follow-up interviews.The results indicate that:1)paired cues were more effective than randomized or implicit cues in promoting the acquisition of English articles;and 2)learners in the paired cues condition produced more target-like article usage in their continuation writings compared to those in the other two conditions.The effectiveness of paired cues is attributed to an enhanced contrast effect,which prompts learners to identify similarities and differences between cues within each pair,relates cue explanations and examples with actual article usage in the reading text,and reflects upon and compares their own article productions against those in the provided reading text.The study concludes that the process of learning through continuation is fundamentally supported by learners’capacity for comparison,reinforcing its role as a core element of xu-competence.展开更多
UHMWPE fibers exhibit impressive modulus and strength,but they have not reached their theoretical limits.Researchers focus on molecular weight,orientation,and crystallinity of UHMWPE,yet their contributions to mechani...UHMWPE fibers exhibit impressive modulus and strength,but they have not reached their theoretical limits.Researchers focus on molecular weight,orientation,and crystallinity of UHMWPE,yet their contributions to mechanical properties are unclear.Molecular dynamics simulations are valuable but often limited by computational constraints.Our aim is to simulate higher molecular weights to better represent real UHMWPE fibers.We used Packmol and Polyply methodologies to construct PE systems,with Polyply reproducing more reasonable properties of UHMWPE fibers.Additionally,tensile simulations showed that orientation and crystallinity greatly impact Young's modulus more than molecular weight.Energy decomposition indicated that higher molecular weights lead to covalent bonds that can withstand more energy during stretching,thus increasing breaking strength.Combining simulations with machine learning,we found that orientation has the most significant impact on Young's modulus,contributing 60%,and molecular weight plays the most crucial role in determining the breaking strength,accounting for 65%.This study provides a theoretical basis and guidelines for enhancing UHMWPE's modulus and strength.展开更多
When performing English-to-Tamil Neural Machine Translation(NMT),end users face several challenges due to Tamil's rich morphology,free word order,and limited annotated corpora.Although available transformer-based ...When performing English-to-Tamil Neural Machine Translation(NMT),end users face several challenges due to Tamil's rich morphology,free word order,and limited annotated corpora.Although available transformer-based models offer strong baselines,they compromise syntactic awareness and the detection and man-agement of offensive content in cluttered,noisy,and informal text.In this paper,we present POSDEP-Offense-Trans,a multi-task NMT framework that combines Part-of-Speech(POS)and Dependency Parsing(DEP)methods with a robust offensive language classification module.Our architecture enriches the Transformer encoder with syntax-aware embeddings and provides syntax-guided attention mechanisms.The architecture incorporates a structure-aware contrastive loss that reinforces syntactic consistency and deploys auxiliary classification heads for POS tagging,dependency parsing,and multi-class offensive detection.The classifier for offensive words operates at both sentence and token levels and obtains guidance from syntactic features and formal finite automata rules that model offensive language structures-hate speech,profanity,sarcasm,and threats.Using this architecture,we construct a syntactically enriched,socially annotated corpus.Experimental results show improvements in translation quality,with a BLEU score of 33.5,UAS/LAS parsing accuracies of 92.4%and 90%,and a 4.5%Fl-score gain in offensive content detection compared with baseline POS+DEP+Offense models.Also,the proposed model achieved 92.3%in offensive content neutralization,as confirmed by ablation studies.This comprehensive English-Tamil NMT model that unifies syntactic modelling and ethical filtering-laying the groundwork for applications in social media moderation,hate speech mitigation,and policy-compliant multilingual content generation.展开更多
Incorporating ceramic particles into metal matrices is a proven strategy for boosting mechanical properties and wear resistance.The reinforcement potential of tungsten carbide(WC)particles in 316L stainless steel is r...Incorporating ceramic particles into metal matrices is a proven strategy for boosting mechanical properties and wear resistance.The reinforcement potential of tungsten carbide(WC)particles in 316L stainless steel is revealed,utilizing selective laser melting(SLM)to fabricate composites with 5 and 10 vol.%WC.The WC incorporation markedly alters the composite’s microstructure and mechanical attributes.Notably,5 vol.%WC-316L composite exhibits a refined submicron cellular structure,averaging 0.67μm in grain size.Elemental diffusion at WC-316L interface formed a 0.8μm gradient transition layer enriched with M_(2)C carbides(Fe,Cr,W),ensuring robust metallurgical bonding.Compared with unreinforced 316L,5%WC composite exhibits a 70%increase in tensile strength,reaching 1012.6 MPa,and a 25.3%rise in hardness,while maintaining acceptable ductility.10%WC composite achieves a 70.8%hardness enhancement,albeit with reduced elongation.Friction coefficient is reduced by up to 17.3%,and the wear mechanism shifts from adhesive to abrasive,significantly improving wear resistance.展开更多

