We study the Rayleigh-Taylor instability(RTI)of electrostatic plane wave perturbations in compressible relativistic magnetoplasma fluids with thermal ions under gravity in three different cases of when(ⅰ)electrons are in isothermal equilibrium,i.e.,classical or nondegenerate,(ⅱ)electrons are fully degenerate(with Te=0),and(ⅲ)electrons are partially degenerate or have finite temperature degeneracy(with Te≠0).While in the cases of(ⅰ)and(ⅲ),we focus on the regimes where the particle's thermal energy is more or less than the rest mass energy,i.e.,βe≡kBTe/mec2<1or>1,the case(ⅱ)considers from weakly to ultra-relativistic degenerate regimes.A general expression of the growth rate of instability is obtained and analyzed in the three different cases relevant to laboratory and astrophysical plasmas,which generalize and advance the previous theory on RTI. 展开更多

This study investigates the dromion structure within the context of(2+1)-dimensional modulated positron-acoustic waves in a magnetoplasma consisting of inertial cold positrons and inertialess nonthermal hot electrons and positrons as well as stationary positive ions.The reductive perturbation approach reduces the fluid governing equations to the plasma model to a Davey–Stewartson system.This study provides a detailed analysis of the influence of many related plasma parameters,including the density ratio of hot and cold positrons,the external magnetic field strength,the nonthermal parameter and the density ratio of electrons and cold positrons,on the growing rate of instability.Using the Hirota Bilinear method,it is found that the system supports some exact solutions,such as one-and two-dromion solutions.The change of plasma parameters significantly enhances the characteristics of dromion solutions.The elastic and inelastic collisions between two dromions are discussed at different times.The relevance of this study can help us to understand the various types of collision between energetic particles in confined plasma during the production of energy by thermonuclear fusion. 展开更多

Magnetoplasma thruster is one of the attractive plasma engines for space propulsion in future manned deep space exploration. Usually two helical antennas are equipped to produce and heat plasmas with separate radio frequency sources. It is presented in this paper that a helical antenna, which is used to launch one wave mode in one direction so far, exhibits bi-directional nature, where the waves with different mode numbers are launched and couple with electrons and ions selectively in opposite directions. A two-dimensional numerical calculation is performed to predict wave propagation and power absorption in a non-uniform hydrogen plasma immersed in a non-uniform external static magnetic field, based on the hot plasma theory. It is confirmed that appropriate choice of the excitation condition of the antenna can select axial propagation direction of specific wave modes and consequently select a species that absorbs power from generated waves. A small-scale experiment is performed to confirm the prediction of the calculation. By measuring a change in electron and ion temperatures due to the wave launch from the helical antenna, it is found that both the production and heating at different axial positions are accomplished simultaneously by one antenna showing that another type of the radio frequency driven magnetoplasma thruster would be achieved. 展开更多

For studying the vortex structure in uniform dense dusty astrophysical conditions, a two-dimensional nonlinear equation is derived employing the quantum magnetoplasma hydrodynamic model and considering the strong collisional effect. The coherent vortex solution is obtained by perturbation analysis method. It is shown that the distribution of the electrostatic potential forms spatially a periodic vortex street, and is controlled temporally by the arbitrary function of time that may lead to abundant spacial distributions. It is found that the dust charge number,collision frequency, electron Fermi wavelength and quantum correction all play significant roles to the spatial distribution of vortex street. 展开更多

For the sake of investigating the drift coherent vortex structure in an inhomogeneous dense dusty magnetoplasma,using the quantum hydrodynamic model a nonlinear controlling equation is deduced when the collision effect is considered.New vortex solutions of the electrostatic potential are obtained by a special transformation method, and three evolutive cases of monopolar vortex chains with spatial and temporal distribution are analyzed by representative parameters. It is found that the collision frequency, particle density, drift velocity, dust charge number, electron Fermi wavelength, quantum correction,and quantum parameter are all influencing factors of the vortex evolution. Compared to the uniform dusty system, the vortex solutions of the inhomogeneous system present richer spatial evolution and physical meaning. These results may explain corresponding vortex phenomena and support beneficial references for the dense dusty plasma atmosphere. 展开更多

In order to study the characteristics of dust acoustic waves in a uniform dense dusty magnetoplasma system, a nonlinear dynamical equation is deduced using the quantum hydrodynamic model to account for dust–neutral collisions. The linear dispersion relation indicates that the scale lengths of the system are revised by the quantum parameter, and that the wave motion decays gradually leading the system to a stable state eventually. The variations of the dispersion frequency with the dust concentration, collision frequency, and magnetic field strength are discussed. For the coherent nonlinear dust acoustic waves, new analytic solutions are obtained, and it is found that big shock waves and wide explosive waves may be easily produced in the background of high dusty density, strong magnetic field, and weak collision. The relevance of the obtained results is referred to dense dusty astrophysical circumstances. 展开更多

