For the reliability and power consumption issues of Ethernet data transmission based on the field programmable gate array (FPGA), a low-power consumption design method is proposed, which is suitable for FPGA implementation. To reduce the dynamic power consumption of integrated circuit (IC) design, the proposed method adopts the dynamic control of the clock frequency. For most of the time, when the port is in the idle state or lower-rate state, users can reduce or even turn off the reading clock frequency and reduce the clock flip frequency in order to reduce the dynamic power consumption. When the receiving rate is high, the reading clock frequency will be improved timely to ensure that no data will lost. Simulated and verified by Modelsim, the proposed method can dynamically control the clock frequency, including the dynamic switching of high-speed and low-speed clock flip rates, or stop of the clock flip. 展开更多

Radio frequency(RF)cavities for advanced storage rings,also known as diffraction-limited storage rings,are under development.To this end,a competitive and promising approach involves normal-conducting continuous wave technology.The design and preliminary test of a 499.654 MHz RF cavity for the Wuhan Advanced Light Source(WALS)based on specific beam parameters were conducted at the SSRF.Multi-objective evolutionary algorithms have been utilized to optimize RF properties,such as the power loss and power density,resulting in better performance in the continuous wave mode.Further improvements were made to suppress multipacting effects in the working area.To operate stably with the beam,higher-order mode dampers were applied to better address the coupling bunch instability than in previous designs,along with thermal analysis to achieve the desired RF performance.Comprehensive simulation studies demonstrated the stable operation of the RF cavity at the defined beam parameters in the WALS design.A prototype RF cavity was then developed,and the RF performance results in a low-power test showed good agreement with the design and simulation,exhibiting readiness for high-power experiments and operation. 展开更多

Although phase-change random-access memory(PCRAM)is a promising next-generation nonvolatile memory technology,challenges remain in terms of reducing energy consumption.This is primarily be-cause the high thermal conductivities of phase-change materials(PCMs)promote Joule heating dissi-pation.Repeated phase transitions also induce long-range atomic diffusion,limiting the durability.To address these challenges,phase-change heterostructure(PCH)devices that incorporate confinement sub-layers based on transition-metal dichalcogenide materials have been developed.In this study,we engi-neered a PCH device by integrating HfTe_(2),which has low thermal conductivity and excellent stability,into the PCM to realize PCRAM with enhanced thermal efficiency and structural stability.HEAT sim-ulations were conducted to validate the superior heat confinement in the programming region of the HfTe_(2)-based PCH device.Moreover,electrical measurements of the device demonstrated its outstanding performance,which was characterized by a low RESET current(∼1.6 mA),stable two-order ON/OFF ratio,and exceptional cycling endurance(∼2×10^(7)).The structural integrity of the HfTe_(2)confinement sub-layer was confirmed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy.The material properties,including electrical conductivity,cohesive energy,and electronegativity,substantiated these findings.Collectively,these results revealed that the HfTe_(2)-based PCH device can achieve significant improvements in performance and reliability compared with conventional PCRAM devices. 展开更多

Thermosyphon loops are widely used in cooling systems.However,such distributed thermal management systems lack the ability to actively control the coolant flow in each parallel branch.An effective method for addressing this is to control the coolant flow in each branch using a solenoid valve.However,the existing valves do not satisfy the requirements for fast switching,low power,low pressure loss,and miniaturization.Therefore,in this study,a low-power-consumption miniature solenoid valve(LMSV)is proposed for use in thermal management systems.The key novelty is that the valve is designed with a suitably sized permanent magnet(PM)to allow the spool to continue working without consuming electrical energy.To achieve low flow resistance,a straight-through design is employed in the valve with the electromagnetic actuator located inside the valve shell.Multiphysical coupling analysis is performed to investigate its performance.The influence of the PM dimensions and current on the magnetic field distribution and electromagnetic force is studied.The effects of these key parameters on the flow field and pressure loss are also analyzed.Because the LMSV is sensitive to temperature,the switching time and energy consumption at different working temperatures are investigated.Experimental test platforms are constructed.A valve switching time of as short as 3 ms,pressure loss of 200 Pa at 0.92 L/min,and energy consumption of approximately 1.55 J during the opening and closing processes are achieved.The novel solenoid valve proposed in this study offers fast switching,low power consumption,low pressure loss,and miniaturization to meet the requirements of thermal management systems. 展开更多

With technological advancements,virtual reality(VR),once limited to high-end professional applications,is rapidly expanding into entertainment and broader consumer domains.However,the inherent contradiction between mobile hardware computing power and the demand for high-resolution,high-refresh-rate rendering has intensified,leading to critical bottlenecks,including frame latency and power overload,which constrain large-scale applications of VR systems.This study systematically analyzes four key technologies for efficient VR rendering:(1)foveated rendering,which dynamically reduces rendering precision in peripheral regions based on the physiological characteristics of the human visual system(HVS),thereby significantly decreasing graphics computation load;(2)stereo rendering,optimized through consistent stereo rendering acceleration algorithms;(3)cloud rendering,utilizing object-based decomposition and illumination-based decomposition for distributed resource scheduling;and(4)low-power rendering,integrating parameter-optimized rendering,super-resolution technology,and frame-generation technology to enhance mobile energy efficiency.Through a systematic review of the core principles and optimization approaches of these technologies,this study establishes research benchmarks for developing efficient VR systems that achieve high fidelity and low latency while providing further theoretical support for the engineering implementation and industrial advancement of VR rendering technologies. 展开更多

