This paper explores the historical development and modern transformation of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)to dispel the misconception that it is merely“traditional,ancient,backward and unscientific”.TCM,with root...This paper explores the historical development and modern transformation of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)to dispel the misconception that it is merely“traditional,ancient,backward and unscientific”.TCM,with roots in ancient times,has evolved into a comprehensive medical system through the integration of empirical knowledge and theoretical frameworks.This review summarizes TCM’s development from three aspects:(1)Ancient Medical Development:From the Spring and Autumn to Han-Tang periods(770 B.C.E.-907 C.E.),the focus was on summarizing experience.A clear disciplinary classification emerged during the Song and Ming Dynasties(960 C.E.-1644 C.E.),and a complete medical system was established in the Qing Dynasty(1636 C.E.-1912 C.E.).(2)Modern Medical Development:Influenced by the European Industrial Revolution,new natural sciences-based technologies enhanced Western medicine’s diagnostic and treatment efficiency.The promotion of Western medicine in China and its metrological concepts,which underpin metrology-based medicine(MBM),in turn propelled the development of TCM.(3)The integration of modern TCM with metrology science has significantly changed TCM’s treatment and pharmaceutical fields.In recent decades,the introduction of western medicine has advanced TCM,creating a combined approach that leverages the advantages of both traditions.Supported by metrology and modern sciences,this integration has provided new tools for TCM quantification,standardization,and quality control.The paper emphasizes key milestones in TCM history,the impact of Western medicine and metrology on its modernization,and the potential of integrated approaches for complex medical challenges.It highlights the importance of preserving traditional knowledge while innovating to enhance TCM’s efficacy and safety.Future prospects suggest that TCM,combined with Metrology-based medicine,may play a crucial role in treating complex diseases,as modern Chinese medicine(MCM)has evolved with scientific advancements and integration of contemporary techniques.展开更多
While sustainability is widely recognized as a necessary path for development and climate change mitigation,there is no consensus on this concept’s goals and future aspirations.Advocates of a green economy believe th...While sustainability is widely recognized as a necessary path for development and climate change mitigation,there is no consensus on this concept’s goals and future aspirations.Advocates of a green economy believe that economic growth is a prerequisite for long-term progress and the modernization of society.This entails gradually transitioning to a more sustainable economy and addressing carbon emissions.Therefore,there is a need for the scientific community to investigate how different forms of modernization affect carbon emissions.This study examines the impact of modernization on carbon emissions in China,the world’s largest developing economy,focusing on five indicators of sustainable modernization:ecological modernization,agricultural modernization,digitalization,industrialization,and urbanization.The study analyzes data from 31 Chinese provincial-level regions between 2005 and 2020,using the GeoDetector technique to explore the effects of these indicators on carbon emissions.The spatial analysis reveals a distinct“core-periphery”structure of carbon emissions.The findings demonstrate that ecological modernization and digitalization contribute to reducing emissions.On the other hand,industrialization and urbanization have a positive influence on carbon emissions.Interestingly,agricultural modernization initially increases carbon emissions in the short term but has a diminishing effect in the long term.展开更多

文摘Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China(CPC)in 2012,neighborhood diplomacy has been at the top of China’s diplomatic agenda with growing importance.In October 2013,the CPC Central Committee convened the central conference on work related to neighboring countries,first of its kind since the founding of the People’s Republic of China,stressing“let awareness of a community with a shared future take root in the neighboring countries”.
文摘This paper explores the historical development and modern transformation of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)to dispel the misconception that it is merely“traditional,ancient,backward and unscientific”.TCM,with roots in ancient times,has evolved into a comprehensive medical system through the integration of empirical knowledge and theoretical frameworks.This review summarizes TCM’s development from three aspects:(1)Ancient Medical Development:From the Spring and Autumn to Han-Tang periods(770 B.C.E.-907 C.E.),the focus was on summarizing experience.A clear disciplinary classification emerged during the Song and Ming Dynasties(960 C.E.-1644 C.E.),and a complete medical system was established in the Qing Dynasty(1636 C.E.-1912 C.E.).(2)Modern Medical Development:Influenced by the European Industrial Revolution,new natural sciences-based technologies enhanced Western medicine’s diagnostic and treatment efficiency.The promotion of Western medicine in China and its metrological concepts,which underpin metrology-based medicine(MBM),in turn propelled the development of TCM.(3)The integration of modern TCM with metrology science has significantly changed TCM’s treatment and pharmaceutical fields.In recent decades,the introduction of western medicine has advanced TCM,creating a combined approach that leverages the advantages of both traditions.Supported by metrology and modern sciences,this integration has provided new tools for TCM quantification,standardization,and quality control.The paper emphasizes key milestones in TCM history,the impact of Western medicine and metrology on its modernization,and the potential of integrated approaches for complex medical challenges.It highlights the importance of preserving traditional knowledge while innovating to enhance TCM’s efficacy and safety.Future prospects suggest that TCM,combined with Metrology-based medicine,may play a crucial role in treating complex diseases,as modern Chinese medicine(MCM)has evolved with scientific advancements and integration of contemporary techniques.

