Leaf is a essential part of the plants for photosynthetic activities which mainly economize the resources for boll heath. Significant variations of leaf shapes across the Gossypium sp. considerably influence the infiltration of sunlight for photosynthesis. To understand the genetic variants and molecular processes underlying for cotton leaf shape, we used F2 population derived from upland cotton genotype P30A (shallow-lobed leaf) and sea-island cotton genotype ISR (deep-lobed leaf) to map leaf deep lobed phenotype controlling genes LBL1 and LBL2. Genetic analysis and localization results have unmasked the position and interaction between both loci of LBL1 and LBL2, and revealed the co-dominance impact of the genes in regulating depth of leaf blades lobes in cotton. LBL1 had been described as a main gene and member of transcription factor family leucine zipper (HD-ZIPI) from a class I homologous domain factor Gorai.OO2G244000. The qRT-PCR results elaborated the continuous change in expression level of LBL1 at different growth stages and leaf parts of cotton. Higher expression level was observed in mature large leaves followed by medium and young leaves respectively. For further confirmation, plants were tested from hormonal induction treatments, which explained that LBL 1 expression was influenced by hormonal signaling. Moreover, the highest expression level was detected in brassinolides (BR) treatment as compared to other hormones, and this hormone plays an important role in the process of leaf blade lobed formation. 展开更多

A grating lobes suppression method for chirp-subpulse stepped frequency(CSSF) signals is proposed, which is applied to deformation monitoring using the ground based synthetic aperture radar(GB-SAR) system. This method is based on accurate estimation and correction of the phase and amplitude error along two dimensions(range and azimuth), i.e., the error estimation inside the subpulse(in-subpulse error) and across the stepped frequency subpulses(cross-subpulse error) of transmitted CSSF signals. Validated both with simulated data and experimental data recorded in the deformation monitoring campaign, it can be seen that the method as well as the relative conclusions can be fully and effectively applied to most of the stepped frequency systems. 展开更多

Deepwater turbidite lobe reservoirs have massive hydrocarbon potential and represent one of the most promising exploration targets for hydrocarbon industry.Key elements of turbidite lobes internal heterogeneity include the architectural hierarchy and complex amalgamations at each hierarchical level leading to the complex distribution of shale drapes.Due to limitation of data,to build models realistically honoring the reservoir architecture provides an effective way to reduce risk and improve hydrocarbon recovery.A variety of modeling techniques on turbidite lobes exist and can be broadly grouped into pixel-based,process-based,process-oriented,surface-based,object-based and a hybrid approach of two or more of these methods. The rationale and working process of methods is reviewed, along with their pros and cons.In terms of geological realism,object-based models can capture the most realistic architectures, including the multiple hierarchy and the amalgamations at different hierarchical levels. In terms of data conditioning,pixel-based and multiple-point statistics methods could honor the input data to the best degree. In practical, dif?ferent methods should be adopted depending on the goal of the project.Such a review could improve the understanding of existing modeling methods on turbidite lobes and could benefit the hydrocarbon exploration activities of such reservoirs in offshore China. 展开更多

Through lithofacies analysis and architecture anatomy of the Carboniferous Ross Sandstone turbidites outcropped at western Ireland, the depositional model of deepwater turbidite lobes is established.Seven types of lithofacies are recognized including goniatites-rich shale, laminated shale, laminated siltstone, massive sandstone,fine-medium sandstone with mud-clast,basal gravel, and chaotic mudstone, which can be subdivided into units of three origins, turbidite lobe, turbidite channel, and slide-slump;and four hierarchical levels, lobe complex, lobe, lobe element and single sandstone layer. The lobes show apparent compensational stacking pattern, lobe elements display typical thickening-upward cycles on vertical profile, and the higher the hierarchical level, the better the preservation of the hierarchical boundary is.In general, turbidite lobe deposits appear as tabular,parallel/sub-parallel sandstone and mudstone interbeds, and change from thick, massive sandstone in the proximal end to thinner sandstone and mudstone interbeds from axis to fringe, with the sand-shale ratio and degree of sandstone amalgamation decreasing. 展开更多

