In this paper,an incremental contact model is developed for the elastic self-affine fractal rough surfaces under plane strain condition.The contact between a rough surface and a rigid plane is simplified by the accumulation of identical line contacts with half-width given by the truncated area divided by the contact patch number at varying heights.Based on the contact stiffness of two-dimensional flat punch,the total stiffness of rough surface is estimated,and then the normal load is calculated by an incremental method.For various rough surfaces,the approximately linear load-area relationships predicted by the proposed model agree well with the results of finite element simulations.It is found that the real average contact pressure depends significantly on profile properties. 展开更多

Wear and scuffing failures often occur in marine transmission gears due to high friction and flash temperature at the interface between the meshing-teeth.In this paper,a numerical solution procedure was developed for the predictions of transient friction and flash temperature in the marine timing gears during one meshing circle based on the 3D line contact mixed lubrication simulation,which had been verified by comparing the flash temperature with those from Blok’s theory.The effect of machined surface roughness on the mixed lubrication characteristics is studied.The obtained results for several typical gear pairs indicate that gear pair 4-6 exhibits the largest friction and the highest interfacial temperature increase due to severe rough surface asperity contacts,while the polished gear surfaces yield the smallest friction and the lowest interfacial temperature.In addition,the influences of the operating conditions and the gear design parameters on the friction-temperature behaviors are discussed.It is observed that the conditions of heavy load and low rotational velocity usually lead to significantly increased friction and temperature.In the meantime,by optimizing the gear design parameters,such as the modulus and the pressure angle,the performance of interfacial friction and temperature can be significantly improved. 展开更多

Friction Behaviors of Rough Line Contact Using Machine Learning-Assisted Finite Element Analysis

Grinding technology is widely applied in the manufacturing and mechanical processing sectors.Different from conventional three-dimensional rough surface friction models,ground metals exhibit a striated surface morphology,which can be simplified as a two-dimensional plane strain friction issue.Due to surface morphology diversity and loading condition complexity,numerical modeling and experimental approaches have difficulty achieving rapid prediction of line-contact surface friction behavior.Therefore,this study innovatively proposes a hybrid physics-data-driven model integrating finite element analysis(FEA)with machine learning(ML),enabling efficient and accurate prediction of line-contact friction behavior on two-dimensional rough surfaces.An extensive friction behavior database was generated through finite element simulations.Based on this dataset,the random forest(RF)algorithm was used to achieve high-precision prediction of the friction coefficient.Furthermore,a comprehensive analysis was performed on the effects of surface roughness,normal load,yield strength,and local friction coefficient on friction behavior.The RF model exhibits excellent performance in predicting friction coefficients and also accurately identifies the most influential features governing friction behavior.Residual analysis further verifies our model’s reliability,as the RF predictions agree with the FEA results,demonstrating remarkable adaptability and accuracy.Feature importance analysis results reveal that the local friction coefficient and normal load are the main factors influencing friction behavior,but the surface roughness and yield strength exhibit a relatively minor influence.The study innovatively identifies the coupling effects of key parameters through contour maps.Namely,the influence of local friction coefficient decreases with increasing normal load but becomes significantly more pronounced with elevated material yield strength.By integrating ML,our proposed model maintains the high accuracy of FEA while capturing the complexity of interfacial responses through data-driven approaches.Our study advances traditional tribological research from“experience-driven”to“data-intelligence-driven,”thus providing novel insights for understanding and predicting complex friction behaviors,as well as for optimizing frictional design in engineering applications. 展开更多

A fast compound direct iterative algorithm for solving transient line contact elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) problems is presented. First, by introducing a special matrix splitting iteration method into the traditional compound direct iterative method, the full matrices for the linear systems of equations are transformed into sparse banded ones with any half-bandwidth; then, an extended Thomas method which can solve banded linear systems with any half-bandwidth is derived to accelerate the computing speed. Through the above two steps, the computational complexity of each iteration is reduced approximately from O(N^3/3) to O(β^2N), where N is the total number of nodes, and β is the half-bandwidth. Two kinds of numerical results of transient EHL line contact problems under sinusoidal excitation or pure normal approach process are obtained. The results demonstrate that the new algorithm increases computing speed several times more than the traditional compound direct iterative method with the same numerical precision. Also the results show that the new algorithm can get the best computing speed and robustness when the ratio, half-bandwidth to total number of nodes, is about 7.5% 10.0% in moderate load cases. 展开更多

