文摘This study investigates the psychological and cultural motivations that underpin charitable giving in Sri Lanka, with particular attention to whether such behaviour can be considered genuinely altruistic. While charitable acts are commonly perceived as selfless, this research highlights the complex and often contradictory nature of the motivations involved.Using a qualitative approach,semi-structured interviews were conducted with individuals who regularly engage in charitable activities.Thematic analysis revealed three overarching categories of motivation. The first, obliged motives stem from social expectations and religious duty. The second, independent motives reflect personal values and intrinsic satisfaction. The third, ambivalent motives are a novel category that captures the simultaneous interplay between self-serving and other-oriented intentions. The emergence of ambivalent motives is especially significant,as it challenges binary distinctions between altruism and egoism, suggesting that charitable giving frequently serves psychological, social, and existential needs alongside prosocial goals. The findings support established psychological frameworks such as Self-Determination Theory and the Theory of Planned Behavior, while also highlighting the unique cultural dynamics of Sri Lankan society, particularly the influence of Buddhist ethics and collectivist values. These cultural factors shape both the meaning and practice of giving, embedding it within broader narratives of moral obligation, social harmony, and spiritual merit.Ultimately, the study concludes that while charitable giving in Sri Lanka may outwardly appear altruistic,it is often driven by a complex mixture of internal and external motives, suggesting that authenticity in giving is rarely absolute but rather contextually and psychologically mediated.

文摘Background:Online game addiction has become a serious global public health problem among adolescents. However, its influencing factors and mediating mechanisms remain ambiguous. Methods:The present study adopted stratified random sampling to collect 6146 junior high school student samples in China's Mainland. We used regression analysis, and Bootstrap mediation test through SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 24.0 to reveal the tendency of students’online game addiction with different background characteristics and whether autonomy support from parents and teachers can effectively reduce online game addiction. Results:The results showed that parental(β=−0.112,p<0.001)and teacher(β=−0.225,p<0.001)autonomy support were conducive to reducing students’online game addiction.Academic perseverance(β=−0.080,95%CI=[−0.103,−0.058])and academic motivation(β=−0.073,95%CI=[−0.095,−0.052])partially mediated the relationship between autonomy support and online game addiction. Conclusion:This result provides a theoretical basis for educational interventions. It suggests that strengthening autonomy support could enhance students’academic perseverance and motivation and further reduce online game addiction. This study utilized a cross-sectional research design, making it difficult to determine the causal relationship between autonomy support environment and online game addiction.
文摘BACKGROUND Percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)is one of the main treatment methods for myocardial infarction(MI).Despite its positive effects, patients often experience different degrees of anxiety and depression after the intervention. Therefore, effectively changing the emotional state of patients with MI during PCI remains a focus of clinical research.AIM To assess the effect of music therapy and motivational interviewing in young and middle-aged patients with anxiety and depression after PCI.METHODS We collected data from January 2022 to December 2023 from 86 young and middle-aged patients with MI after PCI.They were divided into observation and control groups according to the random throwing method. The observation group consisted of 43 patients undergoing music therapy and motivational interviewing, and the control group(43 cases)underwent music therapy and conventional communication. The two groups were then compared on mood status[Chinese Brief Mood Status Scale(POMS)],coping methods[Medical Coping Methods Questionnaire(MCMQ)Chinese version],and healthy lifestyle behaviors[Heart Health Self-Efficacy and Self-Management(HH-SESM)scale].RESULTS Two weeks post-intervention,the observation group had lower POMS scores, improved MCMQ scores, and higher HH-SESM scores than the control group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The combined intervention of music therapy and motivational interviewing for young and middle-aged patients with anxiety and depression after MI can effectively regulate their mood, reduce anxiety and depression symptoms, and stimulate patients to actively face their condition. It also encourages the formation of healthy behavioral habits.
文摘In 1875,French philosopher Ernest Renan openly stated,“We aspire not to equality but to domination.Countries inhabited by foreign races must become again countries of serfs, farm laborers, and factory workers.”This was a view of global governance based on racism in the 19th century. In 2018,Donald Trump, then President of the United States,in a meeting with members of Congress from both sides of the aisle to discuss reform of the immigration system, talked about immigrants from regions and countries such as Africa and Haiti, and questioned why the United States would take in immigrants from these“shithole countries”.
文摘The quasi-alliance strategy is part of the national security strategy and lies in the grey area between alliance and neutrality.1 In recent years, major countries, including Japan, have positioned quasi-alliance as a feasible unwritten option in their respective national security strategies.2 Japan’s quasialliance strategy was already in its infancy when former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe first came to power in September 2006 but was put on hold after his resignation in September 2007.
文摘Classroom evaluation plays a critical role in shaping students’learning experiences, influencing not only their academic performance but also their motivation and engagement. In the context of primary Chinese language learning, oral feedback and written comments are two prevalent evaluation methods. This paper explores how these different types of feedback impact students’motivation, learning outcomes, and participation.By comparing the immediacy of oral feedback with the systematic nature of written comments, this study seeks to provide insights into how educators can utilize classroom evaluations more effectively to foster motivation in Chinese language learners. The findings indicate that both feedback methods have unique strengths, and a balanced approach may optimize learning outcomes.
文摘In this study,we aim to investigate the reciprocal influence between language motivation and English speaking fluency among language learners, and to draw implications for effective teaching methodologies.By analyzing multiple cases of language learners in conjunction with relevant theories and practical insights, the study uncovers a dynamic correlation between language motivation and speaking fluency. The research findings indicate that heightened language motivation can positively impact learners’speaking fluency, while improved oral skills,in turn, bolster learners’language confidence and motivation.Building on these insights, the study proposes impactful teaching approaches, such as cultivating learners’enthusiasm for language acquisition, providing diverse opportunities for oral practice, and fostering active engagement in language communication. These strategies are designed to enhance language motivation and speaking fluency among learners, offering valuable guidance and reference for educators.
