Linearly polarized photodetectors(PDs),leveraging the inherent structural and material information encoded in light's polarization state,hold transformative potential for applications ranging from remote sensing to biomedical imaging.Traditional systems that rely on external polarizing elements face challenges in miniaturization and efficiency,driving interest in materials with intrinsic anisotropy.Low-dimensional metal halide perovskites,distinguished by their tunable bandgaps,high carrier mobility,and quantum confinement effects,have emerged as a groundbreaking platform for next-generation polarized PDs.This review comprehensively summarizes the theory,materials,and device engineering of linearly polarized PDs based on low-dimensional perovskites.It aims to elucidate polarization mechanisms across dimensions by establishing a rigorous theoretical foundation for linearly polarized PDs of low-dimensional perovskites.Beyond theoretical insights,the review also highlights cutting-edge fabrication techniques for one-dimensional nano wires and two-dimensional heterostructures,along with performance benchmarks of state-of-the-art devices.By integrating experimental advancements with theoretical insights,this work not only advances the fundamental understanding of polarization mechanisms but also outlines actionable pathways for optimizing device performance,stability,and scalability,which may serve as a critical resource for researchers aiming to harness the full potential of low-dimensional perovskites in polarized optoelectronics. 展开更多

A compact linearly polarized, low-noise, narrow-linewidth, single-frequency fiber laser at 1950nm is demonstrated. This compact fiber laser is based on a 21-mm-long homemade Tm3+-doped germanate glass fiber. Over 100-mW stable continuous-wave single transverse and longitudinal mode lasing at 195Ohm are achieved. The measured relative intensity noise is less than -135dB/Hz at frequencies over 5 MHz. The signal-to-noise ratio of the laser is larger than 72dB, and the laser linewidth is less than 6kHz, while the obtained linear polarization extinction ratio is higher than 22 dB. 展开更多

In this paper,we demonstrate an all-fiber linearly polarized fiber laser oscillator.The single polarization of the oscillator is achieved through the careful designing of the active fiber coiling.The relationship between fiber coiling diameter and polarization extinction ratio and optical efficiency is studied,whose results lead to an optimized system.The thermal management of the oscillator is also refined,which allows the oscillator to reach a maximum output power of44.1 W with an optical-to-optical efficiency of 57.9%.A high average polarization extinction ratio of 21.6 d B is achieved during a 2-hour stability test.The oscillator also owns a narrow 3-d B bandwidth of 0.1 nm,as well as near-diffraction-limit beam quality of M^2~ 1.14. 展开更多

We investigate the ellipticity of the high-order harmonic generation from the oriented H_(2)^(+)exposed to a linearly polarized laser field by numerically solving the two-dimensional time-dependent Schrodinger equation(2 D TDSE).Numerical simulations show that the harmonic ellipticity is remarkably sensitive to the alignment angle.The harmonic spectrum is highly elliptically polarized at a specific alignment angleθ=30°,which is insensitive to the variation of the laser parameters.The position of the harmonic intensity minima indicates the high ellipticity,which can be attributed to the two-center interference effect.The high ellipticity can be explained by the phase difference of the harmonics.This result facilitates the synthesis of a highly elliptical isolated attosecond pulse with duration down to 65 as,which can be served as a powerful tool to explore the ultrafast dynamics of molecules and study chiral light-matter interaction. 展开更多

Just like an electronic diode that allows the electrical current to flow in one direction only, a kind of chiral metamaterial structure with a similar functionality for the electromagnetic wave is proposed. The designed nanostructure that consists of twisted metallic split-ring resonators on both sides of a dielectric substrate achieves asymmetric transmission for a forward and backward propagating linearly polarized wave by numerical simulation in near-infrared band. Difference in transmission efficiency of the optimized structure between the same polarized waves incident from opposite directions can reach a maximum at the communication wavelength (1.55 μm). Moreover, the simulation results of this structure also exhibit strong optical activity and circular dichroism. 展开更多

We propose a scheme to coherently control the field-free orientation of NO molecule whose rotational temperature is above 0 K. It is found that the maximum molecular orientation is affected by two factors: one is the sum of the population of M = 0 rotational states and the other is their distribution, however, their distribution plays a much more significant role in molecular orientation than the sum of their population. By adopting a series of linearly polarized pulses resonant with the rotational states, the distribution of M = 0 rotational states is well rearranged. Though the number of pulses used is small, a relatively high orientation degree can be obtained. This scheme provides a promising approach to the achievement of a good orientation effect. 展开更多