A surge of interests in the moving contact line (MCL) problem, which is still going on today, can be traced back to 1970s primarily because of the exis- tence of the "Huh-Scriven paradox". The objective of this study was to investigate the grease-lubricated film-forming mechanisms in the finite line contact and to improve the grease-lubricated finite line contact’s film-forming capacity.An elastohydrodynamic lubrication(EHL) test rig with two interferometry microscopes,which could simultaneously monitor two different contact locations in the finite line contact,was constructed in order to study the influences of the grease thickener formulation on the film thickness and lubrication condition.By using the relative light intensity method,the thickness maps of the grease-lubricated film were calculated from the interferometer images captured by the two microscopes.The test results revealed that the grease thickener’s formulation had remarkable effects on film formation and the perturbation of film thickness.For the lithium-based grease,the film’s thickness near the two ends of the roller was prone to severe perturbation caused by the conglomeration of clumps that were hard to shear.For the aluminum-complex-based grease,the fibers tended to accumulate in the middle of the roller rather than at the two ends.The urea-based grease could be easily sheared into smaller particles.In addition to the straight-line profile rollers,the logarithmic profile rollers were tested and found to effectively enhance the axial grease flow,increase the axial shear stress,and thus shear more fibers into particles within the contact area. 展开更多

Among these technologies, this paper introduces the 400 km-h-1 class current collection performance evaluation methods that have been developed and demonstrated by Korea. Specifically, this paper reports details of the video-based monitoring techniques that have been adopted to inspect the stability of overhead contact line (OCL) components at 400 km.h-1 without direct contact with any components of the power supply system. Unlike conventional OCL monitoring systems, which detect contact wire positions using either laser sensors or line cameras, the developed system measures parameters in the active state by video data. According to experimental results that were obtained at a field-test site established at a commercial line, it is claimed that the proposed mea- surement system is capable of effectively measuring OCL parameters. 展开更多

A dual-mode mechanical resonator using an atomic force microscope (AFM) as a force sensor is developed. The resonator consists of a long vertical glass fiber with one end glued onto a rectangular cantilever beam and the other end immersed through a liquid-air interface. By measuring the resonant spectrum of the modified AFM cantilever, one is able to accurately determine the longitudinal friction coefficient ξv along the fiber axis associated with the vertical oscillation of the hanging fiber and the traversal friction coefficient ξh perpendicular to the fiber axis associated with the horizontal swing of the fiber around its joint with the cantilever. The technique is tested by measurement of the friction coefficient of a fluctuating (and slipping) contact line between the glass fiber and the liquid interface. The experiment verifies the theory and demonstrates its applications. The dual-mode mechanical resonator provides a powerful tool for the study of the contact line dynamics and the rheological property of anisotropic fluids. 展开更多

Base on the theory of energy minimization, a numerical algorithm is established to calculate load distribution, and the relationship curve of spur gear load distribution is obtained, and the load distribution ratio changes from 033 to 067 in double contact zone. This theory is adopted to compute the load distribution of helical gear along time-varying contact line, and the load distribution varies with the instantaneous position of the meshing point and the length of contact line, and the maximum value of load appears at the pitch point. Compared with the load distribution results, the helical gear changes more smoothly than spur gear. The load distribution provides a basis for calculate tooth bending deformation and critical stress. 展开更多

The macroscopic alignment of conjugated polymers with low grain boundary is essential to carrier transport. During film forming process, the match between contact line receding velocity and the critical alignment velocity is essential to get the alignment polymer film. In this paper, the contact line receding velocity of a D-A conjugated polymer film, isoindigo and bithiophene(IIDDT-C3), was adjusted by solvent vapor content and film-formation temperature. Only when solvent vapor content was 0.3 m L and the film-formation temperature was 90C, the contact line receding velocity was in accordance with the critical alignment velocity, and the highest degree of alignment was attained in the IIDDT-C3 film, with the dichroic ratio up to 4.08. Fibers were aligned parallel with the direction of the contact line receding and the molecules of IIDDT-C3 adopted an edge-on orientation with the backbone parallel with the direction of fiber long axis. 升弓瞬间产生的钢轨过电压会严重影响轨旁信号设备的安全运行.为了分析AT牵引供电方式下机车升弓电弧对轨道电路过电压的影响,基于Agrawal场线耦合模型建立轨道电路升弓过电压分析模型.首先推导了牵引供电与轨道电路组成的多导体传输线... 升弓瞬间产生的钢轨过电压会严重影响轨旁信号设备的安全运行.为了分析AT牵引供电方式下机车升弓电弧对轨道电路过电压的影响,基于Agrawal场线耦合模型建立轨道电路升弓过电压分析模型.首先推导了牵引供电与轨道电路组成的多导体传输线系统的Agrawal场线耦合模型的解,并建立了一个易于实现的宏模型.然后将提出的宏模型与电磁暂态仿真软件PSCAD中“频率相关(相位)模型”组件结合,建立用于分析轨道电路暂态响应的模型.在PSCAD软件中通过动态距离控制、击穿电压判定及电弧能量方程耦合建立升弓电弧模型,并且通过和实测数据对比验证该方法的准确性.最后,分析了道床电阻以及升弓时的接触网电压相位对钢轨升弓过电压的影响.研究结果表明:道床电阻越大,钢轨的升弓过电压峰值越大,其过电压危害越严重;升弓时电压相位角为90º时,钢轨升弓过电压峰值最大.研究结果为轨道电路抗干扰分析及过电压防护提供理论依据. 展开更多