Objectives: This study used cardiac CT to identify and name the different shapes of individual left atrial appendage (LAA) lobes and identified correlations between the size and shape of the LAA ostium and the volume of the LAA in a population of normal individuals. Background: The anatomy of the LAA appendage has become the subject of current research, because appendage occlusion devices have emerged for patients with atrial fibrillation. The development of cardiac computed tomography (CT) allows researchers to identify and observe cardiac anatomy, including various shapes of the LAA lobes. Methods: This study was a retrospective review of 102 consecutive patients from March 2009 to November 2010 who underwent cardiac CT using the GE 64-slice Light Speed VCT CT scanner. For each patient, the LAA ostium was measured, and the shape of the ostium was observed and described. After the LAAs were reconstructed 3-dimensionally, each LAA was categorized by its shape and number of lobes. Results: No significant difference was observed between the average LAA volume between males and females. LAA appendages with circular ostium (n = 61) were observed to have a larger mean volume than those with elliptical ostium (n = 39). Predictors of LAA volume were identified. The most common number of lobes was 2 (n = 61), followed by 1 (n = 27), 3 (n = 10), and 4 (n = 2). Eight unique LAA morphologies were identified and a name was assigned to each morphology. Based on the shape and number of lobes observed, the most common LAA lobe shape was hook (n = 55), followed by wing, arrowhead, flame, double wing, finger, sea horse, double hook, knob, spiral, and double knob. Conclusion: This study used 3D cardiac CT to identify and name the morphology of individual LAA lobes as one of eight different types. The Beutler-Loli naming system formulates a basis to improve understanding of the complex structure of LAA anatomy and to facilitate a system for researchers and clinicians to communicate more precisely about the LAA. 展开更多

Recently, we found that side lobes of wavelets have a large impact on the identification of thin sand reservoirs when studying some gas fields in a basin in Northwest China. Reflections from the top of the H Formation, in which there are gas-bearing thin sand bodies, have the main wavelet lobe between two weak peak side lobes. The lower one always mixes with another peak reflected from the top of a thin sand reservoir. That makes it difficult to identify the sand reservoir. In order to solve this, many forward models were set up using typical well logs. 2D synthetic profiles were produced using Ricker wavelets to study the relationships between the effects of wavelet side lobes and thin sand position and frequency and between amplitude and the thin sand body. We developed the following conclusions: First, it is easier to identify thin sands in a shallower position. Second, a good way to tell sand body reflections from side lobes is by comparing profiles with different frequency windows. Third, it is helpful and effective to describe sand extent using amplitude attributes. 展开更多

River-dominated lacustrine deltas typically consist of multiple lobes due to autogenic lobe switching that occurs over short time scales. However, the switching patterns of multiple lobes in these deltas remain poorly understood, and the architectural features attributed to lobe switching are also lacking.By integrating Delft3D simulations, flume experiments, and modern deposit analysis,we proposed that autogenic lobe switching follows a cyclic pattern.Autocyclicity begins with the formation of an offshore lobe and concludes after a series of longshore lobe growth events, marked by longshore avulsions occurring along the sides of offshore distributary channels.Longshore avulsions follow a sequence that usually occurs earlier distally than proximally and subsequently occurs on one longshore side and then on the other side. Each lobe begins with rapid growth, which gradually slows and then stops once a channel avulsion is influenced by the backwater effect that triggers lobe switching.Three signals indicate lobe switching:a decrease in progradation rate, foreset slope steepening coupled with topset slope gentling, and the deposition of mud-dominated sediments. The number of autocyclic events never exceeds seven. The first two autocyclicities contribute to more than 55%of delta length and 70%of delta area. The lobes are separated by 1-6 stages of mud-dominated accretion beds that exhibit a downstream-inclined shape and convexup or lateral overlapping pattern. This study conducts a coupled growth-geometric assessment to establish an architectural pattern for river-dominated lacustrine deltas. This architectural pattern offers valuable insights into predicting sandy lobe distribution in river-dominated lacustrine delta reservoirs, and the architecture of muddy accretion beds aids in predicting the rule of oil-water movement and distribution of remaining oil. 展开更多