Numerous arthropods evolve and optimize sensory systems, enabling them to effectively adapt complex and competitive habitats. Typically, scorpions can precisely perceive the prey location with the lowest metabolic rate among invertebrates. This biological phenomenon contrasts sharply with engineered systems, which generally associates high accuracy with substantial energy consumption. Inspired by the Scorpion Compound Slit Sensilla (SCSS) with a stress field modulation strategy, a bionic positioning sensor with superior precision and minimal power consumption is developed for the first time, which utilizes the particular Minimum Positioning Units (MPUs) to efficiently locate vibration signals. The single MPU of the SCSS can recognize the direction of collinear loads by regulating the stress field distribution and further, the coupling action of three MPUs can realize all-angle vibration monitoring in plane. Experiments demonstrate that the bionic positioning sensor achieves 1.43 degrees of angle-error-free accuracy without additional energy supply. As a proof of concept, two bionic positioning sensors and machine learning algorithm are integrated to provide centimeter (cm)-accuracy target localization, ideally suited for the man-machine interaction. The novel design offers a new mechanism for the design of traditional positioning devices, improving precision and efficiency in both the meta-universe and real-world Internet-connected systems. 展开更多

During the whole service lifetime of aircraft structures with composite materials,impacts are inevitable and can usually cause severe but barely visible damages.Since the occurrences of impact are random and unpredictable,it is a hotspot direction to develop an online impact monitoring system that can meet strict limitations of aerospace applications including small size,light weight,and low power consumption.Piezoelectric(PZT)sensor,being able to generate impact response signals with no external power and cover a large-scale structure with only a small amount of them,is a promising choice.Meanwhile,for real systems,networks with multiple nodes are normally required to monitor large-scale structures in a global way to identify any impact localization confliction,yet the existing studies are mostly evaluated with single nodes instead of networks.Therefore,in this paper,based on a new low-power node designed,a Bluetooth-based digital impact monitoring PZT sensor network is proposed for the first time with its global confliction-solving impact localization method.Evaluations of the system as a network are researched and analyzed on a complex real aircraft wing box for a global confliction-solving impact localization,showing a satisfying high accuracy. 展开更多

This paper describes the implementation of a data logger for the real-time in-situ monitoring of hydrothermal systems. A compact mechanical structure ensures the security and reliability of data logger when used under deep sea. The data logger is a battery powered instrument, which can connect chemical sensors (pH electrode, H2S electrode, H2 electrode) and temperature sensors. In order to achieve major energy savings, dynamic power management is implemented in hardware design and software design. The working current of the data logger in idle mode and active mode is 15 μA and 1.44 mA respectively, which greatly extends the working time of battery. The data logger has been successftdly tested in the first Sino-American Cooperative Deep Submergence Project from August 13 to September 3, 2005. 展开更多

Multidimensional integration and multifunctional com-ponent assembly have been greatly explored in recent years to extend Moore’s Law of modern microelectronics.However,this inevitably exac-erbates the inhomogeneity of temperature distribution in microsystems,making precise temperature control for electronic components extremely challenging.Herein,we report an on-chip micro temperature controller including a pair of thermoelectric legs with a total area of 50×50μm^(2),which are fabricated from dense and flat freestanding Bi2Te3-based ther-moelectric nano films deposited on a newly developed nano graphene oxide membrane substrate.Its tunable equivalent thermal resistance is controlled by electrical currents to achieve energy-efficient temperature control for low-power electronics.A large cooling temperature difference of 44.5 K at 380 K is achieved with a power consumption of only 445μW,resulting in an ultrahigh temperature control capability over 100 K mW^(-1).Moreover,an ultra-fast cooling rate exceeding 2000 K s^(-1) and excellent reliability of up to 1 million cycles are observed.Our proposed on-chip temperature controller is expected to enable further miniaturization and multifunctional integration on a single chip for microelectronics. 展开更多

Brazing filler metals are widely applied,which serve as an industrial adhesive in the joining of dissimilar structures.With the continuous emergence of new structures and materials,the demand for novel brazing filler metals is ever-increasing.It is of great significance to investigate the optimized composition design methods and to establish systematic design guidelines for brazing filler metals.This study elucidated the fundamental rules for the composition design of brazing filler metals from a three-dimensional perspective encompassing the basic properties of applied brazing filler metals,formability and processability,and overall cost.The basic properties of brazing filler metals refer to their mechanical properties,physicochemical properties,electromagnetic properties,corrosion resistance,and the wettability and fluidity during brazing.The formability and processability of brazing filler metals include the processes of smelting and casting,extrusion,rolling,drawing and ring-making,as well as the processes of granulation,powder production,and the molding of amorphous and microcrystalline structures.The cost of brazing filler metals corresponds to the sum of materials value and manufacturing cost.Improving the comprehensive properties of brazing filler metals requires a comprehensive and systematic consideration of design indicators.Highlighting the unique characteristics of brazing filler metals should focus on relevant technical indicators.Binary or ternary eutectic structures can effectively enhance the flow spreading ability of brazing filler metals,and solid solution structures contribute to the formability.By employing the proposed design guidelines,typical Ag based,Cu based,Zn based brazing filler metals,and Sn based solders were designed and successfully applied in major scientific and engineering projects. 展开更多