An account of numerical solutions to the isothermal and flooded elastohydrodynamic lubrication(EHL)of a logarithmic profile roller,which is rolling over a flat plane,is given The analysis takes account of sideways flow of lubricant in the inlet region of the contact When the results are presented in suitable non dimensional groups,it is shown that more uniformly pressure and shape of the film distributing in axial direction is taken place under light loading As the increase of the load,the end closure is displayed and the oil pressure rises sharply at the ends The seal action formed by the end closure makes the film thickness a little And the minimum film thickness is transferred from the central to the ends and the value is reduced rapidly As the increase of the speed,the end closure becomes much serious The optimum crowning value obtained in EHL state is larger than the design value obtained in elastostatic contact state for the same working conditions In order to verify the correctness of theory,optical interferometry is applied to measure the oil film thickness between a logarithmic profiled roller and a glass plate under pure rolling conditions It is found the agreement between numerical solutions and experiments is very good. 展开更多

为了实现碳纤维复合材料损伤监测时电阻信号的准确测量,接触电阻的最小化是提高测试结果灵敏度的首要条件。采用400目、600目和1000目3种不同目数的砂纸打磨碳纤维复合材料,运用四探针法测试打磨后试样的电阻,研究接触电阻的产生机理和... 为了实现碳纤维复合材料损伤监测时电阻信号的准确测量,接触电阻的最小化是提高测试结果灵敏度的首要条件。采用400目、600目和1000目3种不同目数的砂纸打磨碳纤维复合材料,运用四探针法测试打磨后试样的电阻,研究接触电阻的产生机理和影响因素,同时建立传输线模型计算出接触电阻。试验结果表明:采用的砂纸目数越大,打磨后碳纤维复合材料表面裸露的单丝长度越长,电接触越充分,接触电阻从在400目砂纸打磨下的0.00060Ω下降至在1000目砂纸打磨下的0.00050Ω,减小了16.7%。该试验结果可用于后续对碳纤维复合材料进行电阻法结构健康监测的场景。 展开更多

【目的】随着工业领域对面齿轮传动系统承载能力与使用寿命的要求不断提高,为进一步增强面齿轮传动的承载性能,提出一种基于等角螺旋线齿廓的面齿轮副传动设计方法。【方法】研究了等角螺旋线面齿轮齿面形成原理;通过求解啮入点、啮出... 【目的】随着工业领域对面齿轮传动系统承载能力与使用寿命的要求不断提高,为进一步增强面齿轮传动的承载性能,提出一种基于等角螺旋线齿廓的面齿轮副传动设计方法。【方法】研究了等角螺旋线面齿轮齿面形成原理;通过求解啮入点、啮出点、内齿廓齿顶点和外齿廓齿根点的啮合参数,推导了等角螺旋线面齿轮齿面离散模型;利用数值计算实例验证了齿面模型的正确性;分析了等角螺旋线面齿轮的主曲率、滑动率与压力角等关键特征参数,证明通过圆柱齿轮齿廓共轭的面齿轮齿廓仍为等角螺旋线;推导面齿轮接触应力与弯曲应力的理论解析模型,通过仿真验证了理论模型的准确性。【结果】仿真结果表明,等角螺旋线面齿轮应力明显小于渐开线面齿轮;等角螺旋线面齿轮承载能力显著高于渐开线面齿轮。研究为面齿轮传动的承载能力提升提供了一种新的设计思路。 展开更多