As one of the most important reservoirs in submarine fan, submarine lobes are hot fields for the deep-water oil-gas exploration in the world. Although a large amount of researches have been carried out on the architecture model of submarine lobes throughout the world, some controversies still exist on aspects such as the differential distribution of composite patterns and the quantitative relationships among different sedimentary settings. This paper, which took an oilfietd in the Niger Delta Basin offshore West Afnca as an example and utilized abundant core, welt-logging and seismic data comprehensively, established the semi- quantitative to quantitative architecture model for individual lobe and lobe complex. Results show that (1) A lobe complex was composed of multiple individual lobes as the compensational stacking pattern. According to the stacked relationship among individual lobes, four types of compensational stacking pattern were classified as the inordered type, the lateral migration type, the retrograding type and the prograding type. Influenced by the laterally confined degree of palaeotopography, the basin floor fan lobe complex was easily superimposed as inordered type, showing relatively large lateral width but relatively small thickness; the slope fan lobe complex was easily superimposed as lateral migration, retrograding and pro- grading types, showing relatively small lateral width but relatively large thickness. (2) Influenced by the laterally confined degree of palaeotopography, the basin floor fan individual lobes showed relatively large planar distribution area but relatively small thickness, while the slope fan individual lobes showed relatively small planar distribution area but relatively large thickness. An individual lobe was composed of multiple lobe stories by the way of aggradation-progradation pattern. From proximal to middle and distal part of individual lobes, the bottom mass-transport-deposits and the top branch channels disappeared gradually, and the amalgamated degree of the middle tabular sandbodies weakened as well with gradually developing of muddy interlayers. The formation of an individual lobe generally includes three stages as "rapid accumulation-progradation-aggradation". 展开更多

Approximately 30%-40% of epilepsy patients do not respond well to adequate anti-seizure medications(ASMs),a condition known as pharmacoresistant epilepsy. The management of pharmacoresistant epilepsy remains an intractable issue in the clinic. Its early prediction is important for prevention and diagnosis. However,it still lacks effective predictors and approaches. Here,a classical model of pharmacoresistant temporal lobe epilepsy(TLE)was established to screen pharmacoresistant and pharmaco-responsive individuals by applying phenytoin to amygdaloid-kindled rats.Ictal electroencephalograms(EEGs)recorded before phenytoin treatment were analyzed.Based on ictal EEGs from pharmacoresistant and pharmaco-responsive rats,a convolutional neural network predictive model was constructed to predict pharmacoresistance, and achieved 78% prediction accuracy. We further found the ictal EEGs from pharmacoresistant rats have a lower gamma-band power, which was verified in seizure EEGs from pharmacoresistant TLE patients.Prospectively, therapies targeting the subiculum in those predicted as“pharmacoresistant”individual rats significantly reduced the subsequent occurrence of pharmacoresistance. These results demonstrate a new methodology to predict whether TLE individuals become resistant to ASMs in a classic pharmacoresistant TLE model. This may be of translational importance for the precise management of pharmacoresistant TLE. 展开更多

Fan deltas are usually constructed through episodic flood event with debris flow transforming to hyper-concentrated flow during sediments proceeding. However, the role of topography in controlling the flow transformation and sediments aggradation has been less studied. This constrain studies of sediment distribution and understanding of graded profile. For lake basin sequences, geomorphological control is much stronger than lake level rise and fall. Under extreme conditions, sediments can still prograde when the lake level rises. Therefore, describing the influence of geomorphology on the flow transformation and stacking pattern of the lobes can provide a deeper understanding of the controlling factors of the lake basin stratigraphy sequence. Xiligou lake (XLG) fan delta from Xisai Basin provides an optimal case for addressing this issue. Three lobes developed on the XLG fan delta with significant differences in their morphologies, architectures, lithofacies, sediment distributions and topographies. Through trenching, drone photography, and satellite data, we analyzed the structure of the sediments and the distribution of sedimentary facies. Based on the analysis of debris flow and hyper-concentrated flow deposits, two transformation models corresponding to different topographies were established. Sediment unloading is caused by a frictional reduction or a sudden momentum loss in the sediments flow's carrying capacity, allowing the debris flow transforms to hyper-concentrated flow and then to stream flow during the movement. The role of topography in controlling sediment flow transformation and sediment distribution is clarified through forces analysis of sediment grain. The topographic gradient of the linear slope is constant, so the direction of fluid movement is consistent with the topographic direction. Therefore, sediment flows move on linear slope without collision with the bed and there is no sudden loss of momentum. The gradual or sudden reduction in topographic gradient of concave slopes forces a constant or sudden change in the direction of fluid movement, which facilitates the unloading of sediments and the transformation of flow. The sudden change of topography forces unloading of viscous component, and the non-viscous component pass over to form hyper-concentrated flow, often accompanied by remobilized large gravels. The graded profile was an equilibrium between the dynamics and resistance of sediment transport. Changes in lake level affect the graded profile by changing the elevation of sediment transport, which is the total gravitational potential energy. The instantaneous graded profile and temporary graded profile are different scales of equilibrium corresponding to hydrodynamic equilibrium and depositional trend respectively. This study reveals the role of geomorphological dynamics in controlling sedimentary body progradation, thus providing a new perspective on the analysis of lake basin stratigraphy sequence. 展开更多