The quantum entangled photon-pair source,as an essential component of optical quantum systems,holds great potential for applications such as quantum teleportation,quan-tum computing,and quantum imaging.The current workhorse technique for preparing photon pairs involves performing spon-taneous parametric down conversion(SPDC)in bulk nonlinear crystals.However,the current power consumption and cost of preparing entangled photon-pair sources are relatively high,pos-ing challenges to their integration and scalability.In this paper,we propose a low-power system model for the quantum entan-gled photon-pair source based on SPDC theory and phase matching technology.This model allows us to analyze the per-formance of each module and the influence of component cha-racteristics on the overall system.In our experimental setup,we utilize a 5 mW laser diode and a typical type-II barium metabo-rate(BBO)crystal to prepare an entangled photon-pair source.The experimental results are in excellent agreement with the model,indicating a significant step towards achieving the goal of low-power and low-cost entangled photon-pair sources.This achievement not only contributes to the practical application of quantum entanglement lighting,but also paves the way for the widespread adoption of optical quantum systems in the future. 展开更多

This study is the result of ongoing research for a European Union 7th Framework Program Project regarding energy converters for very low heads, and aims to analyze optimization of new cost-effective hydraulic turbine designs for possible implementation in water supply systems (WSSs) or in other pressurized water pipe infrastructures, such as irrigation, wastewater, or drainage systems. A new methodology is presented based on a theoretical, technical and economic analysis. Viability studies focused on small power values for different pipe systems were investigated. Detailed analyses of alternative typical volumetric energy converters were conducted on the basis of mathematical and physical fundamentals as well as computational fluid dynamics (CFD) associated with the interaction between the flow conditions and the system operation. Important constraints (e.g., size, stability, efficiency, and continuous steady flow conditions) can be identified and a search for alternative rotary yolumetric converters is being conducted. As promising cost-effective solutions for the coming years, adapted rotor-dynamic turbomachines and non-conventional axial propeller devices were analyzed based on the basic principles of pumps operating as turbines, as well as through an extensive comparison between simulations and experimental tests. 展开更多

In this paper, we only focus on the hardware side of the problem. We show how to design configurable fixed-point PIDs to satisfy applications requiring minimal power consumption, or high control-rate, or both together. As multiply operation is the engine of PID, we experienced three algorithms: Booth, modified Booth, and a new recursive multi-bit multiplication algorithm. This later enables the construction of finely grained PID structures with bit-level and unit-time precision. Such a feature permits to tailor the PID to the desired performance and power budget. All PIDs are implemented at register-transfer4evel (RTL) level as technology-independent reusable IP-cores. They are reconfigurable according to two compilemtime constants: set-point word-length and latency. Emerging memristive devices offer enormous advantages for applications such as non-volatile memories and inmemory computing(IMC),but there is a rising interest in using memristive technologies for security applications in the era of internet of things(IoT).In this review article,for achieving secure hardware systems in IoT,lowpower design techniques based on emerging memristive technology for hardware security primitives/systems are presented.By reviewing the state-of-the-art in three highlighted memristive application areas,i.e.memristive non-volatile memory,memristive reconfigurable logic computing and memristive artificial intelligent computing,their application-level impacts on the novel implementations of secret key generation,crypto functions and machine learning attacks are explored,respectively.For the low-power security applications in IoT,it is essential to understand how to best realize cryptographic circuitry using memristive circuitries,and to assess the implications of memristive crypto implementations on security and to develop novel computing paradigms that will enhance their security.This review article aims to help researchers to explore security solutions,to analyze new possible threats and to develop corresponding protections for the secure hardware systems based on low-cost memristive circuit designs. 展开更多

In this paper, an Ethernet controller SoC solution and its low power design for testability (DFT) for information appliances are presented. On a single chip, an enhanced one-cycle 8-bit micro controller unit (MCU), media access control (MAC) circuit and embedded memories such as static random access memory (SRAM), read only memory (ROM) and flash are all integrated together. In order to achieve high fault coverage, at the same time with low test power, different DFT techniques are adopted for different circuits: the scan circuit that reduces switching activity is implemented for digital logic circuits; BIST-based method is employed for the on-chip SRAM and ROM. According to the fault-modeling of embedded flash, we resort to a March-like method for flash built in self test (BIST). By all means above, the result shows that the fault coverage may reach 97%, and the SoC chip is implemented successfully by using 0.25 μm two-poly four-metal mixed signal complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology, the die area is 4.8×4.6 mm^2. Test results show that the maximum throughput of Ethemet packets may reach 7Mb·s^1. 展开更多