The erosion loss of cathode is essential for the lifetime of magnetoplasmadynamic thruster(MPDT).In this work,an endurance test system for MPDT cathodes was designed and developed,and the erosion characteristics,erosion rate and erosion mechanism of the cathode were studied using the system under vacuum condition.The WCe20 hollow cathode was selected to carry out the long-term erosion of 540 h with the argon propellant supply flow rate of40 ml min^(-1),the input current of 25 A,and the central magnetic field intensity of 96 Gs.In order to predict the theoretical service life of cathode,a steady state erosion numerical model was established.The calculation results show that the total erosion rate of sputtering and evaporation is 11.58 mg h^(-1),which is slightly smaller than the test data of the average cathode corrosion rate of 12.70 mg h^(-1) in the experiment,because the experimental value includes start-up erosion rate. 展开更多

Nonlinear Propagation of Positron-Acoustic Periodic Travelling Waves in a Magnetoplasma with Superthermal Electrons and Positrons

The nonlinear propagation of positron acoustic periodic (PAP) travelling waves in a magnetoplasma composed of dynamic cold positrons, superthermal kappa distributed hot positrons and electrons, and stationary positi... The nonlinear propagation of positron acoustic periodic (PAP) travelling waves in a magnetoplasma composed of dynamic cold positrons, superthermal kappa distributed hot positrons and electrons, and stationary positive ions is examined. The reductive perturbation technique is employed to derive a nonlinear Zakharov Kuznetsov equation that governs the essential features of nonlinear PAP travelling waves. Moreover, the bifurcation theory is used to investigate the propagation of nonlinear PAP periodic travelling wave solutions. It is found that kappa distributed hot positrons and electrons provide only the possibility of existence of nonlinear compressive PAP travelling waves. It is observed that the superthermality of hot positrons, the concentrations of superthermal electrons and positrons, the positron cyclotron frequency, the direction cosines of wave vector k along the z-axis, and the concentration of ions play pivotal roles in the nonlinear propagation of PAP travelling waves. Tile present investigation may be used to understand the formation of PAP structures in the space and laboratory plasmas with superthermal hot positrons and electrons. 展开更多

Landau quantization effects on damping Kawahara solitons in electron–positron–ion plasma in rotating ionized medium

For the dynamics of three-dimensional electron–positron–ion plasmas,a fluid quantum hydrodynamic model is proposed by considering Landau quantization effects in dense plasma.Ion–neutral collisions in the presence of the Coriolis force are also considered.The application of the reductive perturbation technique produces a wave evolution equation represented by a damped Korteweg–de Vries equation.This equation,however,is insufficient for describing waves in our system at very low dispersion coefficients.As a result,we considered the highest-order perturbation,which resulted in the damped Kawahara equation.The effects of the magnetic field,Landau quantization,the ratio of positron density to electron density,the ratio of positron density to ion density,and the direction cosine on linear dispersion laws as well as soliton and conoidal solutions of the damped Kawahara equation are explored.The understanding from this research can contribute to the broader field of astrophysics and aid in the interpretation of observational data from white dwarfs. 展开更多

磁等离子体发动机(magnetoplasma rocket engine,MPRE)的离子回旋共振加热(ion cyclotron resonance heating,ICRH)单元将射频能量直接耦合给离子,是发动机的工质加热单元,其加热效果对发动机推力性能有关键影响。为探究ICRH单元的工作... 磁等离子体发动机(magnetoplasma rocket engine,MPRE)的离子回旋共振加热(ion cyclotron resonance heating,ICRH)单元将射频能量直接耦合给离子,是发动机的工质加热单元,其加热效果对发动机推力性能有关键影响。为探究ICRH单元的工作规律,建立了用于模拟MPRE的二维轴对称多流体模型,并采用该模型对MPRE中螺旋波等离子体源与不同输入的ICRH单元进行了模拟。计算结果表明:螺旋波等离子体源在放电过程中由于沉积功率分布发生变化而不断经历模式转变过程,模式转变时电子温度出现峰值,等离子体密度迅速上升;开启ICRH输入后,电子参数基本不变,离子温度有明显提升,表明ICRH单元对离子有明显加热效果,且增加输入电流幅值与输入电流匝数均可显著提高离子温度,实现发动机高比冲工作模式。 展开更多

Using the generalized viscoelastic fluid model, we derive the dielectric response function in a strongly coupled dusty magnetoplasma which reveals two different dust acoustic(DA) wave modes in the hydrodynamic and kinetic limits. The effects of the strong interaction of dust grains and the external magnetic on these DA modes, as well as on the shear wave are examined. It is found that both the real and imaginary parts of DA waves are significantly modified in strongly coupled dusty magnetoplasmas. The implications of our results to space and laboratory dusty plasmas are briefly discussed. 展开更多

New concept of the superconducting magnetic system, stipulating installation of external field winding, in which the current is directed parallel to longitudinal axis of the engine, makes it possible to increase the magnitude of the transversal magnetic field in working chamber, to decrease the rated current and to raise the engine efficiency. On the basis of equations that describe the process of converting electrical energy into mechanical energy, a mathematical model has been composed with whose help the characteristics of magnetoplasma engine having conventional design and the characteristics of the engine being developed in the project have been determined. Conducted research has shown that new design increases engine efficiency from 50% up to 91%. The project also contains a consideration of the new engine design with movable cathode and with cathode having forced cooling which helps to reduce carryover of cathode mass and to increase lifetime by several times. In conclusion, the results of calculations and constructive development of electrorocket engine for flight towards planet Jupiter, which creates tractive force of 250 N at 2500 kW power, are given. 展开更多