The potherb mustard Xuecai(XC)cultivar is a cruciferous vegetable that is popular either fresh or pickled.Due to the deep notches in the edges of leaves in mustard XC,this plant can be said to have multipinnately lobed leaves. The net photosynthesis of lobed leaves is significantly greater than that of simple leaves. However, the molecular mechanism of leaf shape variation has not been determined. Here,we used HiFi and Hi-C data to assemble the XC genome. The genome was 961.72 Mb in size, with a contig N50 value of 6.565 Mb.The XC genome was compared with four previously sequenced mustard genomes, and the genomic collinearity regions,SNPs,and indels were identified.Five BjRCO genes were found on chromosome(Chr.)A10 in potherb mustard XC when the BjRCO gene locus was compared against other sequenced B.juncea genomes.Segmental duplication was found to contribute to the BjRCO gene copy number. The transcript expression of BjRCO genes was greater in multipinnately lobed leaves than in sawtooth-like leaves.Together, these findings indicate that both the greater copy number and the expression level of BjRCO genes regulate leaf shape from simple to complex in B.juncea.Gene editing of the BjRCO gene from XC changed the leaf shape from multipinnately lobed to simple. The high-quality XC genome sequence not only provides new insight into B.juncea leaf-type genomics but also helps in deciphering leaf shape variation. Our study provides insights into the variation and evolution of important traits in Brassica plants through a comparative analysis of the sequenced genomes. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Hepatic hemangiomas can be challenging to diagnose, particularly when they present with atypical features that mimic other conditions, such as gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs).This case highlights the diagnostic difficulties encountered when imaging subepithelial lesions, especially when conventional methods such as computed tomography(CT)and endoscopic ultrasound(EUS)are used.CASE SUMMARY A 44-year-old woman presented with intermittent abdominal distension and heartburn for three months. Her medical history included iron deficiency anemia, menorrhagia, and previous cholecystectomy. One week prior to admission,an endoscopy suggested a bulging gastric fundus, which was likely a GIST,along with chronic nonatrophic gastritis and bile reflux.CT and EUS revealed nodules in the gastric fundus, which were initially considered benign tumors with a differential diagnosis of stromal tumor or leiomyoma.During surgery, unexpected lesions were found in the liver pressing against the gastric fundus, leading to laparoscopic liver resection.Postoperative pathology confirmed the diagnosis of hepatic cavernous hemangiomas. The patient recovered well and was discharged five days later, with normal follow-up results at three months.CONCLUSION This case underscores the challenges in the preoperative diagnosis of GISTs,particularly the limitations of the use of CT and EUS for the evaluation of subepithelial lesions. While CT is the primary tool for visualizing abdominal tumors,it is difficult to detect smaller lesions and assess the layers of the gastrointestinal wall on CT.EUS is recommended for the evaluation of nodules smaller than 2 cm and is useful for distinguishing GISTs from other lesions;however, its accuracy with regard to the differential diagnosis is relatively low.In this case, the gastric distension observed on imaging led to the compression of a liver tumor against the stomach, resulting in the misinterpretation of the tumor as a gastric wall lesion. 展开更多

Thinning of antenna arrays has been a popular topic for the last several decades. With increasing computational power, this optimization task acquired a new hue. This paper suggests a genetic algorithm as an instrument for antenna array thinning. The algorithm with a deliberately chosen fitness function allows synthesizing thinned linear antenna arrays with low peak sidelobe level(SLL)while maintaining the half-power beamwidth(HPBW)of a full linear antenna array.Based on results from existing papers in the field and known approaches to antenna array thinning,a classification of thinning types is introduced. The optimal thinning type for a linear thinned antenna array is determined on the basis of a maximum attainable SLL.The effect of thinning coefficient on main directional pattern characteristics, such as peak SLL and HPBW,is discussed for a number of amplitude distributions. 展开更多