In recent years,large language models(LLMs)have demonstrated immense potential in practical applications to enhance work efficiency and decision-making capabilities.However,specialized LLMs in the oil and gas engineer...In recent years,large language models(LLMs)have demonstrated immense potential in practical applications to enhance work efficiency and decision-making capabilities.However,specialized LLMs in the oil and gas engineering area are rarely developed.To aid in exploring and developing deep and ultra-deep unconventional reservoirs,there is a call for a personalized LLM on oil-and gas-related rock mechanics,which may handle complex professional data and make intelligent predictions and decisions.To that end,herein,we overview general and industry-specific LLMs.Then,a systematic workflow is proposed for building this domain-specific LLM for oil and gas engineering,including data collection and processing,model construction and training,model validation,and implementation in the specific domain.Moreover,three application scenarios are investigated:knowledge extraction from textural resources,field operation with multidisciplinary integration,and intelligent decision assistance.Finally,several challenges in developing this domain-specific LLM are highlighted.Our key findings are that geological surveys,laboratory experiments,field tests,and numerical simulations form the four original sources of rock mechanics data.Those data must flow through collection,storage,processing,and governance before being fed into LLM training.This domain-specific LLM can be trained by fine-tuning a general open-source LLM with professional data and constraints such as rock mechanics datasets and principles.The LLM can then follow the commonly used training and validation processes before being implemented in the oil and gas field.However,there are three primary challenges in building this domain-specific LLM:data standardization,data security and access,and striking a compromise between physics and data when building the model structure.Some of these challenges are administrative rather than technical,and overcoming those requires close collaboration between the different interested parties and various professional practitioners.展开更多

English is one of the world’s most widely studied and spoken languages now.In China,the local variety of English,referred to in this study as China English from the World Englishes perspective,has been widely debated...English is one of the world’s most widely studied and spoken languages now.In China,the local variety of English,referred to in this study as China English from the World Englishes perspective,has been widely debated regarding its recognition as an English variety among Chinese speakers.This study examines the perceptions of Chinese graduate students majoring in English in Thailand toward World Englishes,China English,and their tolerance of China English in the Chinese EFL classroom after completing a 15-week World Englishes course.Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with seven students and analyzed using qualitative content analysis.The findings indicated that while students acknowledged the legitimacy of World Englishes and China English in various contexts,they resisted its use in English language classrooms in China.Instead,they preferred conventional pedagogical approaches that prioritize native English varieties,particularly British and American English.These findings suggest that language educators in China should integrate diverse English varieties into the classroom by incorporating authentic learning materials and designing relevant learning activities.Such an approach would not only expose students to English diversity but also enhance their intercultural competence and global citizenship.展开更多

文摘English is one of the world’s most widely studied and spoken languages now.In China,the local variety of English,referred to in this study as China English from the World Englishes perspective,has been widely debated regarding its recognition as an English variety among Chinese speakers.This study examines the perceptions of Chinese graduate students majoring in English in Thailand toward World Englishes,China English,and their tolerance of China English in the Chinese EFL classroom after completing a 15-week World Englishes course.Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with seven students and analyzed using qualitative content analysis.The findings indicated that while students acknowledged the legitimacy of World Englishes and China English in various contexts,they resisted its use in English language classrooms in China.Instead,they preferred conventional pedagogical approaches that prioritize native English varieties,particularly British and American English.These findings suggest that language educators in China should integrate diverse English varieties into the classroom by incorporating authentic learning materials and designing relevant learning activities.Such an approach would not only expose students to English diversity but also enhance their intercultural competence and global citizenship.
文摘In the contemporary era of globalization,English has evolved into a multifaceted tool for intercultural communication,transcending its traditional boundaries.This paper explores the shifting paradigms in English language teaching(ELT),moving away from the pursuit of native-like competence towards a more pragmatic focus on communicative proficiency in English as a Lingua Franca(ELF).Through an examination of global English varieties and ELT goals,the paper argues for a pedagogical approach that embraces linguistic diversity and prioritizes effective communication over conformity to native norms.Drawing on insights from ELF research and communicative language teaching methodologies,it advocates for empowering learners with the skills to navigate diverse linguistic contexts and engage in meaningful interactions with speakers from diverse cultural backgrounds.