A linearly polarized operation Ho: YAG laser at 2090.5 nm with a corner cube cavity is demonstrated. A polarizer with high reflectivity for the s-polarized light at the laser wavelength is employed to achieve a linearly polarized laser. In the same case of resonator length, the corner cube can be used to cut the volume of the Ho:YAG laser and to enhance the stability of the system. The maximum linearly polarized output power of 5.8 W is achieved at the absorbed pump power of 23.3 W, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 29.7%, and the optical-optical conversion efficiency is around 24.9%. The M2 factors of the 2.09μm laser are 2.4 and 1.2 along the horizontal and vertical directions, respectively. 展开更多

The turbulent motion of the CEL is investigated by a simple model, which is verified by particlein-cell(PIC) simulations. It is found that the compressed layer disperses in a few cycles of the laser duration, because the CEL comes back with a large velocity in the opposite direction of the laser incident. A larger wavelength laser can be used to tailor the proton beam by reducing the turbulence of the CEL in the region of the LP laser acceleration. 展开更多

Liquid crystalline (LC) polymers with a shish-kebab-type moiety on their cross-conjugated (p-phenylene)s-poly(p- phenylenevinylene)s main chains were synthesized through Gilch polymerization in order to develop a kind of polymers available for linearly polarized white-light-emitting from single chain. In this system, the 2,5-bis(4'-alkoxyphenyl)benzene as the "kebabs" connects with poly(p-phenylenevinylene) (PPV) main chain backbone using its molecular gravity center and the PPV as the "shish" or "skewer" (the "shish-kebab"). The polymers possess desirable properties such as excellent solubility and liquid crystalline properties. To drop the "kebabs" of the 2,5-bis(4'-alkoxyphenyl)benzene into the orientation microgroove of aligned polyimide film, not only the "shish" of polymer main chain can be aligned by the virtue of orientation of "kebabs" but also the uniform cross-conjugated structure between the "kebabs" and "shish" can be broken. Then, the alignment of the polymer main chain showed yellow light emission and was also accompanied by orientation of the LC side chains showing blue light emission, this gave rise to a notable linearly polarized white fluorescence. 展开更多

The dynamic dipole polarizability of a non-zero angular moment level has correlation with the polarization direction of the linearly polarized laser beam, and we show that the four hyperfine structure levels of 4S1/2,m=±1/2 and 3d5/2,m=±1/2 for ^40Ca^+ have the same dynamic dipole polarizability at the magic wavelength and a certain polarization direction. In addition, the existence of a specific direction of polarization may provide a new idea for improving the precision of magic wavelength measurement in experiment. 展开更多

We presented a novel orthogonally linearly polarized Nd:YVO4 laser. Two pieces of a-cut grown-together composite YVO4/Nd:YVO4 crystals were placed in the resonant cavity with the c-axis of the two crystals orthogonally. The polarization and power performance of the orthogonally polarized laser were investigated. A 26.2-W orthogonally linearly polarized laser was obtained. The power ratio between the two orthogonally polarized lasers was varied with the pump power caused by the polarized mode coupling. The longitudinal modes competition and the corresponding variable optical beats were also observed from the orthogonally polarized laser. We also adjusted the crystals with their c-axis parallele to each other, and a 40.7-W linearly polarized TEM00 laser was obtained, and the beam quality factors were Mx^2 = 1.37 and My^2 = 1.25. 展开更多

We demonstrated the~2.8-μm and~3.5-μm linearly polarized continuous wave(CW)laser outputs from a polarization-maintaining(PM)Er^(3+)-doped fluoride fiber laser.By introducing a film polarizer into the cavity to select the laser polarization orientation,the~2.8-μm linearly polarized CW laser with a high polarization extinction ratio(PER)of~23 dB and maximum output power of 2.37 W was achieved under double-end pumping at 976 nm.By adding another 1981-nm pump source simultaneously,the~3.5-μm linearly polarized CW laser was also obtained,giving higher PER of~27 dB and maximum output power of 307 mW which is only limited by the available power of 1981-nm pump.To the best of our knowledge,this is the first report on a mid-infrared linearly polarized CW PM fiber laser in the>2.5-μm mid-infrared region.This work not only opens up opportunities for some new mid-infrared applications,but also provides a promising platform for developing high-stability and versatile mid-infrared laser sources. 展开更多

