The long-term variability of sea surface temperature in the seas east of China in the past 40 a 被引量:9

The global surface temperature change since the mid-19th century has caused general concern and intensive study. However, long-term changes in the marginal seas, including the seas east of China, are not well understood because long-term observations are sparse and, even when they exist, they are over limited areas. Preliminary results on the long-term variability of sea surface temperature (SST) in summer and winter in the seas east of China during the period of 1957-2001 are reported using the Ocean Science Database of Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the coastal hydrological station in situ and satellite data. The results show well-defined warming trends in the study area. However warming and cooling trends vary from decade to decade, with steady and rapid warming trends after the 1980s and complicated spatial patterns. The distribution of SST variation is intricate and more blurred in the areas far away from the Kuroshio system. Both historical and satellite data sets show significant warming trends after 1985. The warming trends are larger and spread to wider areas in winter than in summer, which means decrease in the seasonal cycle of SST probably linked with recently observed increase of the tropical zooplankton species in the region. Spatial structures of the SST trends are roughly consistent with the circulation pattern especially in winter when the meridional SST gradients are larger, suggesting that a horizontal advection may play an important role in the long-term SST variability in winter. 展开更多

Based on observed temperature data since the 1950s, long-term variability of the summer sharp thermocline in the Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass (YSCWM) and East China Sea Cold Eddy (ECSCE) areas is examined. Relationships between the thermocline and atmospheric and oceanic forcing were investigated using multiyear wind, Kuroshio discharge and air temperature data. Results show that: 1) In the YSCWM area, thermocline strength shows about 4-year and 16-year period oscillations. There is high correlation between summer thermocline strength and local atmospheric temperature in summer and the previous winter; 2) In the ECSCE area, interannual oscillation of thermocline strength with about a 4-year period (stronger in El Nifio years) is strongly correlated with that of local wind stress. A transition from weak to strong thermocline during the mid 1970s is consistent with a 1976/1977 climate shift and Kuroshio volume transport; 3) Long-term changes of the thermocline in both regions are mainly determined by deep layer water, especially on the decadal timescale. However, surface water can modify the thermocline on an interannual timescale in the YSCWM area. 展开更多

The Effect of Regional Ocean-Atmosphere Coupling on the Long-term Variability in the Pacific Ocean

A fully coupled ocean-atmosphere model is applied to highlight the mechanism of the long-term variability (including decadal and longer time scales) in the Pacific Ocean. We are interested in the effect of ocean-atmosphere coupling of different regions during these processes. The control run successfully simulates the Pacific long-term variability, whose leading modes are the Pacific (inter) Decadal Oscillation (PDO) and the North Pacific mode (NPM). Furthermore, three numerical experiments are conducted, shutting down the ocean-atmosphere coupling in the North Pacific, the tropical Pacific, and the South Pacific, respectively. The results show that regional ocean-atmosphere coupling is not only important to the strength of local long-term SST variability but also has an influence on the variability further afield. In both the tropical Pacific and North Pacific, this local effect is the main control, which is much more obvious in the tropical regions. The existence of the PDO is extremely dependent on the coupling in the tropical Pacific. However, extratropical coupling, in particular that in the North Pacific, is also important to form its spatial pattern and strengthen the variability in some tropical areas. For the NPM, its existence is primarily determined by the coupling in the North Pacific. 展开更多

High-quality photometric data provided in the literature were used to analyze the pulsation of the star, with the derived multiple frequencies fitted to our new data. Besides the dominant frequency and its harmonics, one low frequency (2.27402 c d^-1) is discovered, which provides a reasonable interpretation for the long-noticed luminosity variation at the maximum and minimum light. Combining the nine new times of light maxima determined from the new data with the 64 times collected from the literature, we analyzed the long-term variability of AD CMi with the O - C technique. The results provide the updated value of period of 0.122974478 days, and seem to be in favor of the model of combination of the evolutionary effect and light-time effect of a binary system, of which some parameters are hereby deduced. 展开更多

Long-Term Hydrologic Variability in the Instrumental Record of California Climate