文摘While sustainability is widely recognized as a necessary path for development and climate change mitigation,there is no consensus on this concept’s goals and future aspirations.Advocates of a green economy believe that economic growth is a prerequisite for long-term progress and the modernization of society.This entails gradually transitioning to a more sustainable economy and addressing carbon emissions.Therefore,there is a need for the scientific community to investigate how different forms of modernization affect carbon emissions.This study examines the impact of modernization on carbon emissions in China,the world’s largest developing economy,focusing on five indicators of sustainable modernization:ecological modernization,agricultural modernization,digitalization,industrialization,and urbanization.The study analyzes data from 31 Chinese provincial-level regions between 2005 and 2020,using the GeoDetector technique to explore the effects of these indicators on carbon emissions.The spatial analysis reveals a distinct“core-periphery”structure of carbon emissions.The findings demonstrate that ecological modernization and digitalization contribute to reducing emissions.On the other hand,industrialization and urbanization have a positive influence on carbon emissions.Interestingly,agricultural modernization initially increases carbon emissions in the short term but has a diminishing effect in the long term.
文摘Persistent efforts are needed to fully implement the guiding principles of the third plenary session of the 20th Communist Party of China(CPC)Central Committee and advance the reform of China's national security work on the new journey that lies ahead.All of us in the Party should never forget our original aspiration.Since the advent of the new era,China has pushed forward and made remarkable achievements in reforming its national security work,undergoing a process of constant evolvement and continuous improvement.The third plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee could be deemed the starting point of comprehensively deepening reform in the new era,opening a new epoch for reforming and innovating China's national security work.It identified modernizing China's system and capacity for governance as the overall goal of further deepening reform comprehensively and,most significantly,made a historic decision to establish the National Security Commission,having far-reaching impacts.General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed pursuing a holistic approach to national security,which provides us with fundamental guidance for further reform.The new version of the National Security Law of the People's Republic of China fully covers China's national security system and will guide the improvement of its legal system for national security in the new era.The fourth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee called for improving China's national security system in efforts to modernize the country's system and capacity for governance.The 20th CPC National Congress clarified the Party's central task on the new journey and made strategic plans for safeguarding Chinese modernization through modernizing the country's national security system and capacity.The third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee carried forward the spirit of the above meetings,from the third plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee to the 20th CPC National Congress,reiterating the importance of further deepening reform comprehensively on the new journey,emphasizing national security as the foundation for advancing Chinese modernization,and setting out the road map and agenda for modernizing China's national security system and capacity in the next five years.Therefore,we must study and implement the guiding principles of the third plenary session of the 2Oth CPC Central Committee.
文摘The concepts of modernization and industrialization have different connotations that are specific to their historical backgrounds,and their theoretical innovation and development may benefit from China’s experiences.Industrialization is the cornerstone of modernization,and holds the key to its success.China’s experiences in blazing a new trail of industrialization are challenging the traditional Western theory of industrialization and deepening the connotations of Chinese modernization.New industrialization is a key entry point for steering China’s modernization drive and theoretical innovations.This paper offers an overview of the theory of Chinese modernization and its evolving trend along China’s socialist industrialization path,as well as the rationale and pathway for new industrialization in the context of Chinese modernization.As our findings suggest,the new industrialization concept has taken hold in every key aspect of Chinese modernization.When combined with the theory of Chinese modernization,the theoretical implications of new industrialization play a crucial role in propelling Chinese modernization forward along a new journey in the new era.
文摘2024 marks the tenth anniversary of a holistic approach to national security.As an important component of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era,a holistic approach to national security provides fundamental guidance for China's national security work in the new era and is,therefore,of great theoretical and practical significance.This approach has several distinct features:it ref lects the trends of our times,is deeply rooted in China's national culture,and follows a people-centered,struggle-oriented,systematic,strategic,in novative,and practice-based approach.By upholding and developing a holistic approach to national security,the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China(CPC)has comprehensively strengthened the Party's absolute leadership over national security,reshaped the systems and mechanisms for national security across the board,and made brilliant achievements in national security work in the new era.Given the context of the momentous changes unseen in a century that shape today's world,the national security situation facing China is increasingly complex and grim,characterized by many challenges and new characteristics.On the new journey toward rejuvenating the nation and building China into a strong country,we should fully implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress,firmly pursue a holistic approach to national security,and accelerate the modernization of China's national security system and capacity to ensure steady and sustained progress in Chinese modernization.
