Improving the specific, technical, economic, and environmental characteristics of piston engines(ICE)operating on alternative gaseous fuels is a pressing task for the energy and mechanical engineering industries. The aim of the study was to optimize the parameters of the ICE working cycle after replacing the base fuel(propane-butane blend)with syngas from wood sawdust to improve its technical and economic performance based on mathematical modeling. The modeling results were verified through experimental studies(differences for key parameters did not exceed 4.0%).The object of the study was an electric generator based on a single-cylinder spark ignition engine with a power of 1 kW.The article describes the main approaches to creating a mathematical model of the engine working cycle,a test bench for modeling verification, physicochemical properties of the base fuel(propane-butane blend),and laboratory syngas. It was shown that replacing the fuel from a propane-butane blend to laboratory syngas caused a decrease in engine efficiency to 33%(the efficiency of the base ICE was 0.179 vs.the efficiency of 0.119 for the converted ICE for the 0.59 kW power mode).Engine efficiency was chosen as the key criterion for optimizing the working cycle. As a result of optimization, the efficiency of the converted syngas engine was 6.1%higher than that of the base engine running on the propane-butane blend, and the power drop did not exceed 8.0%.Thus,careful fine-tuning of the working cycle parameters allows increasing the technical and economic characteristics of the syngas engine to the level of ICEs running on traditional types of fuel. 展开更多

The increasing demand due to development and advancement in every field of life has caused the depletion of fossil fuels. This depleting fossil fuel reserve throughout the world has enforced to get energy from alternative/renewable sources. One of the economicalways to get energy is through the utilization of solar ponds. In this study,a mathematical model of a salt gradient solar pond under the Islamabad climatic conditions has been analyzed for the first time. The model uses a one-dimensional finite difference explicit method for optimization of different zone thicknesses. The model depicts that NCZ(Non-Convective Zone)thickness has a significant effect on LCZ(Lower Convective Zone)temperature and should be kept less than 1.7mfor the optimal temperature. It is also observed that for long-termoperation of a solar pond, heat should be extracted by keeping the mass flowrate of 17.3 kg/m^(2)/day.Themodel also suggests that when the bottom reflectivity is about 0.3,then only 24%of the radiation is absorbed in the pond. 展开更多

Malaria is a significant global health challenge. This devastating disease continues to affect millions, especially in tropical regions. It is caused by Plasmodium parasites transmitted by female Anopheles mosquitoes. This study introduces a nonlinear mathematical model for examining the transmission dynamics of malaria, incorporating both human and mosquito populations. We aim to identify the key factors driving the endemic spread of malaria, determine feasible solutions, and provide insights that lead to the development of effective prevention and management strategies. We derive the basic reproductive number employing the next-generation matrix approach and identify the disease-free and endemic equilibrium points.Stability analyses indicate that the disease-free equilibrium is locally and globally stable when the reproductive number is below one, whereas an endemic equilibrium persists when this threshold is exceeded.Sensitivity analysis identifies the most influential mosquito-related parameters, particularly the bite rate and mosquito mortality,in controlling the spread of malaria.Furthermore,we extend our model to include a treatment compartment and three disease-preventive control variables such as antimalaria drug treatments, use of larvicides, and the use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets for optimal control analysis. The results show that optimal use of mosquito nets, use of larvicides for mosquito population control, and treatment can lower the basic reproduction number and control malaria transmission with minimal intervention costs. The analysis of disease control strategies and findings offers valuable information for policymakers in designing cost-effective strategies to combat malaria. 展开更多

In this letter,we discuss the article by Li et al published in the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery.Gallbladder cancer is a rare but fatal cancer that is often detected unexpectedly and at an advanced stage following routine cholecystectomy.Although the prognosis is poor, curative resections often combined with postoperative chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy can improve survival. However, targeted patient selection for the appropriate therapeutic approach is critical to minimize unnecessary morbidity.Using advanced statistical techniques, the authors developed a nomogram with the potential to predict survival after gallbladder cancer resection, identifying factors associated with long-and shortterm survival. This tool could improve patient selection for surgery and postoperative treatment. In this letter,we provide background on survival nomograms including an in-depth discussion of statistical methods employed in this study, the use of nomograms in other forms of cancer, limitations to the model, and directions for future research. 展开更多

