Musi...James Joyce’s poetry collection, Chamber Music, which he defines as “chambermade music,” epitomizes his literary pursuit of musicality and resonates with his dual identity as both a lyric poet and an Irishman. Musicality in Chamber Music can first be seen in allusions to musical elements which contribute to the musical revelation of emotions. Furthermore, repetition pervades Chamber Music both in themes and structure, resonating with the cyclical nature of Irish music. Under the influence of the Irish Revival, Joyce creatively navigates the realm of musical lyrics, draws a balance between English and Irish traditions, and provides a seminal model for his further exploration of musical writing in his later masterpieces.展开更多

Therefore, the aim of this article is to investigate the phenomenon of multi-dimensional musical experience from a life-world-phenomenological perspective and indicate its benefits to music education. The analysis is informed by Dufrenne's philosophical writings regarding the phenomenology of aesthetic experience and also draws on Merleau-Ponty, Heidegger, interpreted by Benson and Ford, together with Schutz. These philosophers provide tools for understanding musical experience from a bodily, existential, and sociological perspective, and their complementary ideas about being and learning can be applied to musical experience in the first case and secondly its influences for music educational praxis. Firstly, the concept of lived music is defined through a discussion of dimensions of musical experience; the phenomenology of aesthetic experience; the use of several senses; the heard and the hear-able; apperception; and musical dwelling. Then, the sharing of experience in musical dwelling and its relevance to the concept of imagination is highlighted. I will also emphasize the importance of the view of human beings as holistic bodily subjects. Finally, the article includes a discussion regarding the implications of a life-world-phenomenological view of musical experience to music education.展开更多

Oud had been widely popular before 17th century among society, and it provided moral and spiritual nourishment. This musical instrument was created by singer Borbad who lived in the period of Khisrav Parviz who was Sosoniy King and it was in the novel of "Khisrav and Shirin" (Nizami Ganjavi). Oud was also described in Kitab al-Musiqa al-Kabir (The Book of Music) by Farabi. Moreover, Alishir Navoi showed the connection of the science of music with spiritual world in verses of his priceless heritage. The poet assessed the sound features of the musical instruments in his book Mahbub ul-Qulub. Additionally he has written, "While the sound of Chang (struck zither) is torturing, sound of Oud is more touching." Sometimes Navoi used the Oud in musician's hands as an artistic image in order to illustrate his torture to reader. He described his condition very vividly and skillfully. This is probably because Oud has unique wail, which cannot be heard in any other instruments.展开更多

A new scheme for speech enhancement in high noise environment is developed by considering human auditory system masking characteristics. The new scheme considers the masking threshold of both noisy speech and the denoised one, to detect musical noise components. To make them inaudible, they are set under the noise masking threshold. The improved signal is subjected to extensive subjective and objective tests. It is ob-served that the musical noise is appreciably reduced even at very low signal to noise ratios.展开更多

In 1879, he executed cartoon drawings for a cycle on nine planets for the artisans of the William Morris Firm, who would transform them into stained-glass panels. The commission was for the decoration of Woodlands, the Victorian mansion of Baron Angus Holden (1833-1912), a major of Bradford. Presently, seven of the cartoons--The Moon (Luna), Earth (Terra), Sol (Apollo), Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, and Evening Star--are in the Torre Abbey Museum in Torquay, UK, while the cartoon for Mars is part of the collection of drawings at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, UK, and the cartoon for Morning Star is located at Lady Margaret Hall in Oxford, UK. In the creation of the Planets cycle, Burne-Jones was inspired by cultural events of the time such as British scientific astronomical discoveries and British and Italian humanistic sources in literature and visual arts portraying astronomy. This essay art historically and iconographically examines the nine planets as celestial and terrestrial formations and astral spheres of good omen. It is composed of three sections. The first section discusses the history of the artistic commission; the second analyzes the stylistic and iconographical aspects of the Planets cycle; and the third section explains some of Burne-Jones's cultural sources for the Planets cycle as manifestations of seasonal transformations, heavenly and terrestrial realms, musical spheres, and visions of a benevolent cosmos.展开更多

With the rendering of poetic and esoteric moods unrelated to practical life considered outdated, musical preoccupation with modem architecture mostly concemed social aspects, such as people's circumstances, their emotional rootedness to bygone conditions and the search for orientation in an environment characterized by technology. There is a parallel here with contemporary architectural debates in which tension between modernism and traditionalism also played a key role.

文摘The Oud is a pear-shaped stringed instrument with 11 'or 13 strings grouped in 5 or 6 courses, commonly used in Persian, Arabic, Greek, Turkish, Jewish, Byzantine, Azerbaijani, Armenian, North African and Middle Eastern music. This is probably because Oud has unique wail, which cannot be heard in any other instruments.
文摘Traditional noise reduction techniques have the drawback of generating an annoying musical noise. It is ob-served that the musical noise is appreciably reduced even at very low signal to noise ratios.
文摘Edward Burne-Jones (1833-1898), a pre-Raphaelite painter, was fascinated with astronomy, as noted in his memorials and accounts. The first section discusses the history of the artistic commission; the second analyzes the stylistic and iconographical aspects of the Planets cycle; and the third section explains some of Burne-Jones's cultural sources for the Planets cycle as manifestations of seasonal transformations, heavenly and terrestrial realms, musical spheres, and visions of a benevolent cosmos.