This study characterizes the instrumental record of California climate for the last 170 years.Our goal is to look for hydrologic variability at decadal and longer time scales that would be consistent with paleoclimate estimates of hydrologic variability in California for the last 3000 years.Our study focuses on meteorological summaries of annual precipitation and temperature.The precipitation records go back as far as 1850;the temperature records go back as far as 1880.California hydrologic records show strong variability at the interannual level due to ENSO forcing.They also all show a strong decadal(∼14 yr)cyclicity and evidence for multi-decadal to centennial variability that is consistent with California paleoclimate studies.California temperature records show a long-term warming of 5°F-6°F(2.8°C-3.4°C)associated with global warming,but there is no evidence for a similar long-term trend in hydrologic variability.Long-term Pacific Ocean variability adjacent to central and northern California,Pacific Decadal Oscillation(PDO)and North Pacific Gyre Oscillation(NPGO),show a similar decadal to centennial pattern of variability that we associate with our long-term hydrologic variability.The positive phase of the NPGO and the negative phase of the PDO are associated with the decadal scale(∼14 yr)dry cycles in California for the last 70 years. 展开更多

This study investigates the reduction in polarization measurement accuracy caused by varying in-cident angles in a liquid crystal variable retarder(LCVR).The phase delay characteristics of the LCVR were examined,with particular emphasis on the influence of different two-dimensional incident angles on phase delay behavior.Building upon the calibration of phase delay under normal incidence,a phase delay calibra-tion model was developed to account for variations in incident angle and driving voltage.A mathematical re-lationship was established between phase delay and the azimuth angle(α)and pitch angle(β).Experimental validation was conducted under three conditions:α=20°,β=0°;α=0°,β=20°;and an arbitrary angle whereα=5°,β=15°.The results demonstrated that the maximum average deviation between theoretical pre-dictions and experimental measurements did not exceed 0.059 rad.The proposed calibration method proved to be both accurate and practical.This approach offers robust support for LCVR parameter calibration and performance optimization in optical systems,particularly in polarization imaging applications. 展开更多

Investigations into the long-term creep behavior of Beishan granite in uniaxial compression were conducted.Four levels of axial stress(60,70,87,and 95 MPa)were applied to rock specimens.Contrasting with earlier research,the long-term creep data in this work present a substantial advancement in the time dimension.Except for the sample subjected to 60 MPa axial loading,which did not fail after a loading duration of 1650 d,the specimens under the other three stresses all failed after sustained constant loading durations of 1204,1023,and 839 d,respectively.A lower envelope of driving stress-ratio for crystalline rocks was obtained,tending towards approximately 0.45 over an infinite time scale.According to the experimental results,as axial stress increases,both the axial strain accumulated in the transient creep process and the strain rate associated with steady-state creep deformation increase exponentially;however,the share of steady-state creep strain remains nearly constant at about82.53%.A novel damage-based creep model was put forward.It provides an enhanced depiction of the comprehensive creep process in rocks,notably improving the accuracy in forecasting the accelerated creep phase,which significantly impacts the long-term stability of engineering structures. 展开更多

While oceanic and coastal acidification has gained increased attention,long-term pH trends and their drivers in large freshwater systems remain poorly understood.The Laurentian Great Lakes are the world’s largest freshwater system,and in many ways resemble marine ecosystems.However,unlike the open ocean and coastal waters where pH has declined due to rising atmospheric CO_(2),no significant pH trends have been observed in the Laurentian Great Lakes,despite significant ecosystem changes driven partly by the invasion of dreissenid mussels.This study examined 41 years of field observations from Lake Michigan to investigate the long-term carbonate chemistry dynamics.Observational results revealed substantial declines in both total alkalinity(TA)and dissolved inorganic carbon(DIC)over the four decades.Mussel shell calcification emerged as the primary mechanism behind these declines,accounting for 97%and 47%of the observed changes in TA and DIC,respectively,lowering water column pH by 0.24 units.Elevated carbon accumulation in soft mussel tissues,coupled with long-term changes in the air-water pCO_(2)gradient during summer,significantly contributed to long-term DIC variations,explaining 18%and 28%of the lake-wide DIC loss.These two mechanisms also resulted in an overall pH increase of 0.09 and 0.12 units,largely offsetting the calcification-driven pH decrease.These findings bridge a gap in acidification research for large freshwater systems and provide valuable insights for comprehensive lake-wide management strategies. 展开更多