The work considers the problem of gas hydrate dissociation in a porous medium using the two-term Forchheimer law, corresponding to high flow rates of reservoir fluids.Such rates can arise during the decomposition of gas hydrates, since a large amount of gas is released.Intensive emissions of gases from the earth’s interior are observed on the ocean floor. They are also associated with a large number of subvertical geological structures under the ocean floor, coming to the surface in the formof local ring funnels(pockmarks). Many similar objects have also been found on land.Particular interest in this problemis caused by climate threats associated with the release of greenhouse gases. The movement of gas released fromthe hydrate to the breakthrough channel is similar to the gas inflow to the well(without hydrate),which is usually described by a two-term filtration law.In this work,a mathematical model of gas hydrate dissociation with a nonlinear Forchheimer-type law ofmotion is developed. The systemis split in two blocks by physical processes, taking into account the quadratic correction to the velocity in the filtration law.The first block is responsible for the convective transfer of saturation parameters in the model, water, gas and hydrate saturations are taken into account. The second block corresponds to the equation of dissipative piezoconductivity with a different number of thermodynamic degrees of freedom, taking into account heat and mass transfer in a porous medium. The performed splitting allows using explicit-implicit difference schemes when solving problems and avoiding strong refinement of the step in time and space. For numerical modeling, the support operator method is used, which makes it possible to discretize partial differential equations on irregular grids, which allows taking into account the complex geometry and lithology of the reservoir.A difference scheme based on the support operator method is developed, which, due to the mutually consistent approximation of vector analysis operations(divergence and gradient),allows to take into account the various flux laws between adjacent grid cells, including quadratic corrections to the velocity.Based on the developed numerical algorithms and their program implementations, calculations of gas hydrate dissociation are performed both in a reservoir of simple geometric structure and in a heterogeneous reservoir of complex configuration. The results obtained correspond to the physics of the processes under consideration. 展开更多

The pressure comfort of passengers and crew in high-speed trains faces significant challenges under alternating open-tunnel conditions. To better understand the mechanism of pressure transmission and control interior pressure fluctuations in high-altitude regions, this study develops an interior pressure fluctuation model.By establishing the frameworks of the non-ideal gas state equation and the polytropic process equation, gas heat transfer and mass transfer were expressed through the first law of thermodynamics and the continuity equation.Simulation results, evaluated by root mean square error, coefficient of determination,peak-to-peak error, and pressure change rate, show that the proposed model closely aligns with measured signals in both overall trends and local details.Data from various train types and tunnel scenarios further demonstrate the model's accuracy and practical applicability. This study provides a critical foundation for evaluating interior pressure comfort for high-speed trains in high-altitude regions. 展开更多

Linear flux-switching permanent magnet motors(LFSPMs) have been proposed for long stator applications such as rail transit. However, the conventional linear permanent magnet synchronous motor(LPMSM) suffers from thrust ripple, which degrades the motor performance. The thrust ripple in LFSPMs is mainly caused by detent force and asymmetric electromagnetic parameters, excluding external disturbances. Moreover, the 12/13 slot-pole LFSPM exhibits unique inductance characteristics, which lead to different effects on thrust ripple. First, the detent force in the LFSPM is analyzed through finite element method(FEM). In addition, new finite element(FE) models are proposed for further analysis of the cogging force in LFSPMs. Second, the unique inductance characteristics of the 12/13 slot-pole LFSPM are investigated, and then the thrust ripple caused by asymmetric electromagnetic parameters is calculated by the virtual displacement method. Third, the mathematical model considering the thrust ripple is established for the LFSPM, which provides a foundation for subsequent research on thrust ripple suppression control strategies. Finally, the thrust ripple analysis is validated by comparing FEM results, modeling simulations, and experimental data. 展开更多

Spillover of trypanosomiasis parasites from wildlife to domestic livestock and humans remains a major challenge world over. With the disease targeted for elimination by 2030,assessing the impact of control strategies in communities where there are human-cattle-wildlife interactions is therefore essential.A compartmental framework incorporating tsetse flies, humans, cattle, wildlife and various disease control strategies is developed and analyzed. The reproduction is derived and its sensitivity to different model parameters is investigated.Meanwhile, the optimal control theory is used to identify a combination of control strategies capable of minimizing the infected human and cattle population over time at minimal costs of implementation. The results indicates that tsetse fly mortality rate is strongly and negatively correlated to the reproduction number. It is also established that tsetse fly feeding rate in strongly and positively correlated to the reproduction number.Simulation results indicates that time dependent control strategies can significantly reduce the infections.Overall, the study shows that screening and treatment of humans may not lead to disease elimination.Combining this strategy with other strategies such as screening and treatment of cattle and vector control strategies will result in maximum reduction of tsetse fly population and disease elimination. 展开更多