High Efficiency Asymmetric Transmission of Linearly Polarized Waves through a Three-Layered Chiral Metamaterial

In this paper, we propose a three-layered chiral metamaterial (CMM) that exhibits an asymmetric transmission effect for linearly polarized waves along forwardly and backwardly propagating in the microwave region, which not only realizes the asymmetric transmission effect of multi-frequency points for linearly polarized wave in microwave band, but also breaks through the limitation of single transformation from linear polarization to linear polarization. Numerical simulation results indicate that incident wave for linearly polarized waves will be converted and transmitted as a circularly polarized wave along the forward direction at 8.31 GHz. Moreover, the asymmetric transmission (AT) parameter Δ achieves 0.8 around 12 GHz, proving the existence of strong polarization conversion and diode-like function. The proposed CMM shows great potential applications in high performance linear polarization convertor and isolator in microwave frequency. 展开更多

Influences of linearly polarized light and linearly polarized vectors on the visual selection sensitivity and polartactic response effect of locusts

To clarify the function effect of spectrum and linear polarization-coupled light on locusts’induction,determine the influence factors of linearly polarized light on locusts’polartactic characteristics,construct the technical characteristics of locusts’polarization induction,and develop locusts’polartactic induction photo-source,this study investigated the functional influence of spectral light and linear polarization-coupled light on locust phototactic and polartactic behavior.A linearly polarized light source system was used to determine the polartactic response of locusts induced by different linearly polarized vectors under normal light conditions.The results demonstrated that,within the context of spectral and linear polarization-coupled light,the visual response sensitivity of locusts was related to the spectral light intensity,being highest in response to orange light intensity.The visual aggregation and selective sensitivities of locusts were both influenced by spectral irradiation distance,with the violet spectrum inducing the strongest sensitivity in both cases.The polartactic chord function tuning response characteristics at different angles(0°-360°)were associated with linear polarization spectrum attributes.The polartactic response of locusts was related to changes in visual sensitivity resulting from the distance from the linear polarization light source,being optimal in response to the orange spectrum,whereas the violet spectrum induced the optimal visual and polartactic aggregation sensitivities.Furthermore,the specificity of chord function tuning response characteristics with periodic vector variations in a heterogeneous spectrum showed significant changes.An orange spectrum vector mode led to the most pronounced changes in response,whereas the violet spectrum vector mode exhibited the most significant changes in chord function properties.These variations in chord function and period induced by spectrum impacted the functional effect of linear polarization vector modes and reset the sensitive vector of locust polarization vision.Specifically,under the orange spectrum,locusts exhibited the highest polartactic response sensitivity at 330°vector,whereas,under the violet spectrum,the polartactic aggregation sensitivity was most pronounced at 30°vector,and visual trend sensitivity was optimal at 120°vector.Our results provide theoretical support for the study of the specific sensitivity nature of locust phototactic and polartactic behaviors,and the construction of a mechanism for inducing the polarization spectrum in locusts. 展开更多

In this paper, we propose and experimentally investigate a linearly polarized narrow-linewidth random fiber laser(RFL) operating at 1080 nm and boost the output power to kilowatt level with near-diffraction-limited beam quality using a master oscillation power amplifier. The RFL based on a half-opened cavity, which is composed of a linearly polarized narrow-linewidth fiber Bragg grating and a 500 m piece of polarization-maintained Ge-doped fiber, generates a 0.71 W seed laser with an 88 pm full width at half-maximum(FWHM) linewidth and a 22.5 dB polarization extinction ratio(PER) for power scaling. A two-stage fiber amplifier enhances the seed laser to the maximal 1.01 k W with a PER value of 17 dB and a beam quality of M_x^2=1.15 and M_y^2=1.13. No stimulated Brillouin scattering effect is observed at the ultimate power level, and the FWHM linewidth of the amplified random laser broadens linearly as a function of the output power with a coefficient of about 0.1237 pm∕W.To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of a linearly polarized narrow-linewidth RFL with even kilowatt-level near-diffraction-limited output, and further performance scaling is ongoing. 展开更多