Background:Studies have shown that heart rate variability(HRV)is a predictor of the prognosis of cardiovascular diseases.Contact heartbeat monitoring equipment is widely used,especially in hospitals,and benefits from the rapidity and accuracy of the detection of physiological health indicators.However,long-term contact with equipment has many adverse effects.The purpose of this study was to improve the accuracy of HRV detection via noncontact equipment,thus enabling HRV to be assessed in various scenarios.Methods:A novel deep learning approach was proposed for measuring heartbeats through camera videos.First,we performed facial segmentation and divided the face into 16 grid cells with different light balance scores.After the trend is filtered by the Hamming window,a transformer-based neural network is used to further filter the signal.Finally,heart rate(HR)and HRV are estimated.Results:We used 1 million synthetic data points for pretraining and a public dataset in combination with a dataset that we constructed for task training.The final results were obtained on a test dataset that we constructed.The accuracy for HR with a low light balance score(0.867-0.983)was greater than that with a high score(0.667-0.750).Our method had higher accuracy in estimating HR than traditional filtering methods(0.167-0.417)and state-of-the-art neural network filtering methods(0.783-0.917)did.The root mean square error of the HRV from the time domain was the lowest,and the correlation index score was the highest for the HRV from the frequency domain estimated by our method compared with those estimated by two neural networks.Conclusions:Light balance,large sample training,and two-stage training can improve the accuracy of HRV estimation. 展开更多

The Moroccan populations of Alnus glutinosa(L.)Gaertn.(Betulaceae)They are located at the southern limit of the species'distribution and are represented by tetraploid cytotypes.Assessing phenotypic variability in reproductive traits is crucial for understanding the persistence,evolution,and range dynamics of plant populations.However,no previous studies have analyzed the relative importance of variability in explaining inter-or intra-population differences in reproductive traits.To address this gap,we investigated phenotypic variation in reproductive organs by examining 10 traits in 3.600 male catkins,3.600 female catkins,and seeds from 12 populations across the Moroccan Rif Mountains.Our results highlighted the significance of inter-population variability.However,we found that the contribution of within-tree variation to total phenotypic variability was greater than that of both inter-and intra-population variation.Principal component analysis(PCA)revealed a phenotypic gradient among populations,primarily driven by female catkin size,though this gradient was not associated with geographic conditions.This finding was further supported by Mantel test results,which showed no correlation between phenotypic variability and population conditions.These findings have important implications for the genetic improvement,conservation,and resource management of Alnus glutinosa in the future. 展开更多

Tree growth variability is a key determinant of forest stabilities.Previous studies have shown that recent climate change has increased variability in tree growth,while others have challenged this viewpoint,leading to ongoing debate in this field.Moreover,gaps remain in understanding the climatic mechanisms driving increased tree growth variability,particularly for species simultaneously limited by multiple climate factors.In this study,we assessed the temporal trends in variability of Picea purpurea radial growth and its linkage with growth-climate sensitivity utilizing dendrochronological methods.Our results revealed a significant increase in P.purpurea radial growth variability from 1960 to 2020,as indicated by continuous rises in the standard deviation,coefficient of variation,and mean sensitivity of tree-ring width indices.The increased frequency of extreme growth declines further supported this finding.Furthermore,moisture condition in July was identified as a key limiting factor of P.purpurea growth.Notably,the strengthening relationship between tree-ring width indices and vapor pressure deficit(VPD)suggests that the moisture sensitivity for P.purpurea growth has increased over the period 1960-2020.This enhanced sensitivity to VPD,whose interannual variability has also increased synchronously,may have contributed to the rise in P.purpurea growth variability.Additionally,the maximum temperature in May was positively correlated with P.purpurea growth;however,there is little evidence that this factor contributed to the observed increase in growth variability.These findings provide new insights into P.purpurea growth trends and improve our understanding of the potential future impacts of climate change on forest ecosystems. 展开更多

Analysis of Long-term Prognosis and Cosmetic Outcomes of Breast-conserving Surgery Combined with Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy for Early-stage Breast Cancer

