It is simplified with two normal situations: one situation involves one straight lane and one left-turn lane; the other situation involves two straight lanes and one left-turn lane. The results show that the capacity is mainly relative to signal cycle length, phase length, intersection layout and following time. With regard to the vehicles arrival rates, the optimal model is derived based on each phase's remaining time balance, and it is solved by Lagrange multipliers. Therefore, the calculation models of the optimal signal cycle length and phase lengths are derived and simplified. Taking an Fe-C alloy as an example, the continuous evolution of a multi-phase transformation is simulated by using this new model. In addition, the growth of grains affected by the grain orientation of the parent phase (generated in liquid-solid phase transformation) in the solid-solid phase transformation is studied. The results show that the morphology of ferrite grains which nucleate at the boundaries of the austenite grains is influenced by the orientation of the parent austenite grains. The growth rate of ferrite grains which nucleate at small-angle austenite grain boundaries is faster than those that nucleate at large-angle austenite grain boundaries. The difference of the growth rate of ferrites grains in different parent phase that nucleate at large-angle austenite grain boundaries, on both sides of the boundaries, is greater than that of ferrites nucleating at small-angle austenite grain boundaries.展开更多

This article attempts to extract characteristics of the weathering pits by descriptive statistics and orientation rose diagrams, investigate the multi-phase evolution by the modified gnamma morphological analysis (GMA) method, and shed new light on the possible genesis and the influencing factors. Following the modified GMA method, weathering pits in Qing Mountain have been divided into six groups and compared with analogous sites to deduce their approximate age, which might be no older than 30 ka B.P., and explore the possibility that the multi-phase evolution of weathering pits may arise from responses to climate change. In consequence, we suggest that the combination of weathering, especially salt weathering, and wind erosion, both of which are closely related to climatic variation, take the main responsibility for the formation and development of weathering pits in Qing Mountain.展开更多

Consequently, the multi-particle-(envelope)- matrix system, as a model system regarding the analytical modelling, is applicable to four types of multi-phase materials. As functions of the particle volume fraction v, the inter-particle distances dl, d2, d3 along three mutually per- pendicular axes, and the particle and envelope radii, R1 and R2, respectively, the thermal stresses within the cell, are originated during a cooling process as a consequence of the difference in thermal expansion coefficients of phases rep- resented by the matrix, envelope and particle. Analytical-(experimental)-computational lifetime prediction methods for multi-phase materials are proposed, which can be used in engineering with appropriate values of parameters of real multi-phase materials.展开更多

However, few of them consider phase transitions, though they exit widely in batch processes and have non-ignorable impacts on product qualities. In the present work, a phase-based partial least squares (PLS) method utilizing transition information is proposed to give both online and offline quality predictions. First, batch processes are divided into several phases using regression parameters other than prior process knowledge. Then both steady phases and transitions which have great influences on qualities are identified as critical-to-quality phases using statistical methods. Finally, based on the analysis of different characteristics of transitions and steady phases, an integrated algorithm is developed for quality prediction. The application to an injection molding process shows the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in comparison with the traditional MPLS method and the phase-based PLS method.展开更多

The model accounts for both gas and liquid phase in the same computational domain, and thus allows for the implementation of phase change inside the gas diffusion layers. The model includes the transport of gaseous species, liquid water, protons, energy, and water dissolved in the ion-conducting polymer. Water is assumed to be exchanged among three phases: liquid, vapottr, and dissolved, with equilibrium among these phases being assumed. This model also takes into account convection and diffusion of different species in the channels as well as in the porous gas diffusion layer, heat transfer in the solids as well as in the gases, and electrochemical reactions. The results showed that the present multi-phase model is capable of identifying important parameters for the wetting behaviour of the gas diffusion layers and can be used to identify conditions that might lead to the onset of pore plugging, which has a detrimental effect on the fuel cell performance. This model is used to study the effects of several operating, design, and material parameters on fuel cell performance. Detailed analyses of the fuel cell performance under various operating conditions have been conducted and examined.展开更多

