The Literary Lab at Stanford University is one of the birthplaces of digital humanities and has maintained significant influence in this field over the years.Professor Hui Haifeng has been engaged in research on digit...The Literary Lab at Stanford University is one of the birthplaces of digital humanities and has maintained significant influence in this field over the years.Professor Hui Haifeng has been engaged in research on digital humanities and computational criticism in recent years.During his visiting scholarship at Stanford University,he participated in the activities of the Literary Lab.Taking this opportunity,he interviewed Professor Mark Algee-Hewitt,the director of the Literary Lab,discussing important topics such as the current state and reception of DH(digital humanities)in the English Department,the operations of the Literary Lab,and the landscape of computational criticism.Mark Algee-Hewitt's research focuses on the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries in England and Germany and seeks to combine literary criticism with digital and quantitative analyses of literary texts.In particular,he is interested in the history of aesthetic theory and the development and transmission of aesthetic and philosophical concepts during the Enlightenment and Romantic periods.He is also interested in the relationship between aesthetic theory and the poetry of the long eighteenth century.Although his primary background is English literature,he also has a degree in computer science.He believes that the influence of digital humanities within the humanities disciplines is growing increasingly significant.This impact is evident in both the attraction and assistance it offers to students,as well as in the new interpretations it brings to traditional literary studies.He argues that the key to effectively integrating digital humanities into the English Department is to focus on literary research questions,exploring how digital tools can raise new questions or provide new insights into traditional research.展开更多

文摘Due to the prevalence of fuzziness in literary works and in poetry in particular,the author puts forward the view that some skills such as rhetoric devices,abstraction,meaning manifestation,creation of imagination context are to be adopted in the translation of literary fuzziness from the perspective of aesthetic recognition to achieve an integration between the textual implication and the readers' expectation horizon.And the author takes the translation of Chinese classic poems for example,through detailed analysis and comparison,proves the feasibility of the viewpoint.

文摘The quality of language use is mainly evaluated at the levels of correctness,appropriateness and creativeness.Stylisticfeatures are manifested at the levels of appropriateness and creativeness.In traditional English grammar teaching,much effort isput on the correctness.Appropriateness is treated in part and creativeness is largely ignored.Isolated from concrete contexts,lin-guistic materials used for grammar teaching tend to be inefficient to ensure effective communication.The teaching of dry grammati-cal rules may lead to monotony and boredom in grammar learning.If the linguistic materials used in grammar teaching address cor-rectness,appropriateness and creativeness in language use simultaneously and are closer to life,grammar learning may be morefruitful.As literary texts are characterized by both the social discourses under multiple contexts and personal tastes,their styles arerich and lively.Therefore,to embed literary texts in English grammar teaching will not only create a more concrete,meaningful andinteresting context for the learning of grammatical rules but also be beneficial for the cultivation of stylistic awareness.

In addition to his fruitful literary creation, in the aspect of translation, he translated a lot of poetry in English literature, Hugo‘s Les Miserable's and also some Indian literary works. He is good at making use of old verses to translate poetry. As to translation principles, he advocates "translation without increasing", "translation without increasing ornaments," and practices the method of "translation according to the source text context".
