We have described in detail the effects of nano-SiO_(2),nano-CaCO_(3),carbon nanotubes, and nano-Al_(2)O_(3) on geopolymer concrete from the perspectives of macro mechanics and microstructure. The existing research results show that the mechanism of nano-materials on geopolymer concrete mainly includes the filling effect, nucleation effect, and bridging effect, the appropriate amount of nano-materials can be used as fillers to reduce the porosity of geopolymer concrete, and can also react with Ca(OH)2 to produce C-S-H gel, thereby improving the mechanical properties of geopolymer concrete. The optimum content of nano-SiO_(2) is between 1.0%and 2.0%.The optimum content of nano-CaCO_(3) is between 2.0%and 3.0%.The optimum content of carbon nanotubes is between 0.1%and 0.2%.The optimum content of nano-Al_(2)O_(3) is between 1.0%and 2.0%.The main problems existing in the research and application of nanomaterial-modified geopolymer concrete are summarized, which lays a foundation for the further application of nanomaterial in geopolymer concrete. 展开更多

Warm and ice-rich frozen soil(WIRFS) exhibits lower shear strength due to the weak binding forces between soil particles and ice crystals. To enhance the strength of WIRFS, frozen soil was treated separately with Portland, Phosphate, Sulphoaluminate, Portland-Phosphate and PortlandSulphoaluminate cements. After the samples were cured under -1.0°C for 7 days, the microscopic pore distribution characteristics and the macro-mechanical properties of WIRFS were investigated using mercury intrusion porosimetry(MIP), scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and unconfined compressive strength(UCS) tests. To quantitatively analyze the laws of pore-size transformation and the variation of Hausdorff volumetric fractal dimensions for pre-and post-treated WIRFS, the CURVEEXTRACT and Image-Pro Plus(IPP) image analysis system has been developed for analysing SEM images of the soil samples. Statistics of the pore-area dimension and pore-volume dimension were calculated. The results reveal that the cement-based treatment of WIRFS can improve the cementation fill of soil pores and the bond forces between soil particles. There is an evident correlation between the microstructure characteristics and the mechanical properties of the treated WIRFS. As the fractal dimensions of pore-area decrease, the unconfined compressive strength of cement-treated WIRFS increases significantly. In contrast, as the fractal dimensions of pore-volume increases, the unconfined compressive strength decreases remarkably. 展开更多

While working in responsible fields of technology of ceramics and ceramic composites the above referred properties are attributed extremely great role with the view of durability and endurance at the terms of heavy mechanical loads. For description of the resistance of any concrete type work-piece, the crystalline phase plays the greatest role in mechanical strength or deformation of any material. It plays the important role in correlative explanation of materials mechanics and matrix properties. In our case, in the process of destruction of ceramic materials and composites, which will give us exhaustive response to the role of macro- and micro-mechanical properties of materials, the role of a macro- and micro-structural component, that is, of crystalline phase in the process of transition of stable state of materials into meta-stable state is extremely big. Our study aims to develop a formula of dependence of macro-mechanical properties of ceramic and ceramic composites on crystalline phase, the most powerful component of their structure, which will enable theorists and practitioners to select and develop technologies and technological processes correctly. Method: On the basis of the study of micro- and macro-mechanical properties of ceramics and ceramic composites and the morphology of crystalline phase and the analysis of the study we determined and created parameters of the formula. Results: The formula covers macro-mechanical properties, that is when the work-piece is thoroughly destructed: mechanic at bending at three and four-point load, mechanic at contraction;among morphological characteristics: composition of crystalline phase and their spreading in matrix, their sizes, form factor;correlative dependence of the above listed properties. Absolutely new definition of a factor of spreading of crystalline phase in matrix is offered. Conclusion: The created formula is of consolidated nature and it can be used in technology of any ceramic material and ceramic composites. The formula will help practitioners to plan correctly and fulfill accurately all positions of technology of production of work-pieces, to carry out the most responsible thermal treatment process of technology of manufacture of work-pieces;to determine correlation between mechanical and matrix properties of materials. 展开更多

This work aimed to help the bamboo industry develop methodology for producing imperfection-free bamboo boards that can serve either decorative or structural benefit to consumers seeking to engage with the bioeconomy.Specifically, softened and slotted bamboo tubes were handled by a roller device with nails to render crack-free flattened bamboo board.Softening temperature and time were optimized herein according to findings regarding chemical composition and board mechanical properties. The optimal softening parameters for saturated steam heat treatment is proved to be 160°C for 8 min.The flattened bamboo board possesses an increased bending strength of 101.5 MPa and a decreased bending modulus of 7.7 GPa,being compared with only-softened bamboo. The corresponding changing mechanism is determined in-depth by the micro-morphological and mechanical results based on in-situ SEM and AFM technologies.Under the action of nails and rolling processes, the bamboo texture becomes compact with crushed and fragmented conduit walls. The resulting cell cavity then becomes stretched and compressed, taking on a morphology which allows for the mechanical penalties associated with flattening to be avoided.According to the micro-mechanical results obtained by AFM,compared with unflatten bamboo, the Young’s modulus of the cell membrane in transverse direction(YT)decreases to 1.00 GPa while the corresponding Young’s modulus in radial direction(YR)increases to 7.29 GPa. 展开更多

The purpose is to study the microstructure and macroscopic fluid-dynamic behavior of soft soil after it has been subjected to a seepage consolidation procedure.First, the microscopic pore structure of soft clay is quantitatively studied by a scanning electron microscope technique.Second, the average contact area rate of soil particles is obtained employing statistical analysis applied to microscopic images of soft soil, and the macroscopic porosity of soft clay is determined through an indoor geotechnical test. Finally, mathematical relationships are introduced by fitting the results of the test. The results show that the unmodified empirical equation for the permeability coefficient of coarse-grained soil produces large errors in calculations related to cohesive soils.By contrast, the permeability coefficient calculated by the empirical equation modified by the average contact area ratio theory is in good agreement with the measured average value of the indoor test. 展开更多

In order to further verify the proposed theory of cavitation resonance, as well as to proceed the investigations into microscopic level, a series of studies are being carried out on the Warwick venturi. The analysis of the oscillation characteristics of the cavitation resonance has conclusively verified the macro-mechanism proposed through previous studies on other cavitating flows by the authors. The initiai observations using high-speed photographic approach have revealed a new attribution of cavitation resonance. That is, the volumetric oscillation of cavitation cloud is associated with the cavitation resonance, which is a collective behaviour of the bubbles in the cloud. 展开更多