These projects employ pick-milling machines to extract minerals and rock by mechanical breakage. The machines are equipped with flooded-bed scrubbers that encase dust particles within fine water films as particles encounter a flooded wire-mesh screen. A major disadvantage is that the screen gets clogged when particles become trapped within the wire mesh, reducing airflow through the scrubber and increasing ambient dust concentrations. Thus, the system requires frequent maintenance or replacement. The application of a Vortecone scrubber as an improved alternative to conventional fibrous type scrubbers is investigated. A Vortecone forces dust-laden air and water to follow a complex, rapidly swirling motion. The momentum drives dust particles towards the periphery where they are captured by the water film. The operating characteristics of a reduced-scale physical model of a Vortecone, with its primary axis mounted in the horizontal orientation, was analyzed numerically and experimentally. Computational fluid dynamics(CFD) models depicting the spraying action and multi-phase air/water flows using the volume of fraction(VOF) approach, are presented. Experimental results, utilizing an optical particle counting technique to establish the dust-cleaning capabilities of the model, are also described.展开更多

The results show that the micro-strain concentrates at the soft / hard phase( F / B) interface in the multi-phase steel, which should be correlated with the mechanism of incoordinate deformation. During the necking of the steel, the micro-voids initially form around the F / B interface, which also form in ferrite and bainite with the severe strain. The micro-voids in bainite are more dense and finer than those in ferrite. The failure mechanism of bainite is the coalescence of micro-voids,and the failure mechanism of ferrite is the growth and tearing of micro-voids. Due to the different failure mechanisms of ferrite and bainite,a suitable part of soft phase would be beneficial to the capability of anti-failure of F / B multi-phase steel during the ductile fracture.展开更多

A program of FEM named as SOFT, adopting unified field equations for thermo-hydro-mechanical-air (THMA) behavior of geomaterial and using finite element-finite difference (FE-FD) scheme for so/l-water-air three-phase coupling problem, is used in the numerical simulation. As an application of the newly proposed numerical method, two engineering problems, one for slope failure in unsaturated model ground and another for in situ heating test related to deep geological repository of high-level radioactive waste (HLRW), are simulated. The model tests on slope failure in unsaturated Shirasu ground, carried out by Kitamura et al. (2007), is simulated in the framework of soil-water-air three-phase coupling under the condition of constant temperature. While the in situ heating test reported by Munoz (2006) is simulated in the same framework under the conditions of variable temperature hut constant air pressure.展开更多

文摘The rapid construction of artificial reservoirs in metropolises has promoted the emergence of city-river-reservoir systems worldwide. This study investigated the environmental behaviors and risks of heavy metals in the aquatic environment of a typical system composed of main watersheds in Suzhou and Jinze Reservoir in Shanghai. Results shown that Mn,Zn and Cu were the dominant metals detected in multiple phases.Cd,Mn and Zn were mainly presented in exchangeable fraction and exhibited high bioavailability.Great proportion and high mobility of metals were found in suspended particulate matter(SPM),suggesting that SPM can greatly affect metal multi-phase distribution process.Spatially, city system(Ci S)exhibited more serious metal pollution and higher ecological risk than river system(Ri S)and reservoir system(Re S)owing to the diverse emission sources.Ci S and Re S were regarded as critical pollution source and sink, respectively, while Ri S was a vital transportation aisle.Microbial community in sediments exhibited evident spatial variation and obviously modified by exchangeable metals and nutrients. In particular,Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes presented significant positive correlations with most exchangeable metals.Risk assessment implied that As,Sb and Ni in water may pose potential carcinogenic risk to human health.Nevertheless,Re S was in a fairly safe state.Hg was the main risk contributor in SPM,while Cu,Zn,Ni and Sb showed moderate risk in sediments.Overall,Hg,Sb and Ci S were screened out as priority metals and system, respectively.More attention should be paid to these priority issues to promote the sustainable development of the watershed.

