The introduction of Buddhism to Tibet started the Sinicization of Buddhism forming a Buddhist doctrine with distinct Tibetan characteristics of China,during which the spread and development of Buddhist arts,especially...The introduction of Buddhism to Tibet started the Sinicization of Buddhism forming a Buddhist doctrine with distinct Tibetan characteristics of China,during which the spread and development of Buddhist arts,especially the statue making promoted.Buddhist statues are not only an important part of Tibetan Buddhist culture but also reflect the religious and social contexts of the time.A numerous Buddhist statues were carved across Tibet during the Qing Dynasty,which exemplify the model of combining religious and secular affairs and enriches the artistic forms of Tibetan Buddhist statues.Referencing to the Autobiography of the 5th Dalai Lama:The Silk Cloth and Biography of 6th Dalai Lama Tsangyang Gyatso:Gold Ear of Grain written by Disi Sangye Gyatso,this article conducts a comparative study on the rock curving Buddha statues and stupas constructed in the time,concludes that the carving statues during 5th Dalai Lam and 6th Panchen Lama aimed to achieve social stability and well-being of the people.This paper also explores the initial period of this phenomenon based on the carving records,provides references in the academic research on the history of carving Buddha statues across Tibet in the 17th century.展开更多