This paper presents two approaches for system-level simulation of force-balance accelerometers. The derivation of the system-level model is elaborated and simulation results are obtained from the implementation of those strategies on the fabricated silicon force-balance MEMS accelerometer. The mathematical model presented is implemented in VHDL- AMS and SIMULINK TM,respectively. The simulation results from the two approaches are compared and show a slight difference. Using VHDL-AMS is flexible, reusable, and more accurate. But there is not a mature solver developed for the language and this approach takes more time, while the simulation model can be easily built and quickly evaluated using SIMULINK. 展开更多

On the basis of modeling of multiple targets and radar returning signals, a new method for radar range superresolution is introduced in this paper. This method tums the resolution of multiple closely spaced targets into an identification of the target impulse response functions. The least-square (LS) method is then used to estimate impulse resoonse functions of the targets. The concept of radar range resolution probability is also introduced. It is shown from the simulation results that the new superresolution method is much efficient, and has advantages such as having a simple structure, as well as high resolution. 展开更多

Lassa Fever(LF)is a viral hemorrhagic illness transmitted via rodents and is endemic in West Africa, causing thousands of deaths annually. This study develops a dynamic model of Lassa virus transmission, capturing the progression of the disease through susceptible, exposed, infected, and recovered populations. The focus is on simulating this model using the fractional Caputo derivative, allowing both qualitative and quantitative analyses of boundedness, positivity, and solution uniqueness.Fixed-point theory and Lipschitz conditions are employed to confirm the existence and uniqueness of solutions, while Lyapunov functions establish the global stability of both disease-free and endemic equilibria. The study further examines the role of the Caputo operator by solving the generalized power-law kernel via a two-step Lagrange polynomial method. This approach offers practical advantages in handling additional data points in integral forms, though Newton polynomial-based schemes are generally more accurate and can outperform Lagrange-based Adams-Bashforth methods.Graphical simulations validate the proposed numerical approach for different fractional orders(ν)and illustrate the influence of model parameters on disease dynamics. Results indicate that increasing the fractional order accelerates the decline of Lassa fever in both human and rodent populations.Moreover,fractional-order modeling provides more nuanced insights than traditional integer-order models, suggesting potential improvements for medical intervention strategies. The study demonstrates that carefully chosen fractional orders can optimize convergence and enhance the predictive capacity of Lassa fever models, offering a promising direction for future research in epidemiological modeling. 展开更多

The previous sensitivity analysis researches are not accurate enough and also have the limited reference value, because those mathematical models are relatively simple and the change of the load and the initial displacement changes of the piston are ignored, even experiment verification is not conducted. Therefore, in view of deficiencies above, a nonlinear mathematical model is established in this paper, including dynamic characteristics of servo valve, nonlinear characteristics of pressure-flow, initial displacement of servo cylinder piston and friction nonlinearity. The transfer function block diagram is built for the hydraulic drive unit closed loop position control, as well as the state equations. Through deriving the time-varying coefficient items matrix and time-varying free items matrix of sensitivity equations respectively, the expression of sensitivity equations based on the nonlinear mathematical model are obtained. According to structure parameters of hydraulic drive unit, working parameters, fluid transmission characteristics and measured friction-velocity curves, the simulation analysis of hydraulic drive unit is completed on the MATLAB/Simulink simulation platform with the displacement step 2 mm, 5 mm and 10 mm, respectively. The simulation results indicate that the developed nonlinear mathematical model is sufficient by comparing the characteristic curves of experimental step response and simulation step response under different constant load. Then, the sensitivity function time-history curves of seventeen parameters are obtained, basing on each state vector time-history curve of step response characteristic. The maximum value of displacement variation percentage and the sum of displacement variation absolute values in the sampling time are both taken as sensitivity indexes. The sensitivity indexes values above are calculated and shown visually in histograms under different working conditions, and change rules are analyzed. Then the sensitivity indexes values of four measurable parameters, such as supply pressure, proportional gain, initial position of servo cylinder piston and load force, are verified experimentally on test platform of hydraulic drive unit, and the experimental research shows that the sensitivity analysis results obtained through simulation are approximate to the test results. This research indicates each parameter sensitivity characteristics of hydraulic drive unit, the performance-affected main parameters and secondary parameters are got under different working conditions, which will provide the theoretical foundation for the control compensation and structure optimization of hydraulic drive unit. 展开更多