We report on the high-power amplification of a 1064 nm linearly polarized laser in an all-fiber polarizationmaintained master oscillator power amplifier,which can operate at an output power level of 1.3 kW.The beam quality(M^2) was measured to be <1.2 at full power operation.The polarization extinction rate of the fiber amplifier was measured to be above 94% before mode instabilities(MIs) set in,which reduced to about 90% after the onset of MI.The power scaling capability of strategies for suppressing MI is analyzed based on a semianalytical model,the theoretical results of which agree with the experimental results.It shows that mitigating MI by coiling the gain fiber is an effective and practical method in standard double-cladding large mode area fiber,and,by tight coiling of the gain fiber to the radius of 5.5 cm,the MI threshold can be increased to three times higher than that without coiling or loose coiling.Experimental studies have been carried out to verify the idea,which has proved that MI was suppressed successfully in the amplifier by proper coiling. 展开更多

A high power linearly polarized tunable Raman random fiber laser(RFL) was studied theoretically and experimentally. The parameters required for the system design were obtained through numerical simulation, based on which a hundred-watt-level linearly polarized tunable RFL was successfully demonstrated. The central wavelength can be continuously tuned from 1113.76 to 1137.44 nm, and the output power exceeds 100 W for all of the lasing wavelengths with the polarization extinction ratio(PER) exceeding 20 d B at the maximum output power.Besides, the linewidth, spectral evolution, and temporal dynamics of a specified wavelength(1124.72 nm) were investigated in detail. Moreover, the theoretical results and the experimental results fit well. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time for a hundred-watt-level linearly polarized tunable RFL ever reported. 展开更多

A fiber loop mirror (FLM) servi... In this study, we demonstrate an all-fiber high-power linearly-polarized tunable Raman fiber laser system. An in- house high-power tunable fiber laser was employed as the pump source. A fiber loop mirror (FLM) serving as a high reflectivity mirror and a flat-cut endface serving as an output coupler were adopted to provide broadband feedback. A piece of 59-m commercial passive fiber was used as the Raman gain medium. The Raman laser had a 27.6 nm tuning range from 1112 nm to 1139.6 nm and a maximum output power of 125.3 W, which corresponds to a conversion efficiency of 79.4%. The polarization extinction ratio (PER) at all operational wavelengths was measured to be over 21 dB. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on a hundred-watt level linearly-polarized tunable Raman fiber laser. 展开更多

Locust and grasshopper plagues pose a serious threat to crop production in many areas worldwide.However,there is a lack of effective,quick-acting methods to control such outbreaks.Methods exploiting the phototactic response of these insects are receiving increasing attention.The current study investigated the effect of linearly polarized and unpolarized light on locust phototactic and polarotactic responses,in particular the function of their dorsal rim area(DRA)and non-DRA visual fields.The results showed that the polarotactic function weight of DRA vision was stimulated by linearly polarized ultraviolet(UV)and violet light,the phototactic function weight was induced by blue,green,and orange light,and under linearly polarized light,the functional effect of DRA vision was strongest in response to linearly polarized violet light.Moreover,the locust visual response effect was related to spectral light attributes,with the linear polarization effect intensifying in response to the short-range vision sensitivity of non-DRA visual fields,whereas DRA vision regulated the short-range sensitivity of compound eye vision.When illumination increased,the synergistic enhancement effects of linearly polarized ultraviolet and violet light were significant,whereas the visual sensitivity was restricted significantly by linearly polarized blue,green,or orange light.Thus,non-DRA vision determined,while DRA vision enhanced,the phototactic response sensitivity,whereas,in linearly polarized UV or violet light,non-DRA vision determined,while DRA vision enhanced,the visual trend and polarotaxic aggregation sensitivity,with opposite effects in linearly polarized blue,green,or orange light.When illumination increased,there was a driving effect caused by linearly polarized violet light on non-DRA vision,whereas at short-wave lengths,the control effect induced by linearly polarized orange light was optimal;however,the photo-induced effect of linearly polarized violet light and the visual distance control effect of linearly polarized orange light were optimal.These results provide theoretical support for the photo-induced mechanism of the locust visual response effect and for the development of linearly polarized light sources for the environmentally friendly prevention and control of locust populations. 展开更多