文摘A total of 80 weathering pits (gnammas), located on granite surfaces of Qing Mountain (青山), Hexigten (克什克腾) Global Geopark, Inner Mongolia, were identified and measured in terms of dimensional and orientational features. In consequence, we suggest that the combination of weathering, especially salt weathering, and wind erosion, both of which are closely related to climatic variation, take the main responsibility for the formation and development of weathering pits in Qing Mountain.

文摘For different flight phases in an overall flight mission, different control and allocation preferences should be pursued considering lift, drag or maneuverability characteristics. The multi-objective flight control allocation problem for a multi-phase flight mission is studied. For an overall flight mission, different flight phases namely climbing, cruise, maneuver and gliding phases are defined.Firstly,a multi-objective control allocation problem considering drag, lift or control energy preference is constructed.Secondly, considering different control preferences at different flight phases, the analytic hierarchical process method is used to construct a comprehensive performance index from different objectives such as lift or drag preferences. The active set based dynamic programming optimization method is used to solve the real-time optimization problem. For the validation, the Innovative Control Effector(ICE)tailless aircraft nonlinear model and the angular acceleration measurements based adaptive Incremental Backstepping(IBKS)are used to construct the validation platform. Finally,an overall flight mission is simulated to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed multi-phase and multi-objective flight control allocation method. The results show that the comprehensive performance index for different phases, which are determined from the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP)method, can suitably satisfy the preference requirements for different flight phases.

文摘Based on the fundamental equations of the mechanics of solid continuum, the paper employs an analytical model for determination of elastic thermal stresses in isotropic continuum represented by periodically distributed spherical particles with different distributions in an infinite matrix, imaginarily divided into identical cells with dimensions equal to inter-particle distances, containing a central spherical particle with or without a spherical envelope on the particle surface. Analytical-(experimental)-computational lifetime prediction methods for multi-phase materials are proposed, which can be used in engineering with appropriate values of parameters of real multi-phase materials.

文摘Batch processes are usually involved with multiple phases in the time domain and many researches on process monitoring as well as quality prediction have been done using phase information. The application to an injection molding process shows the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in comparison with the traditional MPLS method and the phase-based PLS method.

文摘An optimization study using a comprehensive 3D, multi-phase, non-isothermal model of a PEM (proton exchange membrane) fuel cell that incorporates significant physical processes and key parameters affecting fuel cell performance is presented and discussed in detail. Detailed analyses of the fuel cell performance under various operating conditions have been conducted and examined.

文摘Dust generated in mining and tunneling activities is hazardous to health of persons and safety of operations. Experimental results, utilizing an optical particle counting technique to establish the dust-cleaning capabilities of the model, are also described.

文摘Since the jets and detonation gaseous products are separated by sharp interfaces, the traditional smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method is difficult to avoid the computational instability at interfaces. The multi-phase SPH (MSPH) method was applied to improving the stabil-ity, which smoothes the particle density and makes pressure continuous at interfaces. Numericalexamples of jet forming process were used to test capability of the MSPH method. The results show that the method remains algorithm stability for large density gradient between the jets and gaseous products and has potential application to both the explosion and the jet problems. The effect of initiation ways of the shaped charge was discussed as well.

文摘The deformation and micro-voids formation mechanisms in ferrite / bainite( F / B) multi-phase steel with the volume fraction of bainite less than 50% were studied by numerical simulation and experimental observation. Due to the different failure mechanisms of ferrite and bainite,a suitable part of soft phase would be beneficial to the capability of anti-failure of F / B multi-phase steel during the ductile fracture.
文摘In this paper, a finite element method (FEM)-based multi-phase problem based on a newly proposed thermal elastoplastic constitutive model for saturated/unsaturated geomaterial is discussed. While the in situ heating test reported by Munoz (2006) is simulated in the same framework under the conditions of variable temperature hut constant air pressure.