Objective:To investigate the long-term prognosis and postoperative cosmetic outcomes of breast-conserving surgery combined with sentinel lymph node biopsy in patients with early-stage breast cancer,providing a reference for the selection of clinical treatment plans.Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 68 patients with early-stage breast cancer admitted from January 2022 to December 2025.Based on the surgical approach,patients were divided into an observation group(breast-conserving surgery+sentinel lymph node biopsy)and a control group(other surgical methods such as modified radical mastectomy/total mastectomy).Clinical and pathological characteristics,incidence of postoperative complications,follow-up prognosis,and satisfaction with cosmetic outcomes were compared between the two groups.Results:Among the 68 patients,41 were in the observation group and 27 in the control group.The average age of patients in the observation group was(54.32±8.15)years,while that in the control group was(62.45±9.76)years.The average tumor size in the observation group was(1.86±0.72)cm,compared to(3.21±1.45)cm in the control group.The incidence of postoperative complications in the observation group was 9.76%,significantly lower than that in the control group at 33.33%(P<0.05).The 6-month disease-free survival rate was 95.12%in the observation group and 88.89%in the control group,with no statistically significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).The excellent and good rate of cosmetic outcomes in the observation group was 87.80%,significantly higher than that in the control group at 29.63%(P<0.05).Conclusion:Breast-conserving surgery combined with sentinel lymph node biopsy for early-stage breast cancer can achieve long-term prognostic outcomes comparable to those of traditional radical surgery,with the advantages of fewer postoperative complications and superior cosmetic results.This approach is worthy of clinical promotion and application,particularly for early-stage breast cancer patients who have a demand for preserving breast morphology. 展开更多

As a vital food crop,rice is an important part of global food crops.Studying the spatiotemporal changes in rice cultivation facilitates early prediction of production risks and provides support for agricultural policy decisions related to rice.With the increasing application of satellite remote sensing technology in crop monitoring,remote sensing for rice cultivation has emerged as a novel approach,offering new perspectives for monitoring rice planting.This paper briefly outlined the current research and development status of satellite remote sensing for monitoring rice cultivation both at home and abroad.Foreign scholars have made innovations in data sources and methodologies for satellite remote sensing monitoring,and utilized multi-source satellite information and machine learning algorithms to enhance the accuracy of rice planting monitoring.Scholars in China have achieved significant results in the study of satellite remote sensing for monitoring rice cultivation.Their research and application in monitoring rice planting areas provide valuable references for agricultural production management.However,satellite remote sensing monitoring of rice still faces challenges such as low spatiotemporal resolution and difficulties related to cloud cover and data fusion,which require further in-depth investigation.Additionally,there are shortcomings in the accuracy of remote sensing monitoring for fragmented farmland plots and smallholder farming.To address these issues,future efforts should focus on developing multi-source heterogeneous data fusion analysis technologies and researching monitoring systems.These advancements are expected to enable high-precision large-scale acquisition of rice planting information,laying a foundation for future smart agriculture. 展开更多

Thermal-mechanical damage and deformation at the interface between shotcrete linings and the surrounding rock of tunnels under high-temperature and variable-temperature conditions are critical to the safe construction and operation of tunnel engineering.This study investigated the thermo-mechanical damage behavior of the composite interface between alkali-resistant glass fiber-reinforced concrete(ARGFRC)and granite,focusing on a plateau railway tunnel.Laboratory triaxial tests,laser scanning,XRD analysis,numerical simulations,and theoretical analyses were employed to investigate how different initial curing temperatures and joint roughness coefficient(JRC)influence interfacial damage behavior.The results indicate that an increase in interface roughness exacerbates the structural damage at the interface.At a JRC of 19.9 and a temperature of 70℃,crack initiation in granite was notably restrained when the confining pressure rose from 7 MPa to 10 MPa.Roughness-induced stress distribution at the interface was notably altered,although this effect became less pronounced under high confining pressure conditions.Additionally,during high-temperature curing,thermal stress concentration at the tips of micro-convex protrusions on the granite surface induced microcracks in the adjacent ARGFRC matrix,followed by deformation.These findings provide practical guidelines for designing concrete support systems to ensure tunnel structural safety in high-altitude regions with harsh thermal environments. 展开更多