An experimental study was performed to determine the characteristics and drying process of mushroom (Lentinus edodes) by 6 different hot-air drying methods namely isothermal drying, uniform raise drying, non-uniform raise drying, uniform intermittent drying, non-uniform intermittent drying and combined drying. The chemical composition (dry matter, ash, crude protein, crude fat, total sugars, dietary fiber, and energy), color parameters (L, a*, b*, c*, and h~) and rehydration capacities were determined. Among all the experiments, non-uniform intermittent drying reached a better comprehensive results due to the higher chemical composition, better color quality associated with high bright (26.381+5.842), high color tone (73.670+2.975), low chroma (13.349a:3.456) as well as the highest rehydration (453.76% weigh of dried body). Nine kinds of classical mathematical model were used to obtained moisture data and the Midili-kucuk model can be described by the drying process with the coefficient (R2 ranged from 0.99790 to 0.99967), chi-square (X2 ranged from 0.00003 to 0.00019) and root mean square error (RMSE ranged from 0.000486 to 0.0012367). 展开更多

A numerical model and transmission characteristic analysis of DPSK (differential phase shift keying) pressure signals in mud channels is introduced. With the control logic analysis of the rotary valve mud telemetry, a logical control signal is built from a Gate function sequence according to the binary symbols of transmitted data and a phase-shift function is obtained by integrating the logical control signal. A mathematical model of the DPSK pressure signal is built based on principles of communications by modulating carrier phase with the phase-shift function and a numerical simulation of the pressure wave is implemented with the mathematical model by MATLAB programming. Considering drillpipe pressure and drilling fluid temperature profile along drillpipes, the drillpipe of a vertical well is divided into a number of sections. With water-based drilling fluids, the impacts of travel distance, carrier frequency, drillpipe size, and drilling fluids on the signal transmission were studied by signal transmission characteristic analysis for all the sections. Numerical calculation results indicate that the influences of the viscosity of drilling fluids and volume fraction of gas in drilling fluids on the DPSK signal transmission are more notable than the others and the signal will distort in waveform with differential attenuations of the signal frequent component. 展开更多

A general mathematical model of carrier-based aircraft ski jump take-off is derived based on tensor. The carrier, the aircraft body and the movable parts of the landing gears are treated as independent entities. These entities are assembled into a multi-rigid-body system with flexible links. Dynamical equations of each entity are derived on the basis of the Newton law and the Euler transformation. Using the invariance property of the tensor, the dynamical and kinematical equations are converted to tensor forms which are invariant under time-dependent coordinate transformations. Then the tensor-formed equations are expressed by the matrix operation. Differential equation group of the matrix form is formulated for the programming. A stranded wires helical spring is formed of a multilayer and coaxial strand of several wires twisted together with the same direction of spiral. Compared with the conventional single wire spring, the stranded wires helical spring has the notable predominance in strength, damping and vibration reduction, which is usually used in aircraft engines, automatic weapons, etc. However, due to its complicated structure, the precise computation of its strength and rigidity need be a correct mathematical model, which then will be imported to finite element analysis software for solutions. Equations on solving geometric parameters, such as external diameters of strands and screw pitches of wires, are put forward in the paper. It also proposes a novel methodology on solving geometric parameters and establishing entity models of the stranded wires helical spring, which provides foundation of computing mechanical parameters by FEA. Then mathematical models on the centre line of the strand and the surface curve of each wire, after closing two ends in a spring, are proposed. Finally, geometric parameters are solved in a case study, and a 3D entity model of a spring with 3 layers and 16 wires is established, which has validated the accuracy of the proposed methodology and the 3D entity mathematical model. The method provides a new way to design stranded wire helical spring. 展开更多
