This study explored how perceived social support(PSS)influences the sense of meaning in life(SML)among rural college students, considering positive coping styles(PCS)as a mediator and psychological resilience(PR)as a moderator.1444 college students(females;23.55%only child;M_(age)=19.76 years,SD=1.07;76.66%)were recruited from Jilin province in China. The college students self-reported their perceived social support and positive coping styles, psychological resilience, and sense of meaning in life. The results indicated that higher perceived social support predicted higher college students’sense of meaning in life.Perceived social support positively contributes to college students’sense of meaning in life through the mediating role of positive coping styles.Psychological resilience moderates the first path of the indirect association, where the positive effect of perceived social support on positive coping styles is more pronounced in college students with higher psychological resilience compared to those with lower psychological resilience. These align with Social Support Theory and Psychological Resilience Theory. That is,individuals with effective social support systems can enhance their positive coping styles, thereby increasing their sense of meaning in life, while psychological resilience strengthens the positive impact of perceived social support on positive coping styles. These findings offer the evidence for intervening and supporting the development of college students’sense of meaning in life.To enhance rural college students’sense of meaning in life,it is essential to establish a comprehensive social support system, promote the development of positive coping styles, and provide targeted training to strengthen psychological resilience. 展开更多

This study examined how psychological meaningfulness moderates job complexity and work-family conflict in Nigerian secondary school teachers. This study included 1694 teachers from 17 Nigerian secondary schools(female=69.54%,mean age=33.19,SD=6.44 years). The participants completed the Work-family Conflict Scale,Job Complexity Scale, and Psychological Meaningfulness Scale.Study design was cross-sectional.Hayes PROCESS macro analysis results indicate a higher work-family conflict with job complexity among the secondary school teachers. While psychological meaningfulness was not associated with work-family conflict,it moderated the link between job complexity and work-family conflict in secondary school teachers such that a meaningful work endorsement is associated with lower employee’s work-life conflict.Thesefindings point to the importance of job functions to quality of family life. The studyfindings also suggest a need for supporting psychological meaningfulness for healthy work related quality of family life based on balancing work and family role demands. 展开更多

Background:With the rapid aging of China’s population and the increasing prevalence of comorbidities in the elderly, psychological crises have become more common. This study aims to investigate the present status of psychological vulnerability, aging attitudes, and life meaning in elderly patients with comorbidities. Methods:A total of 685 elderly inpatients and outpatients at Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University between July and December 2022 were selected using the simple random sampling method.Social demographic data were collected, and the Attitudes to aging Questionnaire(AAQ),the Chinese Life Meaning Questionnaire(C-MLQ),and the Psychological Vulnerability Scale(C-PVS)were used for the analysis.A total of 685 questionnaires were received, and 602 valid questionnaires were collected, with an effective rate of 87.88%.Data analysis was performed using SPSS V25.0 and AMOS V24.0.Results:The total scores of psychological vulnerability, aging attitudes, and life meaning were 69.4±12.8,80.2±13.5 and 39.2±8.3,respectively.The psychological vulnerability was significantly negatively correlated with life meaning and aging attitudes(r=-0.351,-0.264;p<0.01).There was a significant positive correlation between aging attitudes and life meaning(r=0.515;p<0.01).Life meaning played a partial mediating role between psychological vulnerability and aging attitudes(β=3.070,p<0.05).Conclusion:This study found that the psychological vulnerability in elderly patients with comorbidities was at the lower level, which was related to the elderly patients’aging attitudes and their current status of life meaning. The level of psychological vulnerability in elderly patients with senile-related comorbidities needs to be further improved.Medical workers should pay attention to the psychological vulnerability of elderly patients and improve the identification of psychological crises of such patients. 展开更多

Cognitive models must be able to adapt the students learning behaviors dynamically. In our point of view, the processes of learning and understanding are,in nature, the procedure that gains the meaning of the object to be learned. So,ICAI cognitive models should reflect the meaning structure of the domain knowledge in students mind.According to this view,we developed the meaning theory of Ludwig Wittgenstein, and proposed the concept of meaning conjoinism. On the basis of the meaning conjoinism we proposed a meaning oriented ICAI cognitive model and its corresponding teaching tactics.Furthermore,we developed an ICAI system named Thinking and the efficiency of our proposal has been demonstrated. 展开更多

Giora proposed that general principle of salience: salient comprehension of figurative and meanings are processed first and literal language be governed by a more meaning salience determines the type of processing invoked. According to the Graded Salience Hypothesis, processing familiar metaphors should involve the activation of both their metaphoric and literal meanings, regardless of the type of context in which they are embedded. Processing less familiar metaphors should activate the literal meaning in both types of contexts; however, in the literally biased context, it should be the only one activated. Processing familiar idioms in context biased towards the idiomatic meaning should evoke their figurative meaning almost exclusively, because their figurative meaning is much more salient than their literal meaning. However, processing less familiar idioms in an idiomatic context should activate both their literal and idiomatic meanings because both meanings enjoy similar salience status. 展开更多

The essence of prose lies in expressing meaning and feeling of the prose, describing things and reasoning in real, plain and direct way, which is referred as its natural character. What the prose requires is to strive to make equivalence in the meaning, forms, taste, style and other aspects with the original text. What the prose express is not only the thematic meaning but also the stylistic meaning, in other words, the meaning that was contained in the content and forms. Hilaire Belloc, a famous prolific writer and historian, have formulated the six principles in translation of prose, in which he believes that the essence of translating is the resurrection of an alien thing in a native body. 展开更多

This paper discusses a neglected theme in Wittgenstein's writings on meaning and psychology from the early 1930s until 1949. Throughout this period Wittgenstein deals with aspects of meaning of words and pictures that cannot be accounted for in dispositional terms but have to be related to experience and perception. Wittgenstein's reading of William James, I argue, has sharpened his eye for the many pitfalls in coming to terms with this experiential notion of meaning. James's treatment of experiences of meaning succumbs to the temptation to postulate ~~meaning-bodies," bearers of meaning apart from the way and context in which we use the particular words. I argue that the conflation of what Wittgenstein calls the transitive and intransitive use of words is at the root of postulating meaning-bodies. I also argue that contemporary treatments of experiences of meaning are similarly vulnerable to James's confusion. 展开更多