Background: Neurodevelopmental abnormalities in experimental fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) are associated with impaired signaling through complex pathways that mediate neuronal survival, growth, migration, energy metabolism, and plasticity. Gestational dietary soy prevents alcohol-related impairments in placentation and FASD-associated fetal anomalies. Objective: This study was designed to determine if gestational dietary soy would be sufficient to normalize cognitive function in young adolescent offspring after chronic in utero exposure to alcohol. In addition, efforts were made to characterize the mechanisms of FASD prevention by maternal dietary soy. Methods: Pregnant Long Evans rats were fed isocaloric liquid diets containing 0% or 26% caloric ethanol with casein or soy isolate as the protein source from gestation day 6 through delivery/postnatal day 0 (P0). From P24 - P28, the offspring were subjected to Morris water maze (MWM) testing, and on P35, they were sacrificed to harvest temporal lobes for histopathologic and molecular studies. Results: The in-utero ethanol-exposed offspring exhibited significant performance impairments on the MWM test, and they had a significantly reduced mean brain weight with neuronal loss in the CA1 hippocampal region and evidence of white matter myelin loss. Gestational dietary soy nearly normalized MWM performance and preserved brain weight, hippocampal CA1 architecture, and white matter myelin staining in alcohol-exposed offspring. Mechanistically, the main positive effects of soy included increased temporal lobe expression of HES-1 and HIF-1α, reflecting enhanced Notch signaling, and broadly increased expression of GnRH network molecules, including Erb1, Gper1, GnRH, GnRH-R, KiSS, and KiSS-R, irrespective of gestational ethanol exposure. Conclusions: Dietary soy intervention early in pregnancy may reduce FASD-associated cognitive deficits. The findings suggest that targeting Notch and GnRH-related networks may help reduce long-term disability with FASD. Additional mechanistic and experimental research is needed to determine if longer-duration, postnatal dietary soy could prevent the adverse neurobehavioral effects of FASD. 展开更多

Episodic memory, our ability to recall past experiences,is supported by structures in the medial temporal lobe(MTL)particularly the hippocampus, and its interactions with fronto-parietal brain regions.Understanding how these brain regions coordinate to encode, consolidate, and retrieve episodic memories remains a fundamental question in cognitive neuroscience.Non-invasive brain stimulation(NIBS)methods, especially transcranial magnetic stimulation(TMS),have advanced episodic memory research beyond traditional lesion studies and neuroimaging by enabling causal investigations through targeted magnetic stimulation to specific brain regions. This review begins by delineating the evolving understanding of episodic memory from both psychological and neurobiological perspectives and discusses the brain networks supporting episodic memory processes. Then,we review studies that employed TMS to modulate episodic memory, with the aim of identifying potential cortical regions that could be used as stimulation sites to modulate episodic memory networks. We conclude with the implications and prospects of using NIBS to understand episodic memory mechanisms. 展开更多

Liver transplantation represents a complex surgical procedure and serves as a curative treatment for patients presenting an acute or chronic end-stage liver disease, or carefully selected liver malignancy. A significant gap still exists between the number of available donor organs and potential recipients. The use of an otherwise-wasted resected liver lobe from patients with benign liver tumors is a new, albeit small, option to alleviate the allograft shortage. This review provides evidence that resected liver lobes may be used successfully in liver transplantation. 展开更多

Neuroinflammation mediated by microglia and oxidative stress play pivotal roles in the development of chronic temporal lobe epilepsy(TLE).We postulated that kainic acid(KA)-Induced status epilepticus triggers microglia-dependent inflammation, leading to neuronal damage,a lowered seizure threshold, and the emergence of spontaneous recurrent seizures(SRS).Extensive evidence from our laboratory suggests that dextromethorphan(DM),even in ultra-low doses, has anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects in many animal models of neurodegenerative disease. Our results showed that administration of DM(10 ng/kg per day;subcutaneously via osmotic minipump for 4 weeks)significantly mitigated the residual effects of KA,including the frequency of SRS and seizure susceptibility. In addition,DM-treated rats showed improved cognitive function and reduced hippocampal neuronal loss.We found suppressed microglial activation-mediated neuroinflammation and decreased expression of hippocampal gp91^(phox) and p47^(phox) proteins in KA-induced chronic TLE rats.Notably, even after discontinuation of DM treatment,ultra-low doses of DM continued to confer long-term anti-seizure and neuroprotective effects, which were attributed to the inhibition of microglial NADPH oxidase 2 as revealed by mechanistic studies. 展开更多