Taking the rural low-income population of Zhejiang Province as its subject, this paper examines how to build a sustainable income-growth mechanism and identify feasible implementation paths within the context of the common prosperity strategy. The research identifies key obstacles to income expansion, including an undiversified industrial structure, insufficient human capital, and a lack of robust social protection. These call for systemic solutions featuring institutional innovation, resource consolidation, and capability enhancement. Building on Zhejiang's experience as a common prosperity demonstration zone, the article constructs an integrated framework centered on four pillars: industrial empowerment, education upgrading, social security reinforcement, and digital coordination. It further offers concrete policy proposals involving the cultivation of localized industries, vocational skill training, enhanced safety nets, and the adoption of digital tools. The study thus offers both theoretical insights and practical paradigms for tackling the challenge of raising incomes in low-income rural areas. 展开更多

AIM:To investigate the long-term outcomes in acute primary angle closure(APAC)patients treated with lens extraction(LE)surgery and to identify risk factors for glaucomatous optic neuropathy(GON).METHODS:In this longitudinal observational study,detailed medical histories of APAC patients and comprehensive ophthalmic examinations at final followup were collected.Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify predictors of blindness.Univariate and multivariate linear regression analyses were conducted to determine risk factors associated with visual outcomes.RESULTS:This study included 39 affected eyes of 31 subjects(26 females)with an average age of 74.1±8.0y.At 6.7±4.2y after APAC attack,2(5.7%)eyes had bestcorrected visual acuity(VA)worse than 3/60.Advanced glaucomatous visual field loss was observed in 15(39.5%)affected eyes and 5(25.0%)fellow eyes.Nine affected eyes(23.7%)had GON,and 11(28.9%)were blind.Six(15.4%)affected eyes and 2(9.1%)fellow eyes had suspicious progression.A significantly higher blindness rate in factory workers compared to office workers.Logistic regression identified that worse VA at attack(OR 10.568,95%CI 1.288-86.695;P=0.028)and worse early postoperative VA(OR 13.214,95%CI 1.157-150.881;P=0.038)were risk factors for blindness.Multivariate regression showed that longer duration of elevated intraocular pressure(P=0.004)and worse early postoperative VA(P=0.009)were associated with worse visual outcomes.CONCLUSION:Despite LE surgery,some APAC patients experience continued visual function deterioration.Lifelong monitoring is necessary.Target pressure and progression rates should be re-evaluated during follow-up. 展开更多

Subarachnoid hemorrhage is a subtype of stroke that causes severe neurological damage and is associated with poor long-term prognosis.Cognitive impairment is a major manifestation of long-term neurological dysfunction in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage.However,there is notable absence of biological markers to predict long-term prognosis in this patient population.Given the aging-like neurocognitive phenomena associated with subarachnoid hemorrhage,this study postulates that telomere length,a recognized biomarker for aging,could be used as a prognostic indicator for subarachnoid hemorrhage.A left internal carotid artery intravascular puncture mouse model was used to simulate subarachnoid hemorrhage.Comprehensive neurological test scores were obtained through neurobehavioral assessments conducted at one-month intervals.Concurrently,the relative telomere length was analyzed by quantitative polymerase chain reaction,which was performed using DNA extracted from ear notch and brain tissue after each assessment.Furthermore,proteomic analysis was employed to investigate differential protein expression in hippocampal tissue.Subarachnoid hemorrhage mice exhibited persistent neurocognitive impairment over a prolonged period of time.There was a significant positive correlation between telomere length and neurological test scores,confirming the usefulness of telomere length as a prognostic indicator in subarachnoid hemorrhage.Hippocampal tissue from subarachnoid hemorrhage mice showed reduced expression of acetyl-coenzyme A synthetase-2 and abnormalities in the expression of proteins related to ribosomes,energy metabolism,and cellular signal transduction.This study confirmed telomere shortening in the brain and metabolic disturbances in the hippocampi of subarachnoid hemorrhage mice.Thus,telomere length is a predictive marker for long-term impairment of cognitive function in mice following experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage. 展开更多
